#KchatAP (Kindergarten Chat Asia Pacific) is a monthly chat originally started for Early Childhood Educators in the Asia Pacific Region. Topics of discussion focus around best practices and support systems in early learning environments. Whether a classroom teacher, specialist, coach, or administrator, we hope you'll come discuss how we can enhance early education for your youngest learners!
We just finished report writing. It was a lot of work but it was rewarding coz it’s a joy to document/write about each child’s progress. #kchatap#enjoywriting
#kchatap A2 I think it sets everyone up for the day. It’s a beautiful way to tune in to all of our emotions, centre us all as well as let everyone in our days plan. Get excited, share the fun and tune in to our thinking.
A3: we are also looking at building digital citizenship into morning meeting through face-to-face commenting or practicing discussing if an image is fake/real #KchatAP
A3: we love to incorporate movement into our morning meeting. Some of the class come in tired and movement helps get ready for a day of learning, play and interactions. Stretching, yoga, games and @GoNoodle are great ways of building community, trust and having fun.
#KchatAP Sorry I’m late, Cat here from HK. A3 I’m a mindfulness coach and I like to check in with children’s feelings at the start of the day in morning meeting.
Depends what day it is but feelings check in, listening to each other, story shares. Whatever it is developing the routine for listening, sitting, sharing, thinking.

#kchatap - I’m a big story share fan. That links us up to the rest of our day or brings us back to prior learning. I like to find books, songs, YouTube clips that share what we are thinking about to tune us back in and set us up. #A4

A4: I’m big at developing the love of reading. I do a lot of reading aloud - during reading aloud, the Ss learn to make predictions, wonder, answer questions, and learn to focus as well. Also, they start to learn the book are written by someone, it has an author. #KchatAP
A4: I joined in a morning meeting in 1st grade and the T handed out different addition problems. Students had to walk to find their partner where the answers were the same for their equations and discuss how they solved it #KchatAP
A4: like to incorporate #thinkingroutines into the morning meeting. It’s a great way of starting the day sharing our ideas and thoughts so that our collective understanding grows. Zoom in, see think wonder, step inside are favourites at this time. #kchatap
See think wonder is a great starting thinking routine. Think puzzle explore works well. Zoom in is great with the right images. Step inside helps students to think about being a character in a book. Tug of war too.
A5: I use a lot of animated online stories. Ss learn a not from them, most esp EALs. :-) And it’s amazing the focus the Ss have while looking into an animated online stories. Song.Stories app has great stories and songs for developing literacy and math skills. #KchatAP
We just went through responsive classroom training, and Morning Meeting is a huge part of their model. It takes 20mins at the start of the dayhttps://www.responsiveclassroom.org/what-is-morning-meeting/ #KchatAP

A6: Our G3-5 teachers really struggled to carve out 20 mins at the start of their day initially because of how much they need to do in a day. Now they are seeing some benefits to the community building but still struggle with time #KchatAP
Q6: Langauge is quite hard especially at the beginning of the year. I have part of my Meeting time translated in Chinese. It does make my Meeting time a bit longer, but I get my students more engaged. #KchatAP
