Something I'm gonna do a lot for sure. I think going outdoors is something that is overlooked as (at least when I were a student in school) I felt like they wanted us to stay inside the classroom #KinderChat

I can think of only three times of going outside in HS. Twice in science to do experiments that we really shouldn't had been doing 😂😭😂😭😂😭 and once in LA3 to read. Maybe three or four times through elementary/MS #Kinderchat

Wonder 2: In an overly concrete/blacktop playground, what are some "nature" experiences child can be involved in? #kinderchat

See, my little soapbox is these concrete jungles. I want my children to feel like that is THEIR space, so that as they grow, they will continue to respect it and value it. Maybe they won't be the ones coming in to vandalize it in the future. #kinderchat

It’s their community. Their right to be in that community. Our students know nearly every inch of our industrial neighborhood and it makes them better citizens. #kinderchat

Wonder #3: Why is it important for kids experience the concrete spaces as well the green spaces on a regular basis? #kinderchat
  • tiegradloeppky Nov 20 @ 9:49 PM EST
How did that work? Was it a grant process or just working together? #kinderchat

Definitely should. This is something Home Depot helped our school with. Another year, another T's husband made planter boxes for the Ss in VPK so they could do a garden too. #kinderchat

And that is why I asked :) I think sometimes people forget that kids need that connection to where they are, whether it's an industrial area of a green belt. The sense of place and belonging is SO important #kinderchat

I’d be careful about this perception. As a preschool director in urban of all urban lands, we would love our kids to help plan and execute something like this, but have the reality of a landlord who hasn’t relented (yet). #kinderchat #MyMiniCaution

As we draw to a close tonight, what is one thing you can do with your students outside this week, even in the chillier, wetter, snowier weather? #kinderchat
  • KC_SEASportsFan Nov 20 @ 9:55 PM EST
Concur. Ugh. I keep forgetting to add the #KinderChat hashtag tonight 😡😡😡😡😡

One thing I love to do with my students is to just play outside. It’s important to remember that joy, and to allow them to have that joy. Especially on the swings! #kinderchat
  • tiegradloeppky Nov 20 @ 9:56 PM EST
I'll start! I want to get powder paint out with some paper in a drizzle and see if we can make rain art :) If it's a downpour though, it won't work. #kinderchat
  • KeeneeLou Nov 20 @ 9:56 PM EST
Same! Sometimes it's fun to have the whole play structure and the swings to ourselves! #kinderchat

We have discovered jumping off the swings. I it my tongue and let them do some risk assessment of their own. #kinderchat

On Thanksgiving break this week here in Florida, it also never snows 🤣 So, if it's not raining we can explore pretty regularly during winter #kinderchat

Right?? That's why I love starting the day outside now. We just bring a wagon of stuff out and I let them have it! #kinderchat

One of my favourite days is “sledding day”. When we spend all morning outside sledding. #grossmotor #kinderchat

I wish we could go sledding but we are not allowed. I am collecting shovels and buckets and different things we can take with us outside to play in the snow. #kinderchat
