Greetings . Love this topic! I'm an elem. principal in North Texas
I hope that isn't how they keep you near your desk Nathan!
A1 Actually.. I'd say I'd eschew balance in work/life. Something's got to give. Married w/children adds challenges, too. +
A1) My ideal balance is to be "present" for my school and for my family. I've been "there" but it is always brief. LOL
A1: Being happy and feeling valued in what I do in both! I am working towards this balance by focusing on one goal at a time.
A1: Ideal would be work staying at work...Doesn't happen in this field. Effective educators intertwine education in every aspect
A1- balance to me will be when I can finally get both of my kiddos in their own bed 😂 and no. Not there yet lol
Suzette, Math teacher from CA.
Hi Kim. Tonight's should be great. Good to connect with you here.
Hi Karyn, thanks for taking the time to join us. Wow!
A1 Ideally school work should be done at school and family matters should be at home.
Instructional technology specialist from Houston! Running late but this is awesome topic :)
There are a bunch of folks pursuing a post graduate degree... How about a shout out to them! https://t.co/RQIiTaPJ4t
Karen Interventionist from Houston. I'm trying to balance grad school and teaching work load.
A1: Trying to find Monica. Ms. L. is already found. LOL Not there. So far away.
A1 Proper work/life balance occurs when everything and everyone gets the attention that is deserved. I strive for it.
I'm retired from 35 yrs. of public education. I'm busier than ever as private school principal and 21st Century Ed PD Presenter
A1: tech tools is work&hobby, when excited @ a project I tend to wk at night, no balance yet need to find a way to spread myself
A1: early mornings are me time and then get to class by 7 for no interruption work. Afternoons are family and sports!
Yikes, that sounds tough!

they wish they could. It is hard to find me most times
Tracy here from N Texas. Just a full time education volunteer - struggling with balance. Love this topic!
A1: the ideal work/life balance for me would be leaving work at work leaving ⬆️ time for life, family and me
Bethany from Arkansas jumping in late...Let me just admit that work and life balance is NOT my strength!
A1b Probably having orgs I'm associated with be flexible for when stuff comes up.
A1- also being happy @ work. Not always feeling like I have SO far to go before my goals are within reach!
A1 Strive for it don't know if I achieve it.
Sounds like an interesting and challenging combination!
Great way to wind up my spring break!
The balance occurs when your private life supports your professional while you support those in your private life. Yes I'm there
A1: Since my wonderful wife & I both work in education we blend home/work often but think we strike good balance
Hello to my friends! Sorry to join you late.
A1: made big strides this year! Weekends r mostly mine now, or if I do work its stuff I enjoy doing.
A1: Being able to be productive & invested at home & school. I wish I was there. There's always change! https://t.co/QltztmQd2g
A1: Work-life balance would be great if we could ever get a Starbucks inside of the school...not asking for too much ☕️
Coach in Alief (Houston) Hm don't know if I'm balancing anything well at the moment. We'll see tomorrow! https://t.co/IpkGchXSq6
Glad that you are here on !
A1: Perfect balance would be if I could actually plan lessons at school. That is rare for me!
I'm with you. 6 am would be sleeping late. https://t.co/sY6VZhcwwU
A1: In my utopia I would wake up at 6am instead of 4:30 am and leave work on time everyday
Welcome Ro! I hope you get it sorted out!
A1: Balance would mean equal parts work, school, and home with a smidgen left over for me to workout
A1: Gerald AP from Houston. Work/life balance is a constant work in progress. Some yrs, months, and weeks are better than others.
Exactly and not take work home!
Yes to all those in grad school know... This too shall pass! It's worth it when you get that diploma :)
4:30 am. Wow! How early do you head to bed each night? I would go at 7 pm. :-0
A1c So, for me, chasing work/life balance from the get-go is a lot of extra work that may not have a positive pay-off.
A1: My ideal work/life balance is to be able to walk out of school by 5:00 each day! NOT THERE!
Eschew balance and espouse...?
A1 It's impossible to leave work at work but finding time to put work out of my thoughts is necessary.
A1: *Any* day now I'll master the whole work/life balance thing. ☺️ Until then, you just have to give them both all you've got!
you are in the right place! I think we can all be better at finding ! I know I can be!
We have a young lady in theatre & it is a very large time consumer for us! We just have to manage it well!
sounds great..The issue comes when those in my private life have schedules differing from my professional world
Yes, like I was briefly actually present for my kids in the last hour or so between cooking and getting ready for !
A1 You can't take care of others unless you take care of yourself first. That is Rule #1
A1: Am I there yet? Lol! I'm always trying to improve. I think "shutting off the brain" from work and to home can be hard.
6th grade math
A1: Not in ideal balance due to finishing grad school for administration.
You can live your career. But remember:
No one every laid on their death bed and said they should've spent more time at work...
Hi Bethany. Glad to connect with you on tonight.
4:30 for me as well. It's the only time I can workout!
Relationships. Knowing whom I can count on when something comes up. In the end, tho, it's health, family, work.
This is a modern truth in education, is it not? More on this later!
A1 ideal work/life balance is leaving work there. Never do lesson planning/grading at home but need to leave work emotions there
. I work well at night & best ideas come then, my ideal work would be split day 10am-2pm & 10pm-2am
If the org(s) I'm with don't get that I'm in the wrong place
My hubby, , is attempting this on both of our behalves now! I hear you!
Thanks Andi, we always find time to juggle into the mix in the Kilgore household too!

A1: A lot of my life balance involves connecting, learning, writing. Some don't understand that about me. :)
Q2: Tag your "cheerleader?" What would your cheerleader say about achieving work/life balance? https://t.co/EO65UUCPWR
I think balance is sometimes a mirage. Different things take priority at different times.
the 10pm would be great for you since it is best time to see firecrackers
A1) My ideal is becoming more of a blend than a balance of work/life.I think my ideal is to make sure priorities/time well spent
A1: Still trying to find a balance. Is this more of a challenge for educators than other professions?
A1: I get more creative at night so I kind of do it to myself.
I’m having trouble keeping up & seems like stuff doesn’t pop-up at same time in Participate as my other twitter app
So true, I used to call my wife & ask her to leave her campus & she does same w/me lol!
Perfect balance = always doing what is best for my fam and my Ss. Knowing when to work & when to take time away. Not there yet.
I really have to figure out how to do this! So hard!
We're supposed to have cheerleaders? Maybe I've discovered my problem ...

. A2 My wife would say overall, my balance is not far off.
A2- also my mom :) although she is not on twitter. My life would be a mess if she didn't help ALL THE TIME!

A2 She has my support, too for stuff she needs (even when it involves in-laws)..
I think we do a great disservice when we leave work at work and home at home. They need to be intertwined. We aren't two people
I leave at the bell to go get my owns kids, but get on my time before school.
A2 My cheerleaders...my kids, my church, friends, people at school who do a great job modeling what balance looks like
You are mine too now, that okay? :) This pic makes me smile!

And now, me too! Thanks so much! :D Take care!
Q2 My biggest cheerleader is my mom. She would say, listen to your body. It knows when it needs rest.

Q3: Your "confidant" is confidential, but what would they say about achieving work/life balance? https://t.co/1p1f9TIvPs
You're quite welcome. We need to tell our cheerleaders they make a difference.
Neat perspective. My students love hearing about my family and vice versa. It helped build relationships.
Use Tweetdeck. Best thing ever since sliced bread.
how close are we to having this thing done?
A2: My cheerleaders: my P- , , , , , and ❤️

this continues to be the most challenging aspect of my role as Dad & Husband and Principal & 'Work Dad' !
One of my confidants, would say that I am not very balanced when it comes to work and life. LOL.
Love this idea! Thanks for sharing it!
A1 work life balance is a myth. Look to achieve life balance, work is an important part of my life, not something separate
finding right amount of time for family & work obligations, not yet
Yes. A wise person once said, "Follow your passions & you'll never work a day in your life."
wazzup, everyone! Happy Spring! Autumn here in Brazil
Q3. Don't have one of those either
A2: My coworkers/friends (would love to tag them, but they are not on Twitter). LOL
. Do something you love and you'll never work a day in your life. If you love it you want to take it home!
A2: My cheerleaders aren't on social media. Most don't know how many irons I have in the fire. It might scare them.
Maybe. Unless our passions take us away from other obligations (Kids, family ...)
A:2 My husband has the same problem as me so he is of no help:/
A3: STOP BRINGING WORK HOME, L. (end caps)
A3: My mom believes firmly in letting go of the things we can't change; easier said than done! Worry accomplishes nothing.

A3: my confidant understands the struggle and knows that if we are working late then our kids will be in tow!
Hi Brian. Glad to connect with you on tonight. 😀
. Ah, the power of "yet!" So good!

. agreed! Leslie is rockin it!
I love workouts for helping me find balance each week!

just popping in for a few, dispelling the myth of work/life balance is a personal fav!
A3 They would say family & self first so that you are healthy & happy enough to give your best to work. https://t.co/CnXbZNGX0h
Q3: Your "confidant" is confidential, but what would they say about achieving work/life balance? https://t.co/1p1f9TIvPs
has built a culture where our team can work on the work when it makes sense. She gives freedom 4 play, rest, family.
has really changed my game, too. Great tool.
Hi - Rex from Winnipeg dropping in. Principal K-5
A3: That finding an actual balance is impossible! But finding a balance that you can feel good about is what really matters!
Faige retired K teacher. Here 4awhile a2 My cheerleaders those who support my passion & interests & let me know my voice is heard
A3 Confidant? For me it’s like Tom Magnum’s “Little Voice.”
A3) 1. Do what makes you happy. 2. Family comes first!
It appears that they really mean it too!
A3: focus on your family. You will always have work to do.
A3 Your work is important, but your health/family is more important.
. yikes - ok I totally should have tagged my amazing husband first! He's at every school event! https://t.co/w22bKTzew7
A2 no single cheerleader, have several friends and co-workers that help me out, nothing specific said
some days it is,even if you love it-but to pretend it is not a part of your life in balance makes balance impossible
When coworkers use my first name, they mean business.
A3. Interesting Q and I'm not sure what would be said! (I guess we are that good at keeping things on the DL!)
I hear that! I couldn't tag anyone but , recent cheerleader! is a Twitter recluse.
is my confidant. He'd say I work too much. We are both committed educators, it's such a temptation to work all the time.
then I am certainly one of your cheerleaders Faige, good to have you here as always!
A3 I think a lot of life’s problems can be eased/solved via old movies. Like with The Last Straighter.. +
ya'll could be a new band & bring tacos!
This struggle is absolutely real. I want to try allthethings. The hashtag for that is a little wild tho. https://t.co/CyZKpNZ91e
A3: I guess they would tell me that things could wait until tomorrow. I sometimes can't stop then realize it's after 5:00.
A3 my confidant (these are weird terms) would say stop stressing & have confidence in giving everything I have everyday at work
I try, I really do BUT I go tend to overboard at work, and a little under at home
A3 When opportunity presents itself, grab on with both hands. My little voice says “go for it” a lot. It’s worked out so far..
Mine either! Or they have accounts they don't frequent!
My confidantes are my wife, mother and former boss. They all encourage me to be me, and remain inspired.
A2: My biggest cheerleader is taught me everything I know about teacher-student-parent bond and growth mind set!
My confidant just asked, “Do you want me to bring me your food?” He might think CriminalMinds and don’t equal balance.
we are bringing our act to next year
they would acknowledged that sometimes they are happy w/ it (when it swings toward home) other times less happy
A3 Stop fighting who you are, accept the lack of balance as part of your way of achieving what you believe is important.
A3: take care of yourself and family.
tweeps, we need to give Mr. Riley some love! We are here for you, Tim! https://t.co/T6DWIseqJX
Q3. Don't have one of those either
A3 My great friend & colleague reminds me, "You've got to disconnect to connect."
Q4: Tag your "life coach?" What would your life coach say about achieving work/life balance? https://t.co/wlSwlc9lYb
As educators we must have others we can share our trials without fear of judgement. Peers that understand our craft.
Except for us singles. Then we focus on work.
Late to the party had to prepare to get back to the grind for work :)
Yes, take hiatus from Tweet Chats and complete dissertation - then chat away as Dr. tntechgal!
You did not have to tag a confidant. They are top secret, if desired! :D
I gave some away yesterday, Oprah style. Together we can crack the top 2mil on Amazon
I live by this. Keeps my blood pressure low. https://t.co/h1bJU1dhYo
A3: My mom believes firmly in letting go of the things we can't change; easier said than done! Worry accomplishes nothing.
It's great to have a hubby rock, isn't it? :D
My cheerleaders and my confidant all say - put down the phone and join us! Thanks for the brief visit
Lovely! Spouses who fit the bill of cheerleader, confidant, and coach are the best!
A3: I honestly don't know anyone who makes it work perfectly. People in my role are all in the same boat. https://t.co/E9wZ3IKjeC
nooe, just a fun children's book, you could read it in less than 30 mins probably!
A4: STOP BRINGING WORK HOME, L. (end caps) (Yes, they are all out to get me.)
Good thing we are talking about work/life balance then Bradford!:)
A3: I know I work too much because I am constantly thinking about what I could next but I actually love my profession😌
That's why I take too much home w/ me. 😉 https://t.co/zQZqBJiEU0
. Do something you love and you'll never work a day in your life. If you love it you want to take it home!
I need to hear this. My job has been eliminated & I am about to take a HUGE leap of faith...
So many! Lucky girl, Karyn!
not sure I'll be next year but if so I'll bring fireworks to your session!
A4) Sorry, no life coach. No time for that! LOL
A3 My confidant listens with open mind. Let's me keep talking till I find my way. Supports w/out judging. Not a yes person.
A4: is a great source of motivational quotes, many re. balance. We mostly know what to do, just need to do it.
I am pretty sure I wrote about this l, I will look for the blog post!
I thought you were talking about the chat for a minute, Nathan! lol
A4 No _hit! God & my PLN.
Hey ! Long time, no see. Dave, teacher educator from NW IA checking in for a bit.
. Can u believe I am attempting moderation w/o it? I resist using it during high stakes chatting
Thank you. Gr8 people here at
A3: she gets props for being the confidant too... https://t.co/mrqVOhAbEQ
Yes, take hiatus from Tweet Chats and complete dissertation - then chat away as Dr. tntechgal!
thank you:) not looking for sympathy it is what is
A4: Don't really have one life coach, but the motivation from Twitter definitely keeps me sane & going.
These questions are all the same.
A4 So many teachers I meet are people of faith. It rubs off. If life is making choices my PLN provides lots to choose from..
Hey Dave, welcome! I am moderating and it is hopping!
It's not a myth but it can be woven in successfully. However it was viewed as separate. Times change
A3: They would say that you have to take time to smell the roses.
A4: Honestly, I struggle with the whole idea of “work/life balance” b/c it seems to set “work” up as a bad thing. I love my work!
A4: life coach... my faith helps to guide those crazy decisions. Sometimes you just have to give it up and pray about it!
ok i give myself a conduct cut I didn't focus so much on work rather just getting my house ready for the norm LOL

A3- work life coach is . Always knows what to say. She's got it all figured out!
No sympathy, but yes to empathy. We all need somebody, that's why I joined Twitter. :)
I can’t wait to hear your story
A4: I like to think in terms of “rhythm” instead of balance. Ensure that work is in rhythm with all the other good parts of life!
A4 life coach would tell me to keep priorities straight.Reflection is important. Priorities can change in different life seasons.
Well, if there are cookies...:D
A4: Hmmmm...not sure I have a life coach....
A4) Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. - Ferris Bueller
"make time for me and I will make time for you!"
There aren't. It's a myth. (Actually, I ate them.) .
I agree! It's a calling for me. Hard to say "leave work at work" when I find purpose in it but I try to prioritize time
Sure is a big motivator for me as well Jessica, great educators doing all they can for learners for the win!
And just remember, it goes the other way too, when you are overly focused on life and not work.😉
Can't wait to have one to tell...errrr...the next chapter to share!
Love this...great way to think about it! https://t.co/gfitWWVSdO
A4: I like to think in terms of “rhythm” instead of balance. Ensure that work is in rhythm with all the other good parts of life!
A4: Lord is life coach, his word is guidance, expects me to pray guidance&blessed he gave great ppl on earth as a sounding board
. Sage advice! Priorities change across the grander scale of time too!
My thoughts exactly! view their work as a high calling!
No, they're your PT Trainer. .
the idea that work is somehow a separate entity is the myth- balance is in constant state of fluctuation
Q5: How does perspective inform/influence our notion of work/life balance? Equal for all? Explain. https://t.co/SzsgnUYyWD
I am trying anyway, because you know, silly me.
A4: has been my life coach since my Y1 in edu! She would say family first! W/O a balanced home life, everything fails.
A4 Hmm my life coach right now: my walks, quick snapshots as I walk, my blog. A source of reflection to understanding my "why"
A4 My life coaches are my faith and my values. These keep me grounded and keep me going even in the most challenging of times.
if you move schools you lose all your "stuff" because your account doesn't transfer 😞
My thoughts exactly! https://t.co/2GSEeK8H0h
the idea that work is somehow a separate entity is the myth- balance is in constant state of fluctuation
And now I have someone new and aweome in my . Thanks!
Well if we're going that route then I have for mine!!
That. Yes. People used to leave work at work & home at home. Worked for life and not lived for work
. It's the shark macarena! Wow!
Q4: I would say one of my life coaches is my husband. He tells me to just stop sometimes when I am constantly on the computer.
I'm in the process of working with Mrs to retire (66% pay cut) to make teaching "it".
. You know how we love our dichotomies, us humans!
Yes. This. . And it's confidential too.
A5: Our view of ourselves and our roles as educators is essential. We embody what we believe in our classroom practices.
I do that any time I go for a walk or run. There is a nice rose bush on my way home! So good!
did they? or did we just perceive that? my parents did work at home plenty of times
A5) Sometimes you have to step back from work to keep a healthy perspective. It can be all consuming.
A5: Everyone has different lenses & a diff perspective? My comfortable balance might not work for you? Ts need personal IC'ing.
Methinks there's more to it than salary and material things. I could use more joy. Mrs too. How about you?
A5: As puts it in The Courage to Teach: “We teach who we are.”
A5: Some ppl are workaholics and feel like they can sleep when they are dead. Perfection is their kryptonite
Mine will tell me to just stop when I am mulling an idea over repeatedly and it's stressing me out!
YIKES...the teacher caught us off task...look alive! 🤔🤓😙
Isn’t that the truth! :-O
Perspective is everything! You have to believe in what you are doing. You need supportive people to understand your perspective
Worst saying ever: "sleep when I die."
A5: We must have a balance or we will get burned out.
A5: perspective unique to each person, influences bal decisions, my perspective changes based on interests, chats vs dissertation
Another great person for my . Thanks!
Truth. https://t.co/oLgorbJ0Rp
A5) Sometimes you have to step back from work to keep a healthy perspective. It can be all consuming.
A5: Our goals are similar but different...student achievement oriented but individualized for personal achievement
A5: Perspective is what explains our constant struggle for balance. We see the "need" and we justify our actions to our spouse.
A5: If you are not top of your game, then you are no good to the students or your campus.
A5: Part of the struggle is learning to say “no.” We need to have appropriate boundaries too.
A1 my ideal balance would be that everyone knows there role and all know to stop at the end of the day and pick up tomorrow.
Someone said that the other day & I thought to myself, it doesn't quite work that way. https://t.co/ZTq4LJMK0s
A5: Some ppl are workaholics and feel like they can sleep when they are dead. Perfection is their kryptonite
This could be my mantra. :-)
https://t.co/MFgwMVNQRM
Being positive in a negative situation is not naive. It's leadership.
A5Balance is incredibly important, but what is "balance" for me might not be "balance" for you. And that's okay.
a5 I love looking perspectives. We all have POV. I wrote this thinking about our narratives https://t.co/Wd3pYHD6IH .
Oh yes, I've done that before and then I feel like a jerk b/c, you know, students matter a lot!
A5: Think we "spend time on the things we value" we just have to make sure loved ones/family/friends get their time/energy too
Remember, put your oxygen mask on before you help others. Perspective: take care of yourself so that you can save others!
carebears!!! need the getalong gang too! agreed on love work blends to life
A5: Your perspective is your reality. Therefore it can be different for everyone.
A5 definitely not all working towards same thing; perspective shifts our focus to meet that perspective
There are multiple things that I like to do all within the field of education. When I get to do my favorite ones, its a good day
Yes for me too. It's not cliche, but https://t.co/XVEuOhOOkO
A4: life coach... my faith helps to guide those crazy decisions. Sometimes you just have to give it up and pray about it!
Sounds like you've got yourself an amazing librarian!
agreed Liz! balance is different for everyone!
Great analogy for all educators. https://t.co/TmpVFWAS3B
Remember, put your oxygen mask on before you help others. Perspective: take care of yourself so that you can save others!
Yeah, some people only need 3 hours of sleep. That is NOT me but if that works for them :)....
A5 I think it gets down to.. "Do the right things wrong (at first) & improve over time" than "do the wrong things right"..
Yes but forgiving ourselves is so important otherwise how do we go on and take chances
This reminds me of "run to eat or eat to run." I have recently changed it to just "eat."
I need one too. Will you be my life coach? 😄
Now THAT is a little troubling lol! Love it!
A5 What we're talking about methinks is change. We know it's hard. We know what's best for us. What will it take for us to do?
I know my dad was always working. Mom was mostly stay at home. Work drove her nuts so she quit!
Purpose drives me everyday! I surround myself with kindred spirits!
Seriously. This is big time https://t.co/q34nqRm7lv
A4) Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. - Ferris Bueller
A6: I do find myself checking my email on my phone at 10:30 at night sometimes. That’s a problem.
A5- really the most important thing is my boys. They always bring me back down to earth. We're a team. https://t.co/uNElUOlZCW
A5:May not ever have enough 🕔 to do everything we want to, but our achievements in those hours should encourage you to keep going
A5: Of course my perception along with my goals influence my work/balance. Lately I feel the need to try new lessons. Motivation.
just don't know if the idea that people didn't used to work at home has real validity or just nostalgia
I'm always telling teachers take care of yourself and take care of your family. https://t.co/suMWd7JvNA
Remember, put your oxygen mask on before you help others. Perspective: take care of yourself so that you can save others!
A5 If I think of teaching as my vocation, that perspective tells me to give until it hurts and there goes balance out the window.
A6: No the topic is not moot blended learning is just another ball to juggle.
Do you ever use hands for that or just feet. I need a feet only sport besides running.
A5 Shh.. Work/life balance was a LOT harder when my kids (3 daughters) were littles. Adults it’s easier/fulfilling.
A6: I think gives us an opportunity to focus on and do what we truly care about more often, no matter where.
Educators learning from a HS kid ditching school. FB gets it! LOL https://t.co/QBpAK8Axej
Seriously. This is big time https://t.co/q34nqRm7lv
A4) Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. - Ferris Bueller
. Thanks, Marcia. I put my thinking cap on specifically for this one!
I think it's a mix. They didn't have the pervasive technology so it wasn't as easy.
A5) Perspective matters. Can change how one works. Poor outlook can carry forward to your personal life https://t.co/usiNrImYKA
A5 More & more I’m a sounding-board, someone to bounce ideas off of. Is that work-life balance, too?
We asked for a cat on a skateboard? No remembro.
A6- absolutely! The ability to connect at the touch of a finger has it drawbacks. It's easy to get sucked in.
A6: Back to my faith... I was blessed with talents so that I can serve others. I serve the Lord... It's his work! Crazy huh?
A6: Think we have to stake out time/ground properly when dealing w/online classes, work assignments, etc. They can take over!
But we also do a lot more home stuff @ work too. Well maybe not teachers ...
Are tweetchats "work?" I would like to think not but they do qualify as blended learning.
A6: Hmm...interesting question for this. It helped in a way because I am able to learn on my own time.
that is a wolf if my memory works
Depends, are you being asked easy stuff, hard stuff, can you fix it, or only listen?
A5: Some folks are "job" people. I struggle w/ this; I want to work with folks on the same mission! https://t.co/nJM9rehCG5
A5 perspectives influence priorities.Right now early childhood literacy & at-promise readers getting on level are top of my list.
A6: my work/life is a blended environment, not moot bc it's connected bc it's available at my fingertips
I guess it depends what your role is in a twitter chat as to whether or not it is work.
Lurker, learner, host...
Dunno. In the end they decide & live with it. I get asked the gamut: where to live, health care, taxes, schools?
they will tell you lots of things about the "younger generation" how much is really true?
A6) The lines are blurred. My Ed.D. was through distance learning. School, school. and home seriously overlapped.
I get this, I've viewed it as a calling too. My second career and it found me. Hard to find a divide b/c of this.
Yep. We are now expected to keep up with Twit FB, LinkedIn, Virtual edcamps, Real ones, classes, individ. lessons
When I give advice that's followed it sometimes ends bad. What seems to work is they know the path to take already
Q6: Technology has really made it hard for me to stop. As soon as I get an idea I look it up and pin it or email myself.
I would say even teachers do too
Nicely stated, Tina! Definitely food for thought! https://t.co/CyABrltxlF
A5:May not ever have enough 🕔 to do everything we want to, but our achievements in those hours should encourage you to keep going
A6 Blended learning can help w/balance or make it harder. It's all in how we manage it.
My exact struggle… https://t.co/PKTzPSRP8T
A6) The lines are blurred. My Ed.D. was through distance learning. School, school. and home seriously overlapped.
A6 it is especially if you are a integrator or innovator on campus. I feel TS & Ps depend on you because you can blend
oh my! brings back fund memories!!! fav was montgomery moose...loved that caboose clubhouse
I thought so too but then reread and saw we only get 4!
A6) I think the line is blurred for keeping balance with a blended classroom. Are you ever "not connected" or thinking of your S?
They can take over. You have to prioritize! Some days work life is heavy, some days personal time is heavy https://t.co/v8d4A5vgHq
A6: Think we have to stake out time/ground properly when dealing w/online classes, work assignments, etc. They can take over!
My Coping Strategies page https://t.co/23le1FqNbn Sometimes we have to put away our tech devices & plan more family time & play
Kids really are grounding, aren't they? I wouldn't stay at work late even if I wanted to b/c my kids rock too!
A6: has put work in our pocket 24/7...we can respond quickly but I don't think we should feel bad if we can't
because sleep is required for memory, we lust rest to be our best!
I go to bed at 10 pm, but I hear you. I check mine continually. Don't know why. Usually nothing happens.
A6 I think it is used as an excuse for most not to try
There's so much out there and so many possibilities. Having someone to bounce ideas off of helps too!
https://t.co/urFhlH3ruw
Q6: Technology has really made it hard for me to stop. As soon as I get an idea I look it up and pin it or email myself.
Sounds more like spa than work.
A6 Turning it off is hard.
Amazing to me too that I can go throw the football w/our 12 yr old & all is right in the world!
Q7: Check this list of balance tips. What are your thoughts on lists of tips like this? Use them? https://t.co/6m5qXuCYqn
. I agree. Hence why I asked. Learning and how to make it better for Ss and myself is always on my mind.
Yep, bandwidth is definitely a problem at times w/so much communicating going on!
A6: I find it (technology) empowering to know I can be there for my Ts even when I'm not on campus bc I'm only a message away!
A6) Read Forbes article that high % of millennials report wanting more work-life integration Blendedlearning can be tool for this
. Any tips for managing it favorably, Liz?
Your tweet made me think... Isn't learning rooted with real world experiences?
https://t.co/vgYnLyozGQ
A6) The lines are blurred. My Ed.D. was through distance learning. School, school. and home seriously overlapped.
A6 tech, blended environments, etc. has allowed me to come home instead of staying in school till late. It's made life safer.
A7 Lists are great for people who make/use lists. They’re places to start for sure. Thing is, how to find ones that click for us?
A7: Lists like these are helpful for clarifying the problem areas…but actually addressing them? Much harder… :-/
A6 Or read a tweet, email it 2check out link. follow new chat. check out an app. Finger on iPad https://t.co/QHrUQeY9dz
Q6: Technology has really made it hard for me to stop. As soon as I get an idea I look it up and pin it or email myself.
A7: Some nuggets of wisdom: lists, saying no both helpful. Leaving work at work? I don't always want to. Enjoy my work! Outdated?
. This does mean you do homework then, bring it home. You still prefer it. Safer b/c of travel in darkness?
it even sort of looks like you and me
Learning to say no is my new favorite thing. If I want to I need to focus on my goals! It's hard but NO helps
A7: I use them especially the one that says learn to say NO!
But what's stressful? If we love what we do it's not work/stress. Like serving in the Navy.. doing good work
. Then it's play and we want to do it here, there, and everywhere!
. Millennials probably have a better handle on than we Gen Xers do. Born into it. We had to learn.
I read Barbie to a 1st grade cl at a girls req. Boys groaned. Guess who was following me around like puppies?
Clearly but I think the challenge is balancing time with family, friends, loved ones, etc
That is true, sometimes it's hard to manage when to "turn off" what I am thinking/doing as well
The biggest challenge is this: I’m here for my students. It’s really all for them, right? How can I “settle” then?
Because rest is required for memory, we must rest to be at our best.
. Not to try to keep separate work and life? That's an interesting perspective. Why make an excuse? Easier?
Q7: I try to do some of those but my biggest problem is losing track of time and becoming creative late at night. Need to sleep
A7 Lists like this are a good reminder. I need to work on "learning to say no".
A7: I need to do a better job of self care. Immune system is down right now.
Everyone has responsibilities. Kids are just another type of these.
A7- man... Learning to say no is a hard one. I need to practice that. Maybe in the mirror first
A7 this list is based on what someone believes is balanced. Our chat 2night has shown that we all have different definitions.
Enter the soundboard, aka PLN! https://t.co/nEJmumrEUD

Q6: Technology has really made it hard for me to stop. As soon as I get an idea I look it up and pin it or email myself.
learning is about making connections. I visualize a dreamcatcher when learning STICKS.
I believe there is power in building capacity in others. This allows me to give focus and attention to other matters.
youput your focus there and clear out things that don't improve your students. It's all great but have clear priorities
Yes, something does tend to go, and you've indicated a few of the things that do. Sad.
Yeah, I guess life can be just a stressful so good point!
I don't think I've ever done this either. Done plenty of the opposite, as have we all!
You have to pace yourself. Otherwise you won't be able to be there for your Ss. (yes, I'm talking to me too.)
Thanks Will be checking my email for all the links you shared. Have a great week if you're not on SB if yes enjoy.
Totally agree! It's hard to slow down.
it is! However, focus on what really matters. If it isn't advancing my family or my students.Do I really have time?
Good point! I'm technically a millennial + article resonates. I prefer work/life integrated; can't compartmentalize
All work and no play makes a teacher a little neurotic. Our work can be playful too! But not-work play is also important.
I always think about what you will regret if you don't do today. Spending time with my family is one of those.
Q7b: One thing I do that helps is that I don't keep my phone in my bedroom. I feel it stresses me out.
A7) With increased digital tools, it's very tempting to not leave work at school. Important to keep time for your self and relax
Maybe. I wonder how much we believe generations change when it takes ages for species to evolve.
A7: The funny thing about trying to have a work/life balance as Ts some ppl try to make you feel guilty and thats not fair
My husband says the exact same thing. My kids tell me to stop as well.
Please join us in thanking the HARD WORKING for hosting tonight. Great topic!
We seem to value play a lot more than we used to or at least external busyness - not work related
Cool thought/action provoking chat
. Generation talk is just another way to divide and conquer us, I think. Peg us against each other.
A7) Uhmm.... I read through to the one that says "Sleep"
Those who laugh & play together stay together, collaborate better together & grow together too. https://t.co/XURiwuSk6v
All work and no play makes a teacher a little neurotic. Our work can be playful too! But not-work play is also important.
A7) A "to do" list certainly helps me focus. Self care is critical to stay mentally and emotionally healthy.
THANK YOU!! Love your links!
Thanks so much for moderating tonight's
Apologies for only being here for a few.
I remind people all the time that I have 24-48 hours to respond to email. Sometimes it just takes that long...
I hadn't made that connection yet. I have in other areas socio-economic, race, etc. Good observation.
Thank you for leading us in such a fun & important conversation this evening! Greatly appreciated!
A7 how do you say no to people who are above you? Ps, admin, directores.
heres my side. I set my own bal, it tips to school. Ppl try to guilt me, why? My time my decision, isnt it?
Yeah, I don't get the 5 min rule!
So true! I feel the best when I can look back on a day at all the Ss and Ts lives I have touched!
This was so encouraging; I’m glad I stopped in for a bit, friends. Teach well!
