Hi #Read4Fun Chat friends! Thanks for joining as @teresagross625 moderates our March Madness Inspired Chat tonight! The Qs will come from her account tonight. Have fun!
Greetings from the Michigan-Ohio state line on my way home from seeing my 1st alma mater beat my 2nd, plus that Syracuse upset of MSU. A big fan of reading and March Madness. #Read4Fun
A1 I always have books available to share with Ts and Ss. Just let a Ss borrow Dear Martin - he's in 10th now and we have shared books since he was in elementary school! #Read4Fun
A1 During our poetry SSR unit, I read alongside them, and actively show my frustration when SSR time was up. I also try to have the sequels of great books so kiddos can cont. on in the series. #read4fun
A1 I usually share what I am reading, have books on display in my room, share some w/colleagues, definitely share them on Twitter or in presentations #read4fun
A1: I keep my students motivated by letting them be creative with the way they present the reading they are doing. And let them keep visible logs in the classroom so other students can see what everyone including myself is reading. #read4fun
When Percy Jackson was hot, I had tons of boys in and out of my room, trading and turning in the latest book. They knew I'd be good for buying the next one, too. Helped I enjoy reading YA. #read4fun
A1 #Read4Fun: I think I'm more of a reading cheerleader than coach! I tend to get really excited and animated when talking to students and staff about books! GO TEAM! 📣👏
A1 We have diff readers in our Spanish classes and I try to make it more engaging and fun by acting out the parts sometimes, and then have Ss read and I enjoy the time to interact w/them as they read #read4fun
We have been using a FlipGrid recently. I keep an open forum going so students can leave blurbs for each other about what they are reading. #read4fun#MEDA5400edchat
A1: Daily read aloud time in kindergarten! Leading by example. Showing them all the adventures you can go on by just opening a book! Also providing "just right" books for them so they can be independent successful readers. #read4fun
A1. Knowing my teachers and what they love, what their classes love, what individuals love, through long and short book convos. Whenever we can. #read4fun
FlipGrid has been amazing for my classroom. I have even given parents the option to post things. And I used them for conferences this year as well. #read4fun#MEDA5400edchat

Hello! Mollie from Ohio. Joining late. A1:choice, freedom and uninterrupted time to read each day - nonnegotiable. My second graders flourish as readers. #Read4Fun
A2 Always engage in chats here or on @voxer with other educators and always engage in convos with Ss about books - usually leads to one of us giving the other a recommend! #Read4Fun
A1 I read for fun, myself and share what I'm reading with my Ss and coworkers, I also try to keep my class library filled with a variety of books, magazines, comics, etc. #read4fun
I have been reading The Magic Misfits. Total YA, but even as an adult I have found it to be an incredible read. Reading has knows no age boundaries in my opinion. #read4fun#MEDA5400edchat
✨A2: #GBL! We’ve been practicing main idea. For each correct answer, they earned a leprechaun shot (spun from a crazy Wheel Decide), then they could use their XP (points for doing extra) to shoot regular shots. Gold, silver, bronze were given for our class game.✨ #Read4Fun
A2 Depends on the class, sometimes reading with a partner, or their small group in stations, Ss are hesitant to read in Spanish sometimes, so it is more comfortable to start in small groups #read4fun
A2 I love Notice and Note, both fiction & nonfiction, to help Ss ID what is imp. in a text. And I love @activelylearn for my college kiddos, to add annotations as support when the txt gets tough. #read4fun
A2: I guess I answered this earlier when talking about Flip Grid. I have also had my students dabbling in using Sway, but more with research projects and not so much with what they are reading. Tips? #read4fun#MEDA5400edchat
A2 @Goodreads, @pbsbooks, @Amazon book lists. I also encourage students to share reasons for their reading. Thinking deeper about the text beyond the book jacket. I love hearing answers about style and tone. #read4fun
this year I am all about making changes, getting out of the way, and creating more opps for Ss to work together and give me time to work with them as well #read4fun
Hi! I’m Kasey Vallone and I am a proud third grade ELAR teacher at Forest Lane Academy. For March Madness I’m just rooting for whichever teams make my bracket beat the other brackets in our family league. 😏 #read4Fun
A2:using @Seesaw to engage in book rec videos, blog posts and just “talking” about books. However, I’ve found if you give your Ss time to read and choices from a well stocked library it kind of just happens. I just enhance and guide. #Read4Fun
A2. I use reading standards for read-alouds, then stand aside to let the students parse it out for themselves after they've enjoyed the story. Love to tell them these are skills they will use for years. #read4fun
A2 #read4fun: Some of my favorite resources are @Seesaw & Kidspiration to show what they know. I also like @EpicKidsBooks and @OverDriveLibs for Ss and Ts to access ebooks and audiobooks!
A2: Take time to ask Ss & Ts what they need, and their interests. You can also know a lot about diff books even if you have not read them all. #Read4Fun
A2 We have Reading conferences and guided reading groups. They like Reading Check In with Flipgrid, Sketchnoting for Comprehension and Book Talks. #Read4Fun
A3 It's really hard to pick just one!!! I would say Dear Martin really has impressed me since I first read an advance copy last summer. Just incredibly well done! #Read4Fun@getnicced
A2 one of the resources I've used to help them build on their fluency is @Seesaw and @Flipgrid so they could record themselves and watch the playback. Helped them to be able to hear and see themselves read. #read4fun
A2: I help my "team" improve their game with literacy centers focusing on word work and giving them time to read independently or with a partner. The skill focus depends on the group it could be letter id, decoding, fluency or a combination of skills/strategies. #Read4Fun
What a great idea! I had 6th graders sketch while reading The One and Only Ivan aloud. It was a moving experience for all of us with @kaaauthor's masterwork inspiring us. #read4fun
Yes — we can’t read every book or love every genre. But that doesn’t mean kids won’t take our recommendations. Recommending is attending, showing you care about the reader, not about reading every book. #Read4Fun
A1 One way I motivate readers is celebrating and sharing ways real readers can “read in the wild.” (Thanks @donalynbooks) when students have access to books they are interest in AND find everyday moments when reading is possible the spark is ignited. #read4fun
✨A3: Among the Hidden by Margaret Haddix is the champion in my classroom! It is the 1st book in the Shadow Children Series. I ❤️ that my students get so engaged with it that many go on to read the whole series!🙌✨ #Read4Fun
A3 Without a doubt Fish in A Tree by @LynMullalyHunt This fit my year to a tee. We are still reading in, but it has interesting listening to my Ss make connections to the main character or things that have happened to them. #read4fun
A2 Hello from WV! This is a new favorite of mine for understanding tiers of vocabulary and for ideas for supporting s's vocabulary acquisition and interest #read4fun
So many books I love, but I think this is my favorite this year. Love the message and the main character. An important book for kids to read to foster compassion and acceptance. #Read4Fun
A3. My kinders adore Dragons Love Tacos 2 and want book 3. Now. I adore The Book of Mistakes and follow it with What Do You Do with a Problem? #read4fun

Thanks to @teresagross625 for a great March Madness themed #Read4Fun chat. Don't forget to visit her at #pd4uandme and join her new Saturday morning chat.
A3:we’re currently doing march book madness. For that, it’s not jack and the beanstalk won in our room. We did a mock Caldecott in January/February and enjoyed reading all the titles, but After the Fall and Legend of Rock Paper Scissors were faves. #read4fun

@lynMullalyhunt is a gift to children’s literature. I was blessed to hear her speak at my daughter’s graduation! I start fish in a tree on Monday. Can’t wait! #read4fun

A3: Turkey Trouble by Wendi Silvano is always a class favorite! It is a great book to highlight the elements of The Story Grammar Marker. This helps build comprehension and retell skills. #read4fun
