A1: New staff this season so i don’t wanna tip off anything. Me personally, I like to slow the game down and keep the defense on sidelines. I love taking time off the clock with slow methodical drives #txhsfbchat
A1) We will be incorporating tempo as a larger piece of our offensive philosophy this year using a variety of speeds from full speed hurry-up to check with me #txhsfbchat
A1. 2 types. Fast and faster. Never huddle unless its during a time out. Control the tempo. Force the Defense to make mental mistakes pre snap. If you ain’t first, you’re last. Give them as little time to adjust and attack. #TXHSFBCHAT
A2. Hope no opponents are watching this 😂 Wrist Bands. I’m all for signs as well but the wrist bands come in handy. Generally will show the number on hands as well as tell the closest WR and it’s relayed down the field to farthest player. #TXHSFBCHAT
Since I jumped in randomly, after probaly a year away, I guess I should introduce myself. Seth Bass, HFC North Shelby HS, Shelbyville, MO #8Man#TXHSFBCHAT
A2: Again not trying to tip the cap on anything. I’ve had experience with all three. On offense I like going verbal because it slows the game down, on defense I like a combo of Wristbands and hand signals #txhsfbchat
HSSocialMedia : RT CoachShiffman: Q2: How do you communicate your plays on offense? Verbal? Hand Signals? Wrist Bands? Why did you choose this communication style? #txhsfbchat
A2: I've simply yelled it out the first two years, but plan to switch to signal boards this year to save my voice and make things easier on windy nights. #TXHSFBCHAT
A:2 all hand signals, but sometimes end up yelling formation while kids are running back - makes it a bit faster. Also have 4-4 one word calls a game that we will verbally call . Feel it makes us move the fastest AND think the least.#txhsfbchat
At WashMO we just yelled it in, no signals, no boards, no wristbands. We went fast enough it really didn't matter. Rochester does it, didn't seem to bother them. #txhsfbchat
A3) In shape and Great Players... especially on the DL. Adjust by keeping the tempo high and making them run, the more they run the better. #TXHSFBCHAT
A3: Defenses that just seem to have no rhyme or reason of why they do anything. It is almost like the roll the dice and then pulls something out of a hat to call a play. #txhsfbchat
I’ve always had my train of thought from the old school, I want my defense simple and to be able to execute perfectly. Always thought that wrinkles the offense the most. #txhsfbchat
A3: A sound one that adheres to their rules well and communicates even better. We try to counter it by hard counts and checking plays at the line a bit more. #TXHSFBCHAT
A3: A defense that plays gap sound and disciplined. Depth always plays a key role. Keep guys fresh and rested. Those kind of defenses tend to slow the game down. #TXHSfbchat
#txhsfbchat A3) 3-3-5 with multiple fronts and blitzes. Coverage should vary as well. Show 2 high and roll to a 3 at the snap of the ball. Keep the offense guessing so they can't get a good read on your defense.
#txhsfbchat A1 We vary tempo quite a bit. It's essential to switch it up and be unpredictable. At the same time it's nice to go really fast when the defense is huffing and puffing. We are one of the few teams who uses Tempo with 21, 22, & 32 personnel
A4.) Going from a basic huddle offense with the former staff to a no huddle fast pace offense. Learning to adjust to the tempo on the field. It takes time. It’s a work in progress but we’re getting there. #TXHSFBCHAT
A4: or biggest problem has been scout team. We want to make sure they are in the right defense but to do that it takes time to get the kids set up. Personally I've had to adjust to coaching on the fly or by film instead of being able to say something after each play. #TXHSFBCHAT
A4) Playing slow. Having the ability to go 5 minute offense. And holding the O-line in their stances, cadence is very tied to tempo.
Huddling up and staying in it long enough to play at your "normal" speed, I think is about the only way. #txhsfbchat
#txhsfbchat A3 defenses with coordinators who study film and know Tendencies... disguising coverage, late blitzes, & shifting fronts sucks to deal with
A4) I do think you need to train a little differently if you are going to play faster than fast. Come by #ironchat on Thursdays to talk S&C, this week we talk about all things squat hosted by @FarmingtonPower#txhsfbchat
A4: Formation misalignnents and now wrestling with doing personnel groups this upcoming year. Otherwise, having to put it on the backburner last year with inexperience and smaller roster. #TXHSFBCHAT
A4-Some of the biggest things to overcome early on with tempo is limiting all mistakes ie penalties, drops, misalignment etc..mistakes kill tempo. Must be discipline and that takes a lot of reps...especially in game reps. Must do the little things right! #txhsfbchat
#txhsfbchat A3) Change your reads if tempo isn't working. Slow down get a feel for the defense, then start your tempo again once you figure out where they are attacking you from.
Focus on the little things! Even in the weight room. We have shirts and shorts with the number and logo on them. We expect them to wear them in the weight room. Little things are important. #TXHSFBCHAT
#txhsfbchat
A3 4-2-5 stemming up front probably be more aggressive with Lbs. Coach in both has to communicate down and distance quick so we can call defense off tendencies from film
Thanks @coachfisher_rp for having me host the GRAND DADDY OF THEM ALL, the #txhsfbchat! If you guys are bored on Mondays at 8pm CST swing on through to the #hogfbchat it's a pretty good time. Coach Shiffman signing off!
Teaching coaches/players the benefits of tempo and how we have to be super efficient at practice with time management & coaching on the run. #txhsfbchat
