Hi from WI. Looking forward to seeing where our conversation goes tonight!
I'm doing well this week! How are you Tammy?
. Ramona, so glad you are here. Let us know how we can assist you.
. I'm FANTASTIC! Just had a great school board meeting where some of my students were honored.
Hey, Bill! Doing well. How are you?
. Bill! So glad to see you. I'm great. How are you?
As introductions continue, I want to welcome you all to Tonight we will be doing this edcamp style. What's on your mind?
Tina from TN, setting up my tent for the camp tonight on
Hey Tina! Thanks for joining us tonight.
Now I want to make some s'mores!
. Thx Robin! ready for the bonfire & smores :-)
great minds!! just typed .that as you tweeted :-)
I'm well, thanks. Glad you both are. Caught up in end-of-trimester rush here.
. saw the video earlier! very cool!!
I hadn't seen that yet. What a brilliant marketing idea for them.
What other brilliant things are happening in your classes?
(Yes, please brag!)
I've been wondering how to incorporate Google Cardboard or VR viewers into my class, haven't done enough research yet
. I want our Ag kids to make their own "tours" while they are in the field. Tell us what they see.
I have Ss use to design a 3D home. Have some 6th graders that added garage, stairs, deck, & landscaping. They rock!!
. dabbled, envision reading @ landmark/history/geog&usingVR viewers to "see" it in life to add to the experience
My kids designed a unit on persuasion - currently preparing for an Oregon Cross-Examination debate in two-person teams.
thats a great idea! Some Ss in SD have never left the state
. a science Ts that wants Ss to create VR lab experiments
Wow, I want to be a student in & classrooms. They have lots of great ideas.
Today our freshmen presented their National History Day projects to local university students for feedback in the library.
This is week. Are your schools celebrating? How?
AWESOME! What a great experience for both groups of Ss. What did the freshmen think of the experience?
Yep! I think tomorrow might be Drive Your Tractor to school day?
. same for TN!,VR wld enable Ss to experience areas they may never go&connect educ to world
This is the first I've heard of it, I don't know if my school is celebrating or not.
I think they actually enjoyed hearing from other voices besides ours! The rapport was fantastic.
I can't tell if you're joking or not, haha!
. I think that's great! I'm going to share that idea with our Ag teacher.
Thank you - although to be fair, this was a kid-designed unit from the ground up.
I can imagine! What a wonderful atmosphere it must have been.
Ag Science open house today. Ss were thrilled to learn about opportunities https://t.co/gdXTBhQWXL
This is week. Are your schools celebrating? How?
How do you fund iPods for VR in a rural area w/ not $
. I encourage Ss to download free app and use their own devices. That way they can create their own at home.
Totally serious. It might be Friday but I'll post pics here!
. what about Ss w/o devices?? we have tons w/o them
. I use the google cardboard app and the camera app that goes with it.
. Students share or use the 1 I have in class. Take turns.
Ts use it but I've not,I recently acquired 30 cardboards, like to have 30 ipods to send to Ts to exp
Ask community for older smart devices, set them up w/ generic acct & download EDU apps on them
. been suggesting that but some Ts are reluctant to use their own devices
. I understand that. When I upgrade my phone, I wipe out the old stuff and bring it in.
me too, also tried out Jurassic VR&IN VR, just found YouVisit VR but havent tried it yet
I will have to check those out. Thanks.
great idea! haven't tried this!!
So it feels funny to think we r rounding bend on the last mos of the school yr. What's something u want to accomplish by then?
I'm hoping my students really take to the individualized learning that we're doing right now. Taking time to change direction.
I want to suck the (Vegan) marrow out of every moment with my kids. I want to be in awe of their growth, individuals/groups.
I want to revel in their presentations and performances. I want to help them when they stumble and cheer them when they fly.
I love the imagery you have conjured up.
I hope that I get to know the rest of the students in our middle school in the last trimester.
I wasnt to start developing a tutorial repository #
I want to know we're returning a strong community next year ready to welcome in the new kids and kick off 2016-2017 well.
I want to start developing...typo's galore!
As this is edcamp style, I'm going to give a pitch for here in FL on April 23rd.
I have a few of those created but there are so many needs for more! Great idea!
Here in FL, Coding may become equivalent to a foreign language. What's happening in your areas/states?
As someone with an M.A.T. in French, can I say that really upsets me? My school offers Chinese/French/Spanish.
. my schools aren't coding (other than hs class) but my friends in larger cities are
I wish!!! Nothing so powerful here in SD. More schools signed up for the hour of code though
. I can understand that. I think coding should be in its own category like performing arts.
. Actually, I wish it were Computer Science instead of specifically coding.
I'm proud of our high school Ss who are mentoring middle school Ss in coding and developing simple programs in our makerspace.
I do think coding's important, but it can't raise awareness of multiple cultures/perspectives, help decenter oneself.
I agree. Coding as an option alongside computer science and other STE(A)M courses.
In some places it is counting for a math/science credit, that one seems logical to me
that's where I think design thinking can come into play & push development in2 problem-solving for great goods.
Both of those are really important - sounds great! Are girls getting involved in your school?
That makes much more sense to me, yes.
I'd say that's one of my goals for end of the year. Girls are definitely underrep'd in our space.
merp...I meant "greater good."
Sounds like a great goal. is one great resource. I think ' website has resources.
As we near the end of our hour, I want you to know how amazing you all are. I've got lots of things to check out.
I think agriculture needs to be into STEAM too. Organic food is SO in right now.
Yes. Thank you to everyone who joined in and connected tonight. Wishing you all great rest of the week!
Thank you both and all of . Bye!
Bill, it was a great chat. Thank you for stopping by.
