Today marks my 30th opening day of school in Swansea, Mass.,as an educator.
Total number of school openings is 42 since I'm a product of the school system.
I'm just as excited today as I was for my first as a teacher back in the 1980s!!

Seeing that I've been up for an hour. I'm using my time to get some sewing completed. Its 3:30 here in Colorado. This is what happens when I basically pass out around 5 the afternoon before. Heres to a great day. #bfc530
Started a ton of books this summer, but only managed to finish BONE GAP, THE GROWN UP, & JUST MERCY. https://t.co/jCH0wyf6o0 As for classroom use, BONE GAP is going to go to my classroom library & JUST MERCY is already there. #bfc530
I reda The Culture Code. All about how successful groups act, what they do, how the function. REALLY interesting read, & useful for anyone who leads a group (like a class!) #bfc530
Good morning, #bfc530! Day 2 of PD week! Yesterday was all about our mission, vision, and targets for the year. We also took quizzes on love languages, MBTI and gave our opinions for what a graduate looks like on graduation day! Excited for today! #firstdays
#bfc530 I took a class in #Writing for Television, and every book we read gave me new insights into creativity, character development, story structure, etc.
I liked Eduprotocols for school and the picture book Run Wild by David Covell is a great conversation starter about dropping electronics and going outside. Plus his watercolors are gorgeous! #bfc530
Thrilled to be with our TRULY AMAZING #bfc530 team! We’re going to make some awesome memories together this year! You are all the gifts that keep on giving! Blessed and sincerely grateful! #gratefuledu#JoyfulLeaders
Did you have a favorite? Also, I took 1 of ur ideas. 9/4, 1st day of school, no rules, procedures, regulation, instruction. All about establishing relationships at TCMS! #bfc530
Thinking about using BONE GAP as a gateway book for readers who don't know what they want because there are so many genres in the book. Going to be using excerpts from JUST MERCY in my #TKAM unit this year. #BFC530

Good morning .... Chris from the ATL. I am on week week 5 and have moved from 9-12 to college/ dual enrollment classes. I read mostly dystopian books but they may apply. #bfc530
#BFC530 Disappointed in myself didn’t finish as many books as I normally would in the summer. Read Trevor Noah’s Born a Crime. Not good for school (Lang,) but good for the soul!
I read #zenteacher#teachermyth#culturize all had ideas which I know I can implement to help me balance work & life, reflect on teaching practices & consider ways I can improve the culture of my building. #BFC530
Currently reading: Dear Fahrenheit 451: Love and Heartbreak in the Stacks: A Librarian's Love Letters and Breakup Notes to the Books in Her Life https://t.co/AUDcvBmpaa#bfc530
@TCMSPrincipal
No one favorite. They all had something to move me forward, push my thinking, and reinforce my commitment to be awesome each day.

I would recommend It's Like Riding a Bike. By @daveschmittou. Sparks to help think about other ways to support students more based off their needs. #bfc530
Jumping in late.... I read #sparksinthedark this summer and am working with our teachers in implementing many strategies from the book in our school. It explores ways to help kids love to rea and write. #bfc530
#bfc530 Had to do some reading this summer for the Holocaust & Genocide literature class I am teaching 2nd semester, and covered titles by Asian authors such as Loung Ung and Yeonmi Park, Caribbean author Edwidge Danticat and Sandra Uwiringiyimana from D.R. of the Congo
I totally indulged in reading just for fun this summer. I read a few Agatha Cristie mysteries and the 5th Wave. Not sure I would "use them in school' but they'd at least have a place on my classroom bookshelf. #bfc530
I read Americanah by #ChimamandaNgoziAdichie. In working with many students who are refugee and immigrants from around the world, this book gives a different perspective on what that experience is like. #bfc530
Oh, I agree with you on both counts. I loved Born a Crime and I wish I had read more- but clearly our psyches needed something else this summer..? #bfc530
I always suggest to teachers (ELA or otherwise) to put the title of the book they just finished reading in their e-mail signature. It starts great conversations! #bfc530
One of the best prof books I read in the past year was Shift This by @JoyKirr & I've recommended it for PD book studies. Because she suggests changes that go deeper and deeper there's something in this for teachers at every level. #bfc530
I could almost measure how restful my summer was by putting the books I read on a scale- there was so much time to read it was blissful. One picture book- The Rabbit Listened- stands out as being a great one to show kids how to be a caring, compassionate friend. #bfc530
It’s not my usual thing, frankly, but it sets up frames for teaching and I’m not always as methodical as I should be so for me it will be a strong ally this year - if I remember to use it! #bfc530
#bfc530 2 years ago, I started a #ShelfieWednesday group in the @chathamhs@Schoology platform. We have 50 staff who participate. Every Wed. at least 1 person posts a book currently reading or just finished. Teachers and other staff (school nurse, admin, secretaries) post!
My classroom is almost set up! So grateful to my daughter for her help yesterday...loved all of her ideas! I’ll post some pics soon. 😊 #bfc530 Have a great day!
I try and keep my email signature "currently reading" accurate and up-to-date. https://t.co/AUDcvBmpaa I agree that it's a great conversation starter between teachers, admin, and parents/guardians. #BFC530
#bfc530 Also, it's so important to make time to read for yourself during the school year. Summer shouldn't be the only time to "treat your shelf." Can't give what you're not getting.
This school year I am trying to make reading time family reading time, where we stop what we're doing and read all together for 20 minutes each evening, myself included. #bfc530
I wonder if it's anything like Protocols for Professional Learning (which is powerful) My Ts will say, "I want to try something new - can we set up a protocol so that I can get ideas?" Now we use them with Ss #bfc530
This is why my bulletin boards are blank. By the end of the year, we all cover them with covers! Instant recommendations and a great "landscape" of reading progress! #bfc530
It isn’t like protocols we might use to give feedback, hold group discussions or come to decisions, it’s a collection of frames, many using tech, to use repeatedly to teach any content. #bfc530
I started reading the works of @BreneBrown & have found them incredibly relevant to the work of being an educator. I also read “The Hate You Give” by @angiecthomas and was completely blown away. #BFC530

This book by @ericpliu helped me prepare for my #apgov class. There is lot people can do to create substantial change in their community & around the 🌎 I’m working with his organization @gencitizen to intergrate these concepts into my classroom. @baketcham2009#BFC530@BFC_530
Right back at you Chris! I will not always be "live" due to a new start time, but will always check in for inspiration and the connections I have made. You are all awesome! Now go spread it around! #bfc530#gratefuledu#JoyfulLeaders

A bunch of google ed books were really helpful, most of all @kernkelley awesome one coauthored by his tech Sherpa students. Also Unlimited Memory though on the cheesy side gave me some great memory aids to support my kids this year. #bfc530
