Hola! Iโm Jaime from Chattanooga, Spanish teacher, advocate, parent and avid traveler (currently in a car from camping all week out west!) #engagechat
A1 A positive attitude means making the best of every situation. Don't dwell on the negative. Do what you can to change it to something that can serve as a learning opportunity. #engagechat
A1: Being positive means you maintain an attitude that helps you focus on goals and keep an open mind about the possibility of achieving it, you donโt give up! #engagechat

Getting in a bit late - Matt from Utah! A1 - A positive attitude is being able to recognize your behaviors and help those around you and make reparations when you make mistakes. #engagechat
A1- A positive attitude is inseparable from gratitude, kindness, optimism and compassion. When these are woven into the fabric of our beings, positivity naturally follows. #engagechat

A1.Positive Attitude is seeing the bottle half full or the loaf half left.Always see the good side. Some are born positive and some are negative #engagechat
Attitude is personal. It is an aura, an energy you put out for others to interact with. When this spirit is positive-it spreads joy and mindfulness. When we are optimistic and happy we elicit these emotions in others. A smile speaks louder than words. #engagechat
A1 Someone who pushes through, smiles, stays upbeat, looks to the bright side of things, even in the face of adversity, will find a way to be positive, and when met with a negative attitude, rises above with more positivity #engagechat
A1: Making the best of any situation. If life gives you lemons, make lemonade or take out the tequila ๐. Either way the results are the same: happiness. #engagechat

A1: I think of when Oogway says to Po, โquit, donโt quit. noodles, donโt noodles. You are too concerned w what was and what will be.โ A positive person doesnโt spend their time dwelling on the past or future but lives in the present. #engagechat
Pretty much the same here. With a tropical flow, you can wear the air in the upper 80s today. A front goes through tomorrow with forecast highs in the 60s on Sunday. #EngageChat
Hello! Reyna from NY jumping in a little late to join you.
A1: Itโs a mindset in which you continue to seek all the possibilities within the challenges that seem impossible. #engagechat#positive#mindset
A1: Looking at the silver lining in the dark clouds, searching for a rainbow after a storm, learning to dance in the rain rather than wait for the storm to pass- is positive attitude to me! #engagechathttps://t.co/Kt0AGn4RuS
A positive attitude is reflected in abundance thinking, seeking win-win negotiations, and knowing in your heart that everyone you encounter was met for a reason and it will turn out for the best - if you allow it. #engagechat
A1 No matter who disappoints or hurts you, look toward the sunshine! There will always be people who believe in you and want to be you champion & see you succeed! ๐ #EngageChat
A positive attitude goes deeper than surface smiles it is a sense of easy going and flexibility that allows a person to roll with the punches and bounce back from setbacks quickly #engagechat

A2: You have to practice self-care. Do what brings you peace and joy. For me, it is spending time with family, Twitter Chats, reading for pleasure and for PD, playing the piano. #engagechat
A2 - I go to one of my favorite artists, "So human / All flawed". If you cannot remind yourself and those around you that mistakes happen and that you will make them no matter what, then you will not maintain a positive attitude. #engagechat

Q2: Surrounding yourself with positive people, doing things that ignite your passion in life, mindfulness practices & taking time for self-care all help me to maintain a positive mindset. I love to kayak! #engagechat
A2 It's important that when we experience situations that may elicit a negative reaction, we pause, reflect, and consciously identify how we can respond in a positive manner. This is especially true as we lead others to increase their own capacity to be positive #engagechat
A2: Self-care is a key component to maintain a positive attitude! I usually try to do three or more in a given day:
๐ถ๐ปโโ๏ธ - Go for a walk
๐ถ - Listen to music
๐ง๐ปโโ๏ธ - Meditate
๐ - Eat a fruit or vegetable
๐ฏ- Burn a candle
๐๐ปโโ๏ธ - People watch
#engagechat
Mindfulness strategies- meditation, respond not react, pause and breathe before you speak, find moments to just reflect on the good things that are all around you- accept the negativity and see it as an opportunity to grow #engagechat
A2: you are blessed to have the chance to change lives daily, you are better off than many people, your positive attitude could be the only bright spot in a person's day. Focus on what you can control. #reflect#EngageChat

A strategy that I find most helpful (and underemployed) is silence: when my attitude is slipping, I need quiet, contemplative, and uninterrupted time with my thoughts. #EngageChat

A2: meditate. Take time to experience gratitude for all the infinitesimal joys and wonder life holds. Remember to breathe. And in hard times know that this too shall pass. #engagechat
Seeing some wonderful uplifting tweets (and pretty sure we all need that). #engagechat visiting with grandkids so getting the love and HUGE uplifting from them. Have a terrific weekend.
A2: meditate. Take time to experience gratitude for all the infinitesimal joys and wonder life holds. Remember to breathe. And in hard times know that this too shall pass. #engagechat
A2- Negativity tends to be an easy perspective in challenging times and breeds quickly without refute. Positivity is a lifestyle, others need leaders to model with purpose. #engagechat
A2: I ask myself: Is this relevant to my classroom/To my teaching? Will my 2-cents inflame or provide a different viewpoint? Set up the precedent w/ the Ss that my class is a safe zone & as I greet them they have to let me know how they are so I can mitigate issues. #engagechat
A2 #engagechat As a teacher, if we get to know our students, build strong relationships with them we are able to stay positive because we know the setbacks are temporary- we see the joy in interacting with them every day #engagechat

A2) I am reminded of the mime that you should always treat others with kindness because you have no idea the battles they may be facing. I'm teaching myself, everytime I feel anger rising, to blurt out, "What can I do to help you?" #engagechat
"Refute" assumes some kind of action. I find in my own thought life that I have to be very intentional about identifying, confronting, and replacing negative thoughts with positive. #engagechat

A2 #engagechat Positivity is not permanent- it needs to be nurtured and the best way to cultivate optimism and joy is to be aware of its presence - and strengthen it with meaningful relationships and personal reflection
Reframe the struggles! There are no dead ends, only re-directions. Have fun with challenges, embrace them as adventures instead of attempting to resist an experience for growth. #EngageChat
A2 I remove myself from the negative crowds and conversations. They bother me more now as I get older. I have bigger fish to fry than dealing with that nonsense. #engagechat
A3: IGNORE. You have power! You have the choice to reinforce exactly which behaviors you'd like to see repeated by giving only those behaviors attention. #engagechat
A3: Drown the negativity with a flood... Stay positive, do the best job you can possibly do, and let others see the true you... Character isnโt something that others will doubt if this is your path... #engagechat
A3) Assuming we left, "I know you are, but what am I?" in the school yard, I find that asking relevant questions such as, "You look troubled. What is going on?" Or (again) "How can I help." #engagechat
A3: chop wood, carry water. I find great comfort in making something or being physical if Iโm hurting or negative. It helps me shift the energy and process the feelings better. #engagechat
A3 I have found that the best way to redirect negativity is to not feed it. What we feed grows - What we starve dies. Feed encouragement, support, and building leadership capacity in our team. Eventually negativity will dissipate #engagechat
A3 I have found that in my work w/ T, I actively listen. I know that sounds simplistic, but as T is talking, I make eye contact & take notes. The notes are comforting because it shows a sense of support -'What you are saying is so important, it warrants notes." #engagechat
As much as we want to believe we are non-stick we are not. Things get to us. More so when we are tired and frustrated. We have to recognize our need to rest and take a step back- when we can do that we can see the negative energy as just that and redirect our thoughts #engagechat
A3 - There will always be negativity in our lives and being able to accept that is part of redirecting it: if you know it will happen then you will be prepared for it. Otherwise, distance and time help to redirect the issues into positive energy. #engagechat
A3.1) Depending on your religious beliefs, I find it helpful to remind myself that I am not a human with a soul, but a soul temporarily living in this body. That perspective helps keep me positive. #engagechat
A3- I try to listen without adding to the negativity. It's difficult at times to be empathetic w/o being seen as corroborating- but sometimes all it takes is someone to offer an ear. #engagechat

A4: Donโt allow yourself to be consumed by negativity. Be the type of educator that works to find solutions rather than provide excuses. If you have to walk away- let it be. #engagechat
A3: I try to stay away from negativity completely. If it comes up, I bring up the positive perspective. If I need to be redirected personally, I pause and reflect, then look at things with positivity. #engagechat
A4: Donโt allow yourself to be consumed by negativity. Be the type of educator that works to find solutions rather than provide excuses. If you have to walk away- let it be. #engagechat
A3 #engagechat Meditation is key. I have different levels of calm & meditation- quiet breathing, purposeful sitting and humming even just day dreaming- finding a mental escape makes all the difference for me
A3: I try to stay away from negativity completely. If it comes up, I bring up the positive perspective. If I need to be redirected personally, I pause and reflect, then look at things with positivity. #engagechat
A3 Redirect to share your experiences that are not negative by literally hijacking the conversation to change it to a totally different topic. Most won't attempt to circle conversation back around to the negative part. #engagechat
A3: Give the benefit of the doubt to their input. Refocus, keep your class and stay kind. People who spread negativity have deeper issues that we can't control, so we shouldn't allow them to derail positivity. #engagechat
A3: Iโm no expert in redirecting but this year I felt successful in questioning the โnaysayerโ by challenging their thinking & actions w/ questions. What have they done to help/fix? Have they considered X,Y, or Z? Typically this stops them & makes them/audience think. #engagechat

Agree. Our people environment often has a significant impact on our demonstrated ability to remain positive. We must be conscious about surrounding ourselves with positive people who invest in others #engagechat
#engagechat. A3: โTell me more about thatโ; โwhat are the pros and cons?โ; โDescribe your visionโ. Often, people have different visions of the same vocabulary and/or are afraid of change so seem negative. Fear often is: โI will be lesser if I am bad at this new thing.โ
A3. Be an active listener and relate to the "problem". Understand that most negativity is related to frustration. After listening, truly listening advise.
#engagechat
A3: Recognize the repetitive, unproductive thoughts patterns (regret, not enough, what is wrong, regret, guilt) Instead, become an "impartial witness" to these. Let them "be". CHOOSE constructive thoughts "road". #engagechat
#engagechat A3 It would help a lot if we can talk to one another rather than talk about one another. Negativity often breeds from our judgements of others and their intentions. A tall order but would be good to keep our ego in check. #engagechat
A3 #engagechat There are days where my center is focused and even the most negative of attitudes near by do not effect me. Others where it is challenging to keep them at bay. Mindfulness strategies make the difference between fatigue and fruitfulness
A3: Listen. Sometimes all it takes is to listen and then be supportive. Say positive things and find an edge to turn the negative into a positive. I sound like Jaime Escalante ๐. #EngageChat

I'm just going to pop in and out like a theoretical particle tonight: A3) If someone is being negative there is a problem with something somewhere (perhaps even a real one!). Take note- maybe it's a problem you can solve. If you do, share soltuion with the complainer. #engagechat
For the sarcastic among us, fight this:
ME: This sucks.
FRIEND: You should be more positive.
ME: OK. I'm positive this sucks. #engagechat
(While humor can help in negative situations, you have to be judicious with it.)
A4 My principal has a mantra: Are you working for the covenant or the contract? Ask your administration and colleagues that question. The positive leaders will rise to the top... https://t.co/LY2kNhXRCA#engagechat

A4: It has to be authentic. I've seen too much toxic positivity on Twitter this week and it has shown me that I'd rather have a leader criticize me in an authentic way than drop meaningless and fake cliches on me. #engagechat
A4: - Welcoming
- A good listener
- Engaging
- Believes in community building
- Wants to be a role model
- Understands the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion
#EngageChat
A4 One of the biggest flaws that I see in the educational arena versus a business setting, is the inability to cut a bad hire or a bad employee. Most schools would have a lot more positivity with a little bit of subtraction/change to their workforce. Cut the cord! #EngageChat
Yes! Loving, approachable, makes everyone feel valued, not play favorites. Positive leaders lead by example. They make everyone feel comfortable by their presence. #engagechat
A4: Greets everyone with a smile (Every day not only when superintendent comes by!), Acknowledges ALL staff birthdays, accomplishments, N contributions. Listens, but really listens, to develop solutions and plans of action together to allow staff to have a voice. #engagechat
A5: School culture depends on positive attitudes. A healthy positive school culture is everything in a school. When staff and students are happy, the possibilities are endless. #EngageChat
Authenticity is key. I agree that the brevity of twitter can make it difficult to assess the authenticity. We need to develop a critical friends network that will also make us grow. #EngageChat
A4: It has to be authentic. I've seen too much toxic positivity on Twitter this week and it has shown me that I'd rather have a leader criticize me in an authentic way than drop meaningless and fake cliches on me. #engagechat
A4) positive leaders know how to listen, mirroring the people they speak with. Managing their anxiety and returning to a calm approach to all situations. #EngageChat
A5: School culture depends on positive attitudes. A healthy positive school culture is everything in a school. When staff and students are happy, the possibilities are endless. #EngageChat
A5 Positive attitudes contribute to safe school cultures. Students and staff are generally happier and feel more secure in the midst of positive persons. #EngageChat
A5: It's EVERYTHING!!! It gives confidence to teachers, which trickles down to students. It also creates a culture of risk-taking and collaboration. #engagechat
A5: Positive attitude is a huge part of school culture. Students of all ages understand when the climate is positive or negative and they follow that vibe. People who visit can also feel the culture of the school and whether itโs positive or negative. #engagechat
A5 A school with positive energy is one where students and teachers want to come to school. Problems donโt seem as grave and solutions are collaboratively developed. #EngageChat
In every way imaginable #engagechat - it is the color- vibrant and effervescent that brightens the spirits of all. It is the laughter, the optimism and anticipation of students as they enter the classroom, teachers as they greet them and parents as they see them off to school.
A5 It sets a tone that mistakes are a part of life and that we can see the positive side of mistakes without anxiety of failure....they are an opportunity to learn/build/improve from them. Build up, do not tear down. #growthmindset#engagechat
A5- Without a positive attitude, we are doing a serious disservice to our students. Also- teaching is hard and complicated and messy and demanding- taking a positive stance doesn't negate any of that- but it certainly makes the days brighter. #engagechat

A5 If we think about what a negative attitude can do to a school culture: disrupts teaching and learning, leads to mistrust and low levels of energy and morale, poor communication, slows down progress, we can only choose to be positive. Be the change we want to see๐ #engagechat
A5: Itโs the energy that propels forward motion & gives hope, especially in schools w/ students who have little to hope for. I donโt know ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ, to me, itโs literally the life force of a school body. W/o it, we wilt and wither mentally & emotionally. #engagechat
A5. A positive attitude's impacts can't be measured. It improves attendance, learning, teacher retention, community involvement, community image...etc
#AndSoMuchMore#EngageChat
I agree. Negativity comes from somewhere. If we, as my friend @guster4lovers once said years ago, "trust best intentions", then if we care to, we need to listen to and try to respond to the root cause. #engagechat

A5: if we are positive and believe in our Ss and in turn our leaders do the same for us, it breeds growth, mutual respect, and purposeful joy. #engagechat
Only when doing meditation. I go to a nearby Insight Meditation Center. I also use this great gratitude journal by Lauren Conrad that helps immensely. It provides questions for you to answer that are centered around positivity. I highly recommend it! #EngageChat
A5 #engagechat A positive school culture- is a choice, a conscious decision- it takes a positive leader, optimistic teachers and supportive parents. When these are in place- it becomes organic and natural like the aircwe breathe. We just need to envision it and lean in.
I only hope I can always be as positive as my dog... always wagging a tail... always wanting positive attention and giving off a positive vibe... THANKS FOR A GOOD CHAT TONIGHT @daviswelcome#EngageChat
