Good morning, ! Ben from Murphy, NC.
Good morning, ! Ben from Murphy, NC.

Cathy Koos here! Good morning from Melbourne, Florida.
Good Morning! Amy from MD here.
Good morning happy Friday. Currently struggling with mixed messages at school. Trying to do what's best for kids
Good morning. Happy to today. It's going to be a great day!
Happy Friday!
Last school day in Mass before spring break!
Brian, HS principal
How do we handle leadership situations that run contrary to what we believe is best for kids?
Happy Friday peeps! Welcome to the weekend! David MS Principal form VA here.
I've been trying to get more Ts to use Twitter to start/grow their PLN
Good morning Happy Friday everyone!
Dave from MA - Good Morning. I made it on time this morning
How do we best effect and maintain a positive school culture?
Problem: Being a competency based school working in a system that is still seat time focused, the year-end is always a crunch for Ss
Good morning, ! Bill, up early and writing from a diner in Western Mass.
I've been struggling with this one. Our Ts seem to be extremely shy when it comes to twitter.
Hlp: check ; demo a w storify; show PLN build
I'm struggling w/ trying 2 balance 2 jobs-transitioning into Coaching position but am still in classroom https://t.co/CUVa0qcDXe
G'morning! Today's topic - What's a big question you've been grappling with, or a problem you've been trying to solve, recently?
How to "have lots of grades in the grade book" (traditional grading) while being innovative with instruction
Me too. Twitter has been transformational for me. I want to help others see its power to help kids. https://t.co/xnaPZEqb39
I've been trying to get more Ts to use Twitter to start/grow their PLN
Great that you are becoming a Coach.
Making the most of shrinking resources while still trying to do what is best for the school as a whole
How do we get teachers more training, more pay, and more time to plan?
How do I keep Ss motivated as spring fever hits?
Hi there friends... G'day (good evening) from down under https://t.co/7I9yo9aVSb
Hi friends! Connie from NY checking in on this day!
G'morning family! Happy Friday - trying to pick which big topic I actually grapple w the the most...
Biggest issue is dealing with the extreme # of absence with Ss, class roster so inconsistent day to day makes continuity challenging
...including institutionalized cultures that run counter to what we know is best for Ss.
End of the year struggle for me is Ss who are struggling to pass for the year. We share the struggle.
Negotiate + present evidence. If you feel you can't be be effective in position leave before it gets ugly.
How do I stay focused on the good despite the pressure of the end of the year to do list?
Same here. I started a book group. Moving to twitter to answer questions next week.
I'm really excited and love what I am doing but it's hard right now to juggle both. Next yr I'll be coach only!!
Q we have been kicking around: How do we provide over air Internet access to Ss homes, extending our school network?
Modeling is important, I've been trying to focus on positive word choices - now Ts are doing it too https://t.co/m09eJggkh7
How do we best effect and maintain a positive school culture?
the issue is when we dont agree on what's best for kids. I suspect they think that their ideas are more in line w data
Good morning and happy Friday!!!
How do you convince someone that they need PD when they don't think so?
I'm struggling to keep balanced with the end of the year fast approaching and the implications of standardized testing on Ss and Ts.
Struggle with time: Not enough of it. Many people deservingly want it. from me. Frustration results.
Grrrrrr.
That's a great question! Sorry you're asking it though!
Hi Brett!! Did I hear somewhere that you're going to in June?
so great. Twitter has been transformational as far as this current year in my education.
Cool. School lucky to have you.
Yes. I know Ts at my school struggle with that too. Any ideas?
That's one I'm always thinking about. What's working for you?
Big question, how do I balance my energies? https://t.co/WoPMc62HlZ
G'morning! Today's topic - What's a big question you've been grappling with, or a problem you've been trying to solve, recently?
Carefully, as to not throw anyone under bus. Express as 'temporary' & impermanent. Be solutions-oriented. https://t.co/ldDj4Oelkb
How do we handle leadership situations that run contrary to what we believe is best for kids?
Are STANDARDS for professional learning necessary? Why or why not?
I'm struggling with finding balance of being in building & growing as a leader through conferences, committees & activities
Moving from an old framework of education to the 21st century. Leaving behind industrialized education.
small incremental steps. taking things off teacher's plates whenever necessary.
We've been working on differentiating PD & making it more meaningful - a work in progress!
How do we convert Ts to use more technology when it fails so often? What's the best support?
Awesome! I'd love to hear how it goes! https://t.co/4dlpsNLCyY
Same here. I started a book group. Moving to twitter to answer questions next week.
How do I encourage my teachers to be self-directed, I'm a tech coach in a district that stresses this w/ Ss https://t.co/U8DB2no3Qb
G'morning! Today's topic - What's a big question you've been grappling with, or a problem you've been trying to solve, recently?
that's another question - when do you know it's time to move on? I know it's time but probably should have left sooner
I'm really struggling with grades. Find myself cringing when told to enter grades weekly. I want a grade book that's text only!
. The administrative support I have is incredible so it's makes this yr of transition easier. :-)
I'm trying to encourage Ts to use more tech in the classroom, at least Twitter, they are terrified!
Can you flip your classroom?
I think you have to celebrate those who embrace PD. Let the PD haters realize what they are missing.
https://t.co/SVHxQ43zjB
How do you convince someone that they need PD when they don't think so?
GM friends! How do you get Ts who have been t-ching for 15+ years to embrace & follow currnt stds? https://t.co/DQ3Cnd6INf
G'morning! Today's topic - What's a big question you've been grappling with, or a problem you've been trying to solve, recently?
Good morning! Oona from NJ here with my youngest little guy! Littlest BFC member today.
I so agree, time is always an issue!
Best way to contribute to a positive school culture? Love what you do & don't be afraid to share that with others!
always solutions oriented. Just had this conversation with kids yesterday. It's better than complaining
yes! So hard yet so needed. Keep your ever positive attitude flowing and you surely will rise above the tides.
I'm actually doing a twitter PD session after school next Friday for our sister campus-hoping to get more T's on!
That's a tough one! https://t.co/smGS5CBT6h
How do you convince someone that they need PD when they don't think so?
I believe in creative noncompliance. Find a way around the system when it serves your students/teachers.
Never are they two half-time positions...like trying to juggle two full-time positions.
That, IMO, is the key. Despite headwinds & setbacks what I can control is how I project solutions-focused excellence.
That's a tough one, especially as I try to de-center myself & assume good intentions. But can't run in two directions.
show proof! Can't argue with data!
tried to, but my Alt Ed Ss almost never do work outside class. But have blended almost everything is online https://t.co/GJqihTEF9H
Can you flip your classroom?
Completely understand! Hard to make them see kids are more than data.
It's a constant commitment to looking at the glass as half full. My principal reminded me of that yesterday.
How can we work to grow and update practices -- without sending the message that EVERYTHING is wrong and has to be changed?
My greatest worry is that addressed in books: that my Ss have to recover from school, not be enriched by it
my biggest struggle/ question is the same as from the beginning of the year. How do I find balance with school, family and me?
Especially at this time of year, or as the semester wears on.
You sure did! Booked my flights ... 30hr flight home!!! Ahhhh why is Australia so far ? https://t.co/7kJJgNcRTr
Hi Brett!! Did I hear somewhere that you're going to in June?
Hmm-I like to think that being positive, building relationships & "showing" "modeling" that your way works can help.
Why do we feel the need to try to implement everything new under sun?
Focus on the essential and take it one day at a time, always an effective approach. Sounds like you're role modeling, too.
. Don't forget to include yourself in the mix. Deservedly so!
Ive asked about 3 questions.
but PD haters can poison and bring down the majority of staff. How do you combat that?
Prioritize and build capacity to implement incrementally.
https://t.co/FRJXdNSwmm
How can we work to grow and update practices -- without sending the message that EVERYTHING is wrong and has to be changed?
that is what I've been doing. I'm on the same page
I love the phrase "solutions-focused excellence" That will be my new mantra!
When will we acknowledge the impactof media on young people & how they resolve conflicts/treat one another. https://t.co/IpoESFua7Q
G'morning! Today's topic - What's a big question you've been grappling with, or a problem you've been trying to solve, recently?
I was hyper focused on one thing I had been unable to change. I think letting go could bring me the insight I need.
Big question how to stay balanced in the hectic world of education
Hi Ellen! Missed you and the family the past few weeks.
I agree! I learn so much from educators on Twitter! https://t.co/cvNzZfx8YQ
so great. Twitter has been transformational as far as this current year in my education.
Despite knowing better "that's the way it's always been done" seems to rule a lot. And some even will add "and always will be" WHY?
Im not really sure. I would love strategies to deal with that.
It's like a salmon swimming upstream, isn't it? Lol. https://t.co/2UXq5fLLJG
I'm trying to encourage Ts to use more tech in the classroom, at least Twitter, they are terrified!
Which speaks to the importance of keeping one's on data showing how innovations produce positive S growth.
worse now has been ongoing issue since Sept Make most work Ss center so they can work at own pace but still https://t.co/yHk8MGwtzu
Especially at this time of year, or as the semester wears on.
Don't complain about the darkness, be the light... https://t.co/aZVvQDBkta
always solutions oriented. Just had this conversation with kids yesterday. It's better than complaining
Chris!!! This year has been exhausting but next year I get to be full time coaching!! I'm almost there!
agreed. I was angry yesterday. Today I'm just interested info using on the kids I have to go with my conscience
Why is there a struggle amongst adults to do positive things for Ss & school when we all say that we are here for Ss?
YES! So, I suppose my real question is WHY isn't there more of this?
Respectfully, they can only bring down the staff in a culture that allows it. Divide and conquer.
https://t.co/JRJPBAqCk2
but PD haters can poison and bring down the majority of staff. How do you combat that?
How do I find a job that I love? I'm thinking of moving from Ind. school to public because it seems like it's all about parents
Good for you. At least all the conditions are there for success. Great effort!
YES! Embrace yourself, your beliefs and show them the teacher and individual you are! Others will follow.
We have to be the change (especially when we don't want to) & meaningful change takes TIME. I'm not so patient
some Ts can't break out of their comfort zone, gotta shake the tree ! https://t.co/I2NAKl5aF3
Despite knowing better "that's the way it's always been done" seems to rule a lot. And some even will add "and always will be" WHY?
How do I stay in the game 100%?
Nice approach! "Creative Noncompliance"
me too. It always has before. I suspect there is more at play than is visible
What and how can we reverse student apathy?
I also let them know its OK to complain (illustrate/explain problem) but its important to shift to solutions quickly...
Baby steps can be much less stressful and allows us to learn during implementation.
We don't often take the time to reflect and strategize.
It is INDEED a challenge!
https://t.co/RTrtg1MXIN
YES! So, I suppose my real question is WHY isn't there more of this?
Great Q! Wouldn't it be great to have a version of a wifi hot spot for entire schools?!
Wow, I really needed that. Thank you my friend:)
Commit to the values set out in the Mission Statement. Make a smile part of your daily uniform. Leave ego at the door.
that is a real issue for me. I often wonder if I have helped enough change happen.
thanks, getting better at the end of semester most caught up work at own pace slow but progress frustrating https://t.co/qAlFzP6YPa
Good for you. At least all the conditions are there for success. Great effort!
yes. Sometimes innovation doesn't shift data immediately. Takes time. I'm on it 😀
I AGREE ego has no place in education.
Small victories count and resonate !
https://t.co/UrrIHeaWF4
that is a real issue for me. I often wonder if I have helped enough change happen.
That can be so frustrating! Has anyone shared that there is more to it? Sometimes just that acknowledgment helps me.
Hopefully. but that can get tricky.
That's what I do. Respect for all, of any age (gender, race, etc.) my main non-negotiable.
Glad you're here. I know I can't stand when I can't make it to . We really are blessed to have each other:)
Same struggle every yr for me! Demands are high in our lives so if we aren't intentional,we can lose sight of 1 area.
That's going to be a lifelong workshop for us all, I suspect. Time is as precious as $. How to carve out time for Ts?
There are so many GREAT things happening in education today...
Why do I always feel that I need to do more for my Ts & Ss even though it's not always realistic?
you're doing it now !!! we are all in it together ! https://t.co/gLHmIVBLcZ
How do I stay focused on the good despite the pressure of the end of the year to do list?
Off to get my kiddos ready for the day. Happy Friday!
YES! And I think we are getting closer to it. https://t.co/vvWiNlhFIL
Great Q! Wouldn't it be great to have a version of a wifi hot spot for entire schools?!
Passionate teachers!!!!! We can squish the apathy out of most any student!
Fear? Resistance to change is based primarily on fear of the unknown. IMHO. https://t.co/h0bdd0wQ89
Despite knowing better "that's the way it's always been done" seems to rule a lot. And some even will add "and always will be" WHY?
"How can you support teachers when they are in a school with a culture of fear of failure?"
indirectly I guess. Everything feels alittle triangulated. Today I go back into my room and focus on kids like always
Do people not enjoy driving a car as opposed to hitching a wagon? Use a washing machine instead of stream? https://t.co/SOfnF9v3cX
Despite knowing better "that's the way it's always been done" seems to rule a lot. And some even will add "and always will be" WHY?
Are STANDARDS for professional learning necessary? Why or why not? Wonder if a lack of standards may be a reason for ineffective PL.
Patience, strength and peace to all of you!
No vegan bacon (I know, sacrilege) on menu. How about a nice plate of home fries?
I never manage this one very well. Need 12 more hours in a day
Hey folks! My kid just sent his first tweet! I typed and he clicked! Here comes #2! cnbvccccccccccffffsswewqyyk
Start with what you can control/manage, build evidence & then scale from there. It takes time & grit to change culture
hard to do when tests & duties are so abundant. Yet Ss are why we are here and deserve so much more.
Tough this time of year when its a numbers game.
We still have a ways to go in data collection and analysis, but we need to work to get there.
Agree. Positivity thwarts the hater.
https://t.co/TbVa9C5P7f
haters everywhere. Just can't be the focus. Firmly believe if PD shifts the majority will be positive.
We are learning to flex-group inside math I & Eng I classes to meet needs of indv learners while using i-ready to help fill gaps
Right here, right now. My PLN has helped me grow in ways I never saw possible before.
It was the question about school culture... Hate to say it but continue to be the change you want to see in others
I mean teachers can react poorly if you show them data about areas of need. its hard to get PD going after that.
true dat ! https://t.co/unGdlDEvzT
Right here, right now. My PLN has helped me grow in ways I never saw possible before.
Dealing w changing T beliefs is big deal. It's emotional, not logical. Best to see another T in action.
Just knowing U from twitter I sense that you play many roles in school-it's sometimes tough when U walk the admin line
This is why PD must be individualized and targeted (e.g. microcredential), not one-size-fits all.
I tell myself every 4th Qtr "One lesson at a time Ellen, one lesson at a time."
Do most/all educators see impactful teaching/learning as a huge investment in relationship-building?
Are you in the same school with them Kelly?
Have a great weekend everyone.
It's who you are. Just don't be too hard on yourself. What advice would you give your best friend. Then take it.
Next year I plan on offering no fault observations to my staff. See what happens when they want to stretch their wings.
Hope all of the crew have a Fabulous Friday! 😎
I am piloting a microcredential program now.
Data about GROWTH, however, can be exciting! Start with that & then ask: "Okay, what do we work on next?"
Yes, the school culture issues are tricky. It takes the ability to depersonalize & focus on what's best for kids.
that's a good point. In my role I can only offer, not mandate.
I'm hearing that High School Musical song in my head:) Thanks for being you:). Happy Friday!
Sometimes it's a 3-year teacher with a 15-year mindset. I think that one is a harder challenge for me
as long as you don't hear my singing voice ! https://t.co/RBc5eO6naO
I'm hearing that High School Musical song in my head:) Thanks for being you:). Happy Friday!
Have a great day and weekend. Let them see your awesomeness!
I always say never feel bad for doing the right thing!

Positive feedback can motivate as much as (maybe more than?!) negative feedback can discourage.
. Do you have good relationship? Peer to peer? Mutual respect?
unfrtntly, admin has hijacked our PD this yr & evrythng is based on boosting our CCRPI #.
I second that - I have grown so much because of these early morning chats. Best PD ever
Thinking of having an Aussie style meet up at interested?? https://t.co/8pzsM8b7Bx
We have to meet up at Brett! Wow-long flight! My son traveled to Australia & New Zealand-hated the flight!
That's great! Curr coaches are so important at every school level.
That's every educator's quandary every day. Be kind to yourself. That's part of being the change.
Happy Friday everyone! Have an amazing day!
Good point. There are those as well. https://t.co/MU0jTOsBYI
Sometimes it's a 3-year teacher with a 15-year mindset. I think that one is a harder challenge for me
Sometimes people lead with the negative...that's hard to come back from. I want to see more of the positive!
Wishing you all a and a wonderful weekend! Thanks for the deep thinking Qs and issues this morning!
Yes is working with my county. They are who we are using.
All these burning questions and not enough time to discuss or solve.
Have a great Friday and weekend everyone!
Wow. What a change agent you are !!
It is important to acknowledge the opposition/counterargument. Validate concern. Then inspire!!!!!!
Love that positive attitude!
Also empathic listening: "I'm hearing you say that XYZ. Let them know you're listening & reflecting
I agree. I'm most concerned w/ Ts who feel what they do is not enough...but they ARE doing great things!
Oh yah!!!!! My hubby's coming w/ me too & I know he's love the pb part of your idea!!!
Great folks to follow on schoolwide change? & if you don't already
Thanks! I'm so excited!! Laying a lot of the groundwork this year-building relationships!!!!
Have to practice self compassion (which isn't making excuses). Can't give what we're not getting
Hey my friend is new to twitter-SPED admin-looking to grow PLN - Plz follow & RT. Thanks!!!
From parenting literature, I learn SO much about praising, attending, shaping behavior. Works on all!
I'm not sure what you mean, Oona.
Indeed! Why the power of collaboration is so vital. Many individuals doing great things = culture change.
People who are hardest on themselves can also be hard on others w/out seeing it
Ah! OK...that could certainly it be the situation in some cases.
I'd love to know what you are doing so I can do one as well! https://t.co/3Xlpo7X7TV
I'm actually doing a twitter PD session after school next Friday for our sister campus-hoping to get more T's on!
Lucky! https://t.co/kE3FSQjmsM
. The administrative support I have is incredible so it's makes this yr of transition easier. :-)
Yes. Not all! Sometimes... just Negative Nancies and Naysayer Neds! Have a great day all!
I'll let you know when I figure it out!! LOL - I thought it was going to be a few-now is large group-UGH!
Don't forget today is the last day of National Assistant Principal Week. Thank your AP's!
How can I make my evaluations/tests better match the rich tasks & activities we do in class?
I am a mentor that occasionally works there.
Happy Fri!! Today's topic - What's a big question you've been grappling with, or a problem you've been trying to solve, recently?
The age old teaching question of course, how do you fit it all in? Have a blessed and enjoyable weekend
How do we fit the curriculum into such little time
Even after yrs of modeling & assistance, why don't some Ts & Ss ever get it?
How do you help others find a similar passion you have about something?
What question ... What motivates kids? It is an ongoing question for me and the answer seems to be different every time I ask
Why is parental choice in public schools so infammatory?
fit 5 quarters of content into 3.5 quarters of actual class time. It's magic!
At what point do we reimagine what learning, homework, & school looks like for all stakeholders before it's too late?
My Yr 10 science class feels like I'm running down a checklist.
WOW!!! That is amazing!! Thank you for sharing!
Right now, kids motivated by ... has my kids no FIRE ... Haven't seen this level of excitement for a proj in a long time.
and we are ... I have to go into review mode as final test worth 30% of 1st&2nd sem. Grades
Good morning CST! Cathy, edtech specialist in NYC, commuting fr NJ. So many Qs...Just one?
Thank you! There's a storm brewing, but thankful for the moment.
When do we stop and say the system does not work for all Ss? How do we reignite curiosity in the "well-behaved", but disconnected S?
Thank you! Really mesmerizing!
How to create tasks broad enough to challenge ALL of my students in math.
Why is "this is how we've always done things" the mindset of the majority?
That's a great question. In fact, it should be a writing prompt for all grade levels.
For all stakeholders! https://t.co/2ypOWwJSe7
That's a great question. In fact, it should be a writing prompt for all grade levels.
How do we as teacher/parents break through an organization's to encourage (more like demand) innovation?
Had to look up Very cool, and a great source of inspiration for invention, systems, creativity...
How can we provide more Personalized Learning PD "PLPD" for our Ts and Admin. in a large district? https://t.co/94OCBU12c3
Happy Fri!! Today's topic - What's a big question you've been grappling with, or a problem you've been trying to solve, recently?
I'm trying to figure out how to inspire "old-school" educators to embrace technology and educational shifts. They re stubborn!!!
Missing being in the classroom as I transition to a new role https://t.co/e2oVCXn9oO

My big question: how can our school bring same academic opportunities to students of poverty as higher SE students?
Whether called RTI or MTSS or some other mugging of alphabet soup, how can school staff respond together better when Ss struggle?
Thank you, Oona! Happy Friday.
Done! Have a great Friday! https://t.co/t2A928nN43
Hey my friend is new to twitter-SPED admin-looking to grow PLN - Plz follow & RT. Thanks!!!
G'morning! Today topic - What's a big question you've been grappling with, or a problem you've been trying to solve, recently?
how to foster positive within our school walls.
We've been thinking about how to motivate Ts and Ss to finish the school year maintaining a sense of rigor. Suggestions?
A little piece of me just died inside. https://t.co/WTSVbdhE5R
Despite knowing better "that's the way it's always been done" seems to rule a lot. And some even will add "and always will be" WHY?
