A1: My real purpose of discipline is relationship building and growth. Ss need to know we love and care for them. Lack of discipline is just the opposite of love/care. #EduGladiators
A1: The real purpose of discipline should be to teach, respond, reflect and discover. Teach why the behavior is unacceptable, learn how to respond correctly, reflect on what situation, and discover the reason for the behavior. #EduGladiators
A1) Discipline should be used as a resource to improve student behavior. To many times we are quick to assign consequence without putting support and interventions be in place #ShowYouCare#EduGladiators
A1: Helping students understand what they did wrong, learn from it and make better decisions in the future. It is not about punishment, it is about teaching and learning.
#EduGladiators
🖼A1:To Reframe the Behavior
🔎"When Kids exhibit challenging behavior we can be 'stress detectives' ... finding & removing barriers." via @kwiens62 🕵🏻♀️🕵🏽
🚧Find stressors-->Reduce them
🚸Find unmet needs-->Meet them
⚠️Find skills deficits-->Teach them
#EduGladiators
A1 The purpose of discipline is teach students how to make good decisions. Those who understand discipline are very good at helping students learn from poor decisions while pulling students closer at the same time. #EduGladiators
A1: Discipline is all about teaching expectations and re-teaching if necessary so Ss are able to learn content. Definitely NOT about punishment #EduGladiators
A1 I would say the purpose of discipline is to grow students understanding of how actions lead to different results, and to redirect them back to learning so that they can prosper #EduGladiators
A1: The purpose of discipline is understanding all of the variables in order to create a change. At school, we must learn in order to have the best outcomes in life!! #EduGladiators
A1) The purpose of discipline is for Ss to learn from mistakes and grow as individuals. They need to leave the experience seeing what they did, heal what/who was hurt and learn to respond better in the future. #edugladiators
A1 Providing a chance for the student to reflect on actions and developing strategies that will help them handle situations in the future. #EduGladiators
A1: I feel like the purpose of discipline is to get a person (or animal, for that matter) to conform to a give set of rules, expectations, or structures. #EduGladiators
A1: the real purpose of discipline, in my opinion, is to teach students how to incorporate desired social behaviors into their lives both in and out of school while still allowing their distinct personalities to shine. Build up...not tear down! #EduGladiators
A1: I think purpose of discipline is for reflection and support rather than punishment. Natural consequences with student ownership and input. #EduGladiators
Arguing with students pushes them further away. Hard to discipline if 'space' exists between Teacher and Student. https://t.co/gva8oH7uhl#EduGladiators
A1) The purpose of discipline is for Ss to learn from mistakes and grow as individuals. They need to leave the experience seeing what they did, heal what/who was hurt and learn to respond better in the future. #edugladiators

A1) My great-grandmother told me discipline helped me get back “in line” to not stand out. That has changed over the decades. I shy away from the word yet the results are to support positive choice making with respect #EduGladiators
A1: To provide an opportunity for someone to understand the impact of their behavior and become aware of ways to make improvements for the future/repairs to the harm that was caused. #EduGladiators
A1: Teachers that want to discipline their students see misbehaviours as an opportunity to teach. They always look for the teachable moment.
#EduGladiators
A1: Discipline is a shared responsibility among all stakeholders in a school community that holds everyone accountable for their actions! #edugladiators
A1:providing developmentally age appropriate discipline is a way for me to develop strong community for my Ss, keep my Ss safe - both in the physical sense and mental/emotional. #edugladiators
A1: discipline comes in two forms -self-discipline to stay on track, direct & take control of yr own learning; key to our kids’ success - then the more neg connotation of response to not following community rules. Both matter. How we handle each is vital! #edugladiators
A1. Procedures which are designed to ensure that all students receive the maximum amount of instruction regardless of distracting behaviors #EduGladiators
A1: Discipline's purpose should be to set parameters for behavior that are conducive to creating a safe space for thinking and learning! #edugladiators
At times we often try to regulate behavior into a one size fits all box 📦that does not take into account the situation and other variables that might impact the situation. #EduGladiators
A1: The real purpose of discipline should be time for student and teacher to reflect upon why behaviors are occuring. Take time to talk and listen. #EduGladiators
A1: A teacher that disciplines makes sure that a student’s self-esteem always remains intact. The behaviour is addressed and consequences might even be given but without ever attacking the integrity and the character of the student.
#EduGladiators
A1: Could not have said it better! Imagine is we made relationship foundation of all we do with kids?! We must show & give love & expect them to do the same. #gamechanger#EduGladiators
A1: My real purpose of discipline is relationship building and growth. Ss need to know we love and care for them. Lack of discipline is just the opposite of love/care. #EduGladiators
A2: The goal of building a relationship not burning a bridge is vital when you have a behavior issue in class. Do not add gasoline to the fire, try to find the root of the problem. #edugladiators
Two types of thoughts with this 1) the teacher that is quick to send a student out of class for misbehaving and no not complying 2) the teacher that takes the time to build a relationship with that student at work with them to make them better #EduGladiators
If discipline is more punitive than restorative, ownership will not happen and behavior will not be changed. There must be a balance of both. #EduGladiators
A2: Is my response constructive? Is it going to help the student? That should be the guiding question in everything we do. If our actions are not helping what are we doing? #edugladiators
A2: Teachers should allow students to reflect and learn from their behaviors. Too often we don’t, and make students out to be something they are not #edugladiators
A2: Goals should be to stop the behavior and to determine why the behavior is happening. There is a reason, we just need to work on finding it. #EduGladiators
A2 Every response should start and end with kindness. We work with students for them to achieve that same kindness. Sometimes the goal is to help them out of a dark place and help them see the light there is in the world. Many times that is a caring adult. #edugladiators
Arguing with students pushes them further away. Hard to discipline if 'space' exists between Teacher and Student. https://t.co/gva8oH7uhl#EduGladiators
A1: The real purpose of discipline is to recognize unwanted behavior and use as a teaching tool for Ss to make better choices. It should not be punishment.
A1) 1 goal should be to try to understand what the S is thinking/feeling. What does the S need in that moment? Good communication will also help the S feel listened to, which is important. #EduGladiators
A2: Your response to negative behavior should be focused on how to recognize the behavior is unwanted, determine the root of the behavior, and lead the student to determining how to correct...PRIVATELY. Not in front of the class. #edugladiators
Morning from Brooklyn! Life long special education and behavior consultant - living/working in NYC but raised in the Bay Area! @EduGladiators#EduGladiators
In reply to
@EduGladiators, @MrSmall215, @EduGladiators
A2: consider why that behavior is an attack on essential life skills. I teach 8th graders, always connecting things to the responsibility of driving whenever possible #edugladiators
A2 find ways to address the behaviors without even further disruption to the learning, should focus on working with the Ss, build a relationship and learn abt Ss, #edugladiators
Q2:Goals are 2 help the student "fix" the problem & get them back 2 learning ASAP. That involves getting 2 the root of the problem, helping S to take ownership of behavior and helping them understand they are a part of the community and their actions matter. #EduGladiators
A1) all teachers in a school need to be on same page with discipline it is not fair for students to be tested differently in different classrooms #ConsistencyIsKey#PBISWorks#EduGladiators
A2 For all my #EduGladiators .. I agree with everything said, but how about also adding the simple.. how would I like to be treated if I was the S? OR how would I like the T to handle this if it was my child?
A2 The goal should be to preserve learning, diginity and humanity. Address the behavior don't attack the person. Help them build a skill set to self correct in the future. #Edugladiators
A2: The goal is to teach, to help students reflect on their poor choices, take ownership of it, learn from it and make better decisions in the future. Misbehaviours are teachable moments.
#EduGladiators
A2: why? What is in that small person that made them respond/react that way? Who are we dealing with? What happened before the behavior? #edugladiators
A2: Honestly this year I don’t have a behavior that is over the top .... it is because I have developed relationships w Ss Tt and families...knock on wood! #EduGladiators
If you have taken time to build relationships with students, usually negative student behavior has nothing to do with you. If you have not, the negative behavior is probably all about you. #EduGladiators
A part of disciplining a S should include teaching strategies and how to more effectively grow self-discipline. We want them to be able to monitor own behavior and have a positive impact on the world they live in. #edugladiators
A1: discipline comes in two forms -self-discipline to stay on track, direct & take control of yr own learning; key to our kids’ success - then the more neg connotation of response to not following community rules. Both matter. How we handle each is vital! #edugladiators
A2: Goals & ?s we should have in mind echo those by Jerry Tello who specializes in #JovenNoble
"Important question is what are we restoring for?"
"Being trauma informed is good but we have got to be healing informed--for us and for the next generation."
#EduGladiators
A2: The most important thing to keep in mind when addressing S misbehavior is the "why" behind the behavior. Most often, the behavior has nothing to do with the school setting and rather the trauma being experienced by the S outside the school setting. #EduGladiators
@CRCarter313 shared a video with me yesterday and this quote I think really could apply to how we should go about "correcting" student behaviour. Students in mind not just the behaviour #EduGladiators
A2: As an AP, I love this Q!! We must focus on the growth of the S and do so is a positive manner. We can not combat negative with negative. Extend grace, grace, and more grace. Then coach them up on how to better handle themselves next time. #EduGladiators
A2: We must be engaged, realistic and present. Treat each incident individually and with importance. It is all too easy to "label" issues/people. To truly reach your students, embrace each issue as if it is the intervention that will make THAT change!! #EduGladiators
A2: An important goal is avoid having a conversation when either party has heightened emotions. It's difficult to make progress when the sender/recipient isn't thinking clearly. #EduGladiators
Reflection is huge. Reflection for the child and reflection for the adult. How can I better teach kids to make good choices for themselves. #edugladiators
A2: keep in mind that “negative” behavior is really a skill deficit - the student is lacking the skills to respond to the situation or task. Shifting the mindset of how we categorize and interpret behavior is key. #EduGladiators@MrSmall215@EduGladiators
A2 For all my #EduGladiators .. I agree with everything said, but how about also adding the simple.. how would I like to be treated if I was the S? OR how would I like the T to handle this if it was my child?
A2: bottom line...the goal is to dig deep to truly understand where the student is coming from. Believe it or not, most do not even know what they’ve done so wrong (in the teachers eyes). There is ALWAYS a reason for the behavior. Figure it out with the student! #EduGladiators
A2) The goal should also be to put supports in place to correct the behavior and to remember that not all students are same and so there is never one right consequence #EduGladiators
Spot on. If all it does is make the adult feel like the kids got what he deserved, then it's very unlikely the S learned anything from the experience. That's not discipline, that's just punishing a kid. #EduGladiators
A2b: The coaching piece is imperative. We can't expect to just dole out consequences then throw them back to the wolves. They're children and they need a coach. We need to give them tools for the future so I always coach them throughout the discipline process. #EduGladiators
A2: Goal->Restorative Practices
🏗Building, restoring, & maintaining relationships
👥Compliance->Community
🤝Learning how to forgive as well as ask for forgiveness
🍎Empowering Ss to develop intellectual & interpersonal life long skills
⏸Ending prison pipeline->🎓
#EduGladiators
A2. Focus should be on the student(s). Negative simply can't be conducted with more negative. Listening through restorative practices. Extending grace, understanding and more grace. #EduGladiators
A2: Check your emotions b4 doling out consequences for negative behavior! Make sure you don't rush to judgement. Consider where the Ss are on their journey. #EduGladiators
Exactly! It’s easy to simply punish Ss, but it takes time to re-teach behavior & mend fences with those affected. But hey, isn’t that the call of #EduGladiators 🧐 We don’t take the easy way out! We do the RIGHT thing for Ss!
A2. Impact on Ss receiving instruction, impact on the relationship, teach appropriate behavior, reducing & ultimately ending the undesirable behavior #EduGladiators
A2) Goal 1: Student should leave the conversation still believing that the adult loves them. I discipline and correct you, because I love you and you to have a better school and life experience. This also leads to better experience for all #edugladiators
a1: the purpose is for students to reflect on why they made a mistake so that they have a tool or strategy to not make the same one next time #EduGladiators
A1: Feedback that Moves Writers Forward @ Patty McGee
How to Do Everything with Ninja Moves @ @RubinPingk
Student cenetered classroom @PaulSolarz
Shattering the Perfect Teacher Myth @aaron_hogan
Four O'Clock Faculty @RACzyz
A part of disciplining a S should include teaching strategies and how to more effectively grow self-discipline. We want them to be able to monitor own behavior and have a positive impact on the world they live in. #edugladiators
A1: discipline comes in two forms -self-discipline to stay on track, direct & take control of yr own learning; key to our kids’ success - then the more neg connotation of response to not following community rules. Both matter. How we handle each is vital! #edugladiators
A3: we need to have reflective conversation with student. Need that follow up. Think about our lessons on content, we know students learn best when they can reflect on what they have learned. We need to add that to discipline. #EduGladiators
I agree with these #EduGladiators - no one wins a power struggle in the classroom. You lose the respect of other Ss when you engage in a verbal battle with a student. How we deal with #behavior is a direct model for how students should handle difficult situations @EduGladiators
Arguing with students pushes them further away. Hard to discipline if 'space' exists between Teacher and Student. https://t.co/gva8oH7uhl#EduGladiators
A2b: sometimes we try to hard with tier II and III Ss...when all they want is structure, consistent and most importantly to know that we care no matter what...#EduGladiators
Yep. We also have to have the cultural competence to know that Ss have experiences outside of our control that may lead to the negative behaviors. #EduGladiators
At times we often try to regulate behavior into a one size fits all box 📦that does not take into account the situation and other variables that might impact the situation. #EduGladiators
Any One Who Takes Up Teaching Must Always Remember " Teaching Is A Two Way Process " Never Think You Are Superior Than Your Pupil. The Pupil Too Is Playing An Equal & Important Role By Allowing You A Chance To Teach Him/Her.
The MSM is trying to distract you with old debunked #fakenews today because the real breaking news, that they’re ignoring, is that DOJ began unsealing the #UraniumOne indictments this morning.
It takes more time, but in the long run, it will save you time because if the discipline is effective, the S will use strategies taught to make better choices in the future. Win win for all.
A3: Start with finding the root of the problem, by asking "Are you okay?" Negative behavior comes from a negative feeling, even if it's deeply buried. Ask questions, but let the student do the thinking to determine why the behavior was wrong and how to correct it. #EduGladiators
A3: The law of natural consequence. Establish expectations and consequences before hand. The love and logic principle of if your behaviour impacts no one else but yourself it is your prerogative but once you leave your own bubble there is a consequence #EduGladiators
A4 Has to start with relationships, get to know Ss, set up clear expectations but involve Ss in the decisions, get their feedback, create an envt of support and keep working to build the classroom culture #edugladiators
A3: Keep the conversation gentle yet firm, tone and speed of voice are everything. Leave out the "I" statements and focus on the caring statements. #edugladiators
A3- I sit with the Ss, talk and listen. Try to get to root and often, since I was a BAD kid, I have a pearl of wisdom based on my experience #EduGladiators
A3 We need to reflect with the student. Identify and address to the area of concern and build processes to help them in the future. You can't expect a bhavior change if you don't provide tools.
Always treat them as people first!
#Edugladiators
#EduGladiators A2 Try not to let the negative behavior influence the learning environment. When you stop the lesson the student has won. Find a point in the lesson where the Ss are doing independent work then redirect the behavior.
A1. Completely agree with the relationship component of discipline. I also think it’s a learning opportunity where we navigate through the consequences AND rewards both positive and negative, intrinsic and extrinsic #EduGladiators
A3: We need to focus on providing skills that are lacking or not yet fully developed. Discipline is something you provide for someone not something you DO TO someone. #EduGladiators
A3: Discipline that teaches focuses on preserving the integrity and goals of the community. "And you, student, are a valuable part of that."
#EduGladiators
A3 We are helping students learn self moderation. But I think that we also model giving fresh starts and additional chances without holding grudges. #edugladiators
A4: Spend time building the relationships with students, that is the first step, then model the behavior, show the students what the expectations are, even have them practice! #EduGladiators
A2: The most important thing to keep in mind when addressing S misbehavior is the "why" behind the behavior. Most often, the behavior has nothing to do with the school setting and rather the trauma being experienced by the S outside the school setting. #EduGladiators
A3: It is a mindset. See misbehaviours not as a frustrating part of our job but simply as a reality of our job and as an opportunity to teach.
#EduGladiators
A3: This goes back to grace and coaching. Ss (and Ts) will mess up. This also includes us. I mess up every day. We must extend lots of grace to one another and coach them up. #EduGladiators
A3b: sometimes I find that a simple “my bad” and let’s move on allows students to forget about what happened and get ready to learn again #edugladiators
A4: Build relationships with your students. Get to know them and how their minds work. Intervene when you start to see them pull away. Relationships, relationships, relationships! #EduGladiators
A3: it comes back to that ‘teachable moment’. I like my S to see me use control, to learn that I care enough to listen, that they always have a way to start over. Consistent & vital life-lessons. I love to ask what they think would be fair and to reflect #edugladiators
Morning from Brooklyn! Life long special education and behavior consultant - living/working in NYC but raised in the Bay Area! @EduGladiators#EduGladiators
In reply to
@EduGladiators, @MrSmall215, @EduGladiators
A4 Relationships. Knowing our students and having positive relationships will stop negative behavior before it starts. It also allows the T to know the hot buttons of s to help them work through it before anything negative happens. #EduGladiators
A3: Help Ss who have done wrong to heal & restore to make it right by identifying
🔘The WHY & root causes
🔘HOW their actions deeply affected others
🔘WHAT steps they need to take to restore the relationships & themselves & so that recurrence doesn't continue
#EduGladiators
A3: Discipline to begin with should always be progressive, and act as a learning tool no matter the student or situation. Bundle discipline with effective communication- and in most cases Ss will learn from their decisions. #EduGladiators
A3. There always needs to be a consequence for unwanted behaviour. Sometimes listening to how ones actions have affected someone else in a negative way is “punishment” enough. #EduGladiators
#EduGladiators A3 Maintain your #Positivism with the Ss at ALL TIMES. A teacher who has a classroom management system based on POSITIVE reinforcement has done a HUGE accomplishment. LOVE WILL ABOUND IN THAT CLASSROOM.
A3. Having Ss undertstand their value in the school community, the importance of their "profession" (a student) and most of all importance of learning from the root cause of the discipline moving forward. #EduGladiators
The MSM is trying to distract you with old debunked #fakenews today because the real breaking news, that they’re ignoring, is that DOJ began unsealing the #UraniumOne indictments this morning.
A3: I always start with the idea that principal's office is the place Ss come to solve problems. Make references to the teamwork we do. I hope they all know they always have me in their corner and that I am always there to help them fix their problem!! #EduGladiators
A4- relationships, relationships, relationships! If I hear a WHISPER of a potential fight, I call both in and talk. I try to be visible all day and I let Ss know I have an open door policy and they can really come talk to me anytime they have a problem #EduGladiators
A2: The goal is to teach, to help students reflect on their poor choices, take ownership of it, learn from it and make better decisions in the future. Misbehaviours are teachable moments.
#EduGladiators
A3: Discipline should be a process of listening and asking questions to get all parties involved to understand what happened and what needs to happen moving forward #EduGladiators
A4: Relationships, relationships, relationships! When they know you care about them more than the content, the negatives diminish dramatically.Setting clear and high expectations supports positive climate #edugladiators
And years of experience doesn't make it any less of a challenge I think, I've had to work through some of this year and they cause me to really reflect and think of how I can do better, how to make those connections to create support #edugladiators
A3: Ts need to show Ss how to self-regulate. Give Ss that precious time, then go back and teach. There's no way a S can learn in a state of dysregulation. Discipline SHOULD be a learning experience, NOT a punishment. #EduGladiators
Hey, #EduGladiators...don't forget that #leadupchat starts in 2 minutes. We're discussing Relationships Over Rules - Teachers Matter Too. Would love to have your input there! You guys rock!
A3. It begins with the relationship. You have to separate the behavior from the S & view discipline like any other subject & teach the appropriate behavior. It will make your job easier! #EduGladiators
A4: Create a culture where students feel welcome and accepted. Next, there must be an expectation that we all contribute to our collective learning journey. Be excited to explore ideas with them. Make it personal. Share your ideas too. Embrace the human element. #EduGladiators
Another incredible #EduGladiators chat!
Thank you warriors for connecting, learning & growing this am! Special kudos to @MrSmall215 for pushing us to Disrupt the Discipline Pipeline!
A4. This goes back to the genuine relationship foundation. Taking the time to listen to students - over jumping to conclusions. These should be ongoing practices but unfortunately can get overlooked. #EduGladiators
A2: The most important thing to keep in mind when addressing S misbehavior is the "why" behind the behavior. Most often, the behavior has nothing to do with the school setting and rather the trauma being experienced by the S outside the school setting. #EduGladiators
A4: Relationships. Period. If we focus on the relational piece before anything else, many negative behaviors are curbed before they start. This also gives up a platform to speak from when they do occur. Discipline w/o relationship is pointless. #EduGladiators
A4: starts from the first day and is a continuous relationship building process. Communicate we all mess up, ask “how can we learn from this”, fist bump, blow it up, move on #EduGladiators
A2: We must be engaged, realistic and present. Treat each incident individually and with importance. It is all too easy to "label" issues/people. To truly reach your students, embrace each issue as if it is the intervention that will make THAT change!! #EduGladiators

Thank you warriors for connecting, learning & growing this am! Special kudos to @MrSmall215 for pushing us to Disrupt the Discipline Pipeline!
A3: Before correcting the behavior: find out y behavior occurred, create a plan for behavior, follow-up with Ss to make sure behavior doesn't re-occur. Be transparent with your Ss, letting them know you were a kid once and made mistakes! #EduGladiators
A4: TEACH! Teach the expectations, routines, & procedures. Review & practice as often as necessary. Be consistent, firm, & fair. Ss need the routine and consistency. #EduGladiators
Tuesday night - 8:30 PM EST - #pln365 has education leader @mlarson_nj in the house. Save the date and join the fun. Great questions that will make you think. 30 minute chat. #EduGladiators#BookCampPD
A4: Relationships. Period. If we focus on the relational piece before anything else, many negative behaviors are curbed before they start. This also gives up a platform to speak from when they do occur. Discipline w/o relationship is pointless. #EduGladiators
Ss misbehavior should be used a teachable moment, providing the Ss the opportunity to self reflect and make the right choices in the future. Choice and goal theories as opposed to assertive discipline. #HackLearning#education#teaching#EduGladiators
Q4: It all starts w/ the adults respecting the Ss. I told my Ss I loved them the 1st day of school and you could feel all Ss relax. We began building a true community in the classroom & behavior issues were minimal. Teaching expectations is also important! #EduGladiators
A2. I think it’s about finding the balance in causing change with as little interruption possible. I’ve seen educators go into these situations with S’s and P’s looking to “win” a battle and that is SOOO not what it’s about. #EduGladiators
A3)In order to teach through discipline, you need to build relationships first.Be proactive, build loving relationships so that when you have to discipline a S, they know they are being corrected and taught by someone who loves them and wants what is good for them. #EduGladiators
You're right! Doesn't make it easy because behaviors are unique and situational. Reflection and a commitment from T's to be part of the process is essential. #EduGladiators
A4: TEACH! Teach the expectations, routines, & procedures. Review & practice as often as necessary. Be consistent, firm, & fair. Ss need the routine and consistency. #EduGladiators
A3: punishment should be the LAST resort. We say it all the time, but relationships are the only way to really reach students. It truly is. Daily conversations and being in tune with each one. Learn to pick your battles too! #EduGladiators
A4: I spent 11 years on two Montana reservations until I started to effectively communicate w families I was ineffective with discipline...now as a principal nothing is stronger then the power of making the phone call, writing the note, etc #EduGladiators
A4) Clearly define expectations w/ students, not for them. Also, clearly establish routines and procedures, so Ss know what is expected. Be clear about consequences as well. It shouldn't be a surprise. #EduGladiators
Few Parents & Some Teacher's Must Realise Not Every Person Wants To Mug Up Lessons & Formulaes Few Seek Beyond Reason & Try To Build Such Childs Courage & Not Discourage Him/Her.
#EduGladiators
A2: A goal should be how to calmly diffuse the situation without interrupting instruction and speaking to the student with dignity about it. Some people have students complete a behavior reflection form and then conference with them about the root of their problem
#EduGladiators
Another incredible #EduGladiators chat!
Thank you warriors for connecting, learning & growing this am! Special kudos to @MrSmall215 for pushing us to Disrupt the Discipline Pipeline!
A4: Make meaningful connections/relationships with Ss. Ensure every student feels safe and welcome in school and has at least one trusted adult they can confide in. Teach and model “human skills,” compasssion and kindness.
#RitaPierson#edugladiators ❤️
A3: Having to discipline means that a student made a mistake (intentional or not), and mistakes are learning opportunities. How we approach discipline can very well determine a student’s mindset towards making mistakes. The end point is learning - don’t forget. #EduGladiators
Agreed but that trickle down theory can be tricky. Sometimes, it requires rising up and finding ways to overcome obstacles in creating the culture we seek. Ultimately, we always choose our own weather. #EduGladiators
A4: Ts need to relate to students as best they can through their relationships and lesson planning. The more students are excited to be present, the less likely they are to misbehave. #EduGladiators
Could not agree more! Parents are our greatest allies in educating children! We must have them on board and even teach them strategies to help with behavior at home. #EduGladiators
A4: Make expectations clear. Spend the time to make it visual and topics of discussion. Everyone must be included and understand the "WHY". #EduGladiators
Just a heads up #EduGladiators . We'll continue this School to Prison Pipeline convo in the #RJLeagueChat this week! Starting tomorrow at 8 PM est, 5PM Pac... Now don't mind me while I try to respond to everyone's tweets lol
A4) Folks who discipline well are rockstar uplifters. They look for opportunities to encourage Ss before an incident occurs and after. Be quick to encourage a kids for making a better choice following correction. #edugladiators
A4: I get behavior "at bats" set up meaning I have convos before class w/ students who struggle behaviorally and tell them I'm going to be watching them to call them out as role models, that they can be class leaders in their behavior! Changes everything. #EduGladiators
A4: from day one of school...be consistent and FAIR! It’s imperative. This leads to the proactive process. Students know if teachers have favorites and this should never be apparent! Kids know...and they will often react negatively. #EduGladiators
Great way to start my day! Believe is Ss and families everyday and all the time! @D4Griffin3 you help empower educators to reach new heights #EduGladiators
Parents & Teacher's Must Realize That Not Every Student Wants To Mug Up Lessons & Formulaes. There Are Some Who Seek Beyond Reason , Some Who Like To Verify The Approach & Few Who Want To Try New Methods. Encourage & Not Discourage Such Students.

Its super powerful when discipline to set expectations for students but communicate with them, I’m holding you to these and I want YOU to hold ME accountable to these as well! #EduGladiators#edchat#ohedchat
“You’re ‘just’ doing that for attention” is such a detrimental response to behavior, implying that a need for attention is negative/unimportant. Let’s always validate/assure kids that everyone needs attention & teach them how to seek it appropriately. #JoyfulLeaders#LoveWorks
Q4: It all starts w/ the adults respecting the Ss. I told my Ss I loved them the 1st day of school and you could feel all Ss relax. We began building a true community in the classroom & behavior issues were minimal. Teaching expectations is also important! #EduGladiators

A4. One notion is to have student-focused engaging lessons. If they’re engaged they are less likely to step out. Give them a Voice in how they see a successful learning environment playing out. What it looks, sounds, and feels like. Gotta relinquish some control #EduGladiators

To answer the student question, “why do we need this?” the default answer can always be brain training. If you want to run faster you need to run. If you want to be a better reader you have to read. Being a good thinker requires practice which builds confidence. #eduGladiators
