. my heart is full. Our Ss can teach all of us about service - doesn't always need a classroom
A WORD to remember in ANY discipline!!! Especially in !! OTHERS AND give !!
Good advice for our students via - Surround yourself with positive people.
That is so true. Each person should realize that they can make a real difference.
Excellence must always be the standard. Simple!

Are enough teachers from your school supported to attend education conferences?
I enjoy learning from colleagues thru the networking opportunities available at education conferences.
Good for building but not convinced they produce transformational learning

Not convince edu confs are a terrifically effective method of PL (too much one-&-done), but they can be motivational.
Are Edu conferences limited to too few educators in order to affect change systematically?
Educational conferences are a great place to exchange ideas and different practices. I always enjoy learning a different perspective
I’ve attended many conferences where ppl skipped formal sessions & created personal learning convos in the hallways.
And staring at the speedometer instead of the road will lead to a crash. https://t.co/sCi4vK9aAv
The statistical problem with test score obsession https://t.co/wjxyomF1RX Or how messing with the speedometer won't make the car go faster
Very true. If they don’t put anything into action, the conf is a waste of time & money. https://t.co/HTnqwxW1EY
the effectiveness is based on the mindset of the teacher in terms if what they learned gets put into action
Edu conferences can "trigger awareness" (Caleb Gattegno) ... then Ts must pursue related learning; PLCs are good for this
Conferences are good for exposure to new ideas. Can spark more learning
limited to "too few" teachers participating ... seems like 10-20% of Ts are pushing change 60-70% along for ride and 10% fighting
definitely a good place for teachers and administrators to have access to others https://t.co/4PdwRY87nP

I'll be in for the next hour.
Ed Conferences give teachers the opportutnity to network, rejuvinate and refocus their mindset to better inspire students
Enough support in order to attend so yes $, time, and permission.
Conferences are great motivators ... need to capture that motivation and carry it too school
As a media specialists I was always excited to attend conference workshops and always gleaned innovative ideas.
Conferences can also have very inspiring components or speakers - that rejuvenate us before returning to work
One problem with conferences: too much information. I can get overloaded and then "forget" everything when I go back to school.
i wonder is "non" motivated teacher went to a conference if they would get same out of it as a motivated teacher.
Learning requires grappling; so edu conferences can give you the idea, but you've got to get grappling! Transformational learning!
Ten years retired and I still attend edtech conferences, mostly as a presenter. Not out of the game yet!
We firmly believe that we've grown as educators by attending professional conferences. It's great to learn what others do.
How many conference attendees both admins & teachers formally share their conference experiences with staff upon their return?
I think the way we do conferences need to change. I like how Google conferences use table talks, sessions, and demo slams
not always effective unless they learning is followed up and practiced in context. https://t.co/HuxXUuJSVk

If you only get a surface level understanding, how can you share with colleagues? https://t.co/8aFPtr18jZ

Our school supports us to attend/present at conferences. It sees the benefits we bring back to use with students/faculty.
in humans growth (learning) is more about motivation than opportunity ...
Some of the best learning at an edtech conference happens at the bar after the formal business of the day is done.
We made great connections w teachers at edu conferences.Shared info abt our free PD webinars&wrkshops! More:https://t.co/GTdwpeePm4
We would have never found had we not been at a conference, or discovered the book and chat.
Well, I’m not usually at the bar but certainly agree the best learning often happens after hours. :) https://t.co/EbstEanE6Y

yes - a spark that gives you an idea (or several) to go deeper into later https://t.co/CHzxIaO8Bt

We are always asked to recap and share what we've learned with faculty - the PD continues that way.
I find it useful to hold onto a small number of things that stood out, and go deeper into those later https://t.co/TmrrxP6QfE

My Prev school had in 10% bought in ... the rest were like whatever
Remember, it's really about the people and the connections, not the agenda or the content. Those are devices to get us talking.
So true - casual conversation with pals can go deeper than conferences! https://t.co/idmmUVAB3J

I love conferences with a wide variety of presenters - especially teacher-led conferences!

definitely - I always try to simplify but it doesn't always work out ;)

Maybe needs a new hashtag. This one seems to have been co-opted.
is a leading education hashtag used to extend the range of any tweet about education, it has been that way for years.
Tough question. Very often, the return on investment from large conf isn’t worth the investment in time & money.
maybe we can add a specific second hashtag to filter out ones from the chat and "extensions" https://t.co/Qy2ivCaLRi

As attendees to conferences, we look for teacher led presentations. We find vendor presentations try to sell too much.
Now discussing Topic: How are Education conferences effective sources of professional development for most teachers?
I think it's important for staff to know about conference opportunities in the first place. Better communication would help

agreed. I hate sitting through "presentations" that are actually "sales pitches" https://t.co/RfzNtT4eJ5

Conferences can be less about breakout sessions and more about hanging out and chatting with other teachers
Travel expenses make this difficult https://t.co/Xiy6xx3r7l

Some conferences are worth attending every year; we feel others we can alternate from year to year.
Find vendors who are first passionate educators, and then happen to work for a living too! ;-) https://t.co/Igq4LvbnBt

If I didn't feel conferences were beneficial, I wouldn't keep presenting, usually at my own expense!
There is an energy at large confs that can really motivate participants but still not sure it’s especially effective PL.
We still look for actual classroom application. For us, it makes a difference; the focus is more targeted.
Absolutely, and it helps to diversify. https://t.co/UMKglM474D

Agreed! But take my work ... we transform teaching and learning in classrooms ... lots of stories to share! https://t.co/13U3bscB3l

Social Media has given both transparency and publicity to education conferences & created a star system of presenters.
Readers theater is my favorite way to teach speaking to ELs
I like a balance between large and small - large can be inspring, but small you can go deeper into topics https://t.co/z0v94gItJU

As this week's comes to a close I would like to thank for moderating and thanks too to all who participated in our Chat.
I agree and find the most beneficial pd expects and creates a catalyst/framework for those conversations
Take care! Hope to see you on the circuit.
Thanks to all who participated in tonight’s conversation & to co-mod extraordinaire,
enjoyed chatting everyone - cheers to future ed conferences
Sorry I missed. I'll check it later.
