I think taking anecdotal notes, looking at when a behavior occurs and the antecedent can definitely help reframe how we think. #kinderchat

I think it’s important to try to separate my feelings about behaviour from the behaviour. Helps me to see the “why” #kinderchat

  • MauiMickey Jun 12 @ 9:19 PM EDT
That is definitely an interesting perspective to take. Detachment, knowing background details helps uncover issues. #kinderchat
    In reply to @teachermeg
  • teachermeg Jun 12 @ 9:19 PM EDT
It's important to take step back & look at reasons. Sometimes it’s as simple as a play urge that we as adults don’t understand. #kinderchat

  • teachermeg Jun 12 @ 9:20 PM EDT
Authors talk about behaviors more generally. Behavior can simply be a type of play we don’t get (like toddler class yelling) #kinderchat

A1 I think of research I've read & always marveled at the level of detachment: observe, note but don't get involved #kinderchat
  • CarrieMarshall1 Jun 12 @ 9:21 PM EDT
Exactly. that’s been my challenge this year. I haven’t always been successful either #confessions #kinderchat

I think this makes the author’s point. I hate it (I think because it’s end of day when I’m tired), but I’m not going to stop it. #kinderchat

    In reply to @CarrieMarshall1, @teachermeg, @happycampergirl

  • teachermeg Jun 12 @ 9:29 PM EDT
I do too. But as we don’t have an outdoor playground (only an indoor one), I figure where else are they going to yell? #kinderchat
    In reply to @happycampergirl, @KeeneeLou, @CarrieMarshall1
  • Catharine_Hall Jun 12 @ 9:29 PM EDT
I think that teachers can write off a student as a problem student too quickly without getting to know the background. #Kinderchat
    In reply to @CarrieMarshall1, @teachermeg
  • CarrieMarshall1 Jun 12 @ 9:29 PM EDT
#kinderchat A2 I’d love to look into the power structures of children. Why DO some gravitate to others?

    In reply to @teachermeg, @KeeneeLou, @CarrieMarshall1

A3 I use @FreshGrade to share my students' learning with their parents. #kinderchat
  • CarrieMarshall1 Jun 12 @ 9:44 PM EDT
Reflective and informative. Not too long though, it’s a fine balance. In school parents don’t look for what they would in ECE #kinderchat

Q3: I like to use parent friendly terms and have anecdotal notes to present and discuss together. #kinderchat #edu5213SBU

A3 During PT conferences anecdotal stories gave Ps a big picture of their child's life at school. Gr8 when they shared theirs #kinderchat

This is just one example of how my staff and I document for families. #kinderchat
  • CarrieMarshall1 Jun 12 @ 9:45 PM EDT
When it comes to school, parents want to know more about what they’re learning academically, etc. They miss out on lots, I think #kinderchat

I’ve also started putting (laminated, they are all under 5 years old after all!) photos in binders for kids to look through. #kinderchat

What a great idea, Meg #Kinderchat

A3 I definitely think it is important for families to see how their child interacts with same age peers but it is intimidating. #Kinderchat

Plus, it isn’t in the budget, so it’s an extra that sometimes I can fund and others I can’t. It’s a big diff. from ECE to School #kinderchat

Even in toddler classroom, but have been sharing more stories of relationships && discovery so families are shifting mindset. #kinderchat

A3 B I present information differently if they do not understand how a classroom is managed. A coworker can be more relaxed. #Kinderchat

As we get ready to wrap up the chat, I have a question: Thoughts on the year long book club? Better to read articles instead? #kinderchat
  • Catharine_Hall Jun 12 @ 9:51 PM EDT
I agree. I always have to think about parent friendly terms when speaking with a parent instead of a coworker. #Kinderchat
