Welcome to tonight's ! Our topic is all about different ways of showing what you know.
I'm Angela Rutschke from Caroline, Alberta. I teach the core subjects, leadership & as well.
Please share who you are, where you're from & what you teach.
Catherine from Fresno CA. Current S to be Eng T. Have to leave early. So excited to be here! I learn more with my Twitter family
Hello ! Kristin from Lansing, MI 6th grade ELA and SS
Question 1 is on its way in one minute!!!
Hi Catherine. Welcome back! We are so glad you are joining us tonight!
Hi Kristin, great to see you my friend! I hope you have been having a good week!
It's been great so far! Glad to be here!
A1 Their outcome or expected goals that either they achieved or want to achieve. It's important that they see their success
A1: Ss need the content, but with application, not just regurgiation.Presentations should be engaging, creative & go FURTHER!
A1) I like to see true application of the concept, not just a list of facts. E.g. Ss find authentic examples to represent concept
Sometimes Ss miss the BIG part of a presentation. The outcomes have to be met!
Me too Kristin! I love it when Ss go beyond what the book or Google provides :)
A1b: I think it is important that Ss show their BEST understanding with quality work. Pride in ownership is key!
Lisa Rans here with I provide support to teachers on our online PD, dual language and lessons.
A2: It's a work in progress for me :) Ss can show mastery through ANY method that meets the objective, I try to keep an open mind!
Great to have you along Lisa!
A2) Depends on goal. In SS, I allowed Ss to select a country, & they have built slideshare all yr applying new concepts--experts!
A2 By letting them show off what they know. Ss love showing their excitement when they learn something new. That was me. #
I think we forget to let Ss share enough! They really ARE very proud of their learning.
I like this a lot! I'm sure they have learned a HUGE amount!
Our lessons, we often encourage ss to choose their medium 2 respond & create. My new fav is Sock Puppets:https://t.co/aJdUfP1csj
A2: Ss have made videos, blog posts, diagrams, written books & poems, created & games, done tests, put on skits & drawn
A fun journey; ea. concept (culture, nat. disaster, econ., etc) Ss research & find out what happens in "their" country
I've heard of Sock Puppets but haven't used it yet. I love the diversity choice allows. Ss become far more engaged!
A4) Measure the standard first; I often provide "required elements" that match learning strands.
A3: We often create rubrics together & feedback is based on specific objectives. I'm using "grades" less and less lately!
I used to find it challenging to assess different projects until I went to this method :)
I love the idea of using badges like suggests in games instead of grades; it's a balance
Agree. It's about starting with the end goal first; what do we want Ss to do? Then, assessment method emerges
This is great! Thanks for sharing it!
Interesting rubric for us :) Cool way to reflect on lesson planning!
Yes digital badging is cool. We're doing it with teachers. But it's great for ss too!
I'm getting better at badges & I think experience pts could be very effective as well!
A4: I try to introduce a new tool every couple weeks. I have tutorials on our website & Ss become Ts as they use them as well
A4) Not too hard. I use diff. presentation tools, Ss get excited, & then they try them. I also have Ss try diff tools during yr
Get rid of grades & call them 'goals.' After all, I wouldn't want anybdy grding me on my goals! https://t.co/H7m6HKrJ2Q
A3: We often create rubrics together & feedback is based on specific objectives. I'm using "grades" less and less lately!
True although I am evaluated on my progress and activities toward the goals as a teacher
Good point Peg! The biggest push-back tends to come from parents!
Ss like to try new things, once they feel comfortable. I try to build in practice as well.
Thanks for sharing this! There are some great tools there!
What an AWESOME collection Kristin :) Thanks for sharing this!
A4) I have a tech team that works w/me to learn about new tools. They then help others; also create lessons where Ss use new tools
Fun book! Thank you for stopping by and for your great shares!
Thanks...my work in progress. Just keep adding as I read, or get ideas. My digital bulletin board!
That's so WONDERFUL! Most of my tech ideas have come from doing my MET & from hearing about tools on Twitter!
YAY, you made it Michelle! We are glad to see you!
Trying to catch up! Looks like lots of good sharing tonight.
I made a list last week--our class has worked w over 50 tech tools this year! Amazing! Some more than others, of course!
We are going to get even BETTER! Wait for Q6 ;)
A5 I try to build the collaborative project so each is responsible for his/her own piece.
Do you have that list handy by any chance? ;P
It's hand-written right now. I plan to put it on a google doc...will share when I do!
A5: During projects, Ss know they ALL have to be able to answer questions, show what they know & we still have tests too!
That would be FANTASTIC! I have no doubt you have some tools on there that will be new for me :)
Kind of funny that I "hand wrote" digital tools, now that I think about it and read it in the twitter stream!
Maybe we hold a PD for parents at the beginning of the year to change mindset! https://t.co/qvRaXcDSAK
Good point Peg! The biggest push-back tends to come from parents!
Very good point. How can we make this work for ALL of us?! https://t.co/idd2AXmGJt
True although I am evaluated on my progress and activities toward the goals as a teacher
A6: , Prezi, Canva, YouTube, Screencastify, Weebly (or any other website/blogs), GAFE,
A6) Genius Hr: Ss using , slide share, powtoon, screencasting, ,
LOL...very funny actually!
A6 my students love I am drawing a blank?
Have you tried out VoiceThread? It's pretty cool too!
Have not tried Voice Thread. Will try!
The million dollar question, I believe. What is the end result we desire?
A6 I forgot and They are crazy about of course.
It is a cool tool but it always seems to cause us issues for some reason. I should try it again.
I really like as well! is also a great tool!
Have you tried and their new Quizlet Live game? It's great....kids love it!
A7: It's the MINDSET, curiousity, & ability to apply what they learn in new ways that prepares. New is not always better!
I've heard SUCH good things about ! I HAVE to try it before the year ends :)
A7) The more comfortable Ss are w/technology and presenting, the better able they can handle critical thinking, and more.
A7 Whenever students think critically, work collaboratively, use problem solving skills and ask good questions we can't go wrong.
No I have not. I should give it a try.
Hmm...yes, we have not had issues with it. Quizlet Live was so fun; I love how they have to collaborate.
A8 It is a process that takes time and lots of discussion about how we can do things better.
A8) Advice: Start w/ how to integrate presentation tools/focus; Ss are more engaged when they have relevance, authenticity
A8: My biggest ? is how Ss can move on when they can demonstrate they've "got it". Some are ready much quicker than others!
