Welcome to #tlap!!! Introduce yourself and tell us your 2018 costume plans. (No costume plans? Okay...then tell us your favorite one from a past year) Got a pic?
I'm Dave from San Diego. Out for dinner and to watch the new Halloween with @burgessashlyn1 tonight...but joining via the magic of scheduling. Will check the feed later tonight! Here is my costume for this year...party was Sat night! #tlap
Hi Fellow Tlapers,
Tara from Kansas!
Educator, reader, blogger, speaker, author of Be REAL, like-to-have-loads-of-fun kinda girl...that's me! ;)
#tlap
Just keeping it REAL in 2018--Unicorns are real, ya know?! ;)
#REALedu#MLmagical@tishrich
In case you slipped in a little late...
We are happy you're here at our #TLAP Costume Party!
Please introduce yourself and share your 2018 costume plans.
Hey #tlap crew! I’m Greg, an elementary school principal from Northern California, and this year I let the students pick my costume. They decided that I’m coming to school as a pretty pink princess.
Erica from Muskego, WI here! First #tlap chat in ages, so I’m pretty excited! Fav costume: gnome. So many pun opportunities. #itsnotwhatyougnomeitswhoyougnome
Questions 1, 3, 5, and 7 will come from my account and questions 2, 4, and 6 will come from #REALedu author, @TaraMartinEDU tonight. #tlap (Expect them at 7, 14, 21, 28, 35, 42, and 49 after the hour) By the way... #icecreamrocks
Hi #tlap! Heather from NY. Best costume was when I was in 3rd grade & my mother made me a miss piggy costume so real looking that if I flopped over on the floor like a stuffed animal people would pick me up and put me in the toy box. I was really little then.
This yr-can’t say!
GATE students reached new heights during today's lunar lander challenge. They had to engineer a lander & rover. Once landing safely, wellness checks were conducted on the astronauts (eggs) & then rovers were deployed. #sjsdgate#SJSDInnovates#STEM#engineering#failforward
Tamara, tech integrator from VA, happy to be in #tlap tonight! My favorite costume is a pirate (of course!) but one year I was a ceiling fan which was fun! (I wore a hat/shirt that said "Go, Ceiling!" with cheerleader pom poms!)
Welcome to #tlap!!! Introduce yourself and tell us your 2018 costume plans. (No costume plans? Okay...then tell us your favorite one from a past year) Got a pic?
Kristen here! I am from PA, and I teach 6th grade physical scisnse. Trying to debate between a pink dinosaur on crutches or Nancy Kerrigan. 😂😂😂😂 # #tlap
A1: I choose Batman! Fights against the forces of evil, only a human but with an incredible arsenal of teaching gadgets and tricks of the trade, and can be accessed any time by shining the #tlap PIRATE light in the sky! The sky of Twitter that is.
Jen Gates, 4th grade from Richmond, VA - still working up a surprise for Book Character Day...but last year’s costume (and mid-day transition) with my collab @lpatrick_RES will be tough to top. #tlap#setthestagetoengage
I am struggling to come up with easy to do activities for NGSS ms-ps1-1/2 over collisions. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. @BethHouf#tlap@scitlap@NGSSchat
A1 Frankenstein.
A solid education is when you (the learner and/or the instructor) can take the best ideas from lots of sources and create something innovative. #tlap
A1: I would go with Frankenstein's monster...as educators, we so often have to make something out of nothing, and it doesn't look exactly the way we intended...but with a little lightning, we can make magic happen! #TLAP
A1: Frankenstein. Past mistakes are stitched up. Scars represent lessons learned. No matter what is thrown at a teacher each day, there’s always an opportunity to learn and grow. #tlap
A1: Frankenstein. Often misunderstood and unappreciated due to the ingenuity, innovative and novel delivery, but once you get past the "outside the box mentality" you will fall in love with the story and maybe end up cheering for it -- at least the kids do. #tlap
A1: I choose Frankenstein. He was created by bits and pieces from here and there. I feel like that is what my teaching style is made of, bits and pieces from great leaders! #tlap
A1 I’d have to say Frankenstein... Nuts, bolds, bare wires... An ongoing experiment... Never knowing how the elements will mix, but always looking for ways to expand, improve, create something new... Although both choices reflected adventure and design thinking... #tlap
A1. I would choose Batman as I try to fight negativity from external forces and lead with positivity and optimism! Plus I have a good sidekick in Robin. #tlap
A1: I'll go with Frankenstein... taking the best parts from all of my favorite educators, yet still growing and learning along the way. And great dance moves #tlap
A1: Frankenstein, I plan to take pieces of other teaching styles of those who I respect and use those pieces to form my own educational monster-style #tlap#aedu290trolls
A1: Obviously, Tony Stark (AKA Ironman) best describes my approach to education. Challenge the status quo, make use of tech, and keep looking for ways to make things better. #tlap
A1: Gonna go with Wonder Woman. Forges ahead with courage; tackles the tough stuff; builds confidence in those around her that they can tackle the tough stuff too! :) #tlap
A1) I would pick Wonder Woman because I feel I am always trying to get to the truth (“lasso of truth”) as I peel back the layers of who I am as an educator and future someinebody else TBD. What helps me move forward in growing is being real with myself. #tlap
A1 🤔 not sure the avenue for Frankenstein so will go with Batman... just a man with tools fighting for justice—if he doesn’t have the tool he needs he develops it. My rogue answer would be MacGyver for that reason...make it work! #tlap
A1: I feel like I’m more like a clown in a Chris Farley or Ace Ventura kind of way. Ss never know what they are going to get, and they aren’t sure what to make of my antics. But they just can’t seem to look away.... 😂😂🤔 #tlap
#tlap A1: I choose Frankenstein because curriculum is not one size fits all. Curriculum and schools should change each year to fit the needs of the students. It's putting together the parts for each student because each student is an individual with unique talents & interests.
This is my first Twitter chat ever so forgive me if I don't know what I am doing! I am Jenny, and I am gone out of our building on Halloween for a Tier 2 PBIS meeting. GREAT day to be gone :-( No dressing up for me! #tlap
A1: Definitely Batman. As much as he was a the "Caped Crusader" whose quote below from a comic book is awesome....he understood the power of empathy, compassion and understanding. #tlap
A1: Frank! I AM Dr. Frankenstein. I take bits and pieces Freon all sorts of my life, experiences and PLN and create new and interesting and exciting learning experiences, as best I can. #TLAP
I choose Iron Girl... yeah, I know 😁
My style is based in strong relationships, protective of what’s best for my darlings, action packed, rocket blasting, & sometimes full of surprises! #tlap
A1: I am more of a #Batman, I lurk into the deep recesses of student minds and stick with them. I make it hard not to forget me because of the dynamic things I do with #gamification and offerings of #studentchoice & #studentvoice#tlap
A1-First inclination would be Batman-always want to save the day & make the world a better place, esp for Ss; they look up to superheroes. But Frankenstein really makes sense too-learning from mistakes & building from different life experiences; able to show that visually. #tlap
A1: Joy from Inside Out because no matter what I always try to be happy and if the kids are in a bad mood I will do whatever it takes to cheer them up. #TLAP
Hello! My name is Monika and I’m an elementary teacher for GECDSB. No costume plans for this year just yet, but my favourite costume was in 2009 when I was teaching at a private school in Germany. I came dressed as Mr. Schmidt #tlap
A2: I'm taking the beard and the mask and using the #CostumeHook to become a master of disguise for my students. Coming in as a dizzyingly wide array of characters (guest speakers!) to engage and enlighten them. #tlap#CreateExperiences
A2 I choose the beard, the polka-dotted tie plus the black top hat!
I would use a silly, manly accent and announce the winners of the "Staff Twitter Challenge."
I mean who doesn't like to win things from me dressed like a man with a beard, tie and hat?
#GigglesAndJoy#tlap
A1: I also have to go with the usual... Superman because I'm so passionate about making school amazing and I feel I need to break out of my meek, mild self to a superhuman self #tlap
Hello #tlap crew! Jumping in a little late but grateful to have made it here tonight! I’m Laurie, #Kindergarten teacher in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada 🇨🇦
A1: I’m a passionate Raider Fan, win or lose I’m faithful & no one can change my mind about my team!!! I support them through thick & thin years! This describes me as a T & mentor....cheering loud, dressing up, inspiring others, supportive even when the chips are down #tlap
A2: I'm brining the magic wand. I'm casting spells of optimism on my team. Because they're awesome. Always working to remind them how thankful I am to work with them. Appreciated people feel good. People who feel good are *even better* to work with. #tlap
Welcome to Twitter chats!! Some of the best professional learning you will find. :) Drive your professional growth by connecting with passionate and talented educators like those here in #tlap!
A2: I'm bringing the magic wand and touching everyone in the room! You get some joy! You get some joy! You get some joy! We'd have so much happy pixie dust no one would want to leave! (Joy is contagious just like kindness!) #tlap#passionforkindness
A2: A smile. So easy to adorn, makes you look better, and takes less muscular investment than frowning. Also, positivity is a game changer. I'd much rather be around happy people than ones that are miserable. #tlap
A2: I think I would need the clown accessories and the wand. I would love for them to see the magic in this job and make them laugh in the process! #tlap
A2) What an interesting question. I think I may have to dress as a chef with good eats because our group likes to be fed during PD-SI meetings. That would bring joy for sure! #tlap
A2: I'm taking the top hat... as the Master of Cermonies, it's my job to bring the adventure and enthusiasm to my staff...get people excited about the next great act!
#tlap
A2: I’d like all of the hats please! Thanks to @JayBilly2 I’ve been inspired to take my hats out of storage and make school fun again...for students, staff, and for me. #tlap
A2. I would bring the magic hat as a leader must tell stories and help educators “remember their why” and help folks laugh and enjoy our passions. This requires magic as sometimes other forces try to get in the way. #tlap
A2: The wand, for starters, because I'd cast spells on the bad 'tudes and banish them from our meeting. (No clown stuff because someone would be scared.) I might combine w/crown so that I could order the sadness & stress gone for at least the duration of the meeting. #tlap
A2: a cape! Teachers are Super Heroes all day long! Whether we fixed the broken zipper on a bookbag, or delivered an engaging lesson we were on all day long! Super Heroes make people smile! #tlap
A2: I’d like all of the hats please! Thanks to @JayBilly2 I’ve been inspired to take my hats out of storage and make school fun again...for students, staff, and for me. #tlap
A2: I would choose the masquerade bal mask because I love bringing a little mystery to my classroom which makes my colleagues become curious on what I’m doing. Of course im not always mysterious! #tlap
A2. I would wear the masquerade mask, and the magic wand so that I could wave it around to make some joyful, happiness, treats appear in front of their eyes! Something special for everyone! #tlap
A2: I would pick the big smile. Who doesn't love someone with a smile like that. Also the wand as I would love to sprinkle tons on fun and positivity on all. #tlap
A2: I would bring the magic wand so that I could spread joy and open mindedness to my colleagues. I would bring joy by supporting my colleagues when they step outside of their box! #tlap
A2 I would try to bring a sense of purpose and positivity to meetings. I want people to have fun, be productive, and always keep in mind what is best for our kids. #tlap
A2:last week I wore my Dodger poncho & stopped by a PD, I was such a distraction they called for a break! #tlap I like to have raffle prizes, food & humor, my outfits vary
A2: Arghh. I just purchased and eyepatch for a book club that I am leading on Thursday. We are reading #tlap toghether! I am pairing the patch with some clementines (to fight scurvy).
A1: I would pick the Frankenstein because I know what I want my end product to be with my students but I may get resources from different people or places. #tlap
A2: I'm going with the Clark Kent glasses, shirt and tie with the superman shirt and cape underneath. Lead from the back and be a protector. Give something for people to strive for...a purpose.....There is a man of steel inside us all. #tlap
A2) Oh man, I can think of so many ways these costumes could bring our staff joy! Maybe if I did my "data" song while wearing a clown costume, it would have a joyous effect? #tlap
A2: I would bring the magic wand so that I could spread joy and open mindedness to my colleagues. I would bring joy by supporting my colleagues when they step outside of their box! #tlap
A2- I'd say all so folks could pick and choose from a variety of tools (accessories) that fit their needs for their kids. If I had to be limited to 1-2, the wand and magic hat. We want magic happening in the classroom, so leaders should model that similarly to the staff. #tlap
A2 I would wear the tie around my head Rambo style and walk down the terraced tables in the LGI, turn around, and say “They drew first blood, not me” .... I think I’d get quite the laugh. #tlap
A2: I’m bringing the party hat to throw everyone a PAAAAAARTY! One where we celebrate all that is going well, give gifts to show gratitude, play games that challenge our thinking and offer loot bags full of #tlap hooks for all!
Q3: Which costume best describes your approach to parent/teacher relationships? Why? #tlap (Again...go rogue if you want to choose another! #choicerocks!)
A2: A wand of course! That way we could use magic spells to improve student, staff and family engagement! All you need to add joy to a staff meetings a student’s day is a smile and a little magic! With a wand you can transform anything! Make the ordinary extraordinary! #tlap
#tlap A2: I would wear a top hat, a purple coat, have a cane, and have a ruffled shirt with pants. Think Willie Wonka; I would give out candy and promote innovation and creativity.
A2: The wand--but not to cast a spell & grant wishes. Rather, the wand reminds us that the true power of transforming teaching & learning is not found in the wand--it is found in the wizard/witch. The magic lies within each of us. Wand is just the tool. #tlap
A3: I choose the wizard! Find a magical way to connect w/ parents & open up lines of communication. Cast the "trust spell" on everything. #tlap I learned from my mentor teacher...parents want to feel heard, give them "oxygen" Read about her here (2011!!): https://t.co/Ijgme1Xh7S
A2: I'm brining the magic wand. I'm casting spells of optimism on my team. Because they're awesome. Always working to remind them how thankful I am to work with them. Appreciated people feel good. People who feel good are *even better* to work with. #tlap
Q3: Which costume best describes your approach to parent/teacher relationships? Why? #tlap (Again...go rogue if you want to choose another! #choicerocks!)
A3:#Superman best describbes me beacuse I try to do it all and be there for all of my students. I do whats best for them, and not was is easiest. I try to be an advocate for those that feel that they do not have #studentsuccess or a #studentvoice! #choicerocks#tlap
A3: I do not think I have enough characters to list everything but I will say that @burgessdave and all the books published under him are great tools/resources for teachers. I use #TLAP w/grad Ss every semester #istelitchat
A3: I'm going to assume that the 2nd option is a sorceress--not a witch. I'm choosing her. I'm picturing the making of a magic potion that's going to engage every parent's child. Make that recipe visible and communicate it well, and you'll have a team of sorcerers onboard #tlap
Don't know enough about Frankenstein's skillset:) but Batman because we do good things that go unnoticed often and not for fame. We always have support(Alfred) and I would go to a mtng with crown and wand spreading my magic all over. #tlap
A3: Definitely the wizard...frantically searching for the right spell or potion to keep everyone on the same page and working towards the same vision!
#tlap
Q3: Which costume best describes your approach to parent/teacher relationships? Why? #tlap (Again...go rogue if you want to choose another! #choicerocks!)
A3: Superman, namely because he is trustworthy, dependable, and human. Like Superman, we all have our weak points. If we can admit that we are not perfect, it makes us more relatable and people are more willing to partner with us. #tlap
Q3: Which costume best describes your approach to parent/teacher relationships? Why? #tlap (Again...go rogue if you want to choose another! #choicerocks!)
Q3: Which costume best describes your approach to parent/teacher relationships? Why? #tlap (Again...go rogue if you want to choose another! #choicerocks!)
A3. I would choose a wizard as it takes magic to create a strong partnership between teachers and parents as there are many variables; key is to focus everything on “what’s best for kids”. #tlap
A3: I’m going with the wizard. It takes patience and acceptance to learn this craft just like a wizard with his spells. But sticking with building these relationships is MAGICAL in the end! #tlap
A3: Mr. Rogers is the costume I relate to parent teacher relationships. Kindness first always! Make them feel like your neighbor! When you start with kindness it will always be a beautiful day in your neighborhood/classroom! #tlap
A3 Again, I'm torn between Joe Friday ("Just the facts, ma'am") and Stu Smalley ("your child is good enough, smart enough, and, dog-gone, I like him/her"). Maybe a little of both? #tlap
Q3: Which costume best describes your approach to parent/teacher relationships? Why? #tlap (Again...go rogue if you want to choose another! #choicerocks!)
A3: Wizard, because I like to think I’m like Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter... she had a way with making peace with everyone and brought fun and quirkinesses to all situations... I think do that in class and engage the kids and usually know how to keep peace with parents. #tlap
A3: The Black Widow costume best describes my approach to P/T relationships. Always look for motivations before jumping to conclusions, make sure you’ve done the recon ahead of time, & be lethally determined to build bridges. #tlap
A3: definitely the wizard. Trying to cast the spell to keep parents tuned into the happenings at school and all the positive things their kids do at school. The parents are key to the potion!!!! #tlap
Q3: Which costume best describes your approach to parent/teacher relationships? Why? #tlap (Again...go rogue if you want to choose another! #choicerocks!)
A3: I can’t follow directions, LOL. This is hard. I will go with wizard because I like make the parents see the magic that’s going on inside of their kid’s learning experience. #tlap
A2: To uplift my fellow staff I always bring the #beard, and sometimes I bring out my inner clown! I played ping pong with giant light up glasses I got form #iste to liven up the mood! #tlap
Q3 Mickey mouse because he is very welcoming and Disney is the happiest place on earth. I want parents to feel welcome and happy when they come to school or interact with me. #tlap
A2: I would bring an artist’s apron and palette and let my team help to decorate the apron. It would be a lasting reminder of how others can help add to your own “canvas” by inspiring you each and every day. #tlap
A3: For me it depends. Sometimes I feel like the super hero and try to save the parent involvement by making parents feel welcome. Other times I feel like the wizard and try to make the parent involvement magical. #tlap
A3: Superman!! I start off the first week by calling every P & establishing a relationship. I build on that throughout the year so we’re a team for the S! #tlap
I am really enjoying @tishrich's book "Make Learning Magical" & highly recommend it. https://t.co/AsFsUk38BK Great ideas to transform your teaching & create unforgettable experiences in your classroom. Tisha created the questions for #rethink_learning chat from her book. Enjoy!
A3: Again, I'd have to go with Superman... because, well... Superman. The ability to connect to people and and make parents feel safe yet understand that we can do anything #tlap
Q3: Which costume best describes your approach to parent/teacher relationships? Why? #tlap (Again...go rogue if you want to choose another! #choicerocks!)
A3: my sports gear reflects my love, support & pride for my team, approachable too! Ts & Ss deserve the same! No matter how the lesson went I still ❤️my Ts & support them & cheer for them #tlap@DoInkTweets
A1: I would say Batman, because he has an almost obsessive passion, which is what I feel about my profession. I love teaching, and I’m always looking for ways to build my skills and make myself a better teacher. #tlap
A3: Wonderwoman- Strong, fierce & knows when to use her powers. Using my experience and skill set as parent and teacher to instill a sense of wonder and approachability. #tlap
Q3: Which costume best describes your approach to parent/teacher relationships? Why? #tlap (Again...go rogue if you want to choose another! #choicerocks!)
#tlap A3: I would choose the wizard because that would mean that I teach at Hogwarts where innovation, creation, and putting learning into action are important qualities for their children
A3- Again a tough call w/solid reasoning for both! I'll go super hero trying to make great things happen, but even more because we try to model for Ss to step up & take initiative. We want them empowered & doing great things. (Student-led conferences were impressive today!) #tlap
A4 Boots for me!!
Boots are made for walking...walking away from ugly gossip and kicking negativity to the curb.
Yucky gossip has no legs to run when we WALK away from it and refuse to take part. #tlap
They are also great for dancing--which brings so much FUN!
#tlap
A3: Dave...what's with all the male costumes? ;) Guess I'm gonna go rogue again...Bionic Woman. One of her super powers is incredible hearing. The best parent/teacher relationships are built on listening. Ask more questions. And really listen. :) #tlap
Q3: Which costume best describes your approach to parent/teacher relationships? Why? #tlap (Again...go rogue if you want to choose another! #choicerocks!)

went rogue! when cornered, I'm going with Superman. more vulnerable, humble, accessible. The wizard has always struck me as a bit too imperious and omnipotent #tlap
A4) I love me some positive school culture! I'd have to go with the magic wand - YOU get LiveSchool points, and YOU get LiveSchool points! Like a little LiveSchool Fairy Godmother. #PBIS#tlap
A3 - My choice reflects the dance required to create balance between S need, P perspective & T intent. It’s a collaborative effort, & often there are many misunderstood or unseen elements. As educators we always need to find the balance to create the best situation for Ss. #tlap
A4. I would choose the wand as it helps us to dream and create magic - in schools we must focus efforts on where we want to go and then act upon those practices to reach excellence #tlap
A4: The magic ball... by surveying staff and listening to their wants/needs/concerns, I can use that knowledge to help them see the greatness they possess inside... then show how they can use this greatness to make others great, too! #tlap
A4: That shield goes a long way...you need to protect your teachers and be their champion...so much comes at them...we need to support and defend our great ones! #tlap
A3: Struggling with this one. I think I would be a Lois Lane and not Superman. I think my job is to be the one who cheers my students on to be the best they can and to help their parents feel that I am there for their student. #tlap
A4: I'd go with the magic wand because, although positive culture doesn't come magically, it is something that you can just feel and it permeates every conversation and every interaction #tlap
A4: I’m going with the crystal ball. Always looking forward and not concerned with the past or how things have always been. The crystal ball helps us to focus on the future and the potential we have as a team. #tlap
A3: The ✨magical✨unicorn seems to be fitting all of these Q’s tonight!😂
To change it up... I’ll say magician! We have the incredible opportunity to make REAL magic happen everyday! 💫 #TLAP@TaraMartinEDU....see what I did there? 😜 #REALedu + #MLmagical
A4: I would pick the shield because I feel like I have set my students up to have a growth mindset and study literature about those who are considered different. Eventually we get to the point where students understand we are all truly different. #tlap
A4: The sword and shield both represent me well. I like to compete, I like a challenge, and I like to protect others. I work hard to be the best version of myself not just for me, but for others, like a true knight. #tlap
A4: Boots! It’s not enough to just say you’re going to do something. Put your shoes on and lead the way. If the path to positive culture is obstructed, choose a different route. #tlap
A4 - Hmm, a little stumped, but likely the wand... Because I like to think I work my magic, sometimes against the odds. Their is no fairy dust, a lot of grit and grease, but in the end, looking back, all I see is the magic. #tlap
Hey #tlap!! Sorry I’m MIA tonight! Busy making memories and working on a little school project! We’re studying day, night, fall, traditions, and families! Students will then write about their creations. Here’s mine! 🌙⭐️🎃 #SageCreekLRSD
A4: rabbit ear headband because I’m always there to listen, and I often stand out in my outfits cause I’m not scared to express myself and be me... heels, crazy headbands, bright colors, I’ve done it all. #tlap
A4: The magic wand!!! My goal is making school a place that Ss want to be, spreading joy & kindness around, & encouagings Ts to find an element of MAGIC that they can incorporate in their lessons!! #tlap
A4: Sword. Powerful and effective. It's no-nonsense. It has the ability to cut through the...stuff...that goes on inside the building that can be a distraction from the common mission/vision of the school. What else would you want to enter into battle with each day? #tlap
A4- The magic wand so many reasons! I want school to be a place kids enjoy coming and learning, so we constantly "wave a wand" and change the room/costumes/engagement strategies-anything for the sake of engagement. However, we also need a wand to wave away the negatives... #tlap
Sometimes that can be the hardest part. I have found the lessons O think are going to be amazing my students are not engaged with. Then it’s back to the drawing board. #tlap
I think this year I am trying really be a magic wand. I am trying to make things a little more fun and magical in my room and hope that it spreads about past my classroom door! #TLAP
#tlap A4: I'm going rogue on this one. I would choose a flame, a spark because teachers should be the spark to help students create, innovate, and put their learning into action.
A4: I’m picking the shield with the crest because it makes me think of carrying the banner and promoting the awesome things we do as a school. It symbolizes being out in front and being our school’s chief cheerleader and champion! #Culturize#tlap
Q5: Describe which wig best represents your approach to building relationships with your students. #tlap (okay...this one is TOUGH!! Choose another wig if you want. Maybe show us a gif or pic of it???)
A4: Great question!! Guess I can't use the wand again...eh? I'll go with the boot. There is something very unifying about country line dancing. Contribute to the culture by helping everyone do more than learn the dance steps--help them hear the music. #tlap
A4: definitelythe wand. It can turn into all those other things as needed. But, mostly it is used for music and magic and tech happiness 💕🎶🎮🎧🎹💿📱💻💕#tlap
A4: Well, the prop that best represents MY contribution to a positive school culture would be the bunny ears (are those ears?). Great listening skills go a long way toward building that culture. #tlap
Love your answer. I was trying to think what the bunny ears would represent and you gave a great answer. I’ve had to check myself with being a better listener because I get caught up in the day. #TLAP
A4: The magic ball... by surveying staff and listening to their wants/needs/concerns, I can use that knowledge to help them see the greatness they possess inside... then show how they can use this greatness to make others great, too! #tlap
Q5: Describe which wig best represents your approach to building relationships with your students. #tlap (okay...this one is TOUGH!! Choose another wig if you want. Maybe show us a gif or pic of it???)
A5 I would have to go with wig number 3 the colors represent everyone joining together to make everything come together beautifully for the students! #tlap
Q5: Describe which wig best represents your approach to building relationships with your students. #tlap (okay...this one is TOUGH!! Choose another wig if you want. Maybe show us a gif or pic of it???)
A5: I'll go with the Mullet wig... Business in the Front, Party in the rear. Because I take what I do very seriously but I don't take myself seriously at all #tlap
A1: I went rogue. I am a minion. I am mischievous, but in a fun way so my students will enjoy my class and stay fully engaged. Minions speak a weird language which I am pretty sure is what English sounds like to most of my English learners in the math class. #tlap#sftlap
My name is Abigail Aguirre and I am a education student at UWPlatteville. I do not have a classroom of my own but for A4 I like the idea of a wand to help with a positive school culture. #tlap
A5 While all three are authentic, I totally pick number 2! Fringe, hard to style, unconventional and completely raw and real. It’s somewhere-over-the-rainbow, and beyond punk‘d! #tlap
Q5: Describe which wig best represents your approach to building relationships with your students. #tlap (okay...this one is TOUGH!! Choose another wig if you want. Maybe show us a gif or pic of it???)
A5: Rainbow wig all the way! Knowing their DNA (dreams, needs, abilities), focusing on how all of our “colours” (talents) come together to make something beautiful & recognizing that we all have gifts to contribute to the team, the rainbow wig is the perfect representation! #tlap
Q5: Describe which wig best represents your approach to building relationships with your students. #tlap (okay...this one is TOUGH!! Choose another wig if you want. Maybe show us a gif or pic of it???)
I get what you’re saying here, but I wish we’d collectively stop using words like fight and battle to refer to education. Fighting implies we have winners and losers and in education, we can’t afford losers. We need to be all working together. #TLAP
A5: I have to go with the rainbow 'do! We have to be accepting of ALL our students - from hair color to passions to everything in between. Show your students that they belong and they will move MOUNTAINS for you! #tlap
Q5: Describe which wig best represents your approach to building relationships with your students. #tlap (okay...this one is TOUGH!! Choose another wig if you want. Maybe show us a gif or pic of it???)
A5 They know I would just be happy to have hair. I say 1, a little crazy and care free but needs some hair spray to keep things in order. We have fun, we are bold, but have order and are intentional in all we do. #tlap
A5: blue b/c it's closest to the mullet... i'm a 80's glam rock fan, and I love that genre because it was 'bigger is better' and 'extreme'
I want my kids to be willing to go 'extreme' without caring what others think #tlap
Q5: Describe which wig best represents your approach to building relationships with your students. #tlap (okay...this one is TOUGH!! Choose another wig if you want. Maybe show us a gif or pic of it???)
A5- Far right. Poppy from Trolls hair. Overwhelm them positive vibes and optimism. And if they are lucky (or from their viewpoint unlucky) might belt out some terrible songs while we work ha. #TLAP
A5: The rainbow wig best represents building student relationships! Students need to know that it’s ok to have different color days. They need to know that we are here for them on their green days and even more so on their blue days! Everyday they matter! #tlap
A5: The "Hawk". Old habits die hard. I'm a Punk Rock kid. In that community, we were all outsiders, so we had to embrace one another. As a result, it's easy to develop relationships with those that feel "disenfranchised". #tlap
Q5: Describe which wig best represents your approach to building relationships with your students. #tlap (okay...this one is TOUGH!! Choose another wig if you want. Maybe show us a gif or pic of it???)
A4: Okay...really trying to stay venture beyond the magical theme, but really.... how can I not choose the wand?! Ha! ✨
We get to sprinkle pixie dustings of positivity, joy, and passion in our schools everyday! #TLAP#MLmagical
A5: I’ll go with the multi- colored wig. Every student and teacher has different needs. You need different skills to help you build relationships. #tlap
A5: umm... I pick option 1 with the hair colors of option 3. Multi colors because no kid is the same and you have to see them as such and crazy hair to represent doing whatver it takes to connect with a kid and get them to feel loved. #tlap
I’m taking the crystal ball, I want to show people what’s possible. I want everyone from kids to admins to parents to walk away with just a little bit of wonder. #TLAP
A5- This one was the easiest for me - wig 3...it makes me think of diversity on many fronts and all coming together...something the world needs a bit more of these days. #tlap
A4: Wig number 3: Embrace our differences- we all are unique and special in our own way. The colors also represent our feelings- validate each other's feelings and emotions on any given day. #tlap

Which costume would best represent the "bottom line" message of this presentation? Why?
#tlap
A5 They know I would just be happy to have hair. 1 because it is a bit wild and crazy but still has some order to it. #tlap we have fun, hang out, but we work hard and have a mutual respect.
A5 I think I would choose #3 The multi coloured hair reminds me of the different learners and all the different cultures and backgrounds of our students #tlap
A5a ha ha already answered this.... sticking with the beehive (lots of hairspray) we build community and stick together - be authentic and remember to laugh #tlap
A5: I’m going with #1. You’ve gotta go big or go home. You’ve gotta show kids that you care about them unconditionally, that you’ll stop at nothing to help them. #tlap
Q5: Describe which wig best represents your approach to building relationships with your students. #tlap (okay...this one is TOUGH!! Choose another wig if you want. Maybe show us a gif or pic of it???)
A6 Mr. Potato Head.
If we place all the necessary pieces during the school day, there won't be any empty spaces aka no need for "home"work.
Also, during the school day, we can guide Ss when they misplace pieces of content.
We need to use our time efficiently at school.
#tlap
A5: Troll wig because I LOVE to sing/dance with my Ss!! So many things we’re working to learn remind me of great song lyrics - and there’s nothing like a great song to help us bond, learn, and grow together! #TLAP
A5: The Mohawk is totally me! In the classroom I like to stand out-- So I'll dress up often, do unique thing likes rap, make animal noises, dance, and work diligently to get works of lit to stand out and light up my #students world! #tlap
I appreciate this answer, Michael.
I'm not a puck rocker per-say but a die hard electric guitar fan!!! I go crazy over them. I play the piano but the electric guitar has my heart. ;)
#tlap
A5: Mad scientist wig. My approach, like the hair on that wig, is all over the place. No two Ss are alike, so they all need different approaches. Plus, some need special handling, like this wig would. #tlap
A5- I will not go rogue this time....and pick 3 because it is the most colorful and I want to celebrate all of the differences in my Ss , applaud what makes them stand out, what makes them different #tlap
Q6 You have been asked to share your desired "homework approach" to the community.
Which costume would best represent the "bottom line" message of this presentation? Why?
#tlap
A6. Superman as our homework purpose is bold as we strive to prepare our kids for anything so it’s doing projects, creating videos, collaborating on work - not the standard worksheet and memorization #tlap
A6: Mohawk because we need to “stand up” for our Ss and not be afraid to bring our bold uniqueness to our schools to create unforgettable learning experiences for our students!
...and rock out a little too!! #TLAP
A6: Like Mr. Potato Head, if you add too many homework items, you will tumble over. It's OK to keep it simple (or have nothing at all!) Balance matters. The right fit matters. Without purpose, you're just a spud. #tlap

A6 Mr. Potato Head... Learning is about pulling the bits and pieces together. Homework is a supplement that can support a learner that needs it, but I am not a fan, or believer of, daily homework, outside of self-selected 20 minutes a day reading. #tlap
Q6 You have been asked to share your desired "homework approach" to the community.
Which costume would best represent the "bottom line" message of this presentation? Why?
#tlap
A6: Mr. Potato Head because he always loses his parts much like some middle school ss always losing their homework. We can't grade things that are not in our control. #TLAP
Some things I want my students to know...
Know who you are
Know you have purpose
Know your strengths
Know your dreams
Know your choices shape your future
Know you matter (you have infinite worth)
Know empathy
Know kindness
Know I’m your biggest fan
#FutureDriven

A6: Mr. Potato Head! As educators we help mold the students in our class but we don’t do it alone! Anyone can add a piece to a child’s life! The pieces they collect outside of school spending time with family and reading together enhance their learning as much as school! #tlap
A6: The invisible man approach - Basically I'll go with the research and that homework has little or no effect on learning so therefore focus on making learning exciting for our kids so they want to learn outside of school ... and read every day #tlap
I am going to agree with Mr. Anderson! Hanging out & pizza instead of homework in grade 2, except for some reading each night that we want students to just enjoy & do for fun!! #TLAP

Crazy, messy blue wig. I try to let my students know that learning is messy and can be crazy fun. And, it looks most like Einstein. I’m a science teacher. #tlap
A6: (To be a rebel again) My homework approach to the community is like the Hulk costume. Generally speaking, I'm "Hulk Smash" when it comes to HW. Occassionally a S might need extra time at home, but I don't design anything to be done specifically AT home. Smash that . #tlap
✨A6✨
POTATO HEAD
Start with the same base instructions and let students unleash their creativity! #XPLAP Side Quests have been a game changer with "homework" in my gamified classroom! #TLAP
#tlap A6: Spiderman because homework for my senior classes include work ethic and time management. Spiderman had to practice his moves everyday so that he could develop better skills. Students have to do these two ideas with their work; it's recursive and practiced everyday.
Thanks for the compliment! I try to be the teacher I wish I had! I had some goods ones, but it is the negative ones that push me to be better, and not go down the road of burnout and fatigue! These #tlap chats are so invigorating!
A6:Michelangelo the Ninja Turtle - home is for home -exploring Your extracurricular passions, getting rest but if for some reason you want to practice or didn’t finish at school you have a built in backpack #tlap
A6: Spider-Man. He webs things together, if we web things in class, “homework” could be having a student tell you colors or letters on road signs... real life applications.
Aka your friendly neighborhood homework.
And cause Spider-Man is my favorite superhero.
#tlap
Q7: Describe which accessory best represents how you SEE the GOOD & TREND the POSITIVE. #tlap (Hmmm...I see how 3 fit...feel free to add an answer for more than one!)
A5: Conquering all daily learning goals so student homework feel invisible but still is there by building daily practices and routines. (this is the dream) #tlap
#tlap A6- hi everyone - sorry Judy saw this chat - sorry to jump in late A6- I would say Mr Potato Head because sometimes kids still need time to be a kid! @RSScrew
A6: I would pick Mr. Potato Head because homework is only reading, but sometimes we change it up like Mr. Potato Head's parts to show our learning. Today students are interviewing their family for a Day of the Dead project. #tlap
A7: The binoculars...look far and wide to find the excellence at your school!! Sometimes it is hiding in plain site. Read my blog about this here: https://t.co/zxgGOpVZlf#tlap
A6- The grim reaper because too often Homework kills students love of learning and school, it too often kills family time, creativity, fun, and authentic learning. #tlap
A6: Mr Potatohead because the parts are interchangeable to create unique learning experiences for every learner!
...and a little silliness thrown in as well!
and it’s a potato and I’m a culinary Tr...so there’s that too! 😜#TLAP
A5: The mohawk. When I Develop relationships, what you see is what you get. And once that trust is there, we will take risks to learn & grow in an outside-of-the-box kind of way! 💪🏻 #tlap
A7: I'm going with the sunglasses, because if we recognize the sparkle in everyone we meet, they will shine so brightly, we will need shades to cover our eyes! #tlap#trendthepositive#passionforkindness#BeTheGood
Q7: Describe which accessory best represents how you SEE the GOOD & TREND the POSITIVE. #tlap (Hmmm...I see how 3 fit...feel free to add an answer for more than one!)
A7) This is my favorite John Wooden story - you get what you look for! If you're intentional about seeing the best in others - that's what you'll find! Binoculars all the way! #tlap
Q7: Describe which accessory best represents how you SEE the GOOD & TREND the POSITIVE. #tlap (Hmmm...I see how 3 fit...feel free to add an answer for more than one!)
A7 easy, magnifying glass. You have to look closely to see the good sometimes and notice when others don't. But then you need to magnify to tell your school's amazing story! #tlap
Q7: Describe which accessory best represents how you SEE the GOOD & TREND the POSITIVE. #tlap (Hmmm...I see how 3 fit...feel free to add an answer for more than one!)
A6: HW for me would be to study mr. potatohead, spiderman and TMNT roles. :)But I give hw with purpose, only if it deepens the learning or is a reflection of something they did in class( lab report) in my flipped class- preparation for class the next day. #tlap
A7: the magnifying glass as you can see close into someone else's perspectives! Sunglasses because things are always better in shades and binoculars because sometimes you have to look into the future for positivity. #tlap
Q7: Describe which accessory best represents how you SEE the GOOD & TREND the POSITIVE. #tlap (Hmmm...I see how 3 fit...feel free to add an answer for more than one!)
A7: Sunglasses! When you see the good and trend the positive you bring light into the life of your students and colleagues! We have the power to make it so bright that they need sunglasses! #tlap
A7: Magnifying glass. It allows you to see the good that others may have missed. I love calling out the positive stuff that goes unnoticed by most, then showering those people with appreciation. Flipside, it helps us see our mistakes and make them right the next time. #tlap
Q7: Describe which accessory best represents how you SEE the GOOD & TREND the POSITIVE. #tlap (Hmmm...I see how 3 fit...feel free to add an answer for more than one!)
A7 The good and positive aren’t far away so the binoculars aren’t needed —so the magnifying Glass it is....then need those sunglasses because when you find the positive it’s stunningly bright! #tlap
Q7: Describe which accessory best represents how you SEE the GOOD & TREND the POSITIVE. #tlap (Hmmm...I see how 3 fit...feel free to add an answer for more than one!)
So, is anyone else surprised @KsCommissioner didn't wear a suit and tie for this? Yeah, us too 🤷♂️🤷♀️Randy & @braddeputy had the fun opportunity to test out 2nd grade boat designs at Rosehill. The students have been studying properties of matter & engineering. #KansansCan
A6: I’m going with Spider-Man because as Uncle Ben tells Peter Parker... “With great power comes great responsibility.” As educators we need to fully understand our responsibility. *If* we assign HW, we better have taught students how to do it & it better be powerful work. #tlap
Q6 You have been asked to share your desired "homework approach" to the community.

A7 ovi the future is bright... Zoom in on the small things bc they are important too, which could be represented by binoculars or the magnifying glass. But, binoculars got that two-way view 👀 #tlap
A7: the sunglasses block out the negative & allow me to see the GOOD even if things are too bright! My trendy glasses draw attention to the positive & I DROP MY GLASSES to give “the look” of approval #tlap
A7: To see the good and trend the positive, I'd choose an accessory like a binoculars and magnifying glass mashup. I want to see all possibilities, both near and far. Don't want to miss ANYTHING. #tlap
A7 The prescription sunglasses... The prescription lens afford clarity, focus and vision... The shades are stylin’ making for a trend setter... The positive comes from your ♥️... You have to feel it to believe it, to live it, to see it, to pass it on... #tlap
Q7: Describe which accessory best represents how you SEE the GOOD & TREND the POSITIVE. #tlap (Hmmm...I see how 3 fit...feel free to add an answer for more than one!)
A7- I will pick the magnifying glass because it is a goal of mine this year to look past peoples faults and try to find their strengths, no matter how hard they may be to see at first glance. #tlap
A6: binoculars because sometimes you have to zoom wayyyy into a kid to pull out their potential, but then once you do you are able to zoom out and refocus, hopefully to the point where eventually you just wear them around your neck cause they have it all in the open to see. #tlap
A7: I love the magnifiying glass. I love seeing that one detail in every student that I love, the unique detail that makes them stand out and magnifying it. #tlap
A7: Sunglasses all the way. I try to always see the positive side of things, the great attributes of people. I like to see solutions, not problems! #tlap
A7: Magnifying glass--I stay laser focused on magnifying the strengths of those around me. Don't get distracted by things that won't bring the impact we are chasing. See the good. See the need. See the whole. See the positive. Be a genius maker. #tlap
Q7: Describe which accessory best represents how you SEE the GOOD & TREND the POSITIVE. #tlap (Hmmm...I see how 3 fit...feel free to add an answer for more than one!)
A7-Sunglasses-students have bright futures. Our job is to help guide them to grow. I want them to sparkle & shine as much as possible. However the magnifying glass allows you to look closer & dig deeper than the eye can see, while binoculars allow you to look farther ahead. #tlap
A7: You can also see the good and trend the positive with the magnifying glass! As teachers, we should pause and look for the small things going on around us that are good! It’s easy to notice the big things but the little things are just as important! #tlap
Want to keep the spooky fun going? Join me as I guide #TeacherMyth crew down the eerily fun path of discovery and self reflection. We might save the world. #tlap
A7: Here in sunny California, I need the sunglasses because that means I’m out of my office, on the playground, walking the outside hallways and seeing all the awesome things that are happening! #tlap
Q7: Describe which accessory best represents how you SEE the GOOD & TREND the POSITIVE. #tlap (Hmmm...I see how 3 fit...feel free to add an answer for more than one!)
A4: I have a wand that helps me bring out the positivity. I often surprise myself with different magical things I come up with to keep the students engaged. #tlap
#TLAP fam! I was put getting the odds and ends for Wednesday’s costume while you all were here having a #TLAP party! I’m so bummed that missed it, but I know I am going to enjoy reading the thread!
Thanks for a great chat @burgessdave@TaraMartinEDU - as always, creative and fun. Hope everyone share kindness tomorrow and everyday in school and we stop the hatred - Not giving up Blog Post: https://t.co/NIVDwnXMwO#tlap
A7: IT depends on the situations. People throw shade often esp when u r going against what they are used to, so sunglasses to block out shade. Magnifying glass to get to know Ts &Ss better-strong relationships. Binoculars to plan for what's coming-proactive vs. reactive. #tlap
A7: You can see the good and trend the positive with the binoculars by looking down the road. We get caught up on what’s happening right in front of us and forget to look in the distance and see where the road is taking us! Learning is a journey, a path we travel on! #tlap
Thanks for joining #TLAP tonight!! Can’t wait to read the feed later! Thanks to @TaraMartinEDU for helping run the show while I hang with @burgessashlyn1 tonight for dinner and a scary movie!!! Rocking some #kidsdeserveit by the way!

PS I loved the rogue answers, too. Let's face it--we are PIRATES!
Have a ROCKIN' week and a Happy Halloween!
Keep a look out for the #DBCchallenge & the November @dbc_inc eNews!
A7: magnifying glass. I like to take time to look at things carefully and see the fine details whether it be getting to know my students better or identifying ways I can be a better teacher. #tlap
