It's crucial to continue to learn new things as technology advances. Support through PD needs to be there as well.
Pedagogy should drive the tool not the other way. Trying just for trying without a reason is not good.

Requiring it is difficult. It's important and necessary for students to also become digitally literate, but there must be buy-in.

Dig lit is a vital component for T's and not enough is done to prep/instruct t's on how to successfully navigate a 21c classroom

the problem with pre-service prep is that by the time they get to use in the real world it is already gone.

I think it's important to teach preservice educators to create a website.
Im a doctor...our tech is tested prior to use. Educ tech usually isnt.
for now ... google is a search engine ... FB/Twitter is Social Media ... Khan Academy is video play back

Depends on depth of use, critical nature--simple tech can be tried on the spot, expensive, "thick" tech can't .
- It doesn't hurt to be aware of them to support student interest.
I think it helps Ts to understand Ss better if have even a basic understanding of S tech
I start kids with iMovie or then they can move to Premiere, FCP, Sony Vegas ... once in they see similarities
It should be more about how it influences our teaching to help students become successful and prepared for the future.

I'm working on some mini tech sessions with my staff. Making my office a cafe-style cozy place for learning.
Technology used correctly has potential.It has brought the world into my school and my small school to the world

Systems are often reluctant to allow T's to use a host of tools for many reasons--that's an obstacle.
Maybe curation skills are the most important. Whatever you need to curate your topic you should be able to do.
We need to model & by providing it to our staff & students.

We have continuing ed requirements, just few that are tech based.

WHATEVER YOU WANT TO DO, technology can help you do it. So, what do you need to do? Grow from there...
And ensure educator PD (personalized learning) is sustained throughout the year.
I follow the "What works for kids" mantra ... if they want to discuss if I am right or wrong I am open to that.

Admins only care about data. We need to juggle developing tech skills through curriculum
I send out one tech tip per week. For my site, I think that is good so that it does not become too much.
Tech "Petting Zoo" at lunch where teachers try new things can be helpful.

Yet I went to great presentation on Minecraft EDU this summer.
PD needs to personalized and engaging. "Sit and get" does not work well. Especially PD at the end of the teaching day.

Year after year I see that my Ss who play Minecraft are more prepared for math learning.
True, they also get first hand training and the best: don't wait for the budget to allow upgrades too often
I see this as an equity issues as those who play Minecraft ahead of those who don't

MOST TECHNOLOGY is not designed specifically for Education...repurposed. Often makes teaching more difficult.
