#BadgeChat was founded in December, 2014 by a group of educators who are passionate about credentialing learning and achieving. While there are thousands of us around the globe issuing badges to learners, there was not yet a regular twitter chat for those of us in the K-12 space to gather for learning and sharing about badging. After reaching out to leaders in the field (like the good folks at Mozilla and The Badge Alliance) for their thoughts, #BadgeChat was born.
A1: I'm a member of several professional orgs for educators as well as volunteer organizations. Badges are getting started with some, like these from @actflhttps://t.co/4txrkwirZD#badgechat
A1 Canadian Association for Prior Learning And Assessment (CAPLA) issues badges for PD. People take workshops then complete reflective questionnaires to earn badges. Badges contain links to the completed questionnaires in the Evidence field. #BadgeChat
#badgechat Ya know, badges are as much a visual cue of competency as recognized by the org as they are source of re-engagement for a learner/community leader.
A2: Love the idea of issuing Badges with awards...for example, imagine if member org recognizes Educator of the Year and issued credential with evidence attached that includes artifacts provided during selection process. #badgechat
Here are my #MIEExpert badges. I also have a #MinecraftEdu Global Mentor badge. There are also Minecraft Certified Educator and Minecraft Certified Trainer #badgechat

Community service is a great one to include! So many people volunteer for their member orgs but unless you're on the board it can be pretty thankless and very under-recognized. Badging the service notices, names and credentials it #badgechat
A2 Don't hand 'em out like Crackerjacks, make them a real award. Or an achievable, but not trivial level of membership. Think about how the "social life" of your badges can reflect and enhance the social learning & development in your association. #SocialCurrency#BadgeChat
A3: This question rhymes with what @supervxn asked. I think one key consideration is around creating CURRENCY for members. For example, conference Badge that credentials CEU hours that can be submitted for re-licensure #badgechat

Hello #Badgechat community! Kim from the Badgr team joining and jumping right in with A3: Orgs can create value by making them memorable - employing good badge designs, engaging the membership, and making it “special”
To me, it sounds like you're combining to types of rewards: Access rewards (such as privileges and stuff other people don't have) and badges. I always looked at them separately. Nice! #badgechat
OOOO, really dig this idea. Don't limit ourselves to "Meaningful" Badges; leave room for "Memorable" Badges (which may feed into meaning). Love it! #badgechat

A4: Just bc we build it, doesn't mean they will come. Having a Communication Plan is a must!!! At the least, include mentions of it in email/newsletter blasts, have online explanation and create an "on-ramp" to make this new concept accessible for members #badgechat
One could combine the badge with an out of the ordinary activity or award - adding in the emotional connection starts it off on a positive note. #BadgeChat
A4 Talk 'em up and walk the talk! Mention them on your website, in your newsletter, at conferences, design swag based on them, aligned to themes that are important to your association. And earn some yourself, why doncha? #BadgeChat

YES!!! And don't forget to link in your email signature:)
And that piece about earning them yourself is one where I've had to check myself multiple times...can't just talk about it for others! #badgechat
