  • educationhall Nov 14 @ 9:09 PM EST
A1: Just like a sports coach helps someone else (or a team) to win, coaching in education does the same: it leads folks to WIN (however we describe that). #OHedchat #educoach
  • MrWellsScience Nov 14 @ 9:09 PM EST

A1: coaching is to give perspective. As a player(teacher) you see a snapshot but as a coach you see the bigger picture and hope to guide your players toward success with the right feedback. #ohedchat
  • edtechgirl Nov 14 @ 9:11 PM EST
A1: I coached swimming for 10 years - it was all about being the eyes on the side of the pool. Coaches see the WHOLE picture, and help break that down into approachable pieces that can be practiced and refined. #ohedchat
  • TebnerEbner Nov 14 @ 9:11 PM EST

  • RachelLeForce Nov 14 @ 9:18 PM EST
A1 to coach others in education means to empower through partnership and goal setting to positively impact instructional strategies and student achievement. #OHedchat
  • TebnerEbner Nov 14 @ 9:18 PM EST
A2: A good coach has to have observational skills and excellent listening skills. I may know lots about something, but I have to be able to tailor support to the needs of the person I’m coaching. #ohedchat
  • roberthoon13 Nov 14 @ 9:18 PM EST
A2: coaches must be effective observers and listeners. Must be able to create a dialogue and relationship built on trust. Perhaps, most significantly, must be a “we” approach, not “you.” #OhEdChat
  • RyanShuping Nov 14 @ 9:18 PM EST

  • MrWellsScience Nov 14 @ 9:19 PM EST

  • _SMasters Nov 14 @ 9:19 PM EST
#ohedchat awesome stuff so far. Going to have to read up on it later. I am really interesting in instructional coaching as a potential future move. I love helping others finding their own new highest achievement. But, family is calling.
  • AlyseConsiglio Nov 14 @ 9:19 PM EST
A2) A big toolbox. When a teacher has an idea but needs the logistics or the right strategy...being able to pull something appropriate out of my toolbox is the most helpful/practical for them. #ohedchat

  • KathyPerret Nov 14 @ 9:21 PM EST
A2 One of the best complements I received that speaks to the skills needed ... Teachers told me I never lost the "Teacher" in me. They mentioned I knew when to push and when to pull back. They appreciated that I understood their busy times. #educoach #ohedchat

Agreed. Unfortunately "roll outs" of coaching can cause a lot of problems especially when TRUE COACHING is not understood. #educoach #ohedchat Build coaching programs together with Ts, not for them. Build Together and they will STAY is my motto! #educoach #ohedchat

A4: Communication is key. Anyone in a leadership position should be constantly receiving feedback on what the teachers need, what the teachers are seeing, and how students are responding to interventions/programs. #ohedchat
  • educationhall Nov 14 @ 9:35 PM EST
A4: Set aside time to talk about, define, and describe the role of instructional coach together. This is perhaps the single most overlooked and underappreciated strategies to help the work find its happy place. #educoach #OHedchat

RT Q4: What strategies can we use to overcome the challenges in instructional coaching #ohedchat
  • educationhall Nov 14 @ 9:37 PM EST
A4: Another is time management. Coaches can't be everything to everybody, so we have to prioritize our efforts. Work in cycles. Help teachers identify next-steps, then let 'em get after it...and return with strategic follow-through on a schedule. #educoach #OHedchat
  • tyarnold18 Nov 14 @ 9:37 PM EST

  • educationhall Nov 14 @ 9:37 PM EST
A4: Probably my favorite: Coach for reflective growth. Help teachers THINK differently about their work, their goals, their impact. When we focus on how our teachers reflect, the impact will last far longer than any skill or task. #educoach #OHedchat
  • KathyPerret Nov 14 @ 9:38 PM EST
