Hey friends, I'm not sure if our #dojochat host is making it tonight... we may not be the expert in this topic, but we're happy to stick around and chat... thoughts? Hate to let you all down, especially the newbies joining us for the first time. 😢
If we are talking fund raisers for our classroom, nothing beats @donorschoose We have gotten devices from every platform through this fantastic company! #dojochat
I don’t have much experience with fundraising, but we like to have our students pick a charity to donate to every December. Instead of buying gifts, they donate money or supplies! #dojochat
For those of you joining for the first time, we have a little hiccup, with out host not making it. So we're doing #dojochat on the fly! Ask anything, share your knowledge 🙌
Hello everyone! My name is Eric Cushman and I am a business major at Chapman University. I want to work for NPO's after graduation. I am eager to learn how schools fundraise! #dojochat
I agree with the post about DonorsChoose; best way to get the much needed supplies. I just had one go live yesterday morning and then fully funded in an hour. @DonorsChoose#dojochat
I'm here to chat! We don't do much fundraising with the kids, but I currently am fundraising for my town's library system as part of my Boston Marathon charity team! #dojochat

I feel like marathons are a great way to fundraise! It is an easy way to get the whole family and community together for a common goal as well as the health benefits. #dojochat
I do t know all of the regulations, but I do know that ask about percentage at poverty or getting free and reduced lunch. My school is @98%, so we qualify. #dojochat

My preschool had a wonderful carnival fundraiser this past week! We sold tickets which allowed students and families to play games. Love it because it raises money, and family bonding :) #dojochat
#dojochat Our school Foundation does a yearly fund raiser of a Fun Run. We used to use a company until parents decided that we could make 100% profit by doing it ourselves!
I just ran one during our staff meeting; we had three games going simultaneously, all the same game – just smaller groups. It’s so surprising that adults cannot break out. The kids collaborate so much better! #dojochat

At my previous school I was the cheer coach. We would put on a dance every year as a fundraiser. It helped fund new uniforms and other supplies. #dojochat
That reminds me of my middle school throwing an event in spring called HayDay, selling tickets for carnival games and snack foods. All the profits going back to the students and new supplies. #dojochat
#dojochat With the company we made less than 50%. Now that we are doing it ourselves, not only is it 100% profit, but we have less pressure from kids to win prizes and we are making about the same amount as with that company.
my funded projects:
Bookshelves and book boxes; costumes and supplies to have a colonial fair; podcasting equipment; robotics equipment including Spheros, Cubelers, and LittleBits; supplies for a Fine Arts club; wiggle seats; basic supplies; and stuff for my Makerspace #dojochat
#dojochat YES, when we paired with Mostly Mutts Shelter, they sent a representative with a sweet pup to our Fall Fesitval who then is responsible for any monetary donations. What a great chance to help our community and some sweet homeless pups!
#dojochat Writing grants also allows for funds to be secured. Our amazing STEM Lab teacher @colleencauffiel wrote a grant to allow us to be trained through EIE Engineering is Elementary. It was a great experience for our entire staff (among other grants successfully secured).
Social media. I have very kind friends. And there are a few people that must be very wealthy that continuously donate to projects from our district. #dojochat
#dojochat We are the first elementary school earning STEM certification in our county due to the amazing efforts of @colleencauffiel and other amazing teachers at our school!
Every time a “stranger” donates to my project I am blown away by the kindness people show. If you’re ever looking for good in the world, look right at those people who donate to children. #dojochat
Since @MrsASoto brought up STEM, does anyone have a specific STEM or STEAM teacher at their school? I recently went to a conference where I learned that many districts are moving in this direction and having a STEM class as a special just like gym or music. #dojochat
I'm a volunteer @DonorsChoose National Ambassador (there are several in each state) - I am happy to help anyone who wants to write their first project, and can even get you started with a $5 donation once your project posts!

Thankfully it’s in Chicago this year; I get to go, we’re a suburb of Chicago. I’m presenting this year too, so thankful to have been selected. #dojochat

Public schools only - AFAIK that is the only requirement. They do include your free/reduced lunch % so donors know. Some match offers are dependent on that %. #dojochat

My colleague and I are part of a grant in our district called ARTEC (basically integrating arts and technology into the curriculum); we are bringing students with to share projects they have done using both art & technology in the classroom. We are both 4th grade teachers.
