Meet and chat with colleagues about Universal Design for Learning (UDL) on Twitter! The best hour of professional learning you'll get in 30 minutes. Held the first and third Wednesdays of the month from 9-9:30PM ET.
#UDLchat starts right now with @BGentilleGreen! Don't forget to put the hashtag in your tweets and check out the preview of tonight's topics for "Ready, Set, Chat!" https://t.co/gvYNumwD9B
Jennifer from sunny Cali! Excited to catch up on my UDL reading and visiting my parents. Although I think my furbaby is more excited about the visit! #udlchat
Good evening #udlchat I’m Ron Rogers from Ohio. I am looking forward to taking my kids to our beautiful Municipal Pool that was Universally Designed so all can enjoy.
Kelley from Columbus, IN and I’m looking forward to our first trip to NYC and doing some reading. Also eating things from our garden like these beauties. #udlchat
#UDLchat Share a resource, ask a question, share a connection or celebrate a success story on a variety of UDL concepts. There are no wrong answers, so chat freely and engage with each other’s ideas!
We’ll see how many we can get through!
EXAMPLE: Topic: Executive Functioning: I might chat: "I found a new app called 2Do! I enter tasks I need to remember and get reminders daily about them. Helps me stay organized so that I can accomplish my "to do list!" #UDLchat
Hi everyone! My name is Shawna. I teach MS Band in MI. I am looking forward to leisurely wake-ups that come with daily snuggles from my 4 beautiful daughters! #UDLchat
A1: a success for me is to have incorporated more choice into PDs, and a variety of options for colleagues to access information....still room to grow, but it’s a start #udlchat
Hi, #udlchat. I'm Rebecca from Nevada. A grad school differentiation class I am taking over the next few weeks will cover UDL. UDL is a new topic for me, so I may just be lurking a lot and learn with all of you tonight.

Joanne Sabo Sped Inclusion Teacher from MA looking forward to learning more about UDL over the summer. Hoping to attend UDL symposium. For fun beach days and relaxing with friends and family. #udlchat
#UDLchat Goal setting. I teach college students and experimented last semester with blank boxes on rubrics so that students could describe goals of their own, too!
A1. Does anyone ask students what grade they want to achieve at the start and then revisit it at the end of the course? Considering this for high ed course #UDLchat
Students have used @Seesaw all year to create digital portfolios and track their progress both within units and over the long term. Using it to take images of process work, finished pieces, share struggles, ask questions, give/get feedback. #UDLchat
Celebrating looking at MAP scores with 6th graders. They set goals, boosted skills with small group instruction and practiced with Khan mappers. LOTS of growth but students were so excited to look at the data and see how much they grew! Data geeks! #udlchat
A1: I’m hoping to do a better job incorporating individual goal setting with my lower level juniors so that they can really see that what we are doing in class matters. Open to ideas for how to actually implement this. #udlchat
#UDLchat@ProfessorDannyS I appreciate your question. And the thinking behind it. I also teach college and sometimes feel like grades get in the way of all real learning, no matter what I do.
A1: My whole school does a great job of helping kids set both short and long term goals, but we def. fall short on helping them self-monitor long term progress. Any suggestions/resources/strategies? #UDLchat
Patty here. Joining in from Houston, TX. Looking forward to a summer visit to Maine. Presenting on UDL tips and tools next week at our regional AT conference.#UDLchat
I have a question. In this context, does authenticity mean the task has a connection to some thing that is important to the student and/or the real world? #udlchat
Students share with each other for the purpose of empowerment of all learners which helps define their voices, share their voices, and respect the diverse voices of others. #udlchat
A1: short term examples demonstrating how goals should connect to assessments can be highly effective during PD. #UDLchat Loui Lord Nelson here from Indy.
A1 My 7th Graders are reviewing music, some of which we played in Oct/Nov. One of my girls came up & told me she got chills from running a piece because they played it so well & it had been SO challenging early in the year. :) Progress realized! #udlchat
Our district has been learning about goal setting and self-regulation. I use a focus card in my classroom to allow students to set goals for themselves daily. They can choose a goal about their participation, neatness, checking over work, etc. #udlchat#sbsd
A2: Sometimes it's hard for me to recruit interest and make certain standards authentic, but never ceases to surprise me what students come up with when we have that type of discussion together. Would love more tips! @KatieNovakUDL has lots of places to start in UDL NOw! #udlchat
A2: https://t.co/WlrghXWQ5c has great activities for math for middle and high school, plus you can follow along with student to see how they're doing! #UDLchat
Q3: Topic: Self-assessment and reflection/Mastery oriented feedback: Share a resource, ask a question, share a connection or celebrate a success story. #UDLchat
A3. I had my #apstudioart students create survival kits for next years class. This led to deep reflection on their learning and they planned how the kits would be rolled out next year to support more. #udlchat

A2: we did a poetry madness thing where students chose poems without restrictions from me. Some poems weren’t great in the depth aspect, but Ss figured that out too. Their interest and ownership of the poems was a highlight. #udlchat
#UDLchat Goal setting. Even when we are clever designers, we must also remember that a "important" curricular goal can seem like a little cloud in the sky to a child living with trauma.
A3 self-assessment and reflection is such an important part of growth as a learner and a teacher. It is critical to reflect on every level IMO. #udlchat
A2: Recruiting interest...go deeper than we often do with basic questions of inquiry...probe beneath the surface to tap at the core of what they themselves might not even recognize yet #UDLchat
A2 Making learning relevant. Provide choice & student input as much as possible (Choosing music, composition options, problem-solving). Making connections w/ my kids. Always encouraging Ss to push just a little more. #udlchat
A3. I’m participating in a project for college faculty re 21st cent T & L for the next 6 weeks. @ontarioextend. It is helping me to reflect on many points of T & L. I’m learning, connecting, and trying new strats & tools #udlchat
A4: Scaffolding for ALL. It is a shift for some to understand that a scaffold for one, works for all and should be given to all, if they want it! It is a work in progress. #udlchat
#UDLchat Datie from Alabama jumping in late. Even though I work 12 months, I'm looking forward to taking time to recalibrate before the next school year.
A4: I like to utilize curated “playlists”, where kids get to choose from a wide variety of resources at varying levels of content difficulty. Everyone gets to engage at the level they need that day/topic, in the format that works best for them. #UDLchat
Interesting… I often think of supports as things one can’t do without (e.g. glasses for reading, closed captions for videos), and scaffolds as things that can go away when one progresses (e.g. changing the reading level, increasing challenge). #UDLchat
Q:All - summer goal to re write all my curriculum into PBL w/UDL and set my students free to work using (tobe determined) electronic planners but definitely Scrum structure #UDLchat
A5: @bcscedtech and now @Brenny_Jarrard are my connection for anything technology. I appreciate how accessible they are as professionals and how dedicated they are to making technology GREAT in our district! #udlchat
A3: Mastery oriented feedback is my FAVE. It makes us focus on (a) the goal, (b) how the learner has moved toward that goal, and (c) what steps the learner can take to be even more in sync w/the goal. And then we communicate that! SO outwardly focused and energizing!!! #UDLchat
Yes it is a struggle especially at the younger grade levels. I try and model this process out loud for Ss to listen and hopefully get ideas for their own reflecting. #udlchat
A5: Using screentcastify to help students who struggle with written or typed respsones they can show and explain without writing getting in the way #udlchat
I was signed up for this and missed it due to unexpected obligations during the time frame . Is it available for later viewing if it was missed today? #udlchat

@min_d_j, @LouiLordNelson, @Ronbrogers, @CAST_UDL
A3: I think the most challenging aspect of giving mastery oriented feedback is picking the most critical next step and not overloading the learner with too much to work on. #udlchat
Vocab: Peardeck. You enter the words, it splits the class into "draw" and "define" teams, then they are randomly partnered to create notecards. Once done, the class picks which ones stay and they can be imported into Quizlet for practice. #udlchat#sofun
What an incredible #UDLchat! Thanks so much to @BGentilleGreen for hosting. Join us at our next live chat, Wednesday June 20 with @DegnerJoni. Keep the conversation going 24/7/365 using the hashtag, and share, share, share! #UDL
Agree! Students always want to know why they are learning "what we teach"....we owe them and ourselves an answer and this creates reflective experiences for all! #UDLchat
A6: Ugh! Learning vocab can be so #basic. Make it engaging with novelty= #extra. Let MS/HS Ss use colored pencils for vocab, let them illustrate vocab on desks with dry erase...get creative! The more novel, the more they will retain! #udlchat
Thank you @BGentilleGreen and #udlchat for letting me lurk and learn with all of you. You have given me some new UDL concepts to think about. I hope you have a great Thursday.
A4 Scaffolding in Band is constant, overlapping, & allows for Ss to keep moving forward in their playing/understanding. It's review, reminders about previous content, moving towards more independence every day in class. Concepts from 6th Gr still relevant in 8th-12th. #udlchat
#udlchat@R_CILR Not sure if your course is teacher ed course, but if so, fyi-- I'll be facilitating a conversation at the summer symposium about UDL and the pre-service educator.
Just sharing an activity we did today in 8th. Ss chose a fave tune, chose a rhythm 'instrument' & were working on composing 32 measures of their own rhythmic flare. Watching them experiment, apply what they've learned over 3 yrs, & the engagement was awesome. #UDLchat
