So just playing with legos was your 'makerspace'? Where do you go next?
hey there! Is it snowing where you are?
I started by clearing out the pro section in the MC. Most of the stuff there was dated. So, I have my "space."
Can you do on a classroom level?

good morning! Admin leader from VA - glad 2 b w/ you this Wednesday
a flake every minute or so - no no delay - we'll have some disappointed Ss this morning
I would say makerspace begins with S inquiry and interest.
I think you can begin as easily as a puzzle on a table and let it evolve from there.
Any Space can be a maker space ... it is not always about physical space ... it is an attitude ... let the kids create

great question as we want 2 build/have one. I am all ears!
Welcome! This is an amazing group!

So maker space is literally just about letting the kids create and make? So letting them create something w legos?
If you ask , he'd say you start with puppets into a makerspace, seriously, think sewing machines, thread, needles
You don't need 3D printers, Arduinos, etc. (although it helps) just start w/ Ss creating & building things that can demonstrate DOK.
Makerspace begins w/a few ideas to make things. No fancy space is needed, it's a mindset. Glue, scissors, tape, recyclables
This needs to be on a tee shirt and worn by everyone https://t.co/aTtjuotU09
Any Space can be a maker space ... it is not always about physical space ... it is an attitude ... let the kids create
Here is an article on r kids who r building prosthetics using a 3D printer. they program it&design hands https://t.co/jxhUNkAg5L
Know nothing about Makerspace so can't wait to learn
I am hoping to have Ss make with lots of different materials-cardboard being one. I Then I am adding some tech.
is there a difference? Making is taking to the next level ... ... art is invention ... it is all in how you define it
Makerspace in elementary begins with a rationale for it. Take inventory of what you have. Ask if parents can contribute to supplies.
So true Diane. Have those items available to use for students to create to their hearts content https://t.co/RZ9f8PLY3A
Makerspace begins w/a few ideas to make things. No fancy space is needed, it's a mindset. Glue, scissors, tape, recyclables
Ok! I may be on the right idea in my classroom. Started gathering those things. and let kids go..
what were your first steps in selecting the way since there isn't just one way?
Good morning Love the topic! Emily from MI
We also do a Makers Night and invite parents & the community. Has gotten very popular

Yes! That makes perfect sense! Starting to get it! Thanks!
had a delay in my work district ystrday but not in my home district - and once there's one delay, folks start gearing up
I'm no expert on Makerspaces but I'd say you start with what you have or ask the kids what they're interested in...
making isn't just about legos or robots ... could be a piece of card board ... making something from nothing
Once you have the supplies do you just carve out time during the day or do you have to do it at another time?
Good morning been feeling under the weather for the last week...sleep was a little more important - I'll be following along today
Glad you are feeling better.
That's what I love about the maker movement. There is no one st way to begin.
I noticed Ss were naturally creating during indoor recess. I filled a bucket with stuff and let hem have at it.

Makerspaces can really support Genius Hour!
making is kid centered ... kid created ... teacher drops an idea ... then gets out of the way ...
Makerspace = builder space = creating space = inventing space = application space = LEARNING space.

It could be integrated into your curriculum. "Create a better ..." https://t.co/JQjmFnFHrX
Once you have the supplies do you just carve out time during the day or do you have to do it at another time?
I believe I had Ss do during , right? The 2 fit together?
I love this and I know the kids must be over the moon for it.
*clapping* when the convo jumps right to to 3D printers & special furniture, we scare folks off, limit possibilities
