Hi! I’m Shelly Sanchez, an adj professor in TX, a new mom, cofounder of #Edchat and the author of a new book about Mission Minded Learning with #Edtech Missions https://t.co/uV4UFWA2er#hcpsteach
I’m Sylvia, Academic Coach / ENG Tchr at Title 1 HS in Tampa, FL ... I call @ShellTerrell among my first circle of virtual friends ... can’t wait to meet her F2F one day! #hcpsteach
I started a new blog this year Teaching English Again (Wordpress) to document the challenges & successes of moving from FT resource back into the classroom in a dual roll. Lots of reflection!! #HCPSTeach
A1 I’ve learned so much through social media, but sadly social media can derail a sts’s focus in the classroom ... I’d like to change that focus & result! #HCPSTeach
A1: Our students are digitally connected learners who exchange thoughts, ideas, opinions, media, resources, and information with peers and the audience they are connected to on their social networks #hcpsteach
My students can collaborate in small groups asynchronously! No one is left behind because of work schedules or transportation issues...work is shared and better distributed! #hcpsteach
I agree! Yet they communicate so poorly that their teasing F2F turns mean online ... what would you recommend to help teach sts the proper communications skills? #HCPSTeach
A1: In my book I list important skills our students need to be able to do with technology, such as collaboration, citizenship, curation, crowdsourcing, problem-solving, publishing, innovation, remixing, and citizen science https://t.co/IZx7FaTn9q#hcpsteach

#hcpsteach A1 The learning part is that technology has opened up walls beyond the classroom. We have given our students, over the last 5 yrs, the opportunity to meet and talk with the History makers. It has engaged our Ss and made history relevant to them.
Yes! My 2nd graders have learned digital citizenship and how their "internet print" is there even after they delete it ok their end. Great convos with the young ones! Opens their eyes to how wonderful and challenging social media can be! :) #HCPSTeach

So true ... in my masters program, the first course was called “Beyond Walls” ... I enjoyed a class with people from Salt Lake City to Belgium ... mind blowing! 😍 #HCPSTeach

#hcpsteach A1 We have also been able to reach out to the world. We have been to Russia, Canada, Sweden, France, Israel and Denmark. Learning geography skills and sharing culture.
A1: it has given students the opportunity to learn outside of the four walls of the classroom. It also provides opportunities for collaboration across the globe. #HCPSTeach
A2: Students need to see the power of their messages spreading on social media. I love when teachers get students to post photos on social media holding a poster with the message to please share so they see how many people and countries the message traveled to #hcpsteach
A2: Students can be inspired by other young role models who use social media in powerful ways to make a meaningful impact on the world. I’ve listed some examples here https://t.co/TxbgHEYfxH#hcpsteach
If you have not experienced @ShellTerrell ‘s Teacher Reboot Camp ... need to check it out - activities/reflections to reboot your passion for teaching!!! ♥️♥️♥️ #HCPSTeach
I have done that as well but with polling for our data unit! The kids saw how much traffic an email, tweet, twitter poll, O365 link on @padlet and physical ballots would reach people! They loved it! 😆 #HCPSTeach
#HCPSteach Go to @TeachingLChttps://t.co/foRpOF2yWy. Go to the primary source analysis section. You will find premade materials that will assist Ts and Ss. We use the oral history analysis sheets when our speakers present.
Hm, Yes...I can probably share some student project reflections where they go into detail about each member's contribution and explain the process for reviewing slides (google and Insta), brainstorming and refining (DM), and rehearsing (Zoom) #HCPSTeach

#HCPSteach Another great experience our Ss Had was when Philo Barnhart & Charles Moisant visited our school. Mr Barnhart is the creator of Ariel from The Little Mermaid and has worked on other Disney animations. Shared their art skills and told Ss to achieve your dreams.
A3: Students need opportunities to create, produce, design, and make with technology! Find several activities and tons of resources here, https://t.co/Uu4cADLx95#hcpsteach
A3: Students also can be inspired by building on the content of others. These are resources for helping learners remix responsibly, https://t.co/TEDMO8fJee#hcpsteach
#HCPSteach A3 Love the use of Google Slides in the classroom. Work can be divided up allowing collaboration and all Ss responsible for work. When you give Ss these small task, we have seen the creativity and work shine.
Reporting the News and creating broadcasts is one way to spark creativity especially with green screen technology! Check out my interview about this with @jonsamuelsonhttps://t.co/YtNRmYiqZ7#HCPSteach
After Monday #edtechafterdark ... I intentionally taught my sts how to find & attribute photos for their Anthologies using a resource called Flickr Attribution Tool (I’ll find his name) #HCPSTeach

A3: Oh to name a few for us in 2nd Grade! @Seesaw allows for them to easily create a presentation with their own flare, @Flipgrid also allows for them to share their voice and respond to others through videos, and ALL of our colorful @Sways, #dashanddot & #Bloxel! #HCPSTeach
#hcpsteach A4 When putting together a Google Doc or Slides presentation, the use of explorer help the Ss with research. By typing in the topic, Explorer will find pics, websites for the Students to search.
A4: Often our students don’t realize the importance of using a critical eye when consuming information and news they discover virtually. Annotation helps them develop this skill, https://t.co/WOI82r4Cf0#hcpsteach
A4 we focused on the standards- sts identifying ways the author uses words to create an effect — the transfered the idea to bias in information #HCPSTeach Could use more ideas for HS?
My son’s teacher has students collaborate via @sway to create a weekly newlsetter for parents. It includes student made videos that document their learning from the week #HCPSTeach
A5: I think it’s important students share what they’ve heard or know about a culture then research to discover the truth and learn more. Maybe also start with a list of questions they have about the country #hcpsteach
A5 one year I used @proboards for sts to have online discussion with To Kill a Mockingbird ... they were to answer, ask, and respond to others ... I enjoyed their responses #HCPSTeach
A5: Video conferencing with other classes helps students learn about other cultures! Try Mystery Skypes or Hangouts! Find tips here, https://t.co/6hAIOmfVOv#hcpsteach
A1: DEFINITELY!! Compared to when I was in school, social media has now given a larger voice and audience to students. It has enabled them to connect on a global scale. A kid can share the thoughts or talents on YouTube and make people ‘Beleibers’. 😄 #HCPSTeach
#HCPSteach A5 We use Google Slides for vocabulary. Every Student is assigned a Slide number. Job is to write the definition, write a sentence using the term and find a visual/picture to define the term.

#hcpsteach A5 We did a collaboration project with our HS CE class and a class in Monterrey Mexico regarding the current issues between the two countries. Each class submitted and answered questions. Learn to agree to disagree. Tremendous experience!
A6 Spreading kindness ... so many sts talk negatively about others - it’s a cut-down society- social media kindness could overtake cyber bullying 🙏🏻 #HCPSTeach
A6: We need to give students the opportunity to discover their potential to do great things with technology! Mission minded learning is one approach. Some examples https://t.co/1iwge1xiJ6#hcpsteach
A6: I challenge teachers to transform a lesson into a Learning Mission in which students use technology to make a meaningful impact on the community or world https://t.co/IZx7FaTn9q#hcpsteach
In my book I share how @ColleenKR ‘s students did a crowdfunding campaign to provide food for their local community! The students wanted to do this after they did research #HCPSteach
Ss used @Flipgrid and @Sway to give information regarding our Puerto Rico collection after the hurricanes! Technology is such a powerful tool that can give kids access to contacts way beyond the 4 walls in the class!K-8 school and community involvement! #hcpsteach
Thank you! I've had such an incredible time sharing and learning with you #hcpsteach Thank you to @SylviaEllison for inviting me! I invite you to continue connecting and sharing with me on Twitter or on my blog, https://t.co/1yksamWC7L
