Thank you for visiting #ksedchat. We welcome all educators to our chat that runs Mondays at 8 p.m. Central. Though many of our educators have their homes in Kansas, all teachers are welcome to pop in and join in on the learning.

A1: I told myself I’m going to manage my time better. When I’m at school, I’m there to work and utilize each moment. Reading Unshakeable had some great insights on how to stay focused. I feel just as productive leaving at 4:30 as I did leaving at 6! #ksedchat
  • SJNeill13 Nov 19 @ 9:09 PM EST
A1: a goal of mine was to help my students to become purpose-driven writers. Teaching them to ask “why” more often. We must have a reason for using the words and organization that we do. #ksedchat
  • Swayne_LeadUp Nov 19 @ 9:09 PM EST
A1: I had a goal to read in every K-8 classroom this fall semester. I made it to 60% thus far, I don’t know that I’ll make it #ksedchat
  • themusicweaver Nov 19 @ 9:10 PM EST
Thanks for joining us this evening, Sam! I kinda like those odd numbers "too?" A weird possible juxtaposition... #ksedchat #ksmathed

Jeremy, I have also went to more flexible seating in my classroom and have loved the effect it has on my Ss. Kagan is absolutely awesome by the way. #ksedchat #ksmathed

  • PreK33 Nov 19 @ 9:16 PM EST
A1: To learn all of the ins and outs of the meshing of PreK and Head Start. It's been a struggle. So many hoops and regulations! #ksedchat

  • mrs_lagree Nov 19 @ 9:17 PM EST
A1: My goal this year was to make the use of technology in the classroom purposeful. Not a replacement for me or pen and paper. #ksedchat #KSMathEd
  • jcoswald Nov 19 @ 9:17 PM EST
A2 when my Ss repeatedly state that lab experiences are fun and they apply learning to work force examples I know my goal is progressing #ksedchat
  • themusicweaver Nov 19 @ 9:17 PM EST
Kris, we are glad you are with us tonight. I enjoyed having the opportunity to meet you #ecet2ks recently. #ksedchat #ksmathed

A2. My progress is measured by how much I am able to empower our teachers to risk new learning strategies and lead PD, connect w/ parents on social issues of kids and have our students model kindness and empathy. We are not there YET but we are moving the needle. #ksedchat
  • SJNeill13 Nov 19 @ 9:19 PM EST
A2: I try to make sure that I use multiple drafts and collective writing on a shared Google doc to drive /purpose communication about writing. I really believe that kids write silently too often. We have to think it out loud sometimes. #ksedchat
  • 8to3withMrsV Nov 19 @ 9:19 PM EST
A2: I feel like we are making progress. At the beginning of the year my Ss weren’t sure what to think, but now they are so invested in our mindfulness time, and remind me of I get too busy! #ksedchat
  • Swayne_LeadUp Nov 19 @ 9:19 PM EST
A2: only goal I’ve bet had: To make a difference. Progressing? I pray that I lead with humility, with joy, with relationships @ the core. I always say ask students, staff & parents; they know better than I. #ksedchat
  • clegleiter Nov 19 @ 9:20 PM EST
A2. These are some pics of student centered instruction, ways to recognize student kindness and hacking PD. #ksedchat
  • themusicweaver Nov 19 @ 9:20 PM EST
Yes, the power of "connections" can literally change the trajectory of Ss lives. I love how you are seeking to empower your educators, giving them the chance to lead PD. #ksedchat #ksmathed

It's time for our third question, which happens to be one of my favorite numbers. Was that an "odd" statement??? ..#ksedchat #KSMathEd
  • mrs_lagree Nov 19 @ 9:22 PM EST
A2: my students know if we are working on the computers they are still using pen and paper to do the computations. Our mathia (online practice) has improved drastically. Focused notes and pen and paper must be out or I won't stop to help #ksedchat #KSMathEd
  • themusicweaver Nov 19 @ 9:22 PM EST
Humility and joy are a few of the rarely spoken of secret ingredients to success. #ksedchat #ksmathed

  • jeremyholliday Nov 19 @ 9:23 PM EST
A2: I got some great ideas for flexible seating from @HendershotDavid. I also have implemented a few Kagan structures, I need to keep working at being intentional using them. Last, but not least, I got rid of my clip up chart which has been good. #ksedchat
  • PreK33 Nov 19 @ 9:23 PM EST
A2: I'd like to think so! New district for me. My aides (2) are provided by Head Start, so they've had a learning curve, as well. I'm not really good at "that's the way it's always been done." If it's not regulated, I do things MY way! #ksedchat
    In reply to @themusicweaver
  • clegleiter Nov 19 @ 9:23 PM EST
A3. Student tracking their own progress and setting goals is critical; our kids set goals around MAP testing and Naviance. #ksedchat
  • Swayne_LeadUp Nov 19 @ 9:24 PM EST
A3: Well my Ss are staff & goals are posted! No ifs, ands or but’s about it- SHARE your goals & dreams so the Ss do too. If we aren’t dreaming & doing, we aren’t teaching, leading or loving! #ksedchat
  • HendershotDavid Nov 19 @ 9:25 PM EST
Glad to hear it. Someone is being stubborn with bedtime. #ksedchat

A3 after every assessment Ss complete a reflection slip including study times and habits and how to improve, Ss may also retake assessments at any time to show improvement #ksedchat
  • themusicweaver Nov 19 @ 9:26 PM EST
This is a good question, @Willmdunn , I am curious to see our results on this one. #ksedchat #KSMathEd
  • themusicweaver Nov 19 @ 9:26 PM EST
The purpose of assessment is improvement. I love how you incorporate reflection in your classroom and allow your Ss to be responsible for their growth as well. #ksedchat #ksmathed

  • AngSuperPowers Nov 19 @ 9:27 PM EST
A3. I do goal setting with choice reading and progress on ACT improvement, two very different goal areas. The first is about developing lifelong reading habits and is completely based on student choice. The latter is more guided with quarterly check ins. #ksedchat
  • HendershotDavid Nov 19 @ 9:27 PM EST
A3: Jumping in late. We set personal, social and academic goals. I help set WIGs (wildly important goals) for academics. They choose the topic I tell them what we can measure to see it. #ksedchat @TheLeaderinMe

A3: I love this question because I don’t talk enough about setting goals. You can bet this will be something I take some time to talk about more though. Thanks for including this question! #ksedchat
  • mrs_lagree Nov 19 @ 9:28 PM EST
A3: I chunked our workspaces for online. Ss know where they need to be based off our mathia board in class. They also get a report. On daily assessments they track % and if they did optional hw. #ksedchat #KSMathEd
  • Swayne_LeadUp Nov 19 @ 9:29 PM EST
A4: ABSOLUTELY! Goals stay the same but action plans are meant to adapt, adjust & move! If Ss/ Ts are adapting their skills and moving up & their learning is too. Grades should reflect learning NOT the system! #ksedchat
  • clegleiter Nov 19 @ 9:29 PM EST
I would say “yes” as far as kids adjusting goals. My belief is “be firm in your principles but flexible in your practices.” #ksedchat
  • AngSuperPowers Nov 19 @ 9:29 PM EST
A4. If students can't modify goals, it reduces their ownership! So, yes, I encourage them to modify their goals based on various factors. #ksedchat
  • themusicweaver Nov 19 @ 9:30 PM EST
My "tallies" are coming in quickly...It's been a wonderful evening of deep reflection. Our students/communities are so well-served by all of our @ksdehq educators. Here is question number five. #ksedchat #KsMathEd
  • jcoswald Nov 19 @ 9:30 PM EST
A4 YES! Growth mindset if anyone accomplished one goal it’s time to pick another to improve if the goal is not reached it can be changed to target something easier for success and change for more challenges #ksedchat
  • themusicweaver Nov 19 @ 9:30 PM EST
Transparency of assessment. Love the communication aspect that you have embedded in your classroom expectations. #ksedchat #ksmathed

  • HendershotDavid Nov 19 @ 9:34 PM EST
A5: a new goal is getting more teachers engaged in district with tech. #ksedchat
  • jcoswald Nov 19 @ 9:35 PM EST
A5 after reading some of the other goals I am going to collect more data and evaluate the results #ksedchat
  • jeremyholliday Nov 19 @ 9:35 PM EST
A4: I believe in goals being able to be modified. I think that’s a huge part of growth mindset, and I personally wouldn’t want to have my own goals set in stone. #ksedchat
  • PreK33 Nov 19 @ 9:35 PM EST
A5: My main goal is to do what has made me a successful educator for the past 34 years, and learn and implement Head Start regulations into the things I've done to build relationships and teach my kids. #ksedchat
    In reply to @themusicweaver, @ksdehq
  • AngSuperPowers Nov 19 @ 9:36 PM EST
A5. My overall goal is to keep learning and trying new things! "Never get comfortable" is my mantra! #ksedchat
  • mrs_lagree Nov 19 @ 9:36 PM EST
A4: Ss are allowed to make corrections on tests. They state what went wrong in their opinion, how to fix it, and then rework. They only get full points back if they do all the above. Mastery happens when they get it not when the test is done. #ksedchat
  • CaseyWright02 Nov 19 @ 9:38 PM EST
A1: A goal I've set for myself this year is to complete 2 of the 4 components of national board certification. #ksedchat #ksmathed
  • jeremyholliday Nov 19 @ 9:41 PM EST
A5: My biggest takeaway from this chat was the importance of setting goals. As an adult, I think about goals that I want to have for my year/month/week/day, it’s a valuable life skill for students to begin to understand how to do. #ksedchat
  • MissBush12 Nov 19 @ 9:41 PM EST
Happy faces of some of my “building” engineers! Their creativity might just take them places in the architecture world!! P.S. Have I mentioned how much I LOVE our Structures blocks?! #STEM #Engineering #Science #Math #ksedchat #educhat #tlap #bereal #kidsdeserveit
  • CaseyWright02 Nov 19 @ 9:43 PM EST
A2: As part of the national certification process in my area, writing is a big focus: writing with intention and purpose. I have seen HUGE growth in my student's writing as I've been reflecting more on my own practices and implementing new methods. #ksedchat #ksmathed
  • jcoswald Nov 19 @ 9:43 PM EST
Thanks @themusicweaver for moderating tonight #ksedchat now counting down until next week
  • mrs_lagree Nov 19 @ 9:47 PM EST
A5: 13% left on the phone. Eek. New goal meet new teachers on Twitter because I'm just sure we can all offer each other something awesome! #ksedchat #KSMathEd
  • CaseyWright02 Nov 19 @ 9:48 PM EST
A3: I utilize #growthmindset as part of the goal setting process. We meet weekly to conference and we work together to set goals for success. A big part of that process is having the students reflect on their progress. #ksedchat #ksmathed
  • CaseyWright02 Nov 19 @ 9:52 PM EST
A4: I always want my students to strive for success. Part of that process is having them monitor their growth. If they haven't mastered a concept, I present multiple opportunities for them to work towards that goal. #ksedchat #ksmathed
