Join the Collaborative Professional Development movement! Every month, Jennifer Williams and Participate invite you to share how you are incorporating blended learning tools and ideas derived from other educators into your instruction and professional development. This chat is great if you are new to Twitter, or a seasoned social media maven. Ultimately, it’s about empowerment and self-discovery through the expansion of personal learning networks, and the ability to blend in voices, concepts and tools from all over the world.
Volunteered for a new task - sat down with group and listened to specifics of what they would like and started reflecting on best way to accomplish. #CollaborativePD
Hi! Allison here from NC, former administrator and assoc. supt for curriculum with a passion for improving PD for all educators! Also a coworker mom!! #CollaborativePD
I'm Faith from AL. I spent most of the day at the doctor, but I did swing by @krispykreme and get a free donut and a free slush with my reward points. I love to coupon, so I guess I could get a badge in that. LOL. #collaborativePD
Sara from NC, but currently stuck in DC because of the weather. I’d like a “badge” for my navigating complex last-minute travel options to get home... #CollaborativePD
Hello everyone! Taking a break from paper-writing to chat! I'm Lauren and I work for @speechanddebate! I earned the listened to a musical soundtrack 47 times while working badge. (I'm a late in the game joiner of the@DearEvanHansen fan club). #CollaborativePD

Whats up #collaborativepd Mike, Elementary AP from FLA. Today I could have earned a "LeBron James" badge today for dominating some 5th graders at PE basketball on one of my walkthroughs!
A1: We're currently working on developing this kind of system right now for our district.
Love the idea of using badges to recognize individual strengths and passions of teachers...it allows us to lead our own learning! #collaborativePD
A1: We are looking to leverage badging/micro credentials to create PD pathways for teachers. Allowing teachers to pursue their passion/interests further #collaborativepd
A1. When they participated in the first chat I DM one type of badge and changed it to reflect the 2nd, and 3rd chat. I was thrilled when they kept attending. #CollaborativePD
A1 I enjoy getting digital badges personally but liked giving them out on @edmodo for my Ss and seeing their excitement, micro-credentials are great for PD to recognize diff skills/knowledge #collaborativepd
A1: Micro-credentials and Badges allow me to see what in a snapshot what my colleges and peers are passionate about and what have been working on to expand professionally. #collaborativepd
A1: Micro-credentials can recognize, curate and showcase learning that takes place in both formal and informal settings. In this environment, it's about what is learned and how those lessons are used to advance and transfer knowledge within a given competency. #CollaborativePD
WOAH. I wanna take that course.
But, I'll earn my "presented with @spirrison" badge next week and I'm hoping I'll earn my "hangin with Jane (@plain_jane) and Morgan" badge in April!!

A1: I have a few through Microsoft Education, and I've been sent some for different ambassadorships, but my district doesn't really do anything with them. I wish they did! #collaborativePD
This Saturday I am explaining our new website - super excited to extend the chat to a website in hopes educators can connect even more with each other #CollaborativePD
A2: Not just sitting through a PD, but applying what you learned during that PD. Doesn't have to be perfect. The goal should be to get teachers to try something new. :) #collaborativePD

#collaborativePD A1 as a parent, grandparent I can’t say I’ve seen evidence of badges or micro credentials. I wonder how principals look for such when hiring, esp new Ts fresh from school? How to differentiate? #bendingED
A2: Any activities where the teachers are leading, learning, doing. Not sitting through a lecture, but actually pursuing an interest and showing application in the classroom. Becoming Google Certified is a great start!
#CollaborativePD
A1 I enjoy working through the different courses with @MicrosoftEDU#MIEExpert and having the badges to show what I have learned more about and applied #collaborativepd
A2: Evidence that the participant was ACTIVE in the learning process. Moving beyond passive participation. Collaborative interactions, synthesized & reflective thinking. In the hands of teachers & for the world to see! #CollaborativePD

#CollaborativePD
A2: Isn't what we are doing right now a learning experience that can benefit from the recognition of micro-credentials. We are a group of educators and influencers sharing our expertise in developing our own practices. Social learning is a skill to be mastered. #CollaborativePD
A2. Depends on what the goal is. If they meet the goal then the badge should be forthcoming. Difficult to be sure what a learner takes away from a session or what they might apply at a later date. #collaborativePD

You are an amazing lead learner and there are many times I see your name just fly by on a Twitter feed and I stop it suddenly so I can see what you posted - "what does Rachelle have to share today?" #CollaborativePD

A2 I just did some digging and our qualifications framework is looking at how to use these to help support development within our education system. #collaborativepd
A2: When a learner can show they have been impacted by new understanding and have implemented their new learning in some way that brings about stronger classroom learning, they should earn it! #CollaborativePD
A3: Allow teachers to pursue interests, provide a variety of PD topics and opportunities, recognize teacher learning achievements, and develop a system to share with others. You need help with formative assessment? "This teacher" has a badge in that area! #CollaborativePD
Oh Meredith, I think the exact same thing about you! Thanks so much for your kind words and support, so thankful! Wow, thank you!!! #eduawesome#bookcamppd#collaborativepd
Oh, interesting! Have you met @spirrison? He always has wonderful ideas for groups/districts getting started with badging/micro-credentials! #CollaborativePD
A3: Digital Badges are great...if you have a platform to recognize/share....Let's post them on classroom doors...Ss have some pride in their Ts...Fellow Ts know who to go to for help...Build peer coaching capacity! #CollaborativePD
A3: It would be a visual way to help teachers connect with one another - from building to building - so that you can see who shares your interests and passions! #CollaborativePD
A3. Of course they can use them!! Many, many years ago when all of these rules were set in stone about how many hours teachers needed <--- I am frustrated trying to explain this = not enough spaces in Twitterland :-( #CollaborativePD
A3 Find out the interests of Ts, help create opps for Ts to explore new areas and then come back and share their learning, and also recognize achvts, great way to build #PLN#PLC and relationships #collaborativepd
A3: Schools should support and utilize badging to allow for more teacher agency. Start small- like the certification programs available (Google, Nearpod) and then expand based on response from staff- Participate platform, learning modules in your LMS #collaborativepd
A3 micro-credentials can be used across the board for Prof learning, mandatory trainings, informal PD, proof of various job duties, and as fun motivational ways of recognizing staff for being mentors, or other roles #collaborativepd
#collaborativePD A3 #BendingED Q2 asks Why change? I think badging/microcredentials can lead the way. Admins/districts set goals, mission. IDing little steps of PD can get most there over time. Who wants to stagnate?

A3. You might participate in a professional learning experience and two years later apply it or maybe the next day - it is hard to know when but you are enriched by EVERY learning experience! #CollaborativePD
A3: #CollaborativePD I'm probably preaching to the choir here (says the music teacher) but #edcamp and #unconference opportunities are great ways to encourage individual growth. Admin just need to have faith, be willing to step away form traditional models
A3: This year I have really embraced giving my Ts a variety of options for their PD needs. I would love to take it to the next step with a micro-credential/badge system so they showcase the awesome learning going on. That way I can further support them #CollaborativePD
#bendingED A2b something I learned serving in the US Navy.. inertia makes it hard to turn a big ship. Microcredentials & badges make it possible to show progress towards goal/mission & motivate #collaborativePD
Question: what is a good way to track and award badges? Is there an automated way that can be done through excel or some other program?
#CollaborativePD
A3: Be open to experimenting and give choice. Growth should be a part of every area of education. It's ok to grow into a PD plan that better fits teachers' needs. And visually watching this happen is awesome! #CollaborativePD
A3: We are required to do PD, being able master the PD that was offered earns a badge, how about being a peer presenter ... micro-credential. #CollaborativePD
A2: Engagement, actual connections and demonstration of new skills. Social media workshop? Show me your #PLN. Blogs? Let's see that @edublog or @googlesites#CollaborativePD
Also very important that presenters have rich experiences as teachers, they have to understand teaching's challenges & connect to audience. Nothing worse than listening to someone sell you the next best thing w/out any understanding of what your class looks like #CollaborativePD
