My role model. I strive to be like him daily!
#EduAR

A1. As a teacher it was Mary Oberg, my 5th grade teacher. She was a new teacher and I thought that was amazing. She cared enough to call my parents and tell them I was struggling with math. Stayed after school with me until I understood it. #eduar
A1 I have had many great principles, teachers and SLP's who have encouraged, taught and mentored me over the years. Lots of support and encouragement 😀 #EduAR
A1 So many people over the years. A beloved Principal who was fearless in doing what was best for kids, a visionary supt., colleagues...but it was a 3rd grader with a powerful story & voice that stopped me in my tracks and redefined for me what it meant to be a teacher. #EduAR
A1-I don't know his name. He didn't build relationships but he called parents. And made us stay after school. I had a D in math, after I stayed after school once, I never had anything under a B. Without his call, my school experience could be different! #eduAR
A1: My one person was my high school English teacher. I was shy and rarely spoke. Learning came easy, so I could fly under the radar. He cared enough to make me speak. He found my voice, and I am forever grateful. Relationship was key #EduAR
RT Of Q1. #BeTheOne For Kids talks about how every educator has the power to change the life of a child. Who is that one person that has impacted you and how did they do it? #eduAR

A1: My prof for my undergrad who encouraged me to pursue Special Ed. He made learning fun and taught me to look at things from a different perspective. He was also there for me after I graduated, and even served on my dissertation committee. #eduar
My HS journalism English teacher @MrsFaraWiles saw in me something I didn’t see in myself. She encouraged me to join journalism & eventually, I became the managing editor of our school newspaper. She believed in me & helped me to succeed #EduAR#BeTheOne#LoveLiteracyLearning
A1: I’ve had many great teachers, but when I first became an Assistant Principal, my Principal Larry Anderson was the best role model@I could have. He constantly pushed “What’s Best for Kids?” and showed me its essential to laugh and have fun each day. #EduAR

A3: One of my first years teaching, I met a boy who most had given up on. He was bright, but troubled. I made him talk, I made home visits. I was hard on him. I was certain he hated me until I got an email that thanked me. 😊#EduAR

That is an absolute no brainer for me—my #SchoolSonForLife
Had him in Kinder, then 2nd and have been his mentor every since. He’s in 4th now. It’s a connection I can not explain.
I would adopt him if he wasn’t already.

Today I told a student:
I will watch you graduate.
You will go to college.
I will be at your wedding.
I will see you have kids.
I will be in your life the rest of mine...♥️
Sometimes they just need to hear it, to believe it themselves.

A4: even though it’s “crunch time” before the state testing, I still try to have fun with the kids and adults. Still smile and still dance (poorly and embarrass my daughters) when I can and still show the love. Don’t let the season dictate how much you care. #eduAR
A3: I’ll NEVER forget “K” He came to 1st grade as a struggling reader & I worked with him one on one trying to help him build the foundation that he was missing. 4 years later & he comes by to see me each morning to say hi & share what’s going on. #EduAR#LoveLiteracyLearning
A4. It sounds so simple, but I always try to put myself in the Ss shoes and think about what kind of teacher they want showing up these last few days. They want the same motivated and energetic teacher they've had all year. That's what I want for my own two kids! #EduAR#BeTheOne

A4. When I get to this point in the year, I’m tired, but I run harder than any time in the year. When I can see the finish line, it motivates me to finish strong. No need to leave anything in the tank. I have summer to recharge. #eduAR
A5: I try to give feedback in the moment - direct to ss. I have also taught Ss how to give feedback to one another. Constructive criticism using apps to help one another so it's another voice besides mine. #EduAR
A5. We (Ts and Ss) practice giving kind, helpful, and specific feedback all year in everything we do. We use rubrics to help us accomplish this. Is the feedback kind? Is it helpful (not a "good job" only)? Is it specific so that it is useful? #EduAR#BeTheOne

A5: Feedback is important so that we can grow. Feedback allows us to identify “glows and grows.” When I provide feedback, I like to have a part where the recipient reflects and creates goals. #EduAR#BetheOne#LoveLiteracyLearning
A6. 1. I would want every educator to have to work in different schools and different socioeconomic areas. 2. I would want every decision maker to walk in a teachers shoes. 3. I would want student voice to be used more as a way for decisions to be made. #EduAR#BeTheOne
A6 I would like to change funding for schools so all would be funded equally. I would like to change assessments and report cards to better communicate growth of S's. #3 Would be standardized testing gone #EduAR
A6. Regulations to be less about politics and more about kiddos, for all teachers to find their passion/spark everyday, & funding to represent the level of importance these kids are to our future #EduAR#BeTheOne
A6: 1. Decision makers would need to be in schools & know our stories. 2: Address the impact of standardized testing & influence on school grades. 3. More support to meet the SEL needs of our Ss!! #EduAR
A5: Feedback is crucial. The more you receive, the more you grow. I personally like to talk to people face to face—fosters deeper conversation, but I also enjoy receiving notes. When talking to my partner, we have learned to talk FTF. Prevents misunderstandings. #BeTheOne#EduAR
A4: I agree with @CristinaDajero "FIND YOUR TRIBE". I decided to join a teacher org. that provides more opportunities to interact w/ others who are passionate about teaching. Monthly staff meet ups to just socialize. #BetheOne#EduAR
A4: Rally your strength; Keep routines - even w/changing schedules, et al;Attempt a new activity; Ease ss fear of change/ connection by building possibilities & showing them love; Great ideas from an older article by @artofcoaching1https://t.co/ckOgGqvIqO#eduAR#BeTheOne
A6: 1- I would want more focus on building trusting relationships in schools. 2-I would want more focus on social emotional needs, which makes Ss more available for learning. 3-I would want Ts to try more innovative ways of learning, rather than using lecture/worksheet. #eduar
A6: 1-Have the people making decisions about education policy actually be present in our schools.2-Have Ts receive the respect they deserve for all of their hard work 3-Help Ss see that their voice does matter and IS heard #EduAR#BeTheOne#LoveLiteracyLearning
A6: Jumping in thanks to @MrsHankinsClass ! 1) Revamp transportation for schools 2) Flexible seating should extend beyond the walls of the classroom to better utilize ALL of the space available, and 3) Flexible scheduling. Why not? #eduAR
A3: Three things I would change in education-Decrease the emphasis on standardized testing and increase the use of growth-based and individualized goals, amplify, student voice, and increase opportunities for face to face communication and collaboration. #EDuAr
A6:
1. Developing relationships would be everyones first goal
2. Building a community of learners would be recognized as essential
3. Ever day would start with the reminder that we are teaching kids not numbers.
