Happy #satchat day! Andrew from CT. Middle school literacy coach--aspiring admin. I will be lurking today as I try to learn ways to help my T's who are just getting G-classroom.
Good morning #satchat Brian from Fairfax VA, former English teacher, former middle school tech specialist, now ESOL data specialist and fan of all things #Google
Meanwhile all Schiff, Pelosi and the rest of the short bus Dem operatives do is insult hardworking, taxpaying, law-abiding AMERICANS by lecturing us to put illegals first while trying to unseat a dually elected POTUS. @RepAdamSchiff you're a disgrace to the flag! #satchat
Trump goes to Davos, having insulted many of the world leaders there, to tell them to put “America First.” Apparently this is the difference between a really smart diplomatic strategy and one that is only “like, really smart.”
Good morning, #satchat. I'm Brian. I teach middle-school students English at a district in Colorado where Chromebooks & G Suite for Edu are becoming our default settings.

Q1:
What advice can you give educators that have access to G Suite for Education in their classroom, school, or district but are not really using it? #satchat#HackGoogleEDU
A1 Similar advice that I share for all #edtech integration opportunities: playfully explore, start small, know your outcomes, collaborate, ask Ss. #satchat
A1 Jump in and use it! Explore the features until you find a good fit for your classroom. Give that app a try. G Suite has a way of snowballing - you'll keep finding new ways to use it. #satchat#HackGoogleEDU
A1: Tinker, click around and explore! You can not break The Google. Using the suite with your students will amp up your practice & experience of school for students! #satchat
A1- I actually had this convo this week !! I showed the ways it has benefitted my class and my organization BUT agreed that education shouldn't be " cookie cutter style" and she shouldn't be forced to use it, but see it as a tool in the tool box #satchat
A1 Ask yourself are you reaching all your learners with your current methods? If not, there are features in Google drive, docs, classroom which help you reach all learners. #Satchat
A1: Tinker, click around and explore! You can not break The Google. Using the suite with your students will amp up your practice & experience of school for students! #satchat
A1: attend sn #edtechteam summit and you will be hooked! If thats not possible use the lessons #googleedu has online and set a goal to take level 1 & 2 tests. Resources out there are endless #satchat
A1. A suggestion to try 1 feature, app, extension and see how it can improve what you are currently doing or evaluate how it can help your students. If it works continue to use it. If not tr #satchat
A1 If some teachers aren’t using tools they have access to, they either don’t need them or don’t understand them. Invite these teachers into the classrooms of those who use the tools. Use the tools at meetings. Encourage play and experimentation.
#satchat
A1. A suggestion to try 1 feature, app, extension and see how it can improve what you are currently doing or evaluate how it can help your students. If it works continue to use it. If not try something else #satchat
Start small with Google Docs. It's not as scary as you think! Make a sample document and start playing around in it with a colleague or two to get the hang of sharing, comment, and collaboration features. Just like logging in to the same MS Word doc. #satchat
Q1:
What advice can you give educators that have access to G Suite for Education in their classroom, school, or district but are not really using it? #satchat#HackGoogleEDU
A1: If you have access to Google Classroom and aren't using it, you're crazy! Wonderful way to upload docs, HW, brief assessments, and polls. Plus, upload Google Slides and classwork so that students who miss class (FLU!) can see what's been done! #satchat
A1: It is okay to start small and do something simple! Use Classroom to share links, or Docs to get students typing, and go from there. Also, let students teach you! #satchat
A1: Pick one thing to start using in your classroom and work from there. You need to get used to it first before you throw your Ss into it. Ask other Ts who use it to give one of their fav uses. #satchat
A1: If we are serious about providing opportunities that foster collaboration and communication, GSuite provides resources that do just that! The learning modules provided by Google can easily get you started (if you're not sure where to start). #satchat
Take the time to get training or train yourself on Google products! The time it will save you in efficiency will be totally worth it!! #satchat#HackGoogleEdu
A1: Start with one thing at a time. #GAFE can be overwhelming when you first get started. It’s okay to focus your attention on one aspect and keep working at it until you’re comfortable #slowandsteady#satchat
#HackGoogleEdu#satchat A1: Download the google apps to your phone. So easy to work, edit, collaborate, present from mobile device. The big plus is #collaboration
Q1:
What advice can you give educators that have access to G Suite for Education in their classroom, school, or district but are not really using it? #satchat#HackGoogleEDU
A1: Just get in there and play around. If you have a tech integrator in your building ask for guidance. Use the internet to see how other educators are utilizing it. #satchat
A1:that’s why I’m here today. I’m a semi 1:1 chromebook room, but my google knowledge is slim. I am slowly working my way through the classes for google cert. #SatChat
Q1:
What advice can you give educators that have access to G Suite for Education in their classroom, school, or district but are not really using it? #satchat#HackGoogleEDU
Agreed - Google forms make life so much easier for Ts and Ss. I love pulling down the pie chart results with the class when discussing our answers #satchat
A1 ~ That allows for easy collaboration with colleagues and for you to access your information from any machine! You don’t have to worry about logging onto a computer and wondering if you will be able to find your doc that you saved to the server ;)! #satchat
"You cannot break The Google." SO true! I've used this exact same phrase so many times to the point where all of the Google apps installed on my iPhone are in a folder called "The Google." #satchat
A1: Tinker, click around and explore! You can not break The Google. Using the suite with your students will amp up your practice & experience of school for students! #satchat
A1 I would invite the reluctant teacher to observe a colleague, ideally same grade/subject, who is benefitting from GAFE. Hopefully the reluctant T can see how the tools would translate into their own practice #satchat
A1: Start small, take some risks and try, learn from your mistakes and don’t give up, ask a lot of questions, and know we love to share what we know with you. (Break down the silo walls #tlap ) #satchat
A1: Start by creating folders for specific groups that you would like to share. This will help with organization. Teamwork leads to success when learning the ability of Google and trying new things #satchat
A1: start with your goal in mind before using GAFE. Start small and trust the students with a “can do” attitude. Always be willing to take a risk. Yes things will go wrong but I always walked away with some positive results. Build upon your successes #satchat
A1: g Suite allows teachers to attain all levels of meaningful technology integration. Makes collaborating more efficient and adds infinite possibilities to teaching and learning #satchat#GTTribe@GoogleForEdu
A1 You can't really break G Suite. ID a small step: 1 thing to try based on problem you want to solve & you'll be amazed where you go from there. (You can even Google search about the problem for inspiration!) 1/2 #satchat
A1: start by asking yourself why you aren't using it? If it's because of lack of PD, seek out ppl who use it. If the reason is b/c there's not enough time, try to use only one aspect and start on the low end with replacement. #satchat
A1: As with any new tool, my advice would be start somewhere. Dabble. Explore. Approach it with an entrepreneurial mindset and start with the question, how can I use this to help kids learn? #satchat
The advice I'd give is to connect with a colleague as a learner. My role is to connect the dots, bringing people together to "tinker" and to learn from "expert" colleagues. #satchat
Q1:
What advice can you give educators that have access to G Suite for Education in their classroom, school, or district but are not really using it? #satchat#HackGoogleEDU
A1: When learning about #HackGoogleEDU tools it’s important to take risks. When leaders take risks, teachers take risks. When teachers take risks, students take risks https://t.co/CsEYPeaMOP#satchat
A1: Google suite allows students to experience the live digital collaboration/communication that students will have to master for entrance into the future work world. #satchat
A1: Start small. Look for one thing to apply. If it works, continue. If not, move on. There are so many wonderful applications, focus one or two and become a pro. #satchat
A1-2 Empower those in your school that are using an have them share how this is supporting your missing and vision for students learning. Its all about the kiddos! #satchat
A1: User-friendly, comprehensive, lots of implementation support available, helps enhance student learning, great collaboration tools, take it one step at a time...very doable! #satchat
Q1:
What advice can you give educators that have access to G Suite for Education in their classroom, school, or district but are not really using it? #satchat#HackGoogleEDU
I miss my 1:1 Chrome and Classroom more than I miss bread and pasta. #satchat There really is no comparison with the other product, although they are trying.
A1: I've also found that use among teachers has increased, as we are using GSuite as an administrative team to communicate materials and agendas for professional learning (Classroom), meeting agendas (Docs), surveys (Forms), etc. #satchat
Many want to see how #edtech tools impact student learning. Open classroom doors for peer observations and broadcast S work via blog, tweets, faculty meetings. #satchat#collaborativePD
Truth. I'm teaching myself coding formulas in #GoogleSheets and learning crazy complicated spreadsheet algorithms simply by Googling one problem at a time. Learning by doing. It's virtually unbreakable. #satchat
A1 You can't really break G Suite. ID a small step: 1 thing to try based on problem you want to solve & you'll be amazed where you go from there. (You can even Google search about the problem for inspiration!) 1/2 #satchat
A1 Districts & Ts need to know how much easier life will be once they start using G Suite! Talk about streamlining your work. G Suite offers Ss and Ts chances to do some amazing work together! #satchat
Q1:
What advice can you give educators that have access to G Suite for Education in their classroom, school, or district but are not really using it? #satchat#HackGoogleEDU
A1: understand that incorporating G Suite into your instruction isn't always smooth. Go in knowing that roadblocks and challenges are part of authentic problem solving and collaboration #satchat
A1.2 For example, I had an issue w/using scores from a Google Form as formative result, so I went looking for answers. Found tutorial solution via @sylviaduckworth (Thx, Sylvia!) https://t.co/z7uSxMebvq 2/2 #satchat
Agreed! I think it is an easy transition for teachers resistant to start with Google Docs and there are so many things you can do with Google Docs: https://t.co/vaKoG6iCXx#satchat
A1. A problem for those starting is there is SOOOOO MUCH out there in #GAFE that it can be confusing and frustrating. The exciting part is the majority of it is easy to use. That's why it's important to start with one thing in #GAFE to see its ease of use.
#satchat
A1: It looks overwhelming at first but find something that you believe can be useful, invest the time to learn more about it and don't be afraid to experiment with the possibilities. #satchat
A1 Create a Google doc or presentation and invite students to comment. Work on commenting norms together. Encourage collaborative commenting that builds understanding and moves ideas forward. #satchat
A2) Chromebooks allow for an inexpensive web experience where you can have your preferences, apps, and extension created on any browser and the use them on the CB. #Satchat
A2: CBs turns teacher centric classrooms on their head. The T is no longer tethered to the smart board, projector but truly turn into the "Guide on the side" Facilitation becomes easy #satchat#HackGoogleEDU#wo2world
A1: If you have access to Google Classroom and aren't using it, you're crazy! Wonderful way to upload docs, HW, brief assessments, and polls. Plus, upload Google Slides and classwork so that students who miss class (FLU!) can see what's been done! #satchat
YES! It can be totally overwhelming if you try to learn it all at once! Each new things that you try will usually lead you organically into another useful tool to try! #satchat#HackGoogleEdu
A1: It is also okay to ask a friend or colleague for help. Be honest about where you are and where you want to go. I have a colleague who just needs someone to do it with her first. So also offer to help!
Great point, Ss need to learn appropriate collaboration skills. Collaboration is not 1 S doing the work & others copying or signing name to assignment. #satchat
Question #2 now up for conversation.
I think this is an important question for those who use Chromebooks to explain why teachers / administrators can feel comfortable giving up laptops.
#satchat
"When leaders take risks, teachers take risks. When teachers take risks, students take risks" brought that back to fellow Ts and As from your AMLE presentation and they loved it. #satchat
A1: When learning about #HackGoogleEDU tools it’s important to take risks. When leaders take risks, teachers take risks. When teachers take risks, students take risks https://t.co/CsEYPeaMOP#satchat
A2: Ss can access and create more information faster when they have Chromebooks. District/school has to be open to innovative projects though. Shouldn't just be used for testing and flashcard practice #satchat
A1. A problem for those starting is there is SOOOOO MUCH out there in #GAFE that it can be confusing and frustrating. The exciting part is the majority of it is easy to use. That's why it's important to start with one thing in #GAFE to see its ease of use.
#satchat
A2: It's not the device that matters in the student learning experience. It's the activities that the students are required to perform that make the difference. #satchat
#satchat A1. We’re actually a Microsoft district (don’t kick me out of the chat) but we try to incorporate use of the Microsoft suite into our PD to allow Ts to see the benefits first hand!
A2) I love Chromebooks in the classroom; Ss are quickly and easily able access all the tools to create, explore, discover, apply, connect, collaborate, and learn. #satchat
And even if some uses of G Suite is for the bottom of SAMR, it’s a start! I would say you don’t have to jump to redefinition all time, every time. #satchat
A2- we just got a class set of chrome books this year and it's a game changer. While most Ss have computers and wifi at home they all don't, and this helps level out the field. Plus I barely collect any physical papers these days #satchat
A2: It's not the device that matters in the student learning experience. It's the activities that the students are required to perform that make the difference. #satchat
A2 Chromebooks can NOT enhance student learning. Teachers have to design purposeful exchanges (writing, reading, thinking) between peers for student learning to occur (at home or school). #satchat
A1. this is what I do within our district, we have access, but not all use it or use it efficiently. The P puts a weekly update on CR, which helps. Lead PD's, give suggestions, and once in a while email T's for tip. Too many emails, & they ignore/resent. @Robertsjess_1#satchat
Q1:
What advice can you give educators that have access to G Suite for Education in their classroom, school, or district but are not really using it? #satchat#HackGoogleEDU
A2 I admit I was a Chromebook resistor. I liked all the extra stuff I could put on my Windows laptop. Reality is #GAFE has exactly what Ss and Ts need. I've seen it in schools and at home with my kids. Easy, fast, minimal distractions. #Converted#satchat
A2: The chromebook, because of its price point, makes technology available to many more students than in the past. The tool, however, is only as good as what Ss are asked to do with it. #satchat
A2: The Chromebook provides a more affordable way to get devices into the hands of as many students as possible. Ensuring devices as home expands the collaboration beyond the school hours. #satchat
A2 Chromebooks are a boon for my Community Problem Solvers Club. Groups of students collaborate on project tasks, can work from anywhere. I love when they praise each other. :-) #satchat
A2: Chromebooks have been a game changer in the classroom bc they are quick to start up and Ts and Ss can get right to work. Time is everything in the classroom and Chromebooks don’t take away from learning, they support it #satchat@GoogleForEdu
A2 Chrome books are easy to use portable and allow for students to access digital content while in the classroom. This would further support use of gsuites and personalized learning. Digital delivery of content as well as digital S work. #satchat
A2: Chromebooks can enhance student learning by providing vastly more differentiation. But they can also lead to lots of wasted time if the teacher doesn't have a reliable device management system in place. #satchat
LOL chats sometimes feel like that when one way of seeing things is presented. Thanks for sharing your views on another platform. It helps us all make informed decisions. #satchat
A2: #Chromebooks are affordable and give students the opportunity to create, communicate, collaborate, and critically think any where and any time #Satchat#HackGoogleEDU
A2: Chromebooks are both affordable, powerful tools for UDL; particularly in a GAFE environment they allow for access to the content and production resources any student could need #satchat
A2: I am at a 1:1 school with Chromebooks. The Ss are able to connect easier to all of the #GSuiteEDU apps and #gafe tools. They are able to collaborate with peers and Ts easier as well. #satchat
A1) there is a lot out there to enhance the learning environment. Work with your technology specialist to get an item for you to try. Continuous collaboration and feedback will help you to become more comfortable. Once the kinks have been worked out teach it to someone.#satchat
A2: Chromebooks alone won't do a thing, but a teacher with the right mindset, in a one-to-one environment, can be transformative from an instructional standpoint. #satchat
Chromebooks give access to the g suite for learning regardless of location, kids can stay connected to their learning, thier peers, their Ts-everybody gains! #satchat
A2 Chromebooks make it realistic for each S to have a device of their own because of their affordable pricing. Ss having access to the Chromebook provides opportunities to learn no matter where they are! They're also super easy to use! #satchat
A2: The advantages of Chromebooks are too many to list. Each 5th-8th student gets a Chromebook and while great for HW, Forms, Docs, Sheets, and other classroom necessities, we also take time to teach digital citizenship, being nice online, and other helpful life tips #satchat
My experience has been similar, John: problem-solving catnip that keeps thrillingly stretching my own zone of proximal development along with my students -- and even colleague #satchat
A2 Chromebooks can be a cost effective way to help level the playing field in terms of placing powerful collaboration tools in the hands of all students. #satchat
A2: The goal is teach kids skills they will need in the work place. Kids need to see the “value” in collaboration. Collaboration over competition. #Satchat
A2:with my chromebooks I can differentiate content, experiences, delivery and student production. We also collaborate, research, and go global. #satchat
Chromebooks allow us to cheaply and easily access online capabilities and cloud. For schools this is optimal. I want Ts and Ss to be able to use it comfortably not worry about a $2k machine it’s about #access#satchat
A2: Chromebooks can create the opportunity for personalized learning - The key is to make sure that student engagement is HIGH, student's understand how to navigate the device, and feedback is given to the student to reinforce learning goals #satchat
In a non one to one district as a math teacher with the Chromebooks it is really easy to differentiate really quickly. I have a Blendspace prepared for every chapter. I can quickly walk around the room and tell Ss what I need them to go on and its always prepared! #satchat
As a parent of Ss in a one to one district I get to see how they extend their learning beyond the school day because of the Chromebook coming home everyday. #satchat
A2. Schools have been purchasing Chromebooks since 2011 - SEVEN years! Best way to know how learning has been enhanced is from reading narratives from students and teachers during that time period. #satchat
A2 Chromebooks can NOT enhance student learning. Teachers have to design purposeful exchanges (writing, reading, thinking) between peers for student learning to occur (at home or school). #satchat
A2: they empower students by putting the digital world at their fingertips to communicate & collaborate worldwide. Provide opportunities to think critically & creativity through problem solving #satchat
A2: Couple of my Ss got CBs over holidays. It’s allowed their parents to see some of the work we’ve been doing in the class. That’s helped me increase family engagement. #satchat
A2b I also LOVE that my kids can log onto different Chromebooks at school or at home and they have access to exactly the same tools and all their work. "I saved it on a school computer" doesn't exist anymore. #satchat
A2 Chromebooks are amazing tools for our youngest learners- They are fearless & have no problem trying something, crashing & burning, & trying again. They model for me! #satchat
A2 Chromebooks are much less expensive than laptops, which means schools can provide access at a significantly lower budget. Having school-issued tech keeps it from being yet another socioeconomic status indicator.
#satchat
A2: chromebooks shift the focus back to to the students => provides access to information and opportunity to create, communicate, collaborate, and reflect #satchat
Not specifically about the device but more the ability to collaborate and share in ways that extend beyond previous boundaries and provide access to all. #satchat
Q2: OMG LIKE CRAZY! I now give them relevent articles, podcasts, @Flipgrid@quizizz to study. Kids are making music scores, in Science class! It's given me the freedom to teach the way I always wanted to. Now I get to share that with the kids!
#inspireSVCS#satchat@twhit63
A2 ~ With our 1:1 initiative, more Ss have access to technology and the ability to collaborate with one another. Classroom also provides Ss with opportunities to revise and resubmit work based on Ts feedback! #satchat
A2: I think the use of chromebooks has to be part of a larger #edtech conversation in your district. What is the #edtech strategy & purpose and what tools can help us efficiently & effectively achieve this purpose. Often chromebooks fit nicely #satchat
A2: Chromebooks allow for students to go beyond the classroom walls and explore the world around them. Ts that I work with are finding more ways to be innovative with the device. #satchat
A3: I usually focus on features to help teachers save time in the classroom feel comfortable leading any aspect of GSuite. Even if I am not familiar with a specific feature, it is fun to learn with teachers. #SatChat
This is very true as I am learning this year! We are in our first full year of using #Office365. We should develop a cheat sheet to see how they are related! #satchat
Many of the collaborative features of #GSuite are mimicked in #Office365. The tasks and purpose can be accomplished in either platform. It’s not about the tool, it’s what you do with it!
A2 Chromebooks are a low cost solution that allows more students to access Google solutions for education but also do not allow the same opportunities a Mac or PC can provide #satchat
A2 Chromebooks provide equity. They’re inexpensive and the cloud/Web-based setup is seamless in transferring work from class 2 class 2 home. At the ❤️ they offer equity and accessibility. Chromebooks squashes he classic excuses “My work didn’t save!” #satchat
It’s snowing in Saudi Arabia. I’m pretty sure Donald Trump would use this to say there is no global warming as it’s snowing in a desert like country. #satchat
A2: Chromebooks alone won't do a thing, but a teacher with the right mindset, in a one-to-one environment, can be transformative from an instructional standpoint. #satchat
A2 Our campus is a byod school so we see all devices. Ss who have a prof w/Microsoft tendencies find difficulty in using the Chromebook... these answers are helping beef my argument in favor... does it do a file conversion? “Save as...” #satchat
A2 Chromebooks (& similar cloud-based equipment) can lower bar for ed-tech entry. Device need not be that technically robust or over-the-top costly to unlock powerful creativity, collaboration, communication. #satchat
Chrome is sandboxed and updates automatically in the background while you are working. They are easy to manage in terms of standard apps from the admin panel for a class set #satchat
A2: Students feel empowered when their voices are heard. Allow those students to help one another by giving every student an opportunity to speak in a way that’s comfortable for them. #satchat
A3: G Suit apps for mobile device, “Quiz” setting in forms to automate grading, Team Drive for group projects, Google Keep for note-taking, “undo send” in GMail, color code folders in drive, notify via email w/ form submission, TOO MANY!!! #satchat
A2: Giving Ss the opportunity to use tech (other than a phone) at home can help build on the skills they are learning in the classroom and will need in the future. Chromebooks are a low-cost, light-weight, and collaboration-friendly way to provide this opportunity. #satchat
I think we have to have multiple device solutions - so much that kids want to do that demands more than a chromebook .. but they certainly are a solution to getting easy basic tools in a child’s hands
Many of the collaborative features of #GSuite are mimicked in #Office365. The tasks and purpose can be accomplished in either platform. It’s not about the tool, it’s what you do with it!
A3: Love using Google Forms quiz function for automatic grading (of multiple choice qs). Allows for Ss to see their score for instant feedback and teaching moments. #satchat
This is a blog post about one of our PLAYdates. I'm preparing one to focus on Google (classroom, slides, apps). Usually a very popular PD session. https://t.co/t5WpFu7m8U#satchat
A3 (part 1): Where do I begin:
Google Keep for Meeting agendas that download to Docs for the minutes of the meeting. Super efficient. I use every Monday with my leadership team.
#satchat
Newer iPads are easier to manage than mine, iOS 10 allows for Apple Classroom, my set runs iOS 9.? it is a rough ride, but like media production ability of iPads. #satchat
A3: Huge fan of the “Explore Button” in Google Docs => Not only supports the researching of relevant information, but automatically cites sources! #satchat
A3 When small groups collaborate on a shared doc or presentation in our STEAM lab, we have only one chromebook open on the lab table & one student typing at a time as the group discusses. Too many students editing at once gets confusing and frustrating. #satchat
A3: Forms is helpful for receiving feedback, identifying teacher/school needs. Blogger is helpful for communicating with families and staff and allows for showcasing best practices #satchat
A3. There are many tips and tricks out there - how do you share these with educators across your District so they can access them quickly and easily when they need them? #satchat
A3: Using #GoogleForms is the best kept secret of #GAFE. Every paper worksheet you would have otherwise had to hand out can be completed as an online survey, and it auto-collects (and can even auto grade!) results into a spreadsheet. #SatChat
A3: It's nice to schedule assignments to post. I can arrange discussion topics, quizzes, or HW to post at certain points/times throughout the week. Keeps me organized and makes planning a breeze! Just have to remember to tweak if timelines changes! #satchat
A3 I use G forms to collect data, which goes into a G sheet. The autocrat add-on to sheets allows me to merge that data into a G doc. Great time-saver for writing reports, mapping curriculum, and giving feedback.
#satchat
A2: All of these great answers make me wonder: am I the only one with students using devices to look up inappropriate videos, images, songs, and games when the teacher isn't looking? We have no LMS/DMS in place and so there is so much wasted time! #satchat
A3: Keep docs sorted into folders; shared folders is a great way to collaborate on resource collection; install "Save to Drive" & "Save to Classroom" extensions to streamline resource collection! #satchat
A3 @GoogleKeep will be your new bestie!
1- take dictated notes while you are multitasking
2- can color code and prioritize ideas
3- can add collaborators to a note
4- can open in docs to drag and drop text or pictures #satchat
A3: My new favorite is using Google Keep for organizing new articles to share with staff. This tool can be utilize in so many ways. Forms helps me gather information across my district that help make decisions. Classroom helps organizing PD sessions #satchat
A3 As an English teacher and as a writer, I'm a big fan of the editing and suggesting views in docs. This is a great way to support the writing process and makes it very easy for Ss to share with peers for feedback while the T can look in on work in process. #gamechanger#satchat
A3: Team drives help take collaboration to the next level, they offer total access to all members individually and together, how sweet is that? Not to mention a thousand toher perks! #satchat
A3) Using Google Classroom continues to be a game changer for me--from asking questions, ease of exit tickets, assignments to announcements--Ss know that this is where they start their learning journeys each day. #satchat
A3 Google tips — use Slides to set the pace for classroom instruction; embed video timers in slides to play the timer with guiding questions showing. #satchat
Using G Classroom to help organize work from Lit class, especially creative spring boards adapted from @WickedDecent@IntentionBook. What badge would your main character earn? Ss draw, take photo, add to doc and explain their decisions. #satchat#EduIntention
A3 G suite team drives make peer collaboration amazing! You can collaborate across school grade levels seamlessly. Departments can easily have meetings and agenda items all in one place. #satchat
There are so many ways to minimize paper and maximize Admin workflow through Forms with Autocrat add-on. Examples: Ss Discipline Reports, PD Certificates/Plans, Athletics paperwork, Observation/Eval Reports, etc #satchat
A3: So many tips&tricks- 💜 forms for collecting info and gauging audience during PD session 🧡slides for collaborative thinks space #satchat#HackGoogleEDU#Wo2World
Side caveat: I'm also watching Google Classroom fill MS students' inboxes w/deluge of notifications. Teaching how to manage this flood is underrated part of productive, sustainable digital citizenship. #satchat
A3: Oh gosh there are just too many! But I’m going to rally for the often underrated Calendar. It can make planning with others seamless. Say no to the back and forth email chain! #satchat
If Soros is calling Trump a 'Danger to the World' you know Trump is doing his job.
Trump put a cork in Soros open borders invasion.

A3 *Create folders in your drive and mail to help you find things faster. *Use your calendar and sync it with your phone calendar. *Forms allows you to give quick quizzes and it scores them for you and analyzes the results. #satchat
Made one for my grade level to keep sub plans and impt. info, and have it for my subject area as well to share resources more easily. Love the team drives! #satchat
A3 G suite team drives make peer collaboration amazing! You can collaborate across school grade levels seamlessly. Departments can easily have meetings and agenda items all in one place. #satchat
Would love to use Google Forms for that, but since my district does not have a means to have me "lock" them into just that tab, we still use paper quizzes/test. I want to assess knowledge & application, not their ability to research. I have other assessments for that #satchat
A3: Using #GoogleForms is the best kept secret of #GAFE. Every paper worksheet you would have otherwise had to hand out can be completed as an online survey, and it auto-collects (and can even auto grade!) results into a spreadsheet. #SatChat
My elementary school Community Problem Solver students used Forms to get feedback from conference session participants (the team presented at ANJEE!) and to survey their local community about sightings of an invasive plant. #satchat
A3: Forms is helpful for receiving feedback, identifying teacher/school needs. Blogger is helpful for communicating with families and staff and allows for showcasing best practices #satchat
A3: Using the feature in Google Slides that allows students to ask anonymous questions. Ss love it and encourages them to ask questions if they don't feel comfortable. #satchat
A3: Endless. For admin Google Keep to track endless to-do & collaborate across school/district including w admin asst. #GoogleClassroom for faculty and leadership meetings. Shared folders for the million presentations and communications #satchat
A3) Using Google Classroom continues to be a game changer for me--from asking questions, ease of exit tickets, assignments to announcements--Ss know that this is where they start their learning journeys each day. #satchat
If you're not using Google Classroom, Doctopus is fantastic too. Think of it like a digital photocopier: you pass out electronic copies of the same master resource that students can write on and edit to their needs. Push one button for 24/7 access to all students' work! #satchat
Side caveat: I'm also watching Google Classroom fill MS students' inboxes w/deluge of notifications. Teaching how to manage this flood is underrated part of productive, sustainable digital citizenship. #satchat
A4: Extensions enhance the browser experience, add-ons help with tasks in a Gsuite app. My two favorite add-ons are Read and Write for Google and Form Publisher #Satchat
A3: Google Classroom has been a game changer for many teachers. The “Quiz” setting in google forms can be used to help automate grading, Team Drive is incredibly useful for collaboration. #satchat

A3: S's love "live-time feedback." I offered office hours for students working at home and they loved collaborating virtually outside the classroom, exchanging ideas and extending possibilities. #satchat
A course on happiness is the most popular ever at Yale, where a majority of students seek mental health care. Says one, “a lot of us are anxious, stressed, unhappy, numb.” Would your students say something similar?

"Every single person who is working in the school environment needs to understand what toxic stress looks like... . For teachers, it's a completely uphill battle. We all need to be part of the solution." #satchat#EmpathyMatters#SELforAll#SEL
According to Dr. Nadine Burke Harris, "When kids are exposed to very high levels of chronic stress or adversity — or really intense and scary experiences — it actually changes the way their brains and bodies are wired."

A3: Make Templates. Anything you think you might want to use multiple times/ways, make a template & make copies to edit for the diff ways you want to use it. It is so easy so create & organize copies in Drive! Especially useful when sharing resources with others! #satchat
A3. There are many tips and tricks out there - how do you share these with educators across your District so they can access them quickly and easily when they need them? #satchat
A3 My recent GAFE discovery is sharing ONE document with editing rights for all. Class collaboration in 1 file. Sure it’s a bit chaotic, but when control is relinquished, engagement soars. Ss feel in control & it’s worth it #satchat
They don't have a hard drive, so to speak. for installing programs - they do have apps to install which provide web-based creation tools like movie, book, and audio creation. Files can export to drive, share to Classroom or live online. #satchat
A4: Extensions customize/personalize the chrome web browser. I use: LastPass (password management), Evernote Web Clipper, ColorZilla (eyedropper tool to select color), https://t.co/xKpv6vogui url shortener, and Screencastify #satchat
Q Drops Q&A later in night. Blue outline is his response to question above it.. Also note Numbering beside each drop. They do go backwards so be aware of that.
Yay, Autocrat! New Visions CloudLab has saved my tech bacon on numerous occasions. E.G., Before there was Classroom, there was (& still is) Doctopus. https://t.co/tLowmi7BHd#satchat
#HackGoogleEdu#satchat A2: Writing in general and the keyboard have always been blocks for my son. We use voice to text a lot, allows him to dictate thoughts right into google docs. Editing process a lot smoother, more confident with the process. It's been a game changer. 💻 🎤
A3: Big fan of Google Classroom - Easy way for teachers to push out work to students and has the ability to differentiate. Leads to conversation about student work product - Always nice to receive an essay from a student in the building #satchat
A3 All I know, if I have to call out suddenly, Google Classroom has made it extremely simple to provide my students a quality lesson for that day from my home rather than having to run into school or get a colleague to pick it up. #satchat
A3. #satchat I love the collaborative aspects of Microsoft and (dare I say)Google! We use collaborative group PPT’s to jigsaw article key points in our PD. Participants then see how they might use w/ Ss.
A3 Using links on Google slides allows me to use the same slide deck for different classes. I can put slides in for both classes, & then differentiate for each class. #satchat
A3: Plain and simple, whether it be students, teachers, or colleagues, the ability to collaborate on one doc/form/slide:etc., is life-changing! #SatChat
This looks like a great topic going on on #satchat this morning, I'm a parent, the kids live with their Dad and I'm curious to know what they're doing in this part of education.
I like doing this, too. It makes editing and revising easy on both sides, and Ss can just check them off as fixed as they go. #gafe is great for instant feedback. #satchat
Showing Ts how many other apps and extensions can be shared right to Classroom. @screencastify gaining lots of traction across all subject areas.#satchat
A3 Love Google Forms to get feedback from parents and others following important events --- use QR code Flyers --- parents complete brief survey on way to their cars #satchat#hackgoogleedu
A3: Google forms is really powerful and under utilized in terms of gathering data across large building especially when used w form publisher or autocrat saves hours on admin end. Powerful classroom tool as well for assessment #satchat
A4: An extension is a little app added to the Chrome browser that provides additional functionality. An add-on refers to additional programs that can be linked into G Suite apps (Docs, Sheets, etc) that provide additional functionality #satchat
Content is googled. Building a purposeful life.....not so much. #ENDtheTESTINGinsanity Why can’t we just say NO? Seriously. Across our state/country, if we ALL said NO, what could “they” do? It’s time for a new American Revolution. #KidsDeserveIt#satchat
True, if the video is recording a student in front of the room. But they can screencast and record themselves with their dynamic content in the background or record with a phone and upload to a video editor to add enhancements #satchat

Ex-Border Patrol agent, five Laredoans among those suspected of being child predators, records say - Laredo Morning Times. #PedoGateNewshttps://t.co/rQmrbF2mUl
A4: An extension can be accessed in the Chrome Web Store and once enabled can extend the capabilities of your Chrome browser. An add-on can be accessed in a program like Docs or Sheets and can provide added capabilities within that particular program #Satchat#HackGoogleEDU
For home use, I like the Library Extension. Shows you what libraries have a book while you're searching online. I'm guessing Amazon and B&N are not big fans. #satchathttps://t.co/GCkkN8S95Z
A3 I put numbers at the front of the folders I use frequently so they rise to the top of drive’s ABC list. I also use emojis to find files quickly #satchat
@ScottRRocco Google Slides, Forms, Docs, etc. in my Google Classroom have all changed my Classroom for the better. Even for the first day of a new semester my students will be creating a slide which represents who they are. A fantastic alternative to the 1st day. #satchat

A4: Extension is a tool to use on the desktop and an add-on is a tool that can enhance the use of G Suite. Favorite extensions @Screencastify@GoogleKeep Classroom extension is helpful pushing out websites #satchat
Wiltshire Police Chief Mike Veale accused of misconduct. Had previously been criticised over handling of the Late PM Ted Heath's historical child sex abuse allegations. Has accepted job as Cleveland's Police Chief. #Pedogate#PedogateNewshttps://t.co/JFQX5DHP4U
A3 Google Forms with data validation, upload files, go to page based on answer, collect email, and data summary make it gsuites most powerful tool. #satchat
Me waking up early every wknd and craving pancakes. In bed staring at the clock until it hits -> now you can text a friend to grab breakfast bc it's past obnoxiously too early to text zone. 😏
#SaturdayMorning#satchat#breakfast#pancakes
A3: It's nice to schedule assignments to post. I can arrange discussion topics, quizzes, or HW to post at certain points/times throughout the week. Keeps me organized and makes planning a breeze! Just have to remember to tweak if timelines changes! #satchat
A2: The chromebook, because of its price point, makes technology available to many more students than in the past. The tool, however, is only as good as what Ss are asked to do with it. #satchat
A4: Great add-on for #GoogleForms: Form Values (re-use the same drop-down values list into any form). For #GoogleSheets: Yet Another Mail Merge. Auto-send personalized emails to students with their scores and verbal feedback typed directly into any rubric of your choice! #satchat
Hey 👋 #satchat Superheroes!!!! Just wanted to share our latest giveaway...we originally said it would be $300 💵 of EdTech...but we were wrong...

A4: Great add-on for Forms is Choice Eliminator Lite. As the form is completed, options are eliminated! Ex: if the form is used to make appts, once one person chooses an appt time, that option will be eliminated so that others cannot sign up for that time! #satchat
A4: Extensions help the chrome browser become even better. Just came across @InsertLearning, which allows you to insert questions, videos, and notes onto ANY website. #satchat
I love the quote! I think the issue w testing insanity is some educators don't understand why their are different levels of testing. On a district and national level we need to know where our local kids are measuring up. We also need to use the data #satchat
A5: Google Tools allow for a variety of different accommodations to assist students. Features include translation, speech to text and text to speech. Great way to help make learning accessible to ALL Ss #SatChat
A4: for content creation and visible thinking, the Screencastify extension; for streamlining feedback on writing, the CheckMark extension https://t.co/EHRlJjkHv4#satchat
How many districts allow "Open" Google Domains? We cannot share outside of district w/out typing individual emails, kills use of GDrive to store & push out video and podcasts. I went back to @wikispaces for showcasing student work. #satchat
Absolutely Eric! I dont need to track them down & find time to finish in my classroom. Just need to remind them "Complete that paragraph on Google Classroom when you have a chance" #satchat
My fav extensions: Screencastify, Undo closed tabs, Bitmoji, Clipular, Grammarly. I tell my Ss, if u have a pointed issue, most likely there’s an extension to help you! #satchat
A5: Google tools make accessible the sum total of humanity’s knowledge, with that, we ought to be able to find something for every learner to get excited about. Motivation and engagement is key #satchat#HackGoogleEDU
A4- I used the extension floobaroo ( sp?) after turning my google form results into a google sheet. Grading/feedback becomes easy, bye bye scantrons #satchat
I put student names as a choice for a Form rubric. When I assess a student, it eliminates their name so I know who I have and haven’t met with. Love it! #satchat
A4 I love Grammarly! It's an extension that not only checks my spelling but my grammar as well. It's perfect for when I'm not near @CheccaMirags LOL!! #satchat
Oh it does so much more!! You can ask open ended questions, use it to poll students, for digital breakouts, exit tickets, as a choose your own adventure activity... endless possibilities! #satchat
A5 Google is self paced so Ss can go at their own speed and replay, translate, or get help(collaborate) and overcome many of their difficulties, lessening the burden. #satchat

A5 The Voice Typing tool in docs is so helpful for Ss who have great ideas and amazing stories to tell, but struggle with writing or the mechanics of typing. #satchat
If God is calling you forward, to step out in courageous obedience, don’t let the enemy distract you with fear or second-guessing.
Be courageous. Take the step. Live out your faith. Trust God.
Enjoy the journey.
He is faithful.
A3: Needed selections from about 350 students at school where enrichment classes are maxed out at a certain number. Using Google Forms and add-on Choice Eliminator 2 saved much time crunching numbers #GAFE#satchat
I agree! Screencastify is awesome...so easy to create a library of videos that support & enhance differentiated, engaging instruction (& kids can easily create their own videos) #satchat

Showed Keep to my 4ths. Working on research proj. Projects=Work in progress but saw faces light up as they understood Keep. Great tool. Need to learn more b4 mine becomes like inside of my purse. #satchat
A5- so many ways- always have notes/info to access anywhere, collaborate with others even when not together, you can modify forms to retake for practice with immediate feedback, etc #satchat
There is tool, add-on, tip/trick for almost any and every needed accommodation that would enhance the learning experience of students. The power is in using the Google+ communities to connect with others to learn about those tools as needs arise. #satchat
Google has many great tools. But anyone worried about the getting googlified effect? #Satchat#HackGoogleEDU What might they do once they have all that info and data?
Many of our children are hard to deal with. They act tough. They act like they don’t care. The real deal is that many of them are in a lot of pain. Stay encouraged as teachers and know that you are, in many cases, their first responder.
#satchatUK#satchat#SaturdayMotivation
A5: Classroom allows for discrete dissemination of assignments scaffolded for each learner; comments enable targeted convo, tagged directly to the student's work, between learner and coach (T or other S) to address questions or difficulties #satchat

A5- and let's not forget that YouTube is a part of it. You can import the videos on forms - make videos for absent students or for reinforcement and review - take screencasts and throw them up there- #satchat
Absolutely Eric! I dont need to track them down & find time to finish in my classroom. Just need to remind them "Complete that paragraph on Google Classroom when you have a chance" #satchat
For myself I love Screencastify for video making. For students I have them add wevideo when we have the laptop cart because it is a free way to edit videos that looks good and is simple to use. #satchat
A5: I have seen special education teachers push out different passages in Google Classroom to meet the needs of their students, create sorts to compare fact/opinion, and use the ability to highlight text to identify skills used in writing #satchat
Q3 - GAFEdu has to be time efficient for wary teachers to try. pintab,Colorcoding, Drive & gmail organizing, Templates help, directing PD thru GAFEdu. Show Enthusiasm, but don't be annoying about it ;) Those who want to continue learning whill appreciate. @AllenGrable#satchat
A5: You can differentiate an assignment and send it to only certain Ss in Classroom. Ss are all working on the same thing, but at appropriate levels. #satchat
A4: Screencastify is essential for capturing screen vids and #flippedclassroom , an easy to use screen recorder, saves right to your google drive. #hackgoogleedu#satchat
A5: The possibilities are endless! Speech recognition, Texthelp (highlighting skills), MindMeister (converts linear outlines to graphic organizers), Google Read&Write (look into this, it's awesome!) and all the wonderful adaptations of Docs, Slides, & Sheets! #satchat
A5: We have been able to break down the language barrier, give more accessibility to all students, keep kids connected when they are unable to be in the classroom. Next on my list is utilize Google hangouts more for PD #satchat
I'm in the same boat. I know Keep will be a great tool for me, but I hesitate because I think I'll add so many notes that it will become my personal electronic junk drawer. #satchat

A5 GAFE allows Ss 2 discretely have access 2 mods. Ex: W/ the Google Dictionary Ext, Ss can click on any word & the definition will appear w/ the pronunciation 2. Bigger font needed? No prob. Also these mods aren’t teacher applied but Ss can be resourceful on their own #satchat
Our school has already been dubbed the tech school of our island however following the devastation of Hurricane Maria we are at pains to provide 1:1 for our students. Any ideas on how we can source Chromebooks? Used?Gifts? Maria has seriously affected our strides! #satchat
A4. So many ways. Easier to differentiate. Easier to give feedback. Easier for shy students to ask for help. Easier to help students organize. Can help eliminate “forgotten” assignments...#satchat
A5: Google suites offers various non-traditional learning methods as well as multiple ways to produce work, all kids can find a tool that works for them, especially, those who need a variety of accommodations! #satchat
I cannot stress how easy this is to teach students how to use Forms. The joy and excitement they receive over using data based on their own topics, questions, etc is awesome. While I teach public speaking, science teachers have so many options using this as well. #satchat
I didn’t realize the power of Google “Speech to Text” until I was in Grad school and had to write 50 page papers. Who has time to type on a keyboard? I would dictate my papers in the car, while making dinner, or on the run. #satchat
A5: Google Tools allow for a variety of different accommodations to assist students. Features include translation, speech to text and text to speech. Great way to help make learning accessible to ALL Ss #SatChat
Dear Sean Hannity, you're trying to look "butch", but in which branch of the military did you serve your country? None of them? Yeah, I thought so, tough guy. #satchat#SaturdayMorning
Great to allocate someone specific to this role, for teacher-by-teacher differentiation. We've created space and time for this: speed-learning, lunch and learns, round tables, and "sandox" sessions. Teachers have such practical wisdom, even better when it's shared. #satchat
In most G Suite tools, #satchat, consider going down this rabbit hole on a periodic basis to discover new & enhanced functionality:
(Good reminder for me to shed outmoded tools like SiteMaestro! Prune regularly, too.)
A4. I’m using my phone this morning instead of my laptop so I don’t recall the name of the extension that allows you to create text/ writing shortcut keys. When you enter the shortcut keys the text will appear. It is a time saver for those responding to many emails. #satchat
The Kaizena window opens up next to their doc & they can listen as they look at their work. Also you can save lessons & attach them. The video or written lesson opens up beside their work. Genius! #satchat
Google Sites! I use Google Sites for my #gamification HS English classroom to provide all sorts of side quests & enrichment opportunities to help learners with scaffolded / differentiated needs. SUCH AN AMAZING resource. I'll never go back. https://t.co/KlIWh0PuCh#satchat
A5: Voice typing on google docs/slides (speakernotes) Google Classroom-buttons up assignments&keeps assignments organized. Also, Ts can discretely distribute modified versions to students. Differentiation is seamless! #satchat#HackGoogleEdu#wo2world
A5 GAFE allows Ss 2 discretely have access 2 mods. Ex: W/ the Google Dictionary Ext, Ss can click on any word & the definition will appear w/ the pronunciation 2. Bigger font needed? No prob. Also these mods aren’t teacher applied but Ss can be resourceful on their own #satchat
There needs to be a daily routine of Ok, now lets stop and check our email. We got to work hard to show that tech is a Tool not just a toy. We must create habits and teach organization. We all could use a little help at that age making sense of it all. #satchat@A_Dalton13
Good morning all! Sorry to join #satchat late but the flu seems to force one to sleep through alarms! I'm Kate and an early childhood edu senior in SC.
A5: Google tools help students who struggle succeed. For example, the speech to text feature gives students an opportunity to kick start the writing process #Satchat#HackGoogleEDU
A5 Google tools, along w/many others allow Ss who do not like F2F or public speaking to have a voice. Tech has possibility to open opportunities for many is they have access and used properly. If not used properly, it is more of a detriment than a benefit. #satchat
A5b Having the Voice Typing tool right in docs is also a big help. No switching between software. Students can transition back and forth between typing and voice typing, practicing their writing skills while also getting the support they need. #satchat
The NYT "Real Fake Scandal" is supposed to distract from the fact there's no there there. Even Mueller's own investigator said that. There's no collusion. #SaturdayMorning#satchat
A5: The ability to differentiate assignments that students can access on their Chromebooks is a great way to assist students with learning struggles. #satchat
A computer keyboard should never be the barrier to free flowing thoughts. Students who use @Google “Speech to Text” have opportunities to express their ideas faster and more efficiently #SatChat
A5: Using google to be able to differentiate assignments can benefit students with learning difficulties and enriching students at the same time in the same room. #SatChat
A5 Students who process more slowly love that they can review our G slides later because they’re posted on our G site! Allows them to be more fully present in class instead of anxiously copying everything down.
#satchat
A5: endless possibilities. Keep and calendars for organization. Read & write to support LD, read to them & provide supports. Classroom has a lot of great tools built in also so Ts can scaffold #satchat
Kevin HS SS T from Ohio. 1:1 does nothing if teaching pedagogy stays the same. If they are using it to look at PowerPoints it is a waste of $.
#satchat
The #XPLap community is my go-to when I have questions on using sheets for leaderboards, embeddable resources, and front-facing spreadsheets. YouTube is perfect for step-by-step visual tutorials to teach you just about anything you'd ever need to know about #GAFE tools. #satchat
A5. @Google Read&Write levels the playing field for students with special learning needs. All Ss need to be given a platform to be able to show what they know and are able to do. #satchat

Students can use the talk to text feature, access to a wide variety of digital books of interest on their level to read, the folders can assist students with organization, so many things...#satchat
Brilliant! Great way to stay organized! You hit on another, often untapped, way to use forms! So many people make forms for others to fill out in order to gather data, but often making forms for ourselves to fill out can be a quick/easy way to track pretty much anything! #satchat
A6: It's an obvious answer, but go through the Google Certification process. It's relatively quick, easy, and gives you a firm foundation on all things Google. Really helps build confidence in your abilities. Thanks for the fun this morning, friends! #satchat

There are still plenty of adults who could benefit from "this is how you send an email." from using subject lines, to reply/reply all. Not just something kids need to learn. It helps if you show them how to put it on their phone. They'll be more likely to check it. #satchat
