Lora Marie from nj teaching middle school #CrockettArt and our last day with kids in JUNE 22 - does NOT feel like it’s time to wind down yet!#k12ArtChat
Exchanging gifts. What an amazing venue @columbusmuseum to showcase creative thinking. Vulnerability, connection, bravery, support. The foundation for learning today. @mattdematteis#k12artchat
I'm Bill from near Atlanta and I teach at Osborne High School. Yesterday was our last day. Next year I will be teaching at Garrett Middle School #k12artchat
A1 it feels too fresh to accurately reflect. My favorite always seems to be the most recent, new lesson I tried. A few weeks ago I taught kids to design stencils then screen printed t-shirts. That was intense (did it with the whole school) but pretty rad #k12artchat
A1 favorite lesson was our #TrompeLoeil lesson with 8th gr-personal objects, attention to detail, color theory. I hadnt done the lesson in a few years and it was fun to bring it back #k12ArtChat
A1: I don’t get to teach Ss but I designed our last exhibit to show off student portfolios teachers will drop off the exhibit next week - can’t wait to see how it turns out #K12ArtChat
A2: that’s the same for me every year- weaving. It is my least favorite and I find it the hardest to teach. I need a good lesson because I always feel like I’m just teaching an exercise to gain the skill with no real purpose beyond that #k12artchat
#K12ArtChat A2...I tried a new line project with 2nd gr and it did not go as I expected. Looking for some new project to intro line usage for next year.
#k12artchat A1...fav lesson was 1st gr photo of playground equipment that made letters of their name! Used Drawing Pad app to import pics and create their artwork. Fun!
A2, my least favorite was optical Illusions with 1st graders. I make it very simple. This group was just a hard group & simply would not listen despite my multiple recaps. We suffered through & they liked the results, but I honestly don’t think the got it. #k12ArtChat
A2: 7th grade Van Gogh project, not enough selfies. 8th grade clay canteen/ vases. I am thinking animal shape vases/ containers for next year. Some students inspired the idea. #K12ArtChat
A3: I just keep the lessons going for the VA Comp class and experiment on doing new lessons. I have the advance classes design their own lessons that I call, “Do You” Here's an example of one of their pieces #k12artchat
A2 not because of the project, but the materials made execution difficult & not as cool as I’d hoped. Shared #jeanshin#everydaymonuments w 7th gr, had students repurpose trophies using plaster gauze... not quite the results I’d hoped for but great thinking from Ss #k12ArtChat
A2: I don’t have a least fav lesson, but am thinking of redeveloping my 7th grade curriculum because it seems to be missing the pizazz my 6th and 8th can find even though they have my best lessons/units... #K12artchat
A1 One of my favorite projects this year was designing the flag for @NAEA representing NY state & @GO_NYSATA- it was great attending the conference in Seattle & seeing it there hanging in the exhibition hall! #k12artchat
A2- a 5th grade atmosphericperspective activity- 5th grade- teacher fail on materials and scale, I didn’t adapt and modify enough/at all... #K12ArtChat
A1- Fav. Projects: The Clay Olympics (events: wheel height, most wedged clay, etc); National Handwriting Day (taking 20 art students to teach 90+ 4th graders how to use the dip pen/ ink); Little Free Library (building/designing/painting & placing around our county) #k12artchat
A3, Next week we have two days. I plan on making sketchbook that the kids can take home to draw in & encourage them to bring back when school starts. I’ll also stress nature art for those lacking art materials #k12ArtChat
A3 we do a mural in the last month of school w 8th gr, 7th gr are busy w altered books (old text books!) and 6th gr is working collaboratively on a factory design inspired by #Charlieandthechocolatefactory - then we watch #BobRoss on the half days! #k12ArtChat
A4: I’m always motivated and enjoy being around students. Every day I have fun working with them. Being able to change jobs next year will motivate me more - I always wanted to go back to the middle school level #k12artchat
A3 I keep students motivated at the end of the year by experimenting with new materials and exciting ideas for projects-this week we are #3Dprinting famous artwork, drawing with #robots & creating/coding original video games! #k12artchat
A3: You have lessons to help keep them engaged! #K12ArtChat My Kinders - doing some cave paintings & using @strawbees, my 1st doing some light painting! #K12ArtChat
A3: This year I won a grant for 15 @bloxelsbuilder sets and the kids LOVED coming to art to be game designers for the last couple week of school. #K12ArtChat
A4 #k12artchat can I say I stay motivated thinking about what fabulous things we’ll continue next year. Also knowing my Ss enrolled for advanced art next year. Sad to see some 8th Ss leave.
#K12ArtChat A3...try to keep the artwork exciting to help them want to finish it. Finished weaving with my 4th gr this week and they still wanted to do more. Next year I am starting it earlier to give more time. Here is an example. Pouch w flap & button.
A4, lots of PD because art PD is fun. Henderson State University provides quality week long professional development. I’m taking art history, ceramics & jewelry making! #k12ArtChat
A4 #K12ArtChat The cool weather always helps.
Had furnace on Monday
Turned Air Conditioning on today
WIsconsin.....
Ss stay more focused
First day I did not wear or take jacket to school
A5: My “Do You” individual contracts where students design their own lesson worked for HS students during the difficult altered test schedules. I normally have VA Comp do Folk Art II, but this semester I experimented with a printmaking lesson & 2 clay lessons #k12artchat
A1- A short video of One of the dedication poem at one of our Little Free Library Locations, on May 3rd. Collaboration for me this year reached an all time high, as my classes and I worked with over 15 different teachers, as well as our district maintenance department #K12ArtChat
A4: I stay motived by doing things that are really meaningful! Like creating some art for Santa Fe High school & the many other schools effected by violence! #K12ArtChat
A4. I stay motivated when summers closing in with #art! I start transitioning from teacher to artist, it’s rejuvenating! I’ve been working on a whole series of new work, some of which opens in a show this weekend! #k12artchat
A5 collaborative things for the middle school kids - usually something they leave behind for the school. For the kids who are just done, they can take on a simple job and still be involved. #k12ArtChat
A5, Normally it is an art free-for-all collage fest. We try to use up as much leftover junk as we can. All of my kids absolutely love the freedom given to make something from unusual materials. Plus, everybody else enjoys to runway show! #k12ArtChat
Greetings! Breanne Kanak. Pk12 art and design in rural northern Wisconsin. Our last day with students is next Thursday and everyone is climbing the walls. #k12artchat
A1- Another short video of our May 3rd Little Free Library Dedications. Having students be a part of a real life project where they Bri g literacy to underserved areas of our community not only changed Their lives, but it changed mine as well. #K12ArtChat
A5 We collaborate to create a thematic #sketchbook every year with AP art & the #Art Honor Society for @sketchbkproject- creating a book together that tours around North America is a great way to close out the year! #k12artchat
A Bonus, I have Leadership Academy, Henderson State University Summer Art Pd, & How to Flip the Art Classroom. I actually love my Pd choices this year!!! #k12ArtChat
A2 #k12ArtChat
Not being told I would not be in my artroom this year
Came back in August everything was in piles in the temporary artroom while remodeling took place
Now have to pack up but can't move into finished room until fall
A2- I don’t have a least favorite Art Project from the year. I put everything into my students projects, with the intent of having Challenging and highly creative end results #K12ArtChat
Bonus: I’m currently writing the 2nd grade curriculum for Georgia’s new Visual Arts Standards and presenting one of the lessons @HighMuseumofArt on June 4th for the GA Art Teachers Symposium #K12ArtChat
A3- I keep students motivated by having Myself yo be an active participant within the projects! If they see My interest high, then they too keep their interest high! #K12ArtChat
Bonus: Yes! Education closet is happening this summer. I am teaching Middle School summer Art program & might try to do some Design Thinking presentations! #K12ArtChat
A6 sometimes... there’s usually a few kids who want to help so I take full advantage of their fondness for organizing. Things feel extra messy this year so I may enlist more student helpers! #k12artchat
RT: I will be at the NEA Minneapolis thus June as part of the Michigan delegation. I plan to paint & I am reading Teaching 2030 as part of an E Board book club #k12artchat
A2: Last favorite lesson... hmm. Probably today. Totally cookie cutter, “event art”, and dictated by someone else. Bleh. Good results. Boring process. But sometimes you have to go with the flow. #k12artchat
A6: Everybody cleans up at the end of the year and if they do a good job we have class parties – this year all 4 of my classes had hot dogs, chips, and drinks last Friday. I like to have the room cleaned and prepared for the next year before I leave for the summer #k12artchat
A3: this is my challenge right now. Keeping kids on task when there are fieldtripsanddrillsandawardceremoniesandgraduationanddramaand.... hi. #k12artchat
Q6: Always! I put shaving cream on the tables and we write answers and draw in it. It then cleans my tables... They also pack things up and organize it all. I do nothing. #K12ArtChat
A6: I have started sending some of my kids back to their classroom when their tables are clean. Then I walk the rest back down. (Just to keep them on point. #K12ArtChat
A4- How I stay motivated when summer is right around the corner is to think about the Goals that I set for the classroom such as our 3 year pugmill/ recycled clay goal. Even though tomorrow is the Last Day of School, WE WILL PUG 1,000 lbs. Right now we’re at 978 lbs. #K12ArtChat
A6: my classes were so big and come until the very last day so it seemed tricky to have them help and clean. A few testers, sorters, and cleaners made the process smoother though! #K12artchat
A3: but really. Giving them more choice. Reminding them of our shared responsibilities in the art room. More structure with young students. Reviewing rules and procedures. High school and middle school is craaazy enough without the littles running rampant! #k12artchat
A5- My last day, go to ‘ideas’ are typically to have a discussion about Our Year in Art! I love talking with Each and Every Student in class, right then and there, amongst their classmates with encouragemen, praise and words of wisdom. Students love this 😁#K12ArtChat
A4: Motivation is huge for me right now. And structure. There is not a lot of the latter, but the former is just staying on target and organized and cleaning my room because cleaning caaalllmms meeeee #k12artchat
A6- when it comes to cleaning up the Art Classroom at the end of the year, some do it for extra credit, while others do it just to help out. Either way, they all knock it out and do a great job 😁#K12ArtChat
A6 students are responsible or artwork take downs, folders, and tables. Food bribery has always worked wonders with my middle schoolers for the really tough cleanup jobs 😂. The tables are spotless and carved phallic graffiti sanded down. #k12artchat
Q5: not really! I need some mote! Though I guess I have been doing screen printing at the end of the year for the past two years... the kids love it! And it’s a process they never forget. #k12artchat
