A2: I love to use Periscope (an iPad app) for a live view of what’s going on in our school.
A2: We're a GAFE district, also use to flip Ts PD, enhance lessons w/video clips, game based ed (), backchannel convo
Nice on the grant for doc cams !
I started with one and then had to move to a temp building w/o one, I was completely lost!
If you are a fan of Kahoot give Quizizz a try...does a lot of the same but allows for more data collection
A2: I just won a subscription to . I cant wait to use it!
Don’t be . The struggle is real but we push on.
Kahoot is a quiz based competitive web tool that allows kids to answ ? a/ga each other. Data's tallied. https://t.co/WS1K5O2cSu
A1: What is Kahoots? I kept hearing that name at
A2: I used it to collect work samples and track data from my Special Education students in addition to using it for Kahoot!
I know! They quickly become indispensable! Best $130 I ever spent!
A2: With my tech spec, we are having the teachers use Google Drive for their ePortfolio and Google Classroom.
A2: use collaborative tools like Padlet, Google Forms, and YouTube for PD sessions
A3: Allow to differ instruction; shared with SpEd teachers different web-based and apps to assist students who are struggling
A3: Love how iPads have made learning so portable...Ss can take them everywhere...helps support the learning everywhere message
Are you all schools? I wish we were, seems like it would be much more convenient
A3: I much prefer Chromebooks, iPads haven't figured into my teaching much
We love it, but not so compatible with a 1-iPad classroom...would love to be 1:1
what are some of the benefits?
More collaboration goes on; using Drive to share vs. emailing back and forth of different versions, for example
is it beneficial to have just one iPad in a class?
YES!!!! I LOVE Drive, even with my 2nd graders!
the sharing and live editing component would be so nice!
Agreed. My SpEd students and my campus' SS department love it.
It's better than none, but no ideally we need more...honestly I would love to have access to Chromebooks
A) I use my iPad with Ss in counseling by allowing to draw out their feelings or journal.
Technology is my area of weakness. I have 30 kids in all of my 4 classes. It's a challenge!
Yep. Showed my Resource kids last year on how to use it. First group at my campus to use it.
Yes, it is. Amazing. Showed my district's SpEd teachers on using GAFE for themselves and their students.
A4: Sushi Monster is a favorite of mine when it comes to math!
It is so cute and make students retain fluency facts (although the noise can get to you) ;)
A4: My Ss enjoy all the games and activities that come with our Reading Wonders series, furthers instruction
A4) I have many favorites but here lately it's been all about !
My district has a BYOD policy . It helps when we don’t have enough iPads for everyone.
A4: Instead of them beating on my tabletops, I challenged them to become the new Dr.Dre/Timbaland using ! Lol!
Yep. I love me some free no-in-app purchase apps!
A3: I like the iPads for class on the go and less paper. Ss can upload assignments to Edmodo or another portal.
You all have a lot of great app ideas that I'm going to try! I love the idea
What specific apps do you recommend for this?
Love it! I know they prob loved it and helped further T/S relationships
Padlet is great as an exit slip or posting a wonder or question . It has so many uses.
No, for counseling (allowing them to draw out their feelings or journals). This will be great for my Ss.
A5: As w/anything set/review high expectations, reteach/model, if necessary remove privileges for a time period.
Our high school is . My son uses his school issued tablet to upload assignments all the time. He loves it.
I'm teaching an ELA lesson tomorrow to dem. for Ts. You can control your Ss devices via ur phone. https://t.co/J0cWR9cWQ7
How the heck do you all operate nearpod. I tried and have had no success. I'm an android person!
A7: I have non-verbal posters & taunt them w/the invisible big brother watching-that will record them! https://t.co/XBVfjiPo5A
drawing pad and let's draw are two that I use the most.
Thank you for sharing. :)
A5: I've also noticed that adults assume that Ss know how to handle themselves online..they don't...we must teach
A5: Many of the Ts in urban education shy away from tech because of Ss behavior.
Model, observe & trust them. Have a council made of students to give them ownership! https://t.co/xQtuYPlPnj
A5: I've also noticed that adults assume that Ss know how to handle themselves online..they don't...we must teach
I also don't believe that all Ss are digital natives...they may know how to operate it but USE is different
A6 Tech advice: Don't freak out! Don't be scared! Just try it!
We have wifi in the library! Does your campus? Advocate for it! It's a 21st necessity! https://t.co/NPmaPwizkE
you need good connectivity and bandwidth
Yes, just today! My kids loved it!
A6: Good classroom mgmt in place...starting adding tech in when it applies or will amplify ur content...don't use just to use
Mine too! They were so happy! It was adorbs!
A6: My motto is Rome wasn't built in a day!
I definitely agree!! I've started teaching the parents as well. It must start at home. https://t.co/ctTA5Vw1ch
A5: I've also noticed that adults assume that Ss know how to handle themselves online..they don't...we must teach
I allowed them to explore, the trending search was catfish, lol! They were so engaged in reading!
The BYOD and iPads help with student engagement .
Next year my goal is to incorporate 2 pieces of technology.
A6: Ask Ss what they use/want to see in class.Join & see what's new. Attend Digital Learning Conf https://t.co/jpEiFYolzn
really?? I had no idea! Is there a better kid safe search engine?
A5: They lose time on the devices. I’ve found that behaviors are checked when lose of use happens.
A6 You don't have to use a lot of tools. Start w 1. Also think about your school exper & what you wanted your class to be like
A6: find a tool you'd like to try and learn something about it daily. Take baby steps.
I think it's one of the safest...just be aware that it can allow things through
there is nothing perfect - I like Kidrex. Just check search terms first for best results!
Yes, take baby steps . You’ll get there because you desire to do so.
Thank you all for such a great chat! I learned so much tonight!
