Hello everyone! I'm Nadia, Digital Learning Coordinator for the Cobb County School District.
There were so many great commercials this year, but the @OlaySkin one was hilarious.

#TechTalkGA Q1: Curt Hitchens, Computer Science teacher in Walker County, GA, I wasn't impressed with any of the Super Bowl commercials. I studied for the instructional technology GACE instead.

As we increased devices, our schools stepped up the plate and got #digcit certified by @CommonSenseEd.
Our teachers are also getting better at spotting spam emails because they immediately notify us.
This topic truly "takes a village"
#TECHtalkGA A2:
We have a big push right now for making teachers aware of the need to protect student privacy and to encourage smart online decisions with students.
One way that we do this is with a new tool from @EdFramework that helps Ts easily eval sites & tools.

A2: While there are so many opportunities that come from the internet, as educators, our district does see importance in keeping students as safe as possible online when on campus. I know this from first-hand work and from observations of internal policies.

Tons of filtering, firewall protections, and Google Admin user/device restrictions. The best advantage that we have? Our teachers. Invest in them with Google Certifications, 1 on 1 coaching, and timely support.
#TECHtalkGA A3:
In addition to using tools like Ed Frameworks, we also have implemented a K-12 Digital Citizenship curriculum involving EVERYONE: Ts, Ss, admin, MSs, ITSs, Ps, counselors.
We're also looking at another tool for next yr that will help us monitor BYOT devices.

Isn't that the truth?!
We can't be there all the time, so we have to teach them what to look for, how to react.
It's kinda like how we raise our kids LOL

#TechTalkGA A3: I use Apple Remote Desktop to monitor computers. We also encourage teachers to stick with the guidelines in the AUP regarding image and video searches. I also like to use https://t.co/wiP4QEuTj2 to remove related content from YouTube videos.

That's really really hard. Where the school house ends can be a sticky answer. We take home and filter devices 9-12. Unless the "after school time" creates a large disturbance in the school, we don't address it.
#TECHtalkGA A4:
Outside of school is tough. This is where the rubber meets the road re: dig cit.
If Ss have really learned the lessons, it helps. If it's just compliance, then we have to start thinking about consequences, especially if it interferes with the school day.
A4: That's a big question! I have seen many different methods in addition to teaching digital literacy, and wonder what ultimately is the most effective way.
Looking forward to learning from the other answers.

#TechTalkGA A4: On at least two occasions, we've had GBI agents visit our middle school students to discuss cyber safety and appropriate online behavior. Many of our kids are clueless about the consequences of some of their actions.
Sadly, I can imagine that's so. I also feel that many parents probably don't know what to teach their children about the consequences of their digital actions (especially since so many adults don't quite know what to do themselves).

Ransomware and data breaches are becoming common place, which is not a good sign.
Upcoming is the weaponization of AI and Quantum computers that can hack anything.
#TECHtalkGA A5:
I think what we've seen already mentioned here: a lack of understanding.
They think if their account is private, they're safe. Or if it's 1:1 (texting, DM, etc.), or in their home (smart devices).
Everything digital opens a door, and not always to friends.
Great chat tonight, #TECHtalkGA! Thanks to everyone who participated! Fill out the form below to make sure you get tagged as a reminder next week!

#TechTalkGA A5: I think the biggest cyber threat will focus on our students' personal information. I know this is a hot topic in districts throughout GA currently. There seems to be a lot of gray areas and some very limiting state regulations.
#TECHtalkGA
Exactly. It's a matter of when, not if. Advocate for recovery plans, check insurance policies, educate people on cybersecurity, and have internal/external audits of your network.

A5: I think a bigger threat is determining reality, in many forms. Is this email/link from someone I can trust? Is this post shared by someone with an agenda. Are these real feelings or manipulations engineered? #TECHtalkGA
That's a skill that can't be emphasized enough, to Ss as well as to adults.
Possibly even more to adults, who sometimes they know enough that they don't need to look with a critical eye anymore.
#TECHtalkGA
Thanks so much to @edtechteach3 who volunteered to host #TECHtalkGA tonight when I forgot it was Monday & realized I had no topic LOL!
See y'all next week to workshop what we're working on: come prepared to share success, struggle, & strategies (HT to @gillianriley00)!
