A1 Students need to understand and believe they can #MakeADifference no matter what age, what socioeconomic stratus, on whatever level #power#AppleEDUchat
Choice is so important. It must come from the student. They have to have the buy in to make the change. Choice aligns nicely with Universal Design for Learning. Something all of us should consider. #AppleEDUchat

By having students connect to real issues you are allowing them to have a voice in the world around them.Authentic PBL units can be the spark the lights up students. #AppleEDUchat
A5: Realizing community connections builds hope. It was a team effort at Pittsburghās major research library today working on creating Clips documentaries, with an 8th grader proclaiming, āI want to go to college to do this now!ā #AppleEDUChat
When students are creating for themselves, their peers, their community, and the world, their learning and creativity shines through in much more authentic & meaningful products/creations than when they create for the teacher alone #AppleEDUChat
A5: Our students created a story about our Ladue Sparkle Effect, an all-inclusive dance team. The video story was included and Sparkle leaders interviewed for a professional show @HEC_TV. You can see their work on our homepage https://t.co/WwnqYyLZsb. #AppleEDUChat

A5: If this doesnāt explain it , then I give up š¤·š»āāļø! Students already know things are happening around them connecting š ā”ļø š helps them not feel alone in their own struggles. #AppleEDUChat
A5: Connections provide a real reason for learning. If I know that someone other than my teacher is going to see what I create Iām going to try in a very different way. It also creates a sense of curiosity thatās not there when it just learning from a text. #AppleEduChat
Here is our portfolio we started ... its in early stages but we just started the club -- so amazing to get the kids together and let them decide what we should do https://t.co/HpA3ZQOQiJ#AppleEDUchat
So coool! Connections to the past helps learners develop empathy and roots. Knowing of struggles that were met and concord before empowers future success! #AppleEDUchat
A5 Have you ever noticed when you are learning something real and actionable it is more interesting! RELEVANCY is so important in school. All ages. #AppleEDUchat

Rainy traffic=. Late to the twitter party! āļøBut A5 Connection to the outside world makes all the difference! When my students connected with a Deaf Class suddenly what we were learning that week in ASL class really mattered!!! šš¤#AppleEDUChat
A5 If we're serious re: schools preparing students for real world, we do them no favors w isolated classroom-shaped bubbles; low risk high reward opps abound: write advocacy letters, design promo materials, measure blueprints, propose budgets #AppleEduChat
A5: It allows them to understand different perspectives, learn from a broader range of resources, and helps develop their passions and voice which may be stagnant without the opportunity to connect to a wider audience. #AppleEDUChat
A5 It shows that what theyāre doing in school is real and has a purpose - that it isnāt some sort of canned lesson or something theyāll talk about once and never use again. What they do can make a difference. #AppleEDUchat
A5: Giving students real-life situations and showing them how relevant the material is can motivate students to think critically. Application of learned knowledge increases participation and highlights student interest. #AppleEDUchat#EDU5720@JMcCarthyEdS
A2 Grade 3 and 4 Students voted to create an app to deal with too much screen time. They want the app to promote social interaction through hands on games. #AppleEDUchat
How do we make sure that our push for social change is not our idea of what us right but our students! I worry about ābeing politicalā #AppleEDUchat
A6 A 6 Teachers have the power to get kids involved and to impact positive change. Itās OUR job. Even something small helps the child to see that s/he is important and has a voice in this world. It all makes a difference. #AppleEDUchat
A6 I think itās so incredible that kids are real leaders I think highlighting real kids who are movement leaders and agents of change is important.#AppleEDUchat

A6: incorporate math! Look at data and statistics! Our students are currentlycomposing music are are asked to put it on a social platform to get feedback, views, likes, etc.- then we can take and analyze and compare data! #AppleEDUchat
Provide real-world projects. Connect w/parents in different industries to create projects which involve our lessons. Connect the dots to an end product. And finally, IMHO, create video! Itās easy to share, fun to produce, & can show great comprehension. I can help. #AppleEduChat
A5 Education isn't about school. It's about the world. How do you connect kids with the world? Field trips, books, collaboration... and of course, technology! Curiosity and empathy expand when kids hear others' stories and perspectives from near and far. #appleeduchat
A5 and when Ss don't have the answers you teach them to reach out to expers. Here they listen to a scientist from our local university where they could ask their own questions #AppleEDUchat
A6: If we see the world through the lens of hope, then students will to ā¤ļø. Technology fortunately allows us more opportunities to make an impact- both in our immediate surroundings and also across the world. š #AppleEDUchat
A6 by LISTENING to what Ss have to say and validating their ideas we as educators can give them the impetus to āBe the Change" they envision.
#AppleEDUchat
A6 The UN Sustainable Development Goals (https://t.co/XWHHlUxsHj) are a powerful way to impact how Ss can see and impact the world. This coupled w having Ss connect with other Ss around the world is the key #AppleEDUchat
A5 and when Ss don't have the answers you teach them to reach out to expers. Here they listen to a scientist from our local university where they could ask their own questions #AppleEDUchat
A6 we can make them see that the world is a much larger place than where they live and go to school. We can show them that the world can be a kind and welcoming place through our own actions and behaviors. #AppleEDUchat
A6: we can let students see the world with an open mind. I want students to have tolerance and understanding of everyone no matter where they are from or what they believe. They way to do that is to expose them to the world , not a small circle. #AppleEDUChat
A6: building that culture of taking risks and where students feel comfortable to ask questions. Be honest with students. I always loved CNN student news as a classroom teacher. Make sure not to just discuss but how can we help and act. #AppleEDUchat
A6 Leverage social media to share their stories; use networks such as #AppleEDUchat & other PLNs to help students see that others find value in their work; build a social media following in service of amplifying student voices & solutions #AppleEDUchat
A6: Give them a voice and opportunities to be change leaders. Be their guide to understanding the world around them and the world around others. #AppleEDUChat
#AppleEDUchat A5: By giving students the opportunity to connect their learning to the world, you are enabling them to learn these essential skills: empathy, problem-solving, responsibility, cause/effect, and experiences that they will remember long after the curriculum has faded
A6:We have to be our students' cheerleader to build them up and give them confidence. It is amazing how powerful you feel when you have someone cheering you on, and telling you how important you are! #AppleEDUchat
A5: from personal experience, connecting students to the outside world gives them (and ya educators) such a feeling of pride, accomplishment, and empowerment. They learn that their voice and actions can and do matter. #AppleEDUchat
Thanks for hosting! Thought-provoking questions which allowed for specific ideas and collaboration. Well done! Have a great night everyone. #appleeduchat
Thank you everyone for an awesome chat tonight! It is always fun listening and learning from you! Can't wait to go back and read what I missed when it was live! #AppleEDUchat
A6: by creating opportunities for students to participate that actually create change. One project Iāve worked on is racial representation in toy magazines. Students took a tally and wrote to toy companies. They received letters back and were so fired up! #AppleEduChat
A6 I think providing examples of other students their age who've made a difference can make an impression and help get them past that āIām just a kid / teenager / undergradā mentality. #AppleEDUchat
Absolutely! Great job to both @StirpeCon and @cindyherren. Really made me evaluate my classes much closer. Thanks for all of the inspiration #AppleEDUChat
A6: Framing ālessonsā by āhow can we help?ā āWhat can we do?ā And assisting with the tools to get them there. Super inspired by @jdeinhammer and her students āLong Walk To Waterā project and the water box from the AZ school at Leadership&Learning conference in PHX #AppleEDUchat
A6 Work some questions into your teaching repertoire: Why should we care about this? Who else would care? Who is affected? Who is included? Who is left out? What do others think, and why? How should things be? What can we say? What can we do? What can we create? #appleeduchat
A6: By continuing to build a strong foundation of problem solving. āāļøIf students have confidence that they can solve real problems in the world and we continue to feed their passions...then man weāre all in luck š. #AppleEDUChat
