A4: yes! when my students run their podcast: ikidapod: coverage of the Iditarod + more, provides by kids, it hits on reading, history, writing and math. It’s absolute magic when it happens #AppleEDUchat
When I taught US History, I did a project for #BlackHistoryMonth called 3 Minute History, students made 3 minute stories on the life of "lesser known" African Americans that made major contributions to science, politics, arts, etc. #AppleEduChat
For the students, maybe no. Teachers, absolutely. Can help inform how they engage with their students and meet the needs of all learners. #AppleEDUchat
A4) We are working to transition to the “real world” & storytelling is such an important skill. Once they are comfortable in the learning environment generalize those skills - a job interview is another form of storytelling, doesn’t seem so scary then. #AppleEduChat
lol use Clips! I am obsessed and my kids are too! They use it in many of our classrooms now (grades k-5) and the possibilities are endless! Also @sketchbookapp is great for #Sketchnotes and drawing! #AppleEDUchat :) I can share demo videos if you'd like!
In reply to
@DrTerriC, @MsTaylorBlades, @castlestephanie, @sketchbookapp

#AppleEDUchat
A5: digital stories have leveled the playing field. Now underrepresented and marginalized voices have a platform. The more this happens, the more we equip our students to share and learn their voices, the closer we are to social change. #AppleEDUChat
A5: I hear a lot of students complain about things they don't like or things that bother them. Instead of talking about it...TAKE ACTION! Make a public service announcement. #AppleEDUchat
A5: My students have created public awareness videos tied to their research projects spreading awareness on what people in our community can do to make a productive changes. #AppleEDUChat
Clips is a great app! It’s perfect for students who aren’t comfortable showing their face on a video but they can reply using graphics, videos, their voice, and music to customize answers to their needs. #AppleEDUChat #3043
A5: I would even consider thematic social media posts to be a part of digital storytelling - https://t.co/3eh3CGMeiG Such a positive message and great example of what should be shared online #AppleEDUchat
A5 This has citizen journalism written all over it. Also, in light of natural disasters (for example) students can tell their story from their perspective. #AppleEDUchat
A5: My students always surprised me. These students taught others about the harmful effects of cyber bullying to make others mindful about this problem with our youth. https://t.co/z5i0VmLdtp#AppleEDUchat
A5: The best way to impact another person is through a story. It is more impactful than facts. A digital story or film (especially if it goes viral). It can be powerful for good or bad - think Metropolis vs Birth of a Nation #AppleEduChat

A5: I’ve seen a lot of great stories come from our students during #geniushour when they share a message about a passion to make a difference in our commmunity. #AppleEDUchat
A5) Young adults reengaging with learning again knowing they can share their voice changes their future dreams. Being a part of something beyond themselves, collaboratively, authentically & becoming leaders changes their present positively. #AppleEDUChat
I used digital storytelling to allow children with disabilities to introduce themselves to new teachers at IEP meetings or to their new class. Often children with communication deficits can connect quickly and easily with digital stories. #AppleEDUchat
A4: Here is an clip of a Jeopardy game that was a collaboration between art and the classroom (they were studying biographies)
Still my FAVORITE project ever - this was part of a full-length film that we shared at a local movie theater with a red carpet premiere! #AppleEDUchat
A5 students using a variety of tools on iPad to create a 17 minute tutorial on the complement system (immune response) The students truly told this story correctly. https://t.co/4cpuaAwBGL#AppleEDUChat
A digital story is great way to start an IEP meeting! The most important person in the room shares their messages to set the tone of the meeting. #AppleEDUChat
A5: I have a group of 5th graders that wanted to create a childrens book to convince younger students to take showers instead of baths to save water. #appleeduchat They published it https://t.co/gKnVF38Flk
Grad school My friend Mary Kelly did her dissertation on having kids with IEPs create a video story of their lives and experiences and show it at their meetings. So they had a voice in the process and were not put on the spot talking to adults. #appleeduchat#brilliant
A5) I would like to use Digital Storytelling to show that students with significant disabilities have a voice and a story to tell. By telling their story, students show that they have more ABILITY than disability and it help to eliminate stereotypes of society. #AppleEDUchat
#AppleEDUchat A5 - Connect back to current events/essentially with the world they live in. Ss already understand a lot of what is occurring in the world and want to have a voice Let them (with you guiding them as the teacher) explore the why and the how of world events @Newsela
A5: Digital storytelling gives students a voice that is different than writing on paper. DS can easily be share with the world with a click of a mouse or tap on “enter.” Ss can learn the power and responsibility it take to influence positive change digitally #AppleEDUChat
Q6: Lately I've been sharing Keynote ideas: Single slide postcards, summary, etc, and Keynote for journals. I like the idea of using built in apps in different ways, so I'm not always pushing a new tool. #AppleEDUchat
A6: have your students join the #MagicMoveChallenge Each day @mcoutts81 and I post a theme. Your job is to use Keynote to create animated stories. #appleeduchat Tomorrow's theme: Dad jokes.
A6 Simple, but the camera. Start with capturing photos. "They" say we photograph things that matter to us. Let's take some pics and encourage our kids to do so, too! #AppleEDUchat
Two of my favorites as well! So, A6: ditto to @castlestephanie. Also, love the collaborative feature on #KeyNote for group projects with Ss in other classes (or countries) #AppleEDUchat
My students have access to a lot of different tools on their iPads, and I let them choose what platform they want to use, and I just be there to support them. But I am finding more and more use Clips to tell their stories. #appleeduchat
I didn’t add those to my list - young adults love using Keynote and Garage Band (then they know they can use the music in addition to podcasting). #AppleEDUChat
#AppleEDUchat Address that @UN says that 5.6 million kid sunder age 5 are dying yearly from preventable causes-half caused by hunger!! Unfathomable!! Must save lives now!! Spread @ShareTheMealorg-50 cents feeds a starving child for day! Call congress-tell them to pass Reach Act!
A7: Speech to text that is built into so many apps and programs these days are a game changer for students that struggle with writing and/or typing #AppleEDUChat
A: Book Creator, Clips, iMovie, are my faves and I’ve just begun using Adobe Spark video. The Ss love these and they are easy for them to use and then Publish. #AppleEDUchat
We were learning about the SETT framework today in class. and many of my students suggested accessible digital storytelling without knowing it.. #appleeduchat
A5 Stories can move mountains. I think about Harry Potter or hunger games that have been movements. Our students can create stories that are important to them and share their valued work with the world. #AppleEDUchat
A7) Allowing Ss to choose the tool to demonstrate their learning/share their story. Then everyone is using a tool that meets their need. Perhaps able to teach others how to use their favorite tool too sometime, #AppleEDUChat
A7: A lot of digital storytelling is inherently #accessible since literacy isn’t an immediate barrier, but we’ve used elegize, digital switches and other Mac accessibility features to make it even more so #AppleEDUChathttps://t.co/1FVP5jWIbN
A7: Technology allows for voice and choice in ed by giving Ss ways to develop their own academic skills. Removes potential barriers by enhancing features not available w paper. #AppleEDUchat
Don't bite off more than you can chew, start with one app/program and incorporate it into your lessons. Also, you don't have to be an expert, your Ss can teach you a lot about different apps/programs #AppleEDUChat
a8) Pay attention to what makes you click on facebook etc.. pay attention to how they tell the story, and emulate that in your structure. #AppleEDUchat
A7: Dictation makes all the difference in the world! I have Ss who HATE writing/typing because they struggle with spelling/reading. Speech to text in #ClassroomClips gives them the chance to see what they said, and learn from it, without the frustration of writing! #AppleEDUchat
Don't bite off more than you can chew, start with one app/program and incorporate it into your lessons. Also, you don't have to be an expert, your Ss can teach you a lot about different apps/programs #AppleEDUChat
A7: Tech itself empowers kids w/ ALL abilities; ask Ss to read or write something & you're bound to have a few who struggle or are disinterested, but I've never (to date!) had a kid "not want to" watch a video and/or make one! Ss LOVE it and forget they're learning! #AppleEDUchat
Thanks to everyone for sharing their ideas digital storytelling ideas tonight on #AppleEDUChat. Keep sharing your digital stories. We all look forward to seeing them! Have a great night.
Might be blasphemy in this chat but I prefer @soundtrap over Garage Band, I find it easier to use and the sharing capabilities are top notch! #AppleEDUChat
A8: You don't have to be an expert at an App for kids to use it.... Don't try to limit their creativity to using just one app. Allow them the freedom of expression #appleeduchat
You don’t need to be an expert in all the tech-facilitate-focus on the storytelling/giving voice and choice is everything-start small and share with the world #AppleEDUchat
A7) We can use voice over, video with picture symbols/ text.. I am sure we will learn a lot more ways in class :) @DrTerriC (I forgot to use the hashtag..again) #AppleEDUchat
Q8: Start with a small project to get your feet wet. We are always pushing to get to the top of the SAMR model, sometimes starting in the Substitution level helps teachers new to tech get started. #AppleEDUchat
