New Twitter chatters: format is Q1: “question here”. You replay with A1: "your response". Don't forget to include :)
hey! You look familiar ;)
Question 1 will be up on deck in 3,2,1
Q1: Are u planning to dedicate time to professional development this summer? If so what do u have lined up? https://t.co/rqNIlTpMmv
we've been hanging in the same PD chat circles this week :)
A1: Absolutely. My PLT and I are doing it in terms of redesigning our courses and how we teach them and finding out best practices.
Awe...this is interesting. So you are doing it as a team? That's cool!
A1: We'll also be using PD time to belong Google certified educators and use Google for 80%+ of our instruction.
A1: PBL in Napa, complex instruction in Seattle, blogging, planning, Twitter, , video to improve teacher practice
A1: Yes. Have to rewrite my science books (new grades) and focus on VR (virtual reality) tech.
Yes we're developing the courses over the summer. Same content, just rethinking engagement and instruction.
A1: Aside from reading, I'll be attending a technology conference.
A1- oh and tons of Twitter, of course 😉
Whoa!!! That's a ton of summer PD! Would love to know more about your complex instruction PD?
A1: I'll also be getting my Level 2 Google Certified Educator badge with a few colleagues.
I like that...never let it get stale or irrelevant. So great to reboot in the Summer!
A1: Being yr round it makes it more like business as usual. Mostly done after ads go home. The 3 week break is mostly mine.
Same here! Brought the idea to my PLT this year and we're doing Level 1 and 2 over the summer. Awesome stuff!
That is fantastic! So you are leading some PD too? Yay!
I'm planning a level 1 boot camp for some teachers I work with! Good luck on level two!
A1: Ill be getting my Google Certified Educator Badges and reading PD texts all summer: prep for AP Lang!
Welcome back! Great to have you join us!
yes, I lead all tech PD in my district! And I'm presenting at 3 tech conferences this summer!
Wow!!! This is really amazing! Sounds like you also have a ton going on!
How great is that! You didn't mention ISTE...will you be there? Any one else going to
That I do but teaching APLang for the first time is a bit daunting
I found that people are more willing to go for it in groups!
Awe...ok. That is true. You will need to take time to prep for that for sure.
No, not this year unfortunately :(
It's a workshop through UW https://t.co/vMZ1PwlPEq I have fellowship money & am taking a couple of math teachers with
Yes PD all summer long Leading Edge Certification, Free Google Courses and reading up on Google Classroom

How cool is that!! I will check it out!
Oh wow! Sounds so great!!
A2: gonna try to embrace work life integration (vs to he balance that by) but t not be a workaholic. We will see.
Question 2 will be up on deck in 3,2,1
Q2: What opportunities for learning does the summer offer that may not be possible during the
school year? https://t.co/4KiysIIUxF
A1) I am moving schools, most likely. A great opportunity to re-evaluate my practice over the summer
Always important to re-imagine lessons, activities, and even ideas
Awe...this is going to be a summer of great transformation for you. :) Love it!
at least as cool as Nashville, Finland, Den. &SFO were for a 3rd of my school Ts rock
at least as cool as Nashville, Finland, Den. &SFO were for a 3rd of my school Ts rock
Really looking forward to it. Just the thing to re-spark that engagement
A2: There's never enough so we have a little more of that.
Hope it's not too late to join.
A2: TIME!!!! And the ability to cater PD to what specifically interests me. Summer is when I have fun with learning!
That is amazing to hear. Always great to learn ways on how Ts can be more self-reflexive.
A2: change of environment, travel, museums, outdoor stuff, no routine read a book by the lake, listen to a podcast on a hike...
A2: TIME. Aside from summer practice for sports, I have a lot of time to be about to plan, read, learn, and reflect.
you teach in a year-round school?
Yes...its a joy to have that extra tine for sure!! https://t.co/U8uqIe4uaL
A2: There's never enough so we have a little more of that.
Tasha Jefferson from OK, first grade
Awe...such a great idea! And will be in an upcoming question! https://t.co/4HADI4356j
A2: change of environment, travel, museums, outdoor stuff, no routine read a book by the lake, listen to a podcast on a hike...
A2: TIME. Aside from summer practice for sports, I have a lot of time to be able to plan, read, learn, and reflect.
You are all on the same summer wave length...with Time being the key! Let's chat Q3!
A2: Summer allows time to focus & sleep in as well.
Q3:Can libraries, museums, or other community resources contribute to professional development? Yes/No? How?
A2 I am clearing my credential.
A2) Purging your classroom is an opportunity for learning that every teacher should do at the beginning of summer break
I plan to be participate in EdmodoCon and a writing PD (I need to find one online)
Oh! This is very important!!
That's awesome! https://t.co/LJbYBC9CzM
I plan to be participate in EdmodoCon and a writing PD (I need to find one online)
Yes! Un-plug and recharge that battery. Learn in your unique way. That is crucial
Lots of good things going on with and tonight. Kudos to and .
a2) Un-plugging as a teacher is key to the summer break and provides an opportunity to learn when the time is right
A3: They can always be sources of inspiration!
A3: Absolutely. We partner with our local library year round. A great STEM camp for Ts w our businesses and sci museum
A3: Love the idea of visiting museums that I seem not to have time for. Gather great resources and share them out with my Uni class.
Very cool! https://t.co/zGL3Onajjf
A3: Absolutely. We partner with our local library year round. A great STEM camp for Ts w our businesses and sci museum
A3: VT has lots of great local events put on by libraries; strange talks on animal life or environmental issues
A3: Museums have teacher discounts, Free online courses to refresh , conferences the list is endless.
Powerful professional learning can happen through local library/museum/community events & other informal (organic) meet-ups.
A3: As a SS person, I love visiting historical locations in the summer. So many opportunities to learn from the source!
A3: I prefer Best Buy and hardware store. I wish I weren't serious.
any suggestions on writing PDs?
Yes... important to get out and enjoy the outdoors. Walking, poolside, beach, park, mountains. All vital. https://t.co/mmHrB64S8m
a2) Un-plugging as a teacher is key to the summer break and provides an opportunity to learn when the time is right
LOL! I think thats absolutely fine!
A3: Also, music, art & other events offer opportunities to stretch our thinking, mix subjects or process
A3) Yes. All experience is learning. Traditional schooling tries to tell us otherwise. But they are wrong
A3:I think we just need a change a scenery & time to reflect. We usually have digital access to PD, but just need change of scenery.
A3- best summer of I had as a T was colonial williamsburg's teacher institute! Was sooo awesome!
This yr I rented an airbnb 4 us during a training & the conversations that took place...I highly recommend mixing it up
A3 I love exploring my city and making connections. Partnerships with experts have really enhanced my instruction.
You all have some great ideas on ways to do non traditional Summer PD. Love it!
Q4: As a new teacher does pressure to secure a position, negatively impact wanting to participate in summer learning opportunities?
A4) Interesting question. Never thought of it like that. Curious to read some responses https://t.co/e8fJIRjZ1j
Q4: As a new teacher does pressure to secure a position, negatively impact wanting to participate in summer learning opportunities?
A3 building relationships with community partners, libraries; expanding knowledge through museums is always beneficial
A3: I plan on finding the deeper meaning and altruistic qualities of the 3 day park hopper as well.
A4- as a new T, I didn't have too much knowledge about PD to be honest. I was just worried about getting a job!
A4: Interviewing new T's as a former principal I was told by many that they had no time for summer PD. Job was #1 priority. :(
Yes. I also think, if you did you would feel inclined to go, learn, and network
But wouldn't they want to take summer PD to learn and network?
Yep... that's what I just shared as well. So hard for New T's...but On-line PD can be a work around. https://t.co/YrbTMKCo08
A4- as a new T, I didn't have too much knowledge about PD to be honest. I was just worried about getting a job!
PD would be a great way to network and meet prospective employers.
I would have hoped...but at the time most seemed SO stressed. Not really looking at the networking value.
I think these guys r only doing this every other year now but it was amazing u might like it https://t.co/SM0PE0YFaV
A4: Before I got my 1st contract, all I did as PD. It helped me network and prep.
A4 local PDs can be expensive. I wonder why...
Yes! Now we have more options that Pre-serve T's should take advantage of...like ! https://t.co/6SfXWgEEng
PD would be a great way to network and meet prospective employers.
A4: Depends. Is your employers following you on Twitter. Delete delete.
Amen to that! Good for you! https://t.co/2Zx4HhvWvK
A4: Before I got my 1st contract, all I did as PD. It helped me network and prep.
maybe, I don't know! I think I had tunnel vision! Just getting out of college & feeling like the learning was done!
My perspective has changed since then ;)
A4: No,I believe it pushes U 2better prepare yourself.As a new teacher U need standout in the crowd https://t.co/D3XR9S7QYj

A4: I think summer is more semantics. I do slow down but it never turns off.
Yes! Registration can be $400 or more! That expense is difficult 4 someone who doesn't have a job yet! https://t.co/kTKX6NYVRL
A4 local PDs can be expensive. I wonder why...
Q5 How will you curate the learning you do this summer? Wiki, blog, evernote, pinterest, clipboard? https://t.co/WvLilU3No1
