#RuralEdChat is a chat that focuses on the needs of the rural educator. This chat has been revised by Tammy Neil (@MathNeil), John Martin (@edventures) and Natalee Stotz (@nataleestotz).
Aloha #RuralEdChat gang! John from NH getting back from @NHSTE meeting where I think I just got roped into being President-Elect for our state org. Not sure how that happened @StanFreeda?
Greetings #ruraledchat from Cambridge, Massachusetts! If I might make a plug before the conversation kicks off, I'd like to invite you all to join us at Harvard GSE for Rural Education Week next week (April 9-13). Full schedule of panels and talks: https://t.co/RJ0G3MuSTC

#RuralEdChat A1 - Frustration which leads to friction and a lack of momentum. Honoring time of others is important, and using the time they give you wisely is critical to building a stronger learning community.
A1: Colleague issues. Better communication and time spent really interacting vs. breezing past would prevent miscommunication, hurt feelings, etc #RuralEdChat
and yet how often do we actually practice the skills together in a non-pressured way? I think it could be a game-changer to go through exercises around listening and communication as groups. #RuralEdChat
#RuralEdChat - It is something I have to actively work on as I always seem to be in problem solving mode and that isn't always what is being sought during conversation.
A1 and A2 I keep going back to creating and maintaining relationships with coworkers and parents. That way the communication is fluid and natural. You listen more to people you care about. Sorry it is the truth. #RuralEdChat
A2: Sometimes you just have to ask for help. I know personally I want to be superwoman, but sometimes you just have to ask others how you can become better effective. #ruraledchat#conversechat

x100 that awareness can mean the difference between building organizational trust and it's very opposite...I'm thinking demeaning and deflating an edu's sense of purpose and connection? #RuralEdChat
A3: I'm trying to stick to my Google Calendar. Using Gmail lets me automatically add activities and events so I get a reminder. Beyond that, I sometimes have to remind myself to get up and get moving. #RuralEdChat
just having this convo with my co-presenter. we both struggle with a colleague who only communicates to her own benefit. If she doesn't like your answer you are just not understanding her.. #ruraledchat
A3: I'm definitely a better communicator than time manager. But this question makes we really think how I can make the both go hand in hand. #ruraledchat#conversechat
It really helped me figure out where my time drain was during my workday. Not surprisingly, it revolved around trying to be an effective communicator. #RuralEdChat
Come hear me and some other great people talk about education in rural schools at @hgse next Friday! Thanks so much for the invite, @cshartranft! #ruraledchat
#RuralEdChat I am always amazed, and in awe with my coworkers who use google calendar, I have to go old school with a paper and pencil version (bullet journal) It must be the actual writing down the event to make it stick.

Nothing wrong with that. I've started so many bullet journals over the years. It's one of my favorite Christmas break pastimes. However, by Valentines day I'm generally back to the electronic. #RuralEdChat
A4: as a master procrastinator, my time is prioritized by what MUST be done next. My ADD has me prioritize whatever is right in front of me right now. (can you tell I'm up against a deadline?) #ruraledchat
#RuralEdChat A4 - In my world, everyone else's problems are my priority. Does make it hard to gain traction on my own work. Trying this whole school year to accomplish 3 things: an update Responsible Use Expectations guide, a social media policy, and an updated media release.
A4: Deadlines matter, a lot!!! After that it depends on what has my attention. Once read a book about eating the frog first. Here's another take on it. https://t.co/1GfEpTwiHc#RuralEdChat
#RuralEdChat - which begs the question, how can we be more cognizant of and proactive toward, and thereby less reactive when it comes to, *emergencies* which become the important thing overshadowing other work.
