#ONedchat Archive
The idea for @onedchat stemmed from a conversation between Allison Fuisz and Amy Bowker in the Spring of 2014. They noticed a gap on Twitter where an Ontario-based education chat was concerned. After several conversations and a vision in mind, @onedchat was created.

Simon has some great videos on his page as well !
A1: "You can always be better than you were yesterday; that's my leadership motto." Grade 8 wrote that. Believe it true.
Anytime I think about this video, I can't stop laughing!
Education makes people easy to lead, but difficult to drive; easy to govern, but impossible to enslave.
Haven't you ever been that lone dude doing your thing but secretly hoping someone would join?
A1 Fav leadership quote:"If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more & become more,… https://t.co/RFMt0ydIuy
Powerful stuff coming from a grade 8 student !
That is a powerful quote. Whose is it?
Or you realize people can see you !?!
@ Noa Daniel (Peter Brougham)
YOU are a leader a leader! Put it on your wall today! https://t.co/Tt8Bn1LZes
I will put that on a wall somewhere, someday.
Great leaders harness personal courage capture the hearts & minds of others & empower new leaders to make the world a better place
Q2 is ready. This is all about making us think and putting students in leadership together. https://t.co/pCX8D7zzby
is now trending in Canada, ranking 34
A2: Examples & non-examples. Any informal leader w/o power but with influence can show this. Power OF or FOR instead of power OVER
A1: Also - Daniel Pink's "A Whole New Mind" sheds a lot of light on the different mindset we need to take into the future.
A2: By being a change agent, by showing student the kind of impact good leadership can have on people https://t.co/zMN3gn6sON
This book rocked my world and I have read everything he has done since. Everything relates to eduaction
A2: Leadership is about freedom, not control. Ask yourself 'am I practicing leadership' rather than 'am I the leader'
A2 By empowering others and then stepping back and letting them take the lead
A2. Share stories of:
-- eminent heroes who were average kids, or early “failures”
-- activist kids who make a difference
Without a doubt! I also find Patrick Lencioni's work is applicable in education, because it's all about communication
A2: Through the practice of empathy and putting yourself second to someone else's needs.. least that's what a S told me :)
A1: Leadership is very much about creating meaning moving forward. Pink says "meaning is the new money". Leaders create meaning.
So important to give them space, let them fail, learn, appreciate the struggle.
A2: I believe our examples of leaders must be in a 2:1 ratio: non-positional to positional leaders.
I also like to refer to it as creating momentum
A2: We can claim non-positional leadership is important, but if it's mentioned at any less than 2:1, Ss don't buy it.
A2. People need opportunities to experience leadership. At times our greatest leaders aren't the ones who are leading.
Yes, together we are stronger !
Love this. Imagine if leaders only existed when leadership is being demonstrated. Goal is to "usually" be a leader.
Shared leadership can make all the links in our chain STRONG. https://t.co/zTdPJkwox4
A2. People need opportunities to experience leadership. At times our greatest leaders aren't the ones who are leading.
Yes, to step up when needed.
A3: Be open about our own learning, help Ss be transparent through reflection, build supportive community/encourage risk taking
Often the case, isn't it? Nelson offers a powerful Gr.7 literacy unit entitled "Stepping Up."
Power is having influence over one self. Have less power or can allow one to be a leader as well depending on their goals ONedchat
A3: Recognize that Ss have been taught "start with 100%, every time you make a mistake, you lose points". Show them different.
A3: Create spaces where vulnerability is encouraged and celebrated - accept vulnerability as a positive influencer of change
A3. Failing sucks, but empathy isn't just something you claim to have. Sometimes you need to earn it the hard way.
A3. Coach permission to risk-take; offer flexible assignment guidelines/timelines; celebrate what risk & “failure” can teach us...
