-
-
Welcome Sarah! Thanks for joining
-
Thanks for joining us! I am a CHS graduate. Class of '04
-
A1: Gives the student the proper direction to move towards. Also helps with expectations and work ethic.
-
A1 Goals are important to have a directions for Ss and staff. Goals also let us have a place we want to get to.
-
this is a reminder tweet to make your way to chat :)
-
I'm an HTHS grad, Class of '01! :)
-
-
My brother is HTHS class of '02! Let's chat!
-
A1 Goals lead to having something to work towards.Need write down goals. Harvard study says ppl who write goals more likely to achieve
-
-
A1: Goals help individualize the learning process for students- where are you and where do you want to go?
-
-
-
-
-
Goals help us differentiate for individual needs and abilities
-
A1 Goals provide guidance but offer choice
-
yes! Self reflecting on our goals is important in the process
-
A1: Self-selected goals should be a product of self-reflection and assessment to guide Ss toward deeper learning
-
Thanks for the tip! I will start writing down my goals tonight!
-
Hi - this is the Waterford Township Administrative Team partaking in the chat this evening!
-
-
-
Thanks for being with us today!
-
-
-
Q2: How do you support and guide students in creating their goals?
-
Yes! https://t.co/bqx8DPZzK9
-
-
A1: Self-selected goals should be a product of self-reflection and assessment to guide Ss toward deeper learning
-
A2: Provide lots of opportunities for reflection.
-
Ss taking ownership of goals will not only create a more rewarding experience, but it shift the learning 2 student-led
-
A1) Written goals help us all stay focused, as long as they are measurable, achievable, and attainable.
-
Thanks for being with us Cory! It wouldn't be a chat without you!
-
Exactly! Nothing wrong with short-term goals.
-
A2 I use to teach my Ss about in the beginning of the yr to set goals. We looked at pre-assessments to determine areas of growth
-
Thanks Marla You are too kind!
-
Q2: had my Ss create readng/wrting goals. First reflected with "I am the kind of reader who __" Then using that to set relevant goals
-
A2) student goals should be just like every other goal; realistic. When you're real, it's amazing what you can do!
-
I love your goals bulletin board!
-
A2 It's necessary to have Ss know where they stand in the class. Adjust their goals accordingly. We focus on keeping/checking records
-
-
A2: Modeling/Lead by example.
-
Yes! Making the shift to using their goals to direct their learning https://t.co/LccG4TbO0h
-
-
Ss taking ownership of goals will not only create a more rewarding experience, but it shift the learning 2 student-led
-
Do you use memes to help give feedback to students? How? Share your fav memes! Help me for a future post
-
-
A2: My Ss study anchor charts of strategies and self-reflect on the ones they use often and the ones they need to try out more.
-
I am a visual learner as well Marlz, love this. It is also good that students can revist and look back at progress
-
-
Do your students put a sticky note on the strategy they want to work on to stay focused?
-
Great idea for students to reflect on strategies https://t.co/uhfKo08drs
-
-
A2: My Ss study anchor charts of strategies and self-reflect on the ones they use often and the ones they need to try out more.
-
Hello Chris! Glad to have you!
-
Regardless of any goals, they should have a piece where they are reflective or tracked. It helps you keep motivated!
-
They write their goal on a sticky note and put it next to them while they read. They later add it to their RRJ.
-
Need to infuse more goal setting at the HS level. I talk with Ss about their dreams & share how each assignment is one step closer!
-
Q3: How do your students monitor progress towards achieving their goals?
-
-
What tools do you use for keeping/checking records?
-
. Yes, I think sometimes we focus on big goals when we should break them down into small short-term goals we can attain
-
-
A3: Benchmarks. Making sure that they're taking baby steps towards their big goal.
-
-
when students and staff have buy-in to their goals, it's amazing what you can accomplish.
-
Exactly! You need to pick a goal that will push you without pushing you over.
-
A3 They maintain record in their binders of all assessments as we hand them back. They also bookmark on their Chromebooks
-
A3: Ss share achievements toward their goals w the class after our workshop. This inspires their peers to also work toward goals.
-
Agreed! Too often our industry focuses on the results and not the process!
-
A3) Progress can be monitored in a myriad of ways. As long as the goal setter is exhibiting knowledge of the goal, who cares?
-
and it is great for students to encourage each other!
-
-
-
Sharing success along the way is so motivating when working towards a long term goal
-
-
We must celebrate any and all accomplishments. Growth is Growth! Don't let a standardized cut score tell you any diff
-
We check frequently to check their grades. It's important they know how to this as well their parents.
-
A3) Nothing wrong with celebrating a goal when you accomplish it, especially in schools. We share all accomplishments!
-
A3: Ss can keep a sheet of reading goals/habits on sticky notes.Ss move goals to the habits section w T when they feel successful.
-
Q4: What happens when your students encounter obstacles when working towards their goals?
-
why yes, yes it is. Showing progress and growing / learning in schools is what all schools are about!
-
A4: I like to help Ss problem solve ways they can reach their goals and who can help them to be successful
-
A4 It's always a challenge. But teaching perseverance is important.
-
A3: Most of the time in high schools, grades are the goal. We need to change our Ss focus to be learning driven, not grade driven.
-
A4) nothing wrong with failing - even in goals. As long as you know that failure is the
First
Attempt
In
Learning
-
That is so awesome! What a great way to boost confidence too, as Ss watch the habit side grow!
-
A4: Ss should feel comfortable asking for help and support from Ts and peers in their community.
-
School is more than grades! https://t.co/fE3ma7EQqG
-
-
A3: Most of the time in high schools, grades are the goal. We need to change our Ss focus to be learning driven, not grade driven.
-
-
Who can help you along the way is important. We all have our support system that help us reach our goals https://t.co/eUzyxsljYR
-
-
A4: I like to help Ss problem solve ways they can reach their goals and who can help them to be successful
-
A4: That's when the real learning takes place!!! I profoundly believe that any obstacle has a path around, over, or through it.
-
A4 great to help Ss problem solve, but sometimes you have to reframe the problem and start a new goal.
-
I like to tell students that perseverance is how they did not give up when they learned to ride a bike!
-
-
start thinking about how to establish personal learning networks to facilitate student agency.
-
Proudly an over-believer!!!
-
Hey ! What are we talking about tonight?
-
-
So true! Sometimes you need to analyze the situation and change a goal. Such a great life lesson
-
-
Q5: What advice do you have for teachers who are starting goal setting with students for the first time?
-
A4- We help them find the reason they did not succeed and give them other strategies for success. It could be anything!
-
A5: Set goals that are achievable. It's easy to get caught up in big ideas. Always think forward but make sure you can accomplish it
-
A5: go slow, listen to your Ss, ask them: what do you want to achieve? how can we get you there together? https://t.co/DaJQqRrXtL
-
-

A5: Set goals that are achievable. It's easy to get caught up in big ideas. Always think forward but make sure you can accomplish it
-
A5: We need to allow failure and retakes! The goal should be about learning, not compliance!
-
A5: Teachers can start goal setting with Ss in one subject area and see how it goes. You might need goals for your goal setting!
-
-
Usually the youngest students are the most honest with their feedback!

Our Superintendent calls that "crock-pot-learning" - there are where going slow is needed - it helps it cook! https://t.co/0WblzPLTLz
