Hi Y'all. I'm Leslie with GLISI. We work and grow w leaders across GA. Looking forward to learning with #TechTalkGA tonight to avoid having anyone in an audience looking like this:
I happened to be looking at resources on exactly this topic the other day to prep to welcome >190 leaders to #BCLS55. I'm petrified of public speaking and have to psyche myself up everytime. This has some great ideas. #TechTalkGA
A2: grab their attention with something interactive. A word wall with @Mentimeter or something similar. Get them involved and invested before you even begin. #TECHtalkGA
Bet no one can guess what I'm playing on @Spotify right now LOL...
A2: I like to have great music playing, explain why it's important and my pers exp, then find out who and why everyone is there!
#TECHtalkGA
Hamilton is great psyche up music! Since I always feel like throwing up right before presenting, music=at least as much about calming my nerves as connecting w audience. I've noticed you have to have a couple different playlists on tap depending on audience. #TechTalkGA
A2: Start with music and preset technology ahead of time. Talk about why I love the topic/resource and share how it can relate to them. You have to know your audience to know where to start. #TECHtalkGA
That's a great suggestion too! A Google Form is a good way to get them involved even before the session begins and then you can show the results as a way of getting started!
#TECHtalkGA
This is like a tantalizing foreign language. Can't wait to look up all of these amazing things. I have no idea what they are, but I bet they are going to show up at your local neighborhood GLISI PL! #TechTalkGA

A3: Don't instruct the entire time. Show a little, then have them practice. Let them try some of the tasks you're teaching so they can build a question bank and talk each other through it. #TECHtalkGA
A3: move around, get them to move around. Make people just uncomfortable enough to stay engaged without getting weird. Avoid verbal redundancy - if you wrote it on the screen, why would you read it to them? #TECHtalkGA
A3: #TECHTalkGA Engagement is 🔑 This looks different things for different audiences and lengths of presentations. For half day and full day workshops, I always give out a notecard at the beginning and ask attendees to write a personal fun fact to share
Any tips or tricks or preferred playlists? We use Amazon music. There's a playlist called "Singing in the Shower" that is a good pop vibe but I'd love a few back up ideas. #TechTalkGA
#TECHtalkGA A3:
I like to build in "play time" during the pres so that they have time to try what I'm talking about, ask questions, talk w/neighbors, etc.
I also like to keep the interaction throughout - polls, form groups, etc. Just like I did in my classes...
#TECHtalkGA Q4: It's important for participants to know how to do it on their own after they leave.
How do you make sure that they have a clue about what comes next?
Ooh, good idea!
I was in a session at @SCMSummit in 2017 that started out the session with a @Quizlet Live as an intro instead of an ending activity - got us all involved and talking from the very beginning!

OMG. I need to take a foreign language class before I join this chat next time. I am loving knowing nothing about what you're talking about! #TECHtalkGA
A4: use @PearDeck to check comprehension as you go. Give them resources in lots of different formats (video, HyperDoc, etc.). If you work with them, follow up!!! #TECHtalkGA
A3: I think it is always beneficial for the participants to put what they have learned to use, if at all possible. I keep challenging myself to find even the smallest way for participants to engage with (in my immediate case) the tech/platform.
#TECHtalkGA
Great suggestion! I'm doing my first full day workshop in 2 weeks and a little nervous! Trying to look at more as 4-5 back-to-back sessions!
#TECHtalkGA
A4: I did an hour long Google Classroom Mini PD today and provided a "Cheat Sheet" to take with them. It included just the key points of the presentation. Reminding them that it was on the Cheat Sheet was comforting to @Google newbies! #TECHtalkGA
A4: Leave my name, contact info. and price per hour!!! 🤣🤣🤣 Just kidding. But I like to leave my contact info and let them know the lines of communication are always open! #TECHtalkGA
A4: #TECHTalkGA I encourage everyone to use a #PLN with whatever the topic is and to take advantage of free resources. When possible I reach out to the companies I use to help with my presentation and see if they can help with free giveways to get people started.
In addition to all the great ideas to help folks get their hands busy/practicting, depending on what you are presenting/audience, opps to connect in dialog w each other to make/challenge meaning are key. Chalk talks or wagon wheels can be powerful. #TECHtalkGA
#TECHtalkGA A4:
I put all of my session slidedecks on my website and include links in them to any instructional docs that might be needed.
But I also make sure everyone knows how to get in touch and that I *want* them to reach out if they need anything!
#TECHtalkGA Q4: It's important for participants to know how to do it on their own after they leave.
How do you make sure that they have a clue about what comes next?
A3: #TECHTalkGA Yes, you've so got this! Next two favorite things = a brand new shower puff (so freeing when they can throw it at each other as way to call on each other + a fun giveaway at the end that they can take back to classroom and use with Ss) and my favorite...CHOCOLATE!
A5: Sometimes I build in time to have them try it, sometimes I like to radically change direction. Use another tool to review what you were focused on. Or I take a page from @ClintWinter and just blast Jack and Diane till everyone leaves. #TECHtalkGA
We've been exploring #gamestorming as metaphor for PL. The idea is that within a game world, people are willing to do/try things they aren't otherwise willing to try. 5 phases: imagine the game world, create it, open it, explore it, close it. So ending=closing... #TechTalkGA
A5: With a fun selfie with the group and pics/videos of the day posted out on Twitter and social (and if possible with free giveaways-shameless plug https://t.co/U9cOGhHRAh) #TECHtalkGA
By which I mean, link back to the opening in some way. If it was a survey, have them take it again or take a look at the data. If it was music, play the same song or another song. Whatever you opened with, link back to it, looking w fresh eyes post-presentation. #TECHtalkGA
We like chatting but would love to see you!
Mark your calendar for a F2F meet-up for #TECHtalkGA on 11.7.18 at #GaETC18! - hotel lobby after the after-party, 8pm.
That's WEDS this year, i/o Tues!
Come when you can, leave when you want!
A5: Ask about their takeaways. Give out free stuff related to your topic. Survey of effectiveness of presentation so you can make improvements, and put on the jam!! #TECHtalkGA
#TECHtalkGA A5:
I'm clearly behind, but I'm looking forward to reading everyone's answer to this...this is an area that I still struggle to master. I don't have that great mic drop yet...
Great chat tonight, #TECHtalkGA! Thanks to everyone who participated!
If you want you or your dist tagged for a reminder next week, fill out this form!

Fun to chat and learn with you all. I have to go look up and try all of the amazing things you all introduced me to tonight. Have a great week! #TECHtalkGA
A5: End so that everyone is walking out talking about something in the class that happened (what they got free, what they want to try, or wanting your contact info so you can talk further) - not sure how to do all that but that is my goal. #TechTalkGA
Special favor for my #pln please complete and RT. I'd be incredibly appreciative! Where do you find videos for your classroom or lesson? This 10-minute survey could result in a $50 gift card. https://t.co/aYXisPUP6o#TECHtalkGA
A shower puff is a great idea.
I actually used a partially inflated soccer ball in my classes and have done so in a training or two. It's relatively easy to throw and grab, but a little more precarious than a shower puff.
#TECHtalkGA
FOLLOW UP: What would you like to see from the #TECHtalkGA chat in the future? Especially as we lead up to #GaETC18?
Would you like to moderate?
https://t.co/n0S9WuQ755
I also want to try to get one of those ball-mics...you know what I'm talking about? Wonder if I know anyone that has one that I could borrow??
#TECHtalkGA
One last favor #TECHtalkGA
If there is anyone who made a hotel reservation for #GaETC18 that no longer needs it or can't use it, I know of an amazing MS who would love to take it off your hands! Tu-F preferably!
DM me and I'll put you in touch!
A5: I like to write a rap about the topic. My last rap was a parody of Kanye’s “Golddigger” in order to wrap up a presentation of Apple Classroom. 💃🏼#TECHTalkGA
We really are so much like our students! I almost feel like I bombard ppl with my contact info but if it lets them know that I really do want them to reach out, maybe it's not so bad...
