John from Washington DC. High school instructional coach and eleventh grade English teacher at @OConnellHS. Feeling happy exhausted as we celebrate the start of the Thanksgiving break! #XPlap
A1: Making it accessible is always my first goal. Adding visual can activate prior knowledge before they answer a question or aide in information anchored with an image or color #XPLAP
A1 - I've been putting a GIF of the villain from our game on all of my digital handouts and remind the students that Supreme Overlord Soved is watching... #XPLAP
A1: Nothing wrong with having them imagine a bit. TALK IT UP pre handout. Let the imagine the journey first. Nothing more powerful than the human mind! #xplap
A1 font, format, and function for the docs, a pleasing color and font type with the format being kid friendly and welcoming and the function of the docs being different with each unit but similar with structure to build scaffolding #XPLAP
A1. Color and icons, courtesy of the @nounproject. Visual displays spark curiosity and excitement! Clear and easy to read icon-driven UI turn tired handouts into interactive dashboards. #XPlap
They are so much fun! Can't get enough! Did you know you can add bitmoji pals in text messages too on iphone...just a fun a little thing I just discovered! #xplap
A1: I don't really do that to any worksheets but maybe I should should now? Instead my wife and I just had a whole discussion of how I could put little images of myself in random places on my game website - great way to hide secret side quests. So that's good! #XPLAP

A1: I also try to be consistent. I have the same intro slides at the beginning of the hour all quarter. I also try to use the same fonts on most of the assignments in a unit. #xplap
A2 I have a timeline that runs the entire perimeter of my classroom. From 1750 to 2010. There is a break caused by the only window at exactly 1877 (when S1 ends). It is great for pointing out flow of concepts! #XPLAP
A2: Asked for student feedback. With their suggestions we rearranged furniture, purchased comfortable seating and created different area for students to work. #xplap
A1: I like to choose a font that's a little different than the standard Times/Arial, but still very normal looking. Spacing is also super important as is using boxes and shading to emphasize certain things - kind of how they do on restaurant menus. #XPLAP
A2: So important! I talk a lot about it in #MLmagical! The use of color can make a big difference in how a room feels! I loved having my coffee bar to help the space feel more inviting. For some kids it's the only place that feels like home, so make them feel welcome. #xplap
A2 I have a legacy wall this year, thanks for the great idea @mrmatera . I also have a public leaderboard in my room for my game. I would like to add more bits and pieces here and there, but am still looking for ideas/time. #XPLAP
A2 I have flexible seating in my room as well as tables of different heights for sitting, standing, and floor. Still would like to get more game atmosphere into my classroom. #XPLAP
A2: I painted one wall a fun blue, I made a Legacy Wall that I have a youtube video about here: https://t.co/cZ0ntnyTgI Students loved these changes... #XPLAP
A2 seating assignments change constantly for different purposes labs, think pair shares and other Kagan strategies. Going to try the legacy wall after the break thanks for the idea @mrmatera#XPLAP
Hi, 7th and 8th grade ELA teacher in Alabama here. #XPLAP Glad to be celebrating Thanksgiving this week with some much needed time off. Glad to be here even if I’m a bit late!
A1: I’ve been adding “rough draft” templates for things like “Lab Reports” that block out boxes for the students to add illustrations or comics that explain, etc. Small blocked empty spaces may not be what you meant, but they’re surprisingly inviting & nonthreatening. #XPLAP
A2- I think the biggest change that I am looking into is changing up some of my walls to include a legacy wall! I start3d one but I really need to expand it and think about what I should put on it #xplap#legacywall
A2 We arranged the room to look like the cabin of an airplane and then simulated a crash landing on an island for the intro to our @Minecraft summer school course. Good times! #XPLAP
A2. These days I’m a floating teacher without a classroom of my own. But at my previous school, we turned A Christmas Carol into a winter wonderland, and transformed a ho-hum study of George Orwell into an all-out communist barnyard takeover! #XPlap
A2 Oh! I have also created a "Hall of Heroes". Students that earn Rank 1 can make their own Superhero Logo. It is a couple minutes into this youtube VLOG. #XPLAPhttps://t.co/CKgcSvUbG1
A2: I have player avatars that go all the way across the top of my back whiteboard. Students are proud of the avatars and I'll often add XP directly to them if I don't have time to add get to my computer. Visitors are always curious about the avatars. #xplap
I added tons of "greenery" this year and tried to style things as if it were my own home - lots of neutral tones and light blues. I also have tried to arrange things in a cozy way with different areas for students to work depending on their needs. #xplap
A1 I like white space, so I try not to use TOO many graphics on my handouts. I love using different colors to organize google docs and provide scaffolding. Bitmojis are always fun though! #XPLAP
A3 I really like https://t.co/6HXGb5f4Q5. Allows me to create transparencies. Also a LOT of options. Can add frames, add effects, create gifs... It is a rabbit hole! #XPLAP
A2: So far we've transformed the room into an airplane for a flight to Tibet and Advanced Base Camp on Mt. Everest. I also love my chalkboard cabinets. #xplap
A2: We’ve gotten a bit of press lately for our school transformation @ParksideJrHigh My coworker @slytherintomath and I turned our hallway into Hogwarts. #XPLAP
A3 I don't really have a go-to for this. It depends what I'm after. Google slides is a good all around tool. MTGCardsmith for Items. Lots of good photo apps for memes, filters, and effects like aviary, photofox, and waterlogue. Paper app is nice. #XPLAP

A3: I’m just going to be completely honest here & admit I love @TpTdotcom for cool Bulletin Board ideas or amazing fonts. (Please don’t judge🤷🏼♀️.) #XPLAP
Thanks! One of my students showed me that and now I have students do their own time lapse videos for different projects they are working on. Last week I had kids create time lapse videos of them creating stop motion videos. It was cool to have the combination of videos. #xplap
A3: Primarily I use Google Slides, but I'll also go to Adobe Spark at times depending on what I'm wanting to do. I've gotta say I'm a big fan of markers too though. #xplap
A3 Adobe Illustrator for creating logos or vector graphics if I need to be able to resize them. Adobe Spark, Canva or Piktochart for easy posters and other visuals. #XPLAP
A3- I have tried a few programs like Canva, google slides, and publisher for posters and other class decor. For my class items I have a magic the gathering card creator program that I can insert images into...I have also looked at adobe photoshop but layering is tough #xplap
A3 I love #adobespark for visuals! It’s easy enough for students to use too. #Typorama is another good one. It’s a fun app with a ton of options. #xplap
A2: My ambition is to create a space with a #Montessori & #Farmhouse style. Real wood, neutral colors, & natural light in order to create a balance with all of the modern tech that we also use in the same space. #plants#space My ideas on Pinterest:
