  • heidi_vazquezpk Dec 5 @ 9:58 PM EST
#ECEchat A3 Number recognition is always a struggle. They are exposed to counting very young but not to what a number means.
  • snuggleosophy Dec 5 @ 9:58 PM EST
Hi everyone, this is our first #ECEchat! We would love to hear your thoughts on bilingual students. What do you find to be effective teaching strategies for bilingual children?
  • PreK33 Dec 5 @ 9:58 PM EST
A3 #ecechat I feel like my babes struggle the most with one-to-one corr. I wish I knew...I'd like to blame it on the fast-paced world we live in. Counting objects just doesn't come naturally. Neither does slowing down and counting.
    In reply to @techwnancy
  • TheHansolo13 Dec 5 @ 9:59 PM EST
#ECEchat in my pre-student teaching experience, I noticed that many students just memorized math facts and didn't know how to actual solve.
  • CrystalPepperK Dec 5 @ 9:59 PM EST
A3: Greater/more and fewer/less than concepts, 1 to 1 correspondence, number recognition. I think one of the main reasons is lack of experience. #ecechat
  • rpageou Dec 5 @ 10:00 PM EST
Yes, the struggle between helping kids really understand the symbolic representation of a number is so important! Helps to differentiate btwn letters and numbers #ecechat
    In reply to @heidi_vazquezpk
  • vickyfarias7716 Dec 5 @ 10:00 PM EST
A3: I see my students have decent one to one correspondence and counting skills but some struggle with the number recognition. I think they may just have trouble relating the number to the amount. #ecechat
  • KLCseedtotree Dec 5 @ 10:00 PM EST
A3 It varies from S to S & yr to yr; numbers are a language of their own-how they relate and work together can be difficult for some #ECEchat
  • rpageou Dec 5 @ 10:01 PM EST
It's so important to really build number sense to help with problem solving later. It starts in early childhood! #firstfiveyears #ecechat
