#musedchat Archive
Each Monday evening at 8PM EST, music teachers get together and share ideas about important topics within music education. It’s a great chance to interact directly with educators from all over the world and to get new tips and tricks to help you succeed in the classroom. The entire #musedchat discussion is organized and moderated by Joe Guarr.

Hi All! Amy from MI joining a little late. Middle school band.
Good to see you Amy, welcome
Kids could record & share straight from a phone, or use Vocaroo and submit a link. Super easy.
On an iPhone w/ Classroom app, they can share a recording to GC the same way you'd send it as an email
Student-owned devices or school? Had issues with file compatibility with some android devices when we tried it.
Student owned for the most part. Had 1 school iPad available for those that needed it.
What do you do when 2 kids share same birthday?
There had been some great GC sessions the past couple years at MMC by , so I decided to dive in.
I have used class set with good success - 10 iPads and we share https://t.co/oH22ajrA0R

A1 Giving awards for doing a community service performance rather than just outstanding musicianship.
Loved using GC this year! Looking forward to a much smoother roll out for next year though.
Cool idea! I give kids a pencil on their birthday. Oh, and staff too. Everyone looks forward to it.
This is the kind of stuff I need to do more of. Want to do better at building relationships w/ Ss.
Q2: What are some the biggest student-driven successes you've seen in your class this year?
A1: Having a student conduct at our concert on Thursday (while I play) and trying genius hour for 1st time when done w/ concerts.
A2 right now we are making a 'music video' for 5th gr promo. The kids are really being creative.
Newly-music literate Jr. arranging a cappella 4 his peers. From the heart. Evidence of his love & commitment 2 the art

A2: illiterate student became music literate and likes analyzing form
A2: Lots of little ones. ie: Ss working in small groups. The ah-ha for S who switched from trumpet to baritone.
Can you elaborate more on the project? Sounds interesting
That sounds awesome! Did the Ss pick projects or you? I'd love to hear more!
Rain right? What a great piece. We performed it last year.

Q3: Anything you're itching to try differently next year?
always wanted to try full band PBL I'd like to hear more too
Q3: Anything new that you're itching to try out next year?
It is super easy to print labels with name and bday, stick on pencil when date approaches. Very little time.
A3: SOOO much! Want to redo grading system (go more towards SB), roll out GC and other tech smoother, find more efficient systems
Does your school use a 4pt grading scale?
A3: Looking forward to planning a large composition project for my band kids. Will culminate in a performance on a concert
A3: we did a piano recital for the 1st time. Hoping to do 2 next year!
Yes. Need to work SB into traditional system. Got some good ideas from at on Saturday.
We're moving to a 4pt scale next year, I think. Would love to hear about what's worked for you
That's awesome! How did the students enjoy the experience?
Do you mean 4 pt as in A, B, C, etc. or a 1 thru 4 scale?
1-4. Currently using A-E and total points. I think the transition will be good
Gotcha. I misunderstood when you first asked. We're on A-E, but I want to work SB into the current system.
Playing tests this yr were all standards-based rubrics on a 4pt scale. Just gotta get everything else to translate
A3: b/c/o have agreed on pitch reading, rhythm reading and vocab common assessments
Tried to do that this year w/ playing tests, but need to do better w/ consistent rubric. Lots of retooling this summer.
Thanks for chatting tonight, everybody! Transcripts up soon.
do you have the rubric for share. Love rubrics
