Hi everyone! My name is Caroline and I am a pre-practicum teacher studying English and secondary education at Lesley University. I am really excited to hear what everyone has to say tonight! #COLchat

A1. Knowing that you made someone else feel good about themselves or an accomplishment they had is a good feeling. We should all remember to do it more often! We all have the “super” power to make someone’s day! #COLchat
A1 it means everything! No matter how i feel when i get to my room, i have to give everything i have to my Ss. Usually feel great about 10 minutes into teaching #COLchat

A1. This reminds me to surround myself with good people. Laughter is the best medicine and life isn’t always easy but being there for one another is what a team is all about. #COLchat

Q1: As educators, we not only have the opportunity to make our students day a little brighter, but our co-teachers as well! As a result of making the community a happier place, I find learning is much more conducive. #COLchat
A2. What we do in education is so very important. We all depend on each other (staff, students, families). We are a team and when everyone sees their teammate giving it their all they too have the desire to do their part. You don’t want to let each other down. #COLchat

Q2. I believe self-check ins and insuring we take care of ourselves (physically and emotionally) is huge. How can we be there for our students and the community if we aren't taking care of ourselves? #COLchat
A2: By developing genuine relationships with those who matter in our work: students, families, colleagues, etc. The more we know and connect with them, the more we care about them, and giving our best becomes a given #COLchat

A3. When we are negative we can find flaw in anything. Being able to find the good in someone or something comes from our willingness to be positive and when we are positive we are at our best. Did I just use the word positive too much? I think I did. #COLchat
A3 I always try to assume positive intentions. I have to imagine that everyone is doing the best they can and it’s my job to support them and coach them if they are failing #COLchat
A3: Positivity is a mindset, and sometimes, it needs to be an intentional choice. WE can choose to look for the best, and after a while, it becomes a habit. #COLchat

A3: Through taking the time to really know others, I believe we also learn more about ourselves. I'm grateful that my students have always had diverse perspectives that I have 100% learned from! #COLchat
Agree! "Assume the best" has become my personal mantra. It makes it so much easier to develop genuine and positive relationships with those around me, which in turn makes it easier to be my best self for others #COLchat

A4. I have known and still do know teachers and leaders who have given a great deal of their “light” to others. I’ve seen teachers devoting every oz. of light they have in order to see their students shine and colleagues who give their best for fellow colleagues 2 shine. #COLchat
A4 when I Ss taught, co op Ts pointed out what he was learning from me. 1st yr teaching had a great princiPal who found ways to let me lead. Both inspired me n showed me what leadership is #COLchat
A4. I have seen countless teachers give extra time and resources with no "pay" in order to better their students. In response, they have said the success and gratitude from their students was pay itself. #COLchat
A4: Have had the pleasure to work with many educators who give of themselves selflessly so that students get the care and support they need - even when it's not convenient. #COLchat
A4: Not sure how I feel about this quote. It encourages something great teachers experience: burnout. An alternate analogy: teachers should find ways to practice self care and ensure that their passion continues to reignite their own flame in order to light others #COLchat
A5. Allowing others to share their ideas and entrusting fellow team members with opportunities to lead. Our school is made up of many talented students and adults. I’d be a fool to think most of our best ideas didn’t come from the team. Others can and should lead. #COLchat

A5. Let go of the control and go with the flow at times. Part of being a leader is knowing that your team has many talented people who each specialize in various areas. Let them shine. #COLchat

A5 struggle w this one. I know i have a positive impact on Ss, need to do more to bring my strengths to the staff n recongize n develop what i bring #COLchat
Through empowering others we empower ourselves! There are countless lessons and perspectives to learn from others, and as teachers we can always improve our own practice. #COLChat#perspectiveiskey
A5: Making students center stage in the classroom. Similar concept when coaching teachers. Focus on asking the right questions and encouraging others to find their voice, rather than simply dispersing information. #COLchat
A6. I have worked with and for people who I have admired for their work ethic and leadership. The greatness you see in them can be the fuel for your own fire. It can be contagious. #COLchat
A6: I think that giving respect and knowing each student personally is a great way to raise the bar. The "bar" is different for each student, and we must respect and understand each student as the unique individual they are! #COLchat
A6: When we raise the floor, we can raise the bar even higher! Just as we do with students, scaffold and support and for ourselves . . . stand on the shoulders of giants. #COLchat
That is the kind of team and leadership teachers deserve. You can’t fear making a mistake. You will make mistakes. Lessons will fail and so will other plans at times. #COLchat
A6 helping others change their perspective on what can be accomplished ....“raise the bar so high the bar is scared to look down” pharoahe monch #COLchat
A6: Time, practice, skill, confidence in yourself as a leader, and mostly genuine dedication to and belief in the people you serve or work with. #COLchat

You are so correct in this. At times I know I probably give too much information rather than just let someone run with an idea. Thanks for the reminder! #COLchat

Agreed! There is such a human element to this response, and it's necessary for leaders to recognize this. I think recognizing that we're all constantly growing is part of what makes leaders great and allows them to form genuine relationships with those they serve. #COLchat
A7. Through our relationships and communication we can realize the dreams in others. Once we know this valuable info, we can specifically target our time we devote to them in order to see them succeed. #COLchat
A7: Making sure to take time out of our crazy schedule to speak with each student (and/or faculty) about their aspirations and goals so we can encourage them and assist them along the way #COLchat
Q8: TAKE ACTION: What will “leading from the back” look like for you this week? Identify a situation in which you may be able to step back and allow somebody else to shine. #COLchat
Agreed! I think the amount of reflection inherent in this process is necessary not only to identifying the dreams of others, but also building the authentic relationship that will allow you to care about seeing them succeed. #COLchat
A8. Looking forward to hearing some great ideas on ways to improve Culture and Climate and PBIS strategies in our staff meeting this week. I know we have people on board who want to lead this initiative. Looking forward to their ideas and leadership! #COLchat
Q8: TAKE ACTION: What will “leading from the back” look like for you this week? Identify a situation in which you may be able to step back and allow somebody else to shine. #COLchat
A7: I think this starts with building an authentic relationship with someone. They would need to trust you enough to share their dreams, and you would need to know them well enough to determine what achieving that dream would mean and what it would look like #COLchat
This is time well spent. It is so easy to get bogged down in the monotonous busy work we can consume ourselves with. Have to get out in the classrooms, hallways, cafes…...where the true meaningful work is! #COLchat
Introducing #CoLchat FRIDAY FOLLOW UP:
There is strength in being accountable to each other. Look for a #COLchat accountability prompt Friday night at 9PM EST, so we can all share and celebrate a success from this week - some way we helped somebody else be their best.
For many of these students just listening to them and allowing them to share their ideas with you is a game changer. Our students have much to say….Even those who are the quietest. #COLchat
A8: Although I don't yet have my own classroom, in my student teaching placement this week I will insure my students voice their opinions through posing open ended questions to their fellow students. I know they will have great Q's and insight! #COLchat
Thanks for chatting with us tonight in #COLchat. As always it has been great learning with you! Looking forward to chatting with you on October 1st at 9pm EST.
Music is such an awesome for of expression! Our kids need the arts and the value it brings to their lives and education is astounding! It's great to have a music teacher here tonight! #COLchat
Q8: TAKE ACTION: What will “leading from the back” look like for you this week? Identify a situation in which you may be able to step back and allow somebody else to shine. #COLchat
I love this idea! We will not only be holding each other accountable, but simultaneously supporting each other through ups and downs. #COLchat#FridayFollowUp
Building trust is so important! It takes so much time and for those that need our relationship the most it can take even longer…..Once we have that trust and positive relationship though, great things will happen. #COLchat
Caroline, your time spent learning with other educators tonight is a testament to the dedication you have. I have no doubt that you are an awesome teacher and are going to make extraordinary impacts on children for many years to come! I’ve enjoyed learning from you! #COLchat
