Good morning! Sylvia, Writing Coach at Title 1 HS in Tampa, FL (2018-2019) & moderator #HackLearningDaily ... glad to be hear ... we closed the year last week yet #HackLearning is my jazz!
A1 I grade myself in the same way I assess my Ss, thru multiple platforms. I ask 4 honest conversations & student surveys (asking the raw ??s, like “What could I have done better in this class?”) It’s all about vulnerability #noego#HackLearning
A1 When the teacher and the students show progress over the course of a year it is successful. The classroom is full of learners: young and old:) #hacklearning
Hello everybody! Addison from TN boarding a plane to DC in a few hours with 6 students to explore #civics and #history. Filling a little free time with learning! #HackLearning
Great teachers don't measure success with grades or test scores.
They have an archive of renderings from students that show growth in a variety of ways.
#HackLearning
A1 To me the year was successful if students learned things that matter, created work that matters, and developed relationships that matter—based on THEIR definitions of what matters.
#HackLearning
A1: By asking the students what they enjoyed about the class. If the students give you a variety of memories, you can say it has been a successful year. They have gained content but also built connections. #hacklearning
A1: Did your students learn and grow? Did you learn and grow? I think it's too simplistic to say a year is "successful" or not. Each year brings different success and challenges. #HackLearning
Always a bit of treble with musicians hanging around. 😅 Also the Venn diagram of band teacher jokes and dad jokes is basically one big circle. #hacklearning
A1: By asking the students what they enjoyed about the class. If the students give you a variety of memories, you can say it has been a successful year. They have gained content but also built connections. #hacklearning
A1: A teacher can only know if the school year was successful if he/she defined success and set goals at the beginning of the year. Revisiting and adjusting those goals during those 180 days will lead to the answer when the year wraps up. #HackLearning
A1: How much do Ss and T trust each other? How intrinsically motivated are Ss? How narrow is the gap between Ss performance and potential in the classroom? #hacklearning
Morning, #hacklearning. I'm Brian. I teach MS students English in CO. What I learned just now from NBA legend @DWilkins21: "When you're closing out, you've got to close out under control." https://t.co/hQOLsCwo80 Maybe the drill looks different 1 on 30 vs. 1 on 1? :)
A1 I looked at exam data, reflected in my practices & plans, looking at my accomplishments as well as students’ accomplishments... be honest with yourself ... there were many things I would do differently with both of my positions ... I get a fresh start next year #HackLearning
A1: For me, as odd as it may sound, my year’s success is measured in mistakes and my degree of enthusiasm for chasing better answers this time of year, exhausted but eager to jump back in next fall. Lots of mistakes, lots of looking forward energy. Been a good year. #HackLearning
Reflection is key to identifying successes and setting new goals. This collection from @MiaMacMeekin offers a variety of ways to tackle reflection. #HackLearning
A1 I also use surveys and ask the kids what I did well and what I need to do better, I am most happy when they are honest and tell me what I need to improve on. #HackLearning
A1. A school year is successful when those little strangers you remember from the first day are now family. Just thinking of not seeing them every morning almost makes you want to cry! #hacklearning
Reflect from the beginning of the year. What path, what deviations, what was covered, what work did STUDENTS do. IN the ned did you meet you goal and can you show student growth..... #hacklearning
A1 To me the year was successful if students learned things that matter, created work that matters, and developed relationships that matter—based on THEIR definitions of what matters.
#HackLearning
A1: One year I focused heavily & intentionally on classroom community. At the end of the year, students worked in assigned groups to prepare for, study, & take the final together. When there were no complaints, good grades, & true teamwork-I knew I succeeded! #proud#hacklearning
Success comes in many forms ... and honestly most important success cannot be measured by a test score. When you know you changed the trajectory of a kid's life ... that is huge. #hacklearning
A1 We had some game changers this year: Global Learning, Bloxel Builders, Stik Bots and green screening our narratives. Lots of new learning, good culture and a happy place to be #HackLearning
A1 To me the year was successful if students learned things that matter, created work that matters, and developed relationships that matter—based on THEIR definitions of what matters.
#HackLearning
A1: In addition to the other things shared, collecting honest student reflections can help make this judgment. They are pretty honest about what they see when challenged to be helpful with this. #hacklearning
A1: We end the year with student-led conferences. When my students leave more excited about learning than when they started then I know it was a successful year. #HackLearning
A1: A teacher can only know if the school year was successful if he/she defined success and set goals at the beginning of the year. Revisiting and adjusting those goals during those 180 days will lead to the answer when the year wraps up. #HackLearning
A1: Clearly if they all pass the state exam at the end of the class, right?
I'll determine success but what my students did throughout the year. Did they learn? Stretch themselves? Try something new? Learn to question obstacles of just believing everything?
#HackLearning
A1) When students walk away excited about what they’ve learned and confident in their accomplishments, then you know it’s been a good year! #HackLearning
A1: The end of the school year is consumed with summative data that does a poor job of describing a students year long journey. Measuring success has very little to do with final outcomes a far more to do with growth. #HackLearning
A1: Relationships, academic growth is visible, and there is a genuine desire to keep going expressed by students. It’s not a perfect science, but if they want more then you’re probably doing something right. #HackLearning
A1: Did your students grow? How did you measure it? Was it that they’ve increased the words they are able to speak? Maybe they’ve become more responsible people. Or maybe they left at the end of the school year being able to speak up for themselves. #HackLearning
A1) the class feels like a family and they can recap fun memories. There's some content recall mixed with that fun. Ask them what they will remember about the year. You'll know. #HackLearning
A1 Getting ready to review the year with Lit Teacher Leaders...I will share a list of what I think they have done together to impact learning and ask them to unpack with examples from their schools...we’ll set goals together #HackLearning
A1 I also use surveys and ask the kids what I did well and what I need to do better, I am most happy when they are honest and tell me what I need to improve on. #HackLearning
A1: How much do Ss and T trust each other? How intrinsically motivated are Ss? How narrow is the gap between Ss performance and potential in the classroom? #hacklearning

A1: For me, a school year is successful if a T’s goals, set at the beginning of the yr for his/her specific classes, have been accomplished. #hacklearning
A1: The end of the school year is consumed with summative data that does a poor job of describing a students year long journey. Measuring success has very little to do with final outcomes and far more to do with growth. #HackLearning
A1 What stories are students and I telling about the year? Those will fill several ledgers and, in a successful year, the balance ends positive. #hacklearning
A1I view success by looking at the engagement level at the end of the year; if Ss are still creating products ( BookSnaps, eBooks...) & having authentic discussions about what we learned/ read that year. Smiles, are a pretty good indication, too! #HackLearning
A1: Did your students grow? How did you measure it? Was it that they’ve increased the words they are able to speak? Maybe they’ve become more responsible people. Or maybe they left at the end of the school year being able to speak up for themselves. #HackLearning
A1: Concrete: Progress from Day 1, Festival results, recruitment numbers, feedback from students (want to try a survey this year!) and families
Non concrete: student interactions with each other and me, behavioral choices, day to day engagement levels, etc.
#hacklearning
I like your answer, Monte - that energy is something that is hard to define but you need it every year, for sure!! I’m glad you’ve had a good year :).
#HackLearning
A1: For me, as odd as it may sound, my year’s success is measured in mistakes and my degree of enthusiasm for chasing better answers this time of year, exhausted but eager to jump back in next fall. Lots of mistakes, lots of looking forward energy. Been a good year. #HackLearning
A1 Ts being ts, I don't think we ever feel completely successful - & that's a good thing. Gives us plenty of areas to focus on over the summer in preparation for doing better next year. To be a teacher you've got to be a life long learner! #HackLearning
A1. Ask your students what they learned. Ask them what they remember. What they enjoyed. Where they grew. What interests you’ve helped them discover. Listen. Take surveys. Take copious notes. Look for patterns and trends. #hackLearning
A1: A successful year can be measured through the lessons learned in failures and the growth in success. And greatest of all the connections made with others. #hacklearning
A1 Know what you set out to accomplish and reflect on those items. Look at the Ss in front of you - have you developed strong relationships and provided them with tools to be successful as they move on. #HackLearning
I can't think of any school year that has not been successful. We will always have some finite limits. But there are various levels of improvement that is possible for the future. #hacklearning
a1b: I always did a quiz on the first day, saved their results, gave them the same quiz at the end of the year, and gave them back the orginal results. They always loved and laughed at their improvement. #hacklearning
A1. Mixed success for me. I was happy i had Ss still wanting to write on the last day but it ended w/o having anything to start the fall with #HackLearning
A1: Questions for Ts & Ss:
What challenges did you face this year? How did you work through them? How have you grown? What will you do differently next time? #HackLearning
A1: Depends on the goals the teacher sets in the beginning of the year. You can't measure success unless you set goals, & figure out ways to measure them throughout the year. I wouldn't choose more than 2-3 focus areas for the year! Great idea for summer planning! #hacklearning
I can't think of any school year that has not been successful. We will always have some finite limits. But there are various levels of improvement that is possible for the future. #hacklearning
A2: Take a project at the first of the year and the end of the year that has similar directions, but different content needs. Then compare the two with the student to show the growth and celebrate that growth classwide. #HackLearning
A1-Ss will usually tell you if the year felt successful to them (end of the year surveys are a good way to get that info out of your more quiet kiddos). For me, there’s a certain kind of FEELING in closing out a successful year➡️already excited for the next year!
A1:I like to think about each child at the beginning of the year & compare them to today. Some have grown academically by leaps & bounds. Others have soared in their confidence levels. Some have become excited for learning/school. #Reflecting on each individual. #HackLearning
A2: We love to do “silent claps” students clap with their finger tips instead of screaming! The students enjoy it and it builds a new challenge into a celebration!
#HackLearning
when it comes to content ... i lie to see growth in their writing ability ... can they better explain their stance at the end of the year than at the beginning. Have they evolved as thinkers. #hacklearning
A1: Ss made significant progress toward their goals and can reflect on the year in a positive way. Ss are still highly engaged at the year's end. #hacklearning
Celebrate learning by showing off great work--not by showing off GPAs. What have kids accomplished that we can amplify to the entire community?
#HackLearning
Agree -- but also take time to count the blessings of the year. Being thankful for the year past is part of thinking about the year to come. #HackLearning
A1: Another measure for me is the degree of separation anxiety I am experiencing as I kick another group of kiddos out of the nest to watch their wings catch the wind. Lots of anxiety this year. After a year of Smiles/Frowns, I have never been more connected or sad. #HackLearning
Love this idea! I use Google Surveys for the same purpose. I loop w/ my Ss, so it allows me to really reflect & refine year 2 for delivery. #HackLearning
Then again, school-year endings sometimes feels like this James Bond moment: nearly out of control, short of desired results, having gotten roughed up at a cost. https://t.co/da8xcX6VV7#hacklearning
Celebrate learning by showing off great work--not by showing off GPAs. What have kids accomplished that we can amplify to the entire community?
#HackLearning
A2 My sts were the lowest readers and mathematicians in 9th grade, so I published their poetry & asked for their autographs in my copy! 💜 #HackLearning
A2: Students love having their creativity and work displayed in the hallway. I know it’s nothing extra special, but it gives them something to be proud of. #HackLearning
A2 Instead of sugary parties or low-level games, our students can celebrate their learning by choosing what made their year successful and creating academic portfolios based on their own definitions of success.
Here’s how: https://t.co/sQ9DwyrLJE#HackLearning
My End of School Pages https://t.co/WMWvgGZhfM My Summer Fun and Learning pages https://t.co/8FtXZDj54p Have students prepare a School Year Learning Exit Slip and Tips for New Students to their grade and subject area. Keep learning going during the Summer! #HackLearning
A3: Surround yourself with people who love you, challenge yourself to grow a little more this summer, and try at least one new thing to get you thinking differently. OH, and 10 encouraging notes to the kids who most need it for the start of next year! #HackLearning
Asking good questions about the next year and pursuing answers to those questions, reading, connecting with professionals, such as on this chat, etc. #HackLearning
A2: An idea could be a school party where students share their best moments from all over the year. They may have prepared short presentations through videos, ebooks, skits etc #hacklearning
A1: Success is measured by whether or not goals were met & growth occurred. It shouldn’t just be based on academics or numerical representation of an assessment that was administered. Are Ss better human beings, are they walking away better than when they started? #hacklearning
A2: I taught elementary and I encouraged students to organize their own final learning celebration. I created a slideshow, and they determined ways to share excitement for learning. Poems, skits, drawings, videos... They were great! #HackLearning
We had a teacher collect our letters in elementary school and mail them to us in high school our senior year. I wonder where she kept all those letters for so many years? #HackLearning
A1: Another measure for me is the degree of separation anxiety I am experiencing as I kick another group of kiddos out of the nest to watch their wings catch the wind. Lots of anxiety this year. After a year of Smiles/Frowns, I have never been more connected or sad. #HackLearning
I always thought it would be wonderful if elementary students could start with next year's teacher the last week of school. That way, when they come back in the fall, there are some things that are already familiar. Never could make it happen, though. #HackLearning
A2: Don't know that I'd consider it "hacky", but displaying student creations in the physical classroom and digitally online. Saving video projects to YouTube also allows future students to see exemplars. #HackLearning
A2: Have Ss set & track their goals throughout the year - reward them when they meet their goal (as individuals or a class). Give students time to review incorporate your feedback - then praise & celebrate their growth. Need to be thoughtful about this & give time. #hacklearning
This is such an important conversation! We need to be able to be nuanced enough in our analysis to recognize and celebrate our impact while also addressing areas where we can improve our craft. #HackLearning
I always thought it would be wonderful if elementary students could start with next year's teacher the last week of school. That way, when they come back in the fall, there are some things that are already familiar. Never could make it happen, though. #HackLearning
A2. Each week we publish a class eNewsletter student work product showcase. Make the learning transparent!!! Photos. Reflections. Videos. Blogs. Podcasts. Etc. #hacklearninghttps://t.co/1NU8Y70psX
A2 Look at growth, share funny memories, celebrate the relationships. Give students the end of the year voice. "Tell me what you learned and what you found valuable" Helps to keep a time line through the year to share at the end. #hacklearning
A2b: In music, with my 8th graders, we look back and play any of their old favorite songs over the past four years (I had most of them for all four). Lots of fun memories & smiles! #HackLearning
Celebrate learning by showing off great work--not by showing off GPAs. What have kids accomplished that we can amplify to the entire community?
#HackLearning
A2.
I did a time capsule on the first day with goals, interests, and height (will string). Ss open them on the last day with a reflection piece. So powerful and fun.
I also had Ss write a letter to my next year's class with advice on how to succeed.
Win-win! #hacklearning
A2: Let Ss see how much they've actually learned. When they compare work/understanding from the earlier in the year to later in the year, it opens Ss eyes to things they didn't realize they've learned. #HackLearning
A2: I taught elementary and I encouraged students to organize their own final learning celebration. I created a slideshow, and they determined ways to share excitement for learning. Poems, skits, drawings, videos... They were great! #HackLearning
A2: I used to print weekly progress reports for my students, and they would get a sticker if they met their goal and/or made growth! They loved it! I also gave them time to review their report, get missing assignments, & suggest ways to improve their grade. #hacklearning
A2: I’m chewing on whether there is a way to ask other Ss to share something they saw each member of their class improve on over the year. One thing for the T to celebrate. Coming from peers may be another level. #HackLearning
A2 We hold a STEM Showcase, where Ss receive a formal invitation 2 present, share Ss work thru our class Twitter, and next yr, I plan 3 mail celebratory postcards (idea from @Stella_Pollard 👍🏽) #HackLearning
I used writing samples throughout the year to see the comparison. Huge confidence builder for the student because the growth is gradual. The first to last sample shows a remarkable difference. #HackLearning
A1- I always look at the why. My why is all about the relationship so I ask if I built those with parents, Ss, Ts. The scores follow the relationship. #HackLearning
A 2.1: We also do digital portfolios at the end of the year and students enjoy seeing their video submissions from Sept vs. now. And to cap off our #geniushour projects, we're doing gallery walks and inviting families and other classes. #hacklearning
A2: I’ve had Ss write letters to their further selves & given it to them the following year. I’ve also had them write letters to the next year’s Ss letting them know what to expect, they often realize how much they accomplished. It’s about making them aware. #hacklearning
A2: Google Drive, son! Natural portfolio building as kids move vertically. Have them start building a Google Site to showcase themselves. Build Their Brand! #hacklearning

A2: I am going to celebrate with my kids by asking them all to write and deliver “Sappy Student Rhymes” about our community. I write them #sappysyrhymes every day. We will also have a cereal party. Don’t tell my admin. 😉 #HackLearning
A2: Have Ss write a "survival guide" for your class to pass along to the Ss who are coming up. Lots of great insights for you and opportunities to discuss what was learned along the way. #hacklearning
A2 At the end of the school year, I aim to publish Ss work to the broadest audience possible, to celebrate them as authors/readers. @BookCreatorApp is useful & Tweeting out to fellow Ts in my #PLN are ways to share Ss work. #HackLearning
A2: Sharing learning is empowering for Ss. Ex: Professionals in the field of what is being learned either personally or virtually, at board meetings, community fairs... #hacklearning
A2: Student learning has less to do with the content and more to do with the process. A great way to measure student growth is having kids articulate the habits of mind they have learned and explain why it will positively impact their future. #HackLearning
A common theme I see in #hacklearning: Words are powerful. Authentic feedback, reflection, & celebration, whether by students or teachers, is important!
A2: Have Ss write a "survival guide" for your class to pass along to the Ss who are coming up. Lots of great insights for you and opportunities to discuss what was learned along the way. #hacklearning
A2: Have Ss write a "survival guide" for your class to pass along to the Ss who are coming up. Lots of great insights for you and opportunities to discuss what was learned along the way. #hacklearning
A2) Some of our teachers have done “wax museums” as a culmination of learning. Students represent historical that they’ve researched. Great celebration of learning! #HackLearning
A2: One year I had classes set goals for their class, & each time a goal was achieved (ie class avg over 80, perf att), I'd add a ring to the paper chain. The class who's chain reached the floor first won a food party. Was very motivating and community building! #hacklearning

Hi, I'm Jenny a public health nutrition counselor/educator. A1 - I always felt my efforts were successful when new clients shared their tips with me - & they were messages I had been sharing with others. Education is a tree, the teacher is both the trunk & a branch. #HackLearning
A1: How can you determine a successful school year? If kids are banging down the door to your class to get IN — not OUT — you’ve obviously created an inviting class culture where kids are excited about learning — that in itself screams SUCCESS! #HackLearning
A2: Don't know that I'd consider it "hacky", but displaying student creations in the physical classroom and digitally online. Saving video projects to YouTube also allows future students to see exemplars. #HackLearning
A3: Learn something new! I enjoy learning new techniques to try in the upcoming school year and collaborating with my colleague.
I recharge by spending time with my husband and daughter. #HackLearning
I always thought it would be wonderful if elementary students could start with next year's teacher the last week of school. That way, when they come back in the fall, there are some things that are already familiar. Never could make it happen, though. #HackLearning
Love this idea. I used to keep a scrapbook of our best quotes, memories, and learning. The Ss loved it so much they started added to it themselves. #HackLearning
A3 I’m looking forward to my summer reading stack ... working with tchrs in #SpringBoardPL and making plans for my new position ... ready to learn with and from a new group of tchrs @BrandonHSEagles ❤️🖤❤️ #HackLearning
A3: Let it actually be an "off" season for a little bit before exploring things for the coming year. Step back from all things edu and recharge. Amazing the ideas that can come to you when you're NOT trying to think of them. #hacklearning
A2:Each S in our building has a name tag in the hallway. I use this as a place for Ss to showcase what THEY are proud of--they own it. When they have accomplished something, they can choose to put it under their name--changing it out as often as they like.#hacklearning#TMGenius
A2: Have you tried students Year Mapping! Allowing students to bridge connections between content, understandings, and real-life... check out number 5! #Hacklearning#stem
A1: I have my students write me letters about what we’ve done and most importantly I tell them they can’t hurt my feelings - let me reallllllyy know what they think! And they do! #HackLearning
A3: For me it is by making it more balanced than the school year tends to be. Continue to read, learn, and plan, but get outside, build a more regular exercise plan, and cultivate some of your interests as well. #hacklearning
A3 We can teach our students (and ourselves!) to develop summer self-care routines that we then bring into the fall. Here’s how to plan for self-care alongside your students: https://t.co/mhAaZdzAxp#HackLearning
A3: Read, read, read, read, read! Have an open mind, and push yourself like you to do your students to consider different viewpoints. Learn something new. Reflect. And take your new knowledge and mindsets into the classroom in the fall! #HackLearning
My daughter’s K T had them write their name and draw self portrait each month. My daughter’s didn’t improve much but you could see the disconnect when comparing the work. She needed glasses! #HackLearning
A2- When a student’s work is shared via Twitter, AND we get a response... it’s almost guaranteed to make a 7th grader excited (and that’s not easy!) #Hacklearning
In praise of steady maintenance: I like the weekly rhythms of this -- small, ongoing, incremental steps vs. strictly end-of-year (often hyperventilating) culmination. Upon reflection (pun intended), there's likely room for both. #hacklearning
A2: I used to print weekly progress reports for my students, and they would get a sticker if they met their goal and/or made growth! They loved it! I also gave them time to review their report, get missing assignments, & suggest ways to improve their grade. #hacklearning
A3: Rest. Take time to sleep in and get away. But summer is also a good chance to work on designing a new _____ for the school year, something that you may have been thinking of but takes more time/thought than typically happens during the year. #HackLearning
Are you ready to extend your learning? Join us this week on #HackLearningDaily ... celebrate Memorial Day then join us for Q1 on Tuesday! #HackLearning
A balance of professional, personal, and just plain fun seems like the perfect balance when planning a productive summer that will help us recharge for 2018-19. Her'e's one teacher's list: #HackLearning
A2- we celebrate by recognizing how far we’ve come. I often have students reflect on their goals. The INTERNAL satisfaction they get from hitting their goals is #priceless#HackLearning
I have a reflection they complete at the end of each unit that has them identify the habits of mind they have improved upon and the habits of mind they need to work on. The final reflection is compared to the unit reflections to see their trajectory #HackLearning
I would love for people to share here their summer reading stack. Always encouraged by what people are reading and I get ideas for my reading too. #HackLearning
A3 I’m looking forward to my summer reading stack ... working with tchrs in #SpringBoardPL and making plans for my new position ... ready to learn with and from a new group of tchrs @BrandonHSEagles ❤️🖤❤️ #HackLearning
Hi, I'm Jenny a public health nutrition counselor/educator. A1 - I always felt my efforts were successful when new clients shared their tips with me - & they were messages I had been sharing with others. Education is a tree, the teacher is both the trunk & a branch. #HackLearning
A3: As I mentioned in A1, reflecting on our mistakes and dreaming and scheming of ways to chase better, especially in ways that run against the grain, ways that flirt with risks. We have to take risks if we value mistakes. Do. Reflect. Do Better. #HackLearning
Our @FrankElementary Elementary does a meet the teacher the last week of school. It does really help Ss to meet next year's teacher & to see next year's classroom. #HackLearning
A3 I have a lot of books I'm planning to read over the summer and a couple of online courses I'm looking forward to 😀 Also plan on being outside a lot gardening, swimming, paddle boarding etc. #HackLearning
Class social media accounts are a great way to connect with students, families, community and even other educators within your bldg and district who may not get to see your "everyday!" #hacklearning
Read some great books, spend time outdoors, visit with family and friends. Connect with great people that challenge you to grow and think outside the box. Reflect on your accomplishments and failures. Set your own SMART goals. #HackLearning#40CFPLN#edugladiators
A3: Carve out days that have NOTHING to do with school. Check email on a schedule rather than daily. Go on fun field trips! Evaluate systems and re-vamp them. Read. Hydrate (a luxury for teachers)!! Get lots of Vitamin D. :) #HackLearning
A3: Take time to relax and reflect. Reflection is where learning and connections truly happen. Have meaningful conversations with colleagues about content and pedagogy... Plan the something big for next year! #Hacklearning
A3 - Spending time with family, reading, traveling... and attending a few Ed/EdTech conferences to keep me inspired and motivated for the upcoming school year #Hacklearning
By learning something new every day , professional reading and certainly Twitter. By spending time with this little man who is counting as he is putting the blocks away #HackLearning
Your right on... education is customer service@with students being the customer... however it’s the only service where we don’t ask the customer how we are doing... #Hacklearning
A3: I plan on attending a 2 day digital learning summit, reading for pleasure as well as for inspiration & innovative ideas I can bring back to school, relaxing, catching up with friends, and most definitely spending quality time with my family. #hacklearning
A3: Take time over the summer to determine your vision & 2-3 focus areas for the year. Map out (maybe in a graphic organizer) how you'll measure success, the things you must do/accomplish in each area, & desired outcomes. Start the year w/ purpose & intentionality. #hacklearning
Thanks, great topic. There's a P.S.: A! - and my response was always similar - "What a great idea, do you mind if I share your idea with others?" #HackLearning
A3: Reflecting! What worked? What could be improved? Setting new goals. Reading. Sharing. Learning. Collaborating. I have a list of professional books I've been meaning to tackle! #hacklearning
A2: I make a classroom announcement when a student has reached a goal in our class. This not only makes the student feel special, it fosters a supportive classroom environment where kids are cheering for each other. This is powerful and is great for team building. #HackLearning
It’s important for students to showcase their work to parents, peers and students. The feedback received develops intrinsic motivation to improve over time. #HackLearning
A3 I read a lot, assemble a few jigsaw puzzles that later hang on walls, try to relax. Take time to clear the mind and reflect on what went well, what needs to be tweaked, and what new things should be added. #HackLearning
This will come off as shamefully self-serving, but teachers must read books about best practice. My entire teaching career changed in one summer of reading. Do I want teachers to read #HackLearning and other books from @times10books? Of course. No matter what it is, though, read.
A3: Also love learning something new over the summer. Music? Exercise? Outdoor activities? This is when you have the luxury of time to try some of these fun, spontaneous things! #HackLearning
A3: Going to have the chance to relax and spend time with family, but also taking a few professional development courses through NCCAT and perhaps an online Mathematical Mindset course with @joboaler#hackLearning
I do not thin there really is an "off-season" for teachers ... maybe more like a slow season ... like Florida when the Snowbirds go home ... we're still open for business but the pace may be a bit slower ... repair season #hacklearning

A3: Rest and take time to do the things you love. For me it's getting outside, taking walks with my pup at the beach, cooking, hiking... Makes me feel whole! #hacklearning
A3: Take time to explore resources and websites you didn't have time to during the year. Figure out a way to organize them so you can pull from them during the school year! I suggest starting with one of my favorites: @Tolerance_org! #hacklearning
A3 Unplug by traveling, visiting my kids & getting back to nature. Then start reading, reflecting, planning. I love that feeling of possibility that comes with a fresh new year! #HackLearning

The month of July is packed with leadership PD for me. So excited! Admin Team is reading Dintersmith’s What School Could Be in preparation of our August retreat. #HackLearning
Looking forward to engaging in some of these things! Summer always seems to fly by in a minute! I tend to over estimate the number of things I will be able to do.... #HackLearning
A3 This summer I’m planning a few coding camp days at the local library, to keep the momentum rolling. I need to stay connected and remind my Ss that I care. #hackLearning
A3: Use the summer to read a good book, participate in a Twitter chat, attend some PD...
but remember YOU too —
rest up, reflect & recharge —
so you can be the best YOU for you and your kids next year! ♥️ #HackLearning
If you’re a teacher & you’re on Twitter right now—on a holiday weekend, a weekend in general, or any other day of the year—you’re dedicated. You clearly want to grow as an educator & are passionate about what you do. Rest up. Recharge...& be the best for kids.♥️ @SteeleThoughts

My kids get SO excited to get emails and blog comments when we're working on their #geniushour projects! Wonderful to see them getting to connect with a world outside school. #hacklearning
