Welcome to our #CreateEdu chat! This week we are chatting about Students as Content Creators with @mr_isaacs! Introduce yourself and where you're from.
Hey everyone! I'm excited to be hosting #createedu tonight. Steve from NJ - I teach game design and development to middle schoolers and next year also high school students so content creation by students is definitely my jam!
NJ - YAY! Love having preservice teachers in the chats #stuvoice - twitter chats didn't exist until i was already 20 years into the career - so awesome to start developing your #PLN and #personalizedlearning now :) #createEDU
I created and teach a low level college course that introduces live streaming. We cover the industry, current creators, as well as learn technical and business elements of streaming media. We focus on Twitch mainly. #CreateEdu
A1: Funny I should ask...I teach game design and development so students are almost always in the role of designer / content creator. They make games, but beyond that write design documents, storyboard, write game reviews, etc. - and all for an authentic audience #createEDU
A1 Currently have a station in my art class where Ss create a logo for our school. Either a sport, club, after school activity. Sometimes I have the sponsors of them meet w/ the student designer #CreateEdu
YES to digital storytelling - my 7th grade cycle project is a unit in digital storytelling and game design where students reimagine a fairy tale, folk tale, or fable and create a story / game in #minecraftedu or @gamestarmechhttps://t.co/S6Cr3ViAUa#createedu
A1: great question. I have a student that is truly an amazing artist, but struggles with speaking, writing etc. I utilize his artist skills to show his creative side and be in that role of creator. I would love to learn how else to utilize his artist skills. #createedu
A1: My students are currently creating AR content to go with their 3d printing project in history ...meet Dave ( my students nickname ) he is a scan of a 2000 year plus Aztec statue. They are currently developing his AR history @SparkPenketh :) #CreateEdu
I hope everyone in the chat can take a moment to participate in this #globaled project I am demonstrating with @metaverseapp as a sample project students could see as something they could do - https://t.co/9HbaWQzACl#createedu will take but a moment - download @metaverseapp too
Did someone design Dave? so cool - I am doing a lot with content creation for #AR and #VR - very exciting to put kids in the space where they can create for cutting edge technology #ARVRinEDU#createedu
A2
- I ❤️ @AdobeSpark & all the social media platforms to create content
- I ❤️ bring learning to the public space so that Ss canearn from each other
- my undergraduate students have exchanged vidoes w/ my 7 years old son b/c they are both using @AdobeSpark#CreateEdu
A2: becoming increasingly fond of @metaverseapp - students can create a variety of interactive content (stories, games, apps, etc) - so many interesting tools they can use within the app to make their content original https://t.co/9HbaWQzACl#createedu
A2b
- B/c all the tools are public, my Ss are able to connect and collaborate with Ss from other states in the US & other countries
- My own son is starting a new project, #WhatIsSchool. We are Interviewing 1k kids from the 🌏 to do that & use @AdobeSpark to share.
#CreateEdu
A2 - big fan of @snapguide which allows students to create step by step tutorials with screenshots and directions - great exercise for kids to give back to the learning community while building communication skills #createeduhttps://t.co/Q2hg5OEd61
A2: it’s got to have collaboration - because it’s so great to create together. Do I live @Soundtrap and WeVideo. Also G Suite - easily adapts to a creative framework #CreateEdu
A3:Puts ownership on the Ss to not only be learners, but distributors of content and teach others. Also instantly moves their learning experience to "M" on the SAMR model #createedu
There's a little game called #minecraft that is without a doubt my favorite tool for content creation! So scalable and really has no limits - kids amaze me EVERY DAY with what they can do #minecraftedu@playcraftlearn#createedu
A3
- humans connect with each other via stories
- when Ss create content, they can inspire others & when they know they can inspire others, it inspires them to create more and to be better
- then you are creating a movement
#CreateEdu

A3 students who create content learn to build a brand. So many elements are associated with marketing strategies and business. Plus they can be creative and travel a road that is most comfortable for them. Builds confidence. #createEDU
A3: Understanding and participating in the iterative design process is huge - also collaboration, communication, understanding their audience, problem solving, and on and on. #createedu
A:1 #createedu i’ve currently been having some great success having students create for each other. For example, I have students create logos and branding w/ Adobe CC for other students who are developing video games in Unity.
A3: let’s see - so many. Student agency. Thinking about and creating for an audience —> Empathy.
Plus if a learning is having fun in the process - it’s just better in Every way!
It’s personal! Kids have a voice and a story. Learning is a story.

Q4: What project ideas do you have for putting students in the role of creator? Do you have existing lessons or projects that you might revamp? New ideas to explore to empower students as creators? #CreateEdu

Wow!!!!! Love this! During my recent Interview with Seth Godin, he said that school should teach kids to solve interesting problems!
I love problem solving

@mr_isaacs Jess from Long Island, NY checking in super late thanks to a sleepy 6 year old. I teach a 6th grade Genius-Hour inspired course to help students find their passions. #CreateEdu
Hey Jess! There's nothing i love more than teachers that focus on helping kids find their passion!!!!! I feel like that's my goal / mission as an educator #passionEDU#createedu - thank you for being here.
A4: I have the good fortune of working w/ a great group of young men who are completing a sports analytics project with a pro basketball team - creation of #dataviz, scouting reports, and additional team needs with collected data #createEDU
Good evening #createEDU Nick Swan, #edtech coach from Hampton, VA. Looking to get info about organizing extracurricular esports league for competition-ready players.
A4: just use anybold lesson or project already planned - all you need to do is give them a creative option for how they will respond, submit, document, etc
#CreateEdu
A4: For me the question for any new project is how will it put students in the role of creator. My recent focus (or one of...) is content creation for #XR (#VR#AR#MR) - it's all about creating a learning space that fosters creation and seeing what the kids can do #createedu
Q4: What project ideas do you have for putting students in the role of creator? Do you have existing lessons or projects that you might revamp? New ideas to explore to empower students as creators? #CreateEdu
A4: Both! Sometime, existing lessons are used and sometimes new projects to ignite creativity in students. Creativity is one of the important 21st Century Learning Skills. #CreateEdu@mr_isaacs
