The first Twitter edchat in the Philippines, helping teachers grow their PLN, use tech in the classroom and promoting a culture of teachers helping teachers.
Thanks for sharing your insights in order to create a wonderful chat! A special thanks also goes out to @pdelrosario17 for co-moderating and @ginoloko for organizing the chat each week! #edchatPH
Indeed. Also, school leadership should play a big role in this. Lead by example. Showcase it. Celebrate it. Underline it whenever they can. Talk about it. Thats the only way teachers and eventually students know how to engage with it. #edchatph
Hi Anna the very reason I share how my class is via @Seesaw with them and they totally appreciate it. they need to be involved and immersed as well in the learning process. #edchatPH
This is such a powerful point, Michael! If we want our students to be learners, inquirers, and thoughtful risk-takers, we have to be those things, too! #edchatPH
A4: When we deviate from our preferred methods of assessment -- tests, etc. -- to allow Ss to use their prerequisite skills to demonstrate understanding, joy in the learning process can take place. To do this, it will take everyone stepping out of their comfort zones. #edchatph

Absolutely agree. One thing that always saddens me in schools is closed doors. Not just physically but mentally. We need to be able to have a peek at each others practice, communicate and grow together. #edchatPH

Exactly! Keep them involved and part of the process- relationships with everyone is key. Being open and honest is modelling a skill we want our Ss to have too. Communication tools! (Love @Seesaw! ) #edchatPH

We must be models of positive risk-taking for our students if we desire to see them reach their true potential. If we take the "safe bet" all the time, our students will follow suit. Low risk = low reward. #edchatph

Good golly. The house boiled over! That's why I was so spotty during the chat. Total disaster! My daughter did not listen to my wife and my wife didn't listen to my daughter. I got caught in the crossfire. Exhausted. #edchatph

So true- admitting you fail and are human is incredibly powerful to both Ss and parents, I find the support and share in success so much better! #edchatPH

Yet you still gave such incredibly powerful insights! Is your daughter your eldest? As a middle school educator, I say: welcome to adolescence! π Fasten your seatbelt, it's a wild ride! (But it's filled with lots of beauty and learning, too!) #edchatPH

That mental aspect can be debilitating for authentic collaboration.

Going on 13. She's great, but neither of them listened to the other. She's ultra-sensitive so we decided a while back that it was a NO...for now. Maybe next summer. #edchatph

It is intense...so I totally get your decision. I enjoy it as an adult, but I'd wait a bit to show my kids, too. Even if she's upset in the moment, she knows you care. π #edchatPH

All good now. While my daughter and wife were screaming at each other, I noticed that my wife had a post-it on the back of her pants. Laughed at them both. Took the edge off of the matter quickly. #edchatph

Agree. Part of the reason why teachers often leave a school too. One of the best ways to retain talent in schools is to open doors, enable better collaboration and create a platform of constant innovation - in and outside the classroom. #edchatPH
Woah. All this reflection has tired me out. Itβs almost 9PM in Wisconsin. Iβm off to fall asleep in front of @OfficialLivePD. Thank you new teacher family and happy Friday! #edchatPH#engagechat#LivePDNation
#edchatph Haha..interesting metaphor. But I have seen from experience that kids dont stop learning. They cant, as humans. If they are disengaged with our class content then we know the static is not their learning, but our teaching. So we are the ones with mosquito issues. :)

A2: Remember the stories they tell you and refer to them from time to time. Show them you cared enough to listen to and remember their stories! #edchatPH@Mrs_Gilchrist
