Thank you for visiting #ksedchat. We welcome all educators to our chat that runs Mondays at 8 p.m. Central. Though many of our educators have their homes in Kansas, all teachers are welcome to pop in and join in on the learning.
A1. I wanted to challenge myself to think outside the box - innovate and try new approaches to connect with kids, staff and parents. Overall it has gone well. #ksedchat
Good evening, everyone! It's time that we introduce ourselves to each other. I am serving as the moderator tonight due to my friend's @Willmdunn absence. We miss you, brother :) #ksedchat#KSMathEd
A1: I told myself I’m going to manage my time better. When I’m at school, I’m there to work and utilize each moment. Reading Unshakeable had some great insights on how to stay focused. I feel just as productive leaving at 4:30 as I did leaving at 6! #ksedchat
A1: a goal of mine was to help my students to become purpose-driven writers. Teaching them to ask “why” more often. We must have a reason for using the words and organization that we do. #ksedchat

Jeremy, I have also went to more flexible seating in my classroom and have loved the effect it has on my Ss. Kagan is absolutely awesome by the way. #ksedchat#ksmathed
A1: my goal was to incorporate more mindfulness, and I would say we are doing pretty good st they! My kids love it, and I love how responsive they are to it! #ksedchat
A2. My progress is measured by how much I am able to empower our teachers to risk new learning strategies and lead PD, connect w/ parents on social issues of kids and have our students model kindness and empathy. We are not there YET but we are moving the needle. #ksedchat
A2: I try to make sure that I use multiple drafts and collective writing on a shared Google doc to drive /purpose communication about writing. I really believe that kids write silently too often. We have to think it out loud sometimes. #ksedchat
A2: I feel like we are making progress. At the beginning of the year my Ss weren’t sure what to think, but now they are so invested in our mindfulness time, and remind me of I get too busy! #ksedchat
A2: only goal I’ve bet had: To make a difference. Progressing? I pray that I lead with humility, with joy, with relationships @ the core. I always say ask students, staff & parents; they know better than I. #ksedchat
Yes, the power of "connections" can literally change the trajectory of Ss lives. I love how you are seeking to empower your educators, giving them the chance to lead PD. #ksedchat#ksmathed

A2: my students know if we are working on the computers they are still using pen and paper to do the computations. Our mathia (online practice) has improved drastically. Focused notes and pen and paper must be out or I won't stop to help #ksedchat#KSMathEd

A2: I got some great ideas for flexible seating from @HendershotDavid. I also have implemented a few Kagan structures, I need to keep working at being intentional using them. Last, but not least, I got rid of my clip up chart which has been good. #ksedchat
A2: I'd like to think so! New district for me. My aides (2) are provided by Head Start, so they've had a learning curve, as well. I'm not really good at "that's the way it's always been done." If it's not regulated, I do things MY way! #ksedchat
A3: Well my Ss are staff & goals are posted! No ifs, ands or but’s about it- SHARE your goals & dreams so the Ss do too. If we aren’t dreaming & doing, we aren’t teaching, leading or loving! #ksedchat
A3 after every assessment Ss complete a reflection slip including study times and habits and how to improve, Ss may also retake assessments at any time to show improvement #ksedchat
The purpose of assessment is improvement. I love how you incorporate reflection in your classroom and allow your Ss to be responsible for their growth as well. #ksedchat#ksmathed

A3. I do goal setting with choice reading and progress on ACT improvement, two very different goal areas. The first is about developing lifelong reading habits and is completely based on student choice. The latter is more guided with quarterly check ins. #ksedchat
A3: Jumping in late. We set personal, social and academic goals. I help set WIGs (wildly important goals) for academics. They choose the topic I tell them what we can measure to see it. #ksedchat@TheLeaderinMe
A3: I love this question because I don’t talk enough about setting goals. You can bet this will be something I take some time to talk about more though. Thanks for including this question! #ksedchat
A3: I chunked our workspaces for online. Ss know where they need to be based off our mathia board in class. They also get a report. On daily assessments they track % and if they did optional hw. #ksedchat#KSMathEd
A4: ABSOLUTELY! Goals stay the same but action plans are meant to adapt, adjust & move! If Ss/ Ts are adapting their skills and moving up & their learning is too. Grades should reflect learning NOT the system! #ksedchat
My "tallies" are coming in quickly...It's been a wonderful evening of deep reflection. Our students/communities are so well-served by all of our @ksdehq educators. Here is question number five. #ksedchat#KsMathEd
A4 YES! Growth mindset if anyone accomplished one goal it’s time to pick another to improve if the goal is not reached it can be changed to target something easier for success and change for more challenges #ksedchat

A3:With my little people,I feel that it's all about exposure, especially with my Head Start & At-Risk kiddos. There are so many experience they don't have the chance to participate in. Yesterday,we threw leaves in the air& watched the wind catch them. They had so much fun! #ksedchat

A5: #FailForawrd! I love my goals this year, but I always keep adding to the list of things we “just gotta do!” One: Instagram book study this spring. #ksedchat

A4: I believe in goals being able to be modified. I think that’s a huge part of growth mindset, and I personally wouldn’t want to have my own goals set in stone. #ksedchat
A5: My main goal is to do what has made me a successful educator for the past 34 years, and learn and implement Head Start regulations into the things I've done to build relationships and teach my kids. #ksedchat
A4: Ss are allowed to make corrections on tests. They state what went wrong in their opinion, how to fix it, and then rework. They only get full points back if they do all the above. Mastery happens when they get it not when the test is done. #ksedchat
A5: My biggest takeaway from this chat was the importance of setting goals. As an adult, I think about goals that I want to have for my year/month/week/day, it’s a valuable life skill for students to begin to understand how to do. #ksedchat
A2: As part of the national certification process in my area, writing is a big focus: writing with intention and purpose. I have seen HUGE growth in my student's writing as I've been reflecting more on my own practices and implementing new methods. #ksedchat#ksmathed
A5: 13% left on the phone. Eek. New goal meet new teachers on Twitter because I'm just sure we can all offer each other something awesome! #ksedchat#KSMathEd
A3: I utilize #growthmindset as part of the goal setting process. We meet weekly to conference and we work together to set goals for success. A big part of that process is having the students reflect on their progress. #ksedchat#ksmathed
A4: I always want my students to strive for success. Part of that process is having them monitor their growth. If they haven't mastered a concept, I present multiple opportunities for them to work towards that goal. #ksedchat#ksmathed
A5: My new goal after this chat is to continue to look for ways to connect with this PLC - I'm inspired reading everyone's responses to these questions! Thank you for such a great chat! #ksedchat#ksmathed
We were inspired by you as well @CaseyWright02 We look forward to having you join us again next Monday evening at 8 p.m. CT for more #ksedchat goodness. Also please feel free to visit our friends at #ksmathed as well. There are some amazing educators throughout @ksdehq
