Hello and good morning - Marifran from NY checking in
Good morning, Friends. Veronica ready for another great convo.
it's always a good day to wake up.
Good morning! Ready to chat.
Easy. Stop relying on state mandated tests to evaluate teachers and students.
If I could implement 1 new practice in my system it would be to rethink curriculum. I feel that it has become a bit prescribed.
It's brewing now. Had a bit of a sleepy start this morning.
Good morning Looking forward to today's chat. Can't remember the question, though.
If I could, I would implement self directed learning time for Ts. Could be visiting classrooms, webinars, etc. Defined by the T.
Its always good to wake up to you guys.
I am looking forward to hearing everyones answers. 1 program I would like to have is Skype or Google hangout
Goood Morning and Happy Wednesday, all !! Up from a 4 hour "sleep" following a Board of Finance meeting late last night.
Awesome! how was it for you?
Good Morning everyone! Amy from MD here.
Coffee & a little will get you through Missy!
I would love to implement a flexible day without fixed bells moving us along every 48 minutes. https://t.co/kGxZeoB6Om
Tomorrow If you could implement 1 new program/practice in your district, what would it be? - https://t.co/DMquqIBroW
A school Twitter account for kids to have book talks and book recommendations! 📚
oh, yes - fantastic! That gang has energy (and talent) to spare and share
I would implement CTE classes from elementary through high school to address Ss that are mainly kindest hectic learners.
If I had to only choose one, it will be to implement my Breakfast Maker Club. It will happen, but it will have to be after FSA.
Hey Eric! How planning going?
Yuck...hopefully it went well
I would implement MOOCs as choices for Ss who want to expand beyond our course offerings.
We have a mystery skype happening in 's 1st grade class! Can't wait to see who we meet. https://t.co/4nmKo1VlW6
I am looking forward to hearing everyones answers. 1 program I would like to have is Skype or Google hangout
I'm dreaming big here. I want advisories in my school. Ss who stay together through all 4 years of HS in single sex groups w/ same T
Good morning I would bring back play based learning and recess to Kindergarteners. more learning, less testing
Lucky! We can't do that yet. :(
Good Morning! Alice from Nantucket checking in for
oh, my - anything under 5hrs qualifies as a nap
Hooray for books! Love when T's encourage S's to Smiling Out Loud!! https://t.co/CC3jy9cH5a
A school Twitter account for kids to have book talks and book recommendations! 📚
glad to be here w/ my PLN, it's Cleteus from Virginia
So happy to have contributed this morning's topic! Good morning, all!
Good morning Happy Wednesday!
I was thinking the same thing!! Except I did think today was Thursday...so a larger coffee might be needed!
1 new practice I would like to see in my district is giving Ts PD credit of some sort for Twitter chats, webinars, etc.
I was thinking Maker Club. HS can't get much earlier though. Option to Study Hall?
Edcamp model of PD in my district, trying to get people on board w/a PLN, very difficult!
Hello and good morning to all
Slow down on curriculum changes. It has been a crazy few years.
If Im dreaming big. Id want equal teach/ planning time.
I would like to incorporate more natural playtime in my K--1 classes
That's great! I will definitely be there next year!
I would implement CTE classes from elementary to high school to address Ss that are mainly kinesthetic learners.
This year I am bringing podcasting to my school. I got a grant from our Ed Foundation & starred w kids last week. Start w Ts today!
thats a good point but we need less.
I would implement 20% time across the board K-12!
Good morning, Susan! Only neg.: I have to only choose one! ;)
budget time..."well" is relative. Time and voting will tell!
Hi Kimberly! How has the week been?
If you could change one thing in your district what would it be? Good to see you:)
I would give Ts more time, structured & unstructured, to reflect, plan, talk about various initiatives.
I would implement a program where is elicited and honored in each class.
If every teacher had the same amount of planning time as they had teaching time they could accomplish so much more.
I'll send you a virtual cup of espresso!
Did you go! I heard from and it was great!
exciting day Battle of the Books with a fantastic group of Ss
No grade classrooms, of course!
Good morning . Brian from Massachusetts
Busy, but it always is the week before a break. How is yours going?
Love this! https://t.co/hlNfpvwMMq
If every teacher had the same amount of planning time as they had teaching time they could accomplish so much more.
I concur! We are lucky to have such a supportive positive team:)
I wish my district would promote more critical thinking practices for Ss. Too many are stuck at the surface. Any ideas?
I agree - I hardly ever have time to think when I'm at school. I have to do it at home or stay super late.
At least one period of flexible learning time to provide in-school support/enrichment
I have played around with Hangout but not enough for a true feel. So much to learn. Always!
yes end standardized test and no grade in classroom, Project based and blended learning https://t.co/nRYiRS8liZ
No grade classrooms, of course!
Yes! And if they could have common planning time with other T's it could be even more awesome! https://t.co/tWvDwG9YfW
If every teacher had the same amount of planning time as they had teaching time they could accomplish so much more.
I was at Hudson Valley NYSCATE.
a fellow PLN had great success w/ mystery skype as well- would love 2 try out too
Flex-groups in all levels: ES to HS. We all understand and perform better when we are met on our level. https://t.co/U457PW6JAX
Today's : If you could implement 1 new program/practice in your district, what would it be? - https://t.co/7Kgr2FfEJx
We can't do it, don't have the access. Working on that
Collaborative planning time would be nice. Share what you're doing and how it's working. Or not!
We are Skyping today for the first time with our friends in Uganda. Very excited:)
We ask teachers to sacrifice so much of their time at home and in the building. its insane.
We don't have the capability. :(
This is interview week. Sped T, AlgT, Office manager, EnglishT ScienceT. all this week. 20 some interviews. Yes, busy
At a 5th grader suggested classes be structured like college. That might make it work.
I did and it was! Only downer: missed
Also, id make it financially beneficial to be a good teacher that stays in the classroom.
Thanks! Sharing the process on my blog: iruntech.me
Yes! Through play more learning results higher test scores! Go Play!
Agreed Terri! Some of our wee ones aren't yet developmentally ready for the cognitive challenges we're throwing at them!!
All ICS SPED Ts in specific content class for Gen ED support
We'd have certified librarians in every bldg to collaborate w/ Ts, have budgets for resources, instill love of reading
I would then implement a maximum class size of 23 and hire teachers accordingly
We always need more time & often unstructured is more productive than structured https://t.co/fOilorJ1HU
I would give Ts more time, structured & unstructured, to reflect, plan, talk about various initiatives.
Of course, at the HS level.
I'm hearing a chorus of Amen in my head. :) I think all kids need to play more. Even high school Ss.
AMEN !!!! https://t.co/UlZxWQFEAm
Also, id make it financially beneficial to be a good teacher that stays in the classroom.
- don't have access to skype? Hangout you would through the Google platform, right?
Make a change ... how about adding Recess/Break for the kids ... students: the only group in the world who work with no breaks.
Mandatory one year sabbatical so teachers can go back to school and still have a life outside of school with family.
ha - I was about to say the same thing! We've got to coordinate our travels
I would implement weekly Maker competitions to occur in the cafe only during lunch time to get Ss & Ts excited about maker movement
So girls or boys can talk w/ advisor as counselor, bond w/in that group and feel supported
Good morning friends. Sleepless night = oversleeping this am. I'd give teachers more dedicated work time. https://t.co/dbkR6MAewQ
Today's : If you could implement 1 new program/practice in your district, what would it be? - https://t.co/7Kgr2FfEJx
My niece who is in 6th commented on how hard it is to sit all day long.
Can't access it. I can try again, but restrictions on computer wouldn't let me. :(
What's currently missing in your plan?
I would love to foster job shadowing opportunities for junior high. You can't work toward what you don't know.
I think that structures are important for giving feedback -- having norms for that is key, unstructured for startup of ideas
My high schoolers spend any extra time (and it's not much) at the park with friends.
Our Ts teach 12 classes a week & have 11 planning periods. But they still run out of time...
Also start HS later so students ( and Ts) have more sleep . More prepared for the day
Yeah. We have 1 more week b4 break & i am trying to get as much done prior to break
totally understand. Often problem with school. Want to introduce new and more resulting in teacher burnout.
That's what I was just typing. :)
This would be a dream! https://t.co/9QbcOAUmfW
If every teacher had the same amount of planning time as they had teaching time they could accomplish so much more.
Yay! I love that you are doing this. Keep us posted:)
Every HS in my county runs A/B with 4 periods a day. Imagine if the teachers taught 4 classes instead of 6.
exactly! I am in a MS, teams can do a little of that but we share 1/3 of staff w/ HS so schedules impact each other.
Our third grade Skyped with red wolf experts in WA. Even invited 2 other schools to join us. Was a huge success!
Yes! I was fortunate enough to be a S in a 2,3,4 team that did this then again in a 5,6 team. Benefitted all learners!
Dedicated time daily for writing K-12.
I would bring more maker/genius time to my school.
Sleepless? You shoould check out a new slow chat by ! Starts at midnight each night!
Hi all! Late to the party today! Seems like an interesting topic
It has been a lot. IN 5 years, something major has changed every year.
Yes! Play so important for little people and adults too!
we get a common plan period with another teacher of our subject. So much more collaboration can happen!
I don't understand. how does that math work out?
I'd like to see more interdisciplinary/team teaching. Break down some walls & make it real.
College students and adults aren't asked to sit as long as we ask kids in school to sit. It's CRAZY!
Anyone in have locker break at their school? We don't just curious.
Tough question: perhaps a more flexible schedule where Ss could take more classes & blend their learning so there is less seat time.
I thought that would be your answer. 😢 Breaks my heart!! 💔
That's amazing Drew! You are one of the fortunate ones for sure!
when my 1st kid was about to enter middle school, I was shocked they didn't have recess. They need it!
that block of time sounds like a treasure - what a gift for Ss and Ts
I'm guessing those are top-down changes and not bottom-up?
So cool! Learning and gaining a new friendship at the same time. Sounds like Twitter.
Food production, sustainability and 'green' practices (Ss and Ts) I'd also love to see shop class everywhere https://t.co/muwLQ3zP6l
Today's : If you could implement 1 new program/practice in your district, what would it be? - https://t.co/7Kgr2FfEJx
I would really like teachers to be involved in learning communities and learning walks
That's great, I need to focus more on that in the structure time
The benefits would be huge. Finding the ability to implement it would be the challenge but worth it for Ts and Ss
bring back the sandbox kindergarteners need to learn how to play together
hmmm. Maybe it's an add-on that Steve could help with.
I'm still adjusting to hour loss.
I would also love differentiated PD. Sometimes feel like I'm back 2 my first years of teaching & really need the next level or two.
lol. Thanks. That's good to know! I'll keep it in mind for next time.
What's kind of funny, though, is that when I ask them to get into groups and move desks, they want to stay!
1 Practice: Getting Ts to work differently in the room so Ss don't have to work as much outside it.
No more HMWK! Let kids be kids!
I think that's my problem also.
We do pretty good with this as well. Working on making it more intentional nxt yr
HS is the reason i make it to this chat! Getting up at 5 to get my kid on the bus is rough. Teens need more sleep!
Shop classes. The of my youth!!
This is the BEST thing that has happened to me through Twitter!
Yikes! That is hard, hang in there and try to maintain breathing as my coach always said.
thats pretty awesome, Ryan.
Not sure why schools equate better learning with more time in the seat? Even fast food workers get a break... by law
Great ideas this a.m.
Embrace today !
Classses are 1:15 min (5 classes per day except Fri - early dismissal for PD) 23 classes per week. Ts teach 12 classes
yes I have many Ss who work and with Extra Curr. & home work they are too tired for school https://t.co/Su5uVHsd5v
HS is the reason i make it to this chat! Getting up at 5 to get my kid on the bus is rough. Teens need more sleep!
Agree. I have no life Sept - Jun, what I can squeeze in, I pay dearly for with baggy red eyes next day! https://t.co/emPNGgIaRt
We ask teachers to sacrifice so much of their time at home and in the building. its insane.
In a HS its easy, Im not sure about how it would work in ES.
