Yes, one of our awesome counselors joining us tonight!! Thanks Dan!
A1) we have a shared commitment to doing whatever it takes to help Ss succeed. ESL Sped poverty everyone can be successful
Stacie, first grade teacher from Missouri
Join me right now on I am hosting first question right now!
Q1: In 140 characters can you describe your school’s shared vision?
A1: I would say shared goal/vision is: Continuously striving to do what's best for kids
A1: High levels of learning for all students. We're working to shift mindests!
A1: Our vision is to provide students with the opportunity & resources to become citizens who are college & career ready.
A2: we will do whatever it takes to help achieve high levels of learning for all. Every student needs to know how success feels
Please share how you helping to shift mindsets?
Filled out some of our paper work today. Going to moplc conference with a team of six in January
. getting all stakeholders to shift their mindset and really understand the why for themselves is the hardest part!
And I would add instill hope! We have some amazing people who get Ss to believe!
Addressing the why. Working to clarify the essential purpose of a school...student learning.
vision is to deliver an education where sts feel part of the school, have choice in what they learn and how they learn
A1:Welcoming, inclusive lrning community. Environment where all Ss & Ts make contributions & valued as indiv. We educ the whole child
A1: In Millstone we want students to explore their passions in a collaborative, supportive, and safe environment.
A1: whatever it is together we can...helping achieve high levels for all learners
A challenge we're ready to take on.
A1: Our shared vision is to provide a safe environment for our Ss to learn and grow as learners and people.
Wow! Answers are awesome and flying in...keep it up
Jim Smith, Assessment and Data, Minnesota. Lighthouse Learning Community. Jumping in late.
our Ss have so many issues outside of school we are forced to address the whole child before progress can be made
this could be part of a shared vision! This defines my "why" and certainly helps with the "how" https://t.co/8wjVjvFKAa
Q2: In one sentence, write what you would like school to provide your child (if you don’t have children yet, pretend!
A1. In a previous school the shared commitment was to do what was best for kids, just could not agree what that meant.
Shifting community culture from focus on grades to focus on learning. No more point collecting. Understand what Ss master Growth
A2: The constant feeling of being valued and important. If they feel that, the learning will come
I want school to be a safe place where my kids can learn, share, grow and get excited about what they have accomplished daily.
Thanks for joining Jim and for those who don't know Jim he runs chat
A2: A safe, supportive learning community where they work together to explore interests & foster a true love of learning.
provide my son/daughter with opportunities to grow as a learner but also understand that kids need 2b kids and gorw as people
A2: A safe learning environment where my child is known and valued as a learner, an individual, and part of the collective group.
A2: A place where my child can feel cared for, supported, and want to go each day to grow as a student and person.
I like how several have included safety. Without that safe space, risk taking will never occur.
A2...to be creative risk takers and mindful thinkers that feel empowered to solve problems and tackle big questions with confidence
A2: This comment is right on. I want one adult to think my kid is something special. https://t.co/uBmqql2jIi
A2: The constant feeling of being valued and important. If they feel that, the learning will come
this is our awesome English Supervisor! THanks for joing Vick!
Agreed, Imagine going 180 days not feeling valued?
That's the damn truth! If schools don't provide a safe place for kids then our mission and mission are for nothing.
Q3: Envision Yourself 5 years from now. You open newspaper (internet) and read about your school. What does it say?
A3: "Students solve deer problem in town! Millstone again raising the bar in redefining what school is, and should be."
A3: Monmouth Regional shining example for culturally diverse schools and closes Achievement Gap
A3: MRHS gets kids out of their seats & on the move with real world, hands-on learning! (Srsly, there's much more than lecturing).
A3: "Mr. Bianco wins 3rd straight TOY award! " (Lol) seriously id love to see " Rated Best K-8 school in Bergen County."
A3: "Bondurant is again at the forefront of great change and innovation in the community, Students leading the way."
A4:Ts provided Ss w/ the tools to research/investigate, asked students the right ?s, gave pat on the back at the rights times.
I don't know why I'm getting so many laughs for my teacher of the year award comment. Lol. Why not?
Some of these headlines are awesome! Imagine all worked everyday with that as our goal!
Lovely friends...thanks for the learning! Have to head out early to do some self learning...I want to READ!
Q4: What are 2-3 specific commitments your and your staff made to contribute to that headline?
Of course, we are all in this together
A4: We won't settle for mediocrity. We r committed to give our kids the best prep possible. We care more about learning than numbers
A3: ALL kids learning at high levels, parents income - doesn't matter, ethnic background - doesn't matter, Ed label - doesn't matter
A4: I envision the our staff is allowing our students to feel welcome, excited to learn and take chances in what they do.
A4: Be willing to take risks and try new things, working collaboratively with our students to figure out where we should go!
a4: Commit to:
collaborative culture
identify essential targets all Ss must master
Finding interventions for Ss who struggle
,
WES continues to push the status quo. Providing authentic learning experience for Ss.
agreed! What do we do when students have learned it already?
A4: I would like to see all staff, all systems and all initiatives committed to student learning. The PLC is all of us.
4)trust students to take risks and learn from failure. Grow their natural curiosity to produce answers to real world Qs
Q5: What does it look like when teams constantly measure effectiveness? Share what you are doing or would like to be doing
Collab with each other AND students - love it
So psyched are here and I think is lurking out there, jump in water is fine
A5: My counseling team spends more time together than alone in our offices! Always sharing ideas & finding out how we can improve.
A5: Now my xc team is still learning what it takes to be a team. We go on a "not me, we" mantra...
I vouch for that, they collaborate to ensure our students get exactly what they need and more! They ROCK!
A5: When you measure effectiveness you learn, reflect, and ultimately become better for your students.
I recently gave Ss an assignment 2 code a triangle. Met again in 2 days. They coded their own video game
A5: Committing to effectiveness requires admitting when you're not effective and making a change...very difficult for some
Q5. Teachers are able to add the instructional agility they need to close gaps and insure all can learn.
A5: Committing to effectiveness is more about adult performance vs S performance! Can't have I teach, they learn mentality
Continually measuring keeps us on our toes. Always looking for growth. Changing practices to see more
A5: As educators we can learn and grow from each other and in return help our stua improve and make learning in all classes relevant
A5: Teams that constantly measure effectiveness have a solid relational foundation and exhibit trust and humility. All the time.
Q6: What are (or were) your biggest challenges in building shared knowledge in developing a high performing PLC?
A5: They are working together, reflect and making sure the "why" of what they are doing is at the center of everything.
A5: if we make changes & have students not hitting the mark, we need to try harder before we have them try harder.
Mic drop!! https://t.co/2agKHJbOTA
A5: if we make changes & have students not hitting the mark, we need to try harder before we have them try harder.
A6: Our PLC happens any time we are together. The hard part is systemic roadblocks that detour us from implementing the products.
Big challenge: putting legs to lip-service. Reflecting objectively on practices. Still breaking down traditional mindsets
A6: Getting everyone on board. Being willing to let go of the old way of doing things. Then the implementation of the ideas.
A6: Biggest hurdle is the fact that some are still not willing to take chances to learn something new or take chances in their class
Q7: It happens to all of us, what is one thing you do when you start to lose sight of your “WHY”?
When I do evaluations I care less about what the Ts are doing and much more about what Ss are doing. I should see active learners
Q6: The challenge often isn't building the shared knowledge, it's really putting that knowledge into action in all classrooms.
A6: when I was working in case management, we used to say "no matter what, try something, & keep trying".
A7: My why is because it's who I am. I can't say I've lost that yet. Maybe it's who I have that why for? I don't know, but I like it
Great chatting tonight take care
agreed, saw a gr8 lesson today wstations in a HS health class that had accountable talk and writing
A7: I focus on this. These chats help show me that if I keep pushing forward and focus on the positive, it will all work out, soon!
We are combining forces in a few weeks for two joint chats. Join us for this joint adventure.… https://t.co/2UzsfMxU10
A7: I go into classrooms and watch the people that I work with help our students. My "why" are those people, all of them.
