-
A0: Robert Guzman Tech TOSA I would have to say Phillie for ISTE 2015
-
A0: Chad, tech TOSA, gotta 2nd and say ISTE Philly was off the hizzy
-
Washington DC. USHMM Conference. Win a scholarship all expense paid. POWERFUL!
-
-
A0: Hi. Tom Ashley Tech Coach TOSA . My most amazing PD: Tie between at Philly & in DC .
-
hate it when my tweets dangle!!
-
I'm Kathy From upland , one amazing venue was a on the USSHornet in July of 2014
-
-
-
-
Q1:Name a conference you attended that made a positive impression. What made it so good?
-
teacher English iste in Phili.
-
A0: Judy Lane, English T- went to Cue Last year and looking forward to next week--Rockstar La Jolla was bomb too
-
I also was a Siemans Discovery Fellow, went to Discovery main office for A Week of PD . SILVER SPRING MD and Washington DC
-
A1: I would have to say black label at Carson last fall, the peeps there were full of energy
-
Seems like ISTE Phillie 2015 was a huge fan favorite
-
A1: Conference was so good because of the positive people I got to hang with
-
A1: CUE Rock Star Black Label was very informative. Coaches teaching coaches.
-
A1 Getting to tour permanent exhibit at USHMM with only 20 other teachers in DC a conference I'll never forget.
-
A1:The Seattle ACCT conference in 2013. Bill Gates in keynote told institutions to lead tech or other will make decisions for you.
-
gafe in San Diego was good. Like shorter sessions. Things that i can use tomorrow. Approachable presenters
-
A1: EdCamp Perris was awesome although it was an unconference. Nothing like teachers helping teachers in authentic ways
-
. I agree. That was a great PD!
-
Q1b: Think about a conference you attended that left a negative impression and why was it so bad?
-
-
Those are the best since you apply it right away to your classes
-
Q1b: Conferences you hated and why...
-
A1B: I did an AVID one and it was bad, they didnt want to use technology for any of their stuff
-
1b at times the really techy conferences make it hard to apply info to English. Sometimes forgotten subj in stem world
-
A1b: Not the worst, but he first CUE national conference in Palm Springs I went to had a complete wifi meltdown. Bummer.
-
Not going to CATE anymore. Outdated strategies. Very little new to learn 🙁
-
Bring your hot spot this year
-
A1b: I don't think I've been to a bad EdTech conference but I have been to many bad sessions where the presenter wasn't prepared.
-
Q1b: wasn't thrilled with Tech for Schools Summit - Riverside - too much vendor focused
-
been there. A lot of fighting back on tech use
-
Q2: Do you have a ritual prior to attending conferences?
-
-
They need to embrace it and mix it up with their stuff, its all about the kids
-
yeah I don't get AVID's refusal to update for technology
-
I think my friend had done this too. Sounds like it was awesome.
-
A conference that left me feeling frustrated was the last Ca science Ts con I attended. There was not enough good new stuff.
-
A2: I get my comp and phone charged up, water bottle and sunglasses
-
A2: I overpack my backpack with every type of cord I think I'll need. I usually don't need 95% of them but they are my comfort.
-
A2 Start with open mind then see what happens. I also like to go alone. Friends are distracting.
-
A2: Study maps of the place I'm going to. I hate being lost!
-
ritual - read as much literature about what is offered. Plan and then understand that my plan will be trashed once I get there
-
A2: I also like to have my conference registration all cued up on my email.
-
-
my wife thought the same thing
-
I had to run to target at . Sweaty and gross but I had my dongle.
-
A2: Check out sched, look up presenters, keynotes, talk all the way in the van
-
We should buy extra dongles and sell them at conferences
-
A0: Jed - math/tech geek
A1: Tie CMC South /
IMO best value Math Conf's ever.
The people I met,friends I made = awesome.
-
Should have asked me. I probably had what you needed. Need an HDMI cord? I got that too.
-
-
Q2b: How do you communicate with people in your PLN while attending conferences?
-
A1b: when it's all hype and little substance. If it's a bad session I know how to walk out and find something better.
-
-
Sweaty, gross, dongle: unfortunate words that showed up in the same sentence! :o) https://t.co/cEQqhqhhyo
-
-
I had to run to target at . Sweaty and gross but I had my dongle.
-
Devil's advocate: if it ain't broke...
(I'm still on same page as y'all though)
-
-
the best thing for communication at a conference
-
That's my 12-year old sense of humor shining through!
-
A2B:I use twitter and slack, tweets for my outside PUHSD peeps and Slack for my PUHSD peeps
-
A2: Yelp the local spots. Purposely schedule meetup time before arrival.
-
-
A2b: Besides yelling "Hey, I gotta extra seat right here," I also use a custom Slack channel with .
-
Any Yelp recs for this CUE conference?
-
A2b No one does this better than and her PLN selfies!!
-
I prefer the first option
-
2b, I Twitter stock the presenters and communicate when needed on all platforms: Twitter, slack, email, doc, voice, carrierpigeon
-
Q3: What are some topics that create excitement for you at Edtech conferences. Why do they stir these feelings in you?
-
A2b: close circles: voxer and text
general chat: twitter
-
-
A1. Veronica, loved ISTE, sessions for every level & lots of networking opportunities
-
A3: Topics about computer science and makerspaces. Not enough people in our country are talking about them so it's nice to see.
-
My 12-year old inside of me is giggling hysterically!
-
A3: I look for science and critical thinking for topics that rev me up. Also anything free
-
-
Too overwhelmed at . Would have to go 2nd time to enjoy it
-
A3: I'm all over the place on this. Love sessions where I learn how Ss can reach a wider audience & philosophical sessions too.
-
A1.b Nuggets of ideas can be found in any conference through networking, even if the sessions don't offer a variety
-
#3 I like things that teach me how to make what I already do easier and I love going to things that are out in left field nvr kno
-
I am going to quote on this "substance"
-
A3 English suffers at conferences. Why I prefer
-
A3: I've been liking sessions on video creation and curation lately It "stirs those feelings" deep down inside! ;o)
-
A3: I like to hear about new things I can try and not all English stuff, but I'm hoping there will be some bloggers at CUE too
-
#3 cont. always try tongi to English teacher presenters. Add them to my pln for future collab
-
I just helped my counselor with some screen casts and used youtube vid editor, Cool
-
Q3b: Is there an individual that you regularly go and seek while attending these conferences?
-
-
A2. Before a conference I always note my plan B and C session option, just in-case plan A doesn't meet my needs
-
that was ugly spelling to go not tongi.
-
A3b Names don't mean much. Don't like repetition. Try new regularly.
-
A3B: I don't necessarily seek individuals as more the topic that drives my interest. But it doesn't hurt if it's a high profile.
-
A3b: I usually seek out They are usually on the know.
-
good to have a plan B and C fer sure
-
-
a3b when no topic grabs me for a session, then I look at presenter.
-
Any Final Thougts on attending Edtech conferences
-
A3b: Not any more. Been disappointed by favorites. Ditching them this year - several have been "mailing it in."
-
-
FT: Topics that interest me are more important than hearing some name try to impress me. I do it for what is best for Ss
-
FT: Looking forward to CUE in Palm Springs this week!
-
FT: To quote my favorite band: "Whatever you do, take care of your shoes."
-
Join every Mon @ 7:30pm PST. Next week's topic:What do you do after a conference?
-
final thoughts....it's all about what you learn and who you meet outside of the sessions more than in the sessions
-
FT Would like conf organizers to better vet presenters. Perhaps video instead of just text for descriptions
-
A3: classic from +
& start learning.
Great conversations at the core of what it's all about.
-
Thanks for joining us tonight for the pre Edtech Conference chat, hope to see everyone at CUE later this week
