A1 Social Emotional Learning is how people manage emotions by their responses to stimulus, meddle through triumphs and successes, and how you maintain relationships. #cfisdchat
#CFISDchat A1- It’s basically the culture and relationships that you build inside of your classroom setting it up for success between the Ss & Ts! It’s a lot more detailed but that’s what my understanding is of it.
Q1: Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) is learning how to identify and express emotions in a healthy way. It's learning empathy, how to develop and maintain positive, healthy relationships, how to make good, informed decisions, etc. #CFISDchat
We had sessions on Relationships, Rigor, Relevance, blended learning, Brain-based research @EricJensenBrain and instructional strategies @johnsamara#CFISDChat

A1: everyone understanding and managing their emotions, learning and showing empathy along with establishing and maintaining positive relationships. #CFISDchat
A1: Social-Emotional Learning is Learning to manage emotions, build relationship skills, deal with conflict effectively, social awareness, make responsible decisions, and showing empathy for others. #cfisdchat
#CFISDchat A1: Helping students manage emotions, communicate, and build positive relationships, and all of this combined to create goals and academic outcomes. @popepanthers#POPEpride
A2: Most of our students have not ever been taught how to handle their own social-emotional needs. We have to teach them and keep that in mind when students encounter their emotions in class. #cfisdchat
A2: SEL is not only important, it is VITAL for everybody! It is the foundation for a successful, mentally healthy life and future. Without it, we struggle in all areas of our lives. #CFISDchat
A1 The culture and relationships in your cr and how they impact how the Ss learn. We have to model empathy and how to handle diff situations. #cfisdchat
Q2- #CFISDchat SEL is important for both educators and students to understand because this idea grounds who we are towards others and how others are towards us. It is important to have and receive understanding in order to communicate.
A2: Educators are in the human-business. It is vital for us to recognize that social emotional learning is a top priority in order for academic learning to take place. We can’t assume that our students are coming to us emotionally healthy. #CFISDchat
A2: It helps us interact and understanding students. It also allows us to help students learn strategies to help them deal with their emotions, decisions, and conflicts. It helps us to better understand one another. #CFISDchat
#CFISDchat A2: Honestly, it is vital to teach to our students. Many students don't know how to show empathy toward others, read body language, effectively communicate and listen to peers (face to face, not online), and build positive social relationships. @popepanthers
Hey everyone! I’m Joslyn Robeau, 5th Sci at @GleasonTigers Elementary. #gleasonproud I am so VERY grateful to finally see my kiddos tomorrow after the flu knocked me (and my toddler) on my butt last week!!! #CFISDchat
A2: It’s important because we need to be taught how to manage emotions effectively and most Ss have not been taught this... and if they have, it can be applied differently in the classroom #CFISDchat
A2 #SEL is the cornerstone for how we can understand emotions, interact with one another, build relationships, and bust through barriers. It’s a vital component of our lives. #cfisdchat
A2 Social-Emotional learning is just as important because success can be influenced not just by a child’s IQ but by their EQ (emotional quotient) as well! ##CFISDchat
A2: As a primary teacher, I try very hard to help model and teach my kiddos how to use our emotions. Sometimes this is difficult and other times easier. I feel like We can also show them by the way we use our emotions. #CFISDchat
A2: it’s important for us to understand & have empathy for our Ss. Most haven’t been taught how to handle their emotions. We not only teach them academically but socially and emotionally as well! That’s why relationships are so important. #CFISDchat
A2: It’s necessary! Both T’s and S’s have to be able to convey what’s needed or progress in the ability to do so for the growth and success of the environment! #CFISDChat
A3 The role of the educator and teacher is to support students by building foundational relationships, making the classroom a safe environment, and fostering safe risks. #cfisdchat
A3: To make sure our students know they are safe and loved unconditionally! Our world 🌎 is better because of every child at @CFISDWells and I hope they feel that every day! #CFISDchat
A3: Building relationships, modeling positive behaviors through role play, read alouds, and discussions. Being transparent and sharing real life lessons together. #CFISDchat
A1: Well, my own interpretation of the term would be...putting Ss NEEDS before curriculum. Emphasizing the importance of kids don’t thrive (or learn) in environments they don’t feel safe and loved. “They don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care” #CFISDchat
A3: modeling and teaching. Creating relationships and helping them see you are there for them. Showing my S’s how I treat other teachers and staff I feel is Very important. They see me smiling and offering help, the more they might offer help to someone else. #CFISDchat
A1: For me personally, this basically boils down to a deeper connection with content when a solid relationship & foundation are built. Kids (and adults!) learn so much more when they are socially & emotionally comfortable and invest more into it. #CFISDchat#kirkROAR
A3-#CFISDchat In today's tech driven world...we have to remember as educators that many of our students are not learning social emotional skills. You definately cannot understand SEL through a screen! We must teach it through our own actions and our own emotions...repeatedly!
A1: It's the way people (children and adults) cope with emotions and feelings. How they understand and react to situations or events. Hopefully, it's in a healthy and emphatic way towards others. #CFISDchat
A2 I recently read that “Empathy is the highest form of knowledge” and that we as educators need to be more proactive in teaching this skill!#cfisdchat
A3 Ts have to model postiive interactions with others. We have to show empathy to Ss and show them how to handle emotions and when we mess up(bc we do), we need to apologize. #cfisdchat
A3: The role of Ts & other school staff is to incorporate SEL into their every day curriculum. It's ❌ "another thing on the plate" - It IS the plate. Connect content w/real-life. Discuss problem-solving techniques, choices, consequences, acceptance of conseq., etc. #CFISDchat
A2 social emotional learning is important to create a safe classroom environment and build relationships with our students and their peers. When they connect socially and emotionally, they feel comfortable taking risks in their learning! #CFISDchat
A3: it is our responsibility to understand our Ss, and help them effectively navigate through their emotions in a constructive way. It is also our responsibility to model how we deal with our emotions. #jomascorro#CFISDchat
A3: To provide students with a safe learning environment and providing them with tools to help them manage their emotions. We also need to model this for them daily. #CFISDChat
A4 Morning meeting, circle up, direct social skills with the use of read alouds, practicing class norms, and social contracts are vital in my #SEL classroom. #CFISDchat
#CFISDchat A3: We are coaches, role models, and facilitators of SEL. We can't teach it unless we are modeling it and living it out ourselves. @popepanthers#POPEpride
A3: in such a tech driven new world, items important that we teach and show students how to build relationships. We have to model appropriate conversation and social skills as we pull them out from behind their screens. #CFISDchat
A3 Nothing more powerful than allowing your students to know you are human and make mistakes. A sincere and humble apology goes a long way for sure. #CFISDchat
A4: Model. We’re human; they’re human. We’re all navigating this together and students need to know that we love them, we have their backs, and we will continue to work with them. This must be evident in everything we do and say. #CFISDchat
A4-#CFISDchat I am so blessed to work with a team that enjoys spending a few days a week having lunch with our students @LeslieFisher9@blogan2010. It's a great way to show our Ss that we care and to visit with them in their social arena.

A4: Working hard to establish a school environment where there is student voice and choice. Clean slates while still being held accountable for actions. Allowing them a safe place to be mad, angry, sad. Working through those feelings in order to function. #cfisdchat
A4: every morning we have a social lesson to equip our students with these tools. I also explain/model how I work through my emotions. Being transparent and letting them know as adults we may struggle too, it’s ok! #CFISDchat
#CFISDchat A4: Morning meetings a few times a week to share out happenings at home and school, celebrations, and even sad news in their lives. Building relationships among the class helps build empathy for each other. @popepanthers
A4: Praising S’s when I see them filling others buckets, helping or showing empathy to others. I know some S’s have not learned this at home so we have to model and help mold them. #CFISDchat
A3- #CFISDchat
Not only de we need to teach it and incorporate it, but we must also model it for students. Providing them with a safe environment and opportunities to help them build these skills.
A2: I feel like kids are able to feel more comfortable ‘failing’. They know that they’re supported and that others are there to help them when feeling defeated. It also helps students learn how to be empathetic towards others. #CFISDchat#kirkROAR
A4: I agree with @slmoss00 as well as making the classroom a student centered learning with student discourse. Allowing them to have ownership of their learning and go above and beyond! #CFISDchat

A4: 1 way I model & reinforce SEL is by coaching Ss through disagreements they have. Too many ppl today are argumentative & listen to respond rather than understand. Being a neutral presence to reshape sentences & teach convo stems helps Ss learn how to appr. disagree #CFISDchat
A4: I show my students that even teachers runs into obstacles in their lives, but it's how you respond to those obstacles that really matter. #cfisdchat
A4: I model all day every day for my tigers! It’s important that they see us Ts as humans and engage in “human” talk with them. We might work through their emotions together before they act impulsively. They learn to think first! #CFISDchat
@CFISDchat A2: I believe it is important because without proper understanding of ones emotions it can make learning more difficult. When one has an understanding of their emotions and is able to control them they are able to be more successful #CFISDchat
A5: SANFORD HARMONY! It is FREE and all elementary schools are going to have it soon. The counselors are having a training on it on Thursday 🙌 This is PERFECT for Social Circles, Morning Meetings, etc. #CFISDchat
A3 Such a good question! I think we as educators need to be hyper-mindful of our OWN interactions and that eyes/ears are ALWAYS looking/listening to us to see our reactions even in the small moments of our day. #cfisdchat
@CFISDchat A3: I think what is most important as an educator is to let the students know that what they are feeling is absolutely okay, and to never shame them for how they are feeling #CFISDchat
A5: Some of my greatest resources for social emotional learning are my colleagues. Thanks to @CypressParkHS and @msneil2009, we frequently get to “walk the park” and observe other classrooms to see what strategies work in their rooms. They teach me! #CFISDchat
Join us next week with @SwancoS as we talk about ELPS for all learners. Make sure to invite your friends and #pln! You won't want to miss this. @CyFairISD
A3: I feel like teachers and staff need to model what we are helping students achieve and to also help encourage them along the way! #CFISDchat#kirkROAR
@CFISDchat A4: One way I do this is by building relationships through morning meetings, over lunch with a group of students, or talking with them out at recess. These are great times to gauge where your students might be emotionally #CFISDchat
A4: I LOVE talking with kids at recess and/or lunch! I also support them outside of school to make deeper connections with them. When disagreements happen, I show them that they’re allowed to feel a certain way, but to understand the feelings & thoughts of others too. #CFISDChat
A4: I model through my daily interactions with them and my colleagues. @GarrettMandi and I also find ways to sneak these skills in our quick writes! #CFISDchat
