CatholicEdChat is a twitter chat. Topics focus on discussions around educational issues for Catholic Educators and topics beneficial to Catholic Schools. We look forward to continuing to connect Catholic Educators online to discuss education and teaching with faith in our schools. The chat takes place on Saturday mornings. Time 9am EST.
Good morning, #CatholicEdChat! Justin here, theology teacher in my twelfth year at Bishop McNamara High School in Forestville, Maryland (Archdiocese of Washington).
Mary Beth, HS math in NorCal. Will be leaving early today - in Pacific Grove for @CAMathCouncil meeting. Heard the amazing @joboaler speak last night! #CatholicEdChat
With you in solidarity, @kevenrinaman. My eight-month-old is asleep on my chest, my two- and four-year-olds are watching a Bible program here in the living room with me, and my wife has our six-year-old at CCD. #CatholicEdChat
Adam, 5/6 social studies, Brooklyn, Ohio! I'll be in for a bit...breakfast with Santa at my parish this morning! Have to go see the Big Guy soon! #catholicedchat
Q1: Advent prayer is a special tradition @St_Michaels_GF with gathering with other classes and doing readings, service projects, and songs. #catholicedchat
A1: We will have a school-wide Mass on Monday (December 4). Our peer ministers (some of the seniors) often produce a Christ Child-centered video as well. #CatholicEdChat
Amongst the traditional prayer services and Masses, this is our second year running #AdventInAction where classes take a day during Advent and live out a theme from @loyolapress’s Advent Calendar #CatholicEdChat
A1: we have a weekly all school prayer service...we have a couple prayer buddy activities...this year we are adding in a 5-8 retreat day! #catholicedchat
We (my class) are making advent wreaths to take home. Father will come to school Monday to bless them, parents are invited to join us and then will take the wreath home #catholicedchat
All days have been filled out! First post tomorrow morning is a cute video from our pre-school! Teachers are excited to participate. Opened it to ALL classes this year, not just religion. #CatholicEdChat
I will be updating the calendar that will be embedded in the front of our schools website each day, but also posting to our social media channels with #AdventInAction each day as well #CatholicEdChat
School theme-Angels We Have Heard in High. Door decorations based on Christmas Hymns, Christmas Concert, Service project of Blessing Bags for WARM and @CMRCSCN#CatholicEdChat
I’ve been perusing resources here ... Advent joy weaves with final exam stress so trying to help S and Ts still find the wonder... https://t.co/sFuy7oEW0p#CatholicEdChat
I’m a tech coach/librarian from Louisiana coming in late. We made an Advent wreath out of books but looking for other library Advent ideas #CatholicEdChat
A2: each room has an Advent wreath and decorations (going in later to decorate)...faculty takes a large role in spreading the message of preparing for Christ's birth through planning of services. #catholicedchat
I made a template for any other schools interested in trying it this year. It is in Google Slides format and you’ll need to “make a copy..” to use.

A2: I have a set of rather decent-quality ceramic Nativity figurines that I got from the Dollar Tree years back. I set it up in the front of the classroom and wait until after we have returned from the Christmas break to place the Christ Child in the manger. #CatholicEdChat
A1: We do an Advent drive every year for local and global charities. Happy to be supporting @CNHighSchool this year - campus devasted by Santa Rosa fires. #CatholicEdChat
We are off on Fri for Holy Day so our rector wanted to have a feast day like in Europe day before so we are having Academic Support in morning, Mass with Marian Procession, and then kickball tourney in afternoon with free burgers and pops (mind, spirit, body) #CatholicEdChat
Does anyone handle ending all of the advent prep prior to Christmas due to days off? I am doing Jesse Tree in my room? Do them all before or catch up after? #catholicedchat
A2. Our teachers do a Jesse Tree devotion for morning prayer. Can't find the picture, but we use an old tree branch, hang Jesse Tree ornaments. #CatholicEdChat
First just admitted there is a disconnect in the season! All school morning prayer centers on acknowledging stress & fear yet handing over to God the comforter. SJs do great homilies this time of year too. #CatholicEdchat
In the past we kept our advent wreaths at school and packed the last prayers in before the break. This year the wreaths will go home Monday with prayers for families, I will still do candle lighting on class wreath, not sure whether I'll finish early or catch up #catholicedchat
We are having a classroom prayer service on Monday to open, I have combined a few resources. Each day we add a symbol that has short scripture on the back. Let me grab the resources, I'll share. #CatholicEdChat
I always find this time it is critical for us, as educators/leaders, to live our faith a little more “out loud”. Our students & colleagues need lived experience with mercy, love, & compassion. #CatholicEdChat
This week @NeumannLeaders held an open house for Wardrobes for Work giving away 1500 pieces of work ready attire to help others #CatholicEdChat Awesome support from all who donated! @NeumannUniv
A2: currently, my class is participating in a Holiday Card Exchange with other students around the world. First cards in from Belarus. These students celebrate the New Year and have Father Frost. @iEARNUSA#CatholicEdchat

"One Candle is Lit," a song for Advent and Christmas #catholicedchat this is a new favourite, but I love all Christmas/advent music https://t.co/KeY5yajF8d
I too like "Mary, Did You Know?" I know that some people have some strong opinions about it (and, yes, we acknowledge that, of course, "Mary knew"), but... the questions affirm Mary's fidelity and her co-operation with God's will in the midst of the Incarnation. #CatholicEdChat

A4/1:Personally, I focus more on Jesuit #examen. Having an attitude of gratitude helps me realize what this season is about—not things. #catholicedchat
A4/2: #Examen activity for Advent season—take each day and write a thank you letter to someone about how they have helped you. An idea I came across ... #catholicedchat
Not necessarily Advent related, but I’d love to make a whole “Saint of the Day” calendar that is collaborated with Schools from around the world. #CatholicEdChat
Using "Wandering Wisemen" for Advent preparation instead of "Elf on a Shelf" @BarbInNebraska you are one smart woman! I will be purchasing some classroom Wisemen today. :) #CatholicEdChat
I need some help, #CatholicEdChat. This is not precisely regarding Advent, but in a way it is. I am compiling a book of prayers, and want to hear from you: what types of prayers do you like to use in class? Please inbox me (I think you have to follow me first) with ideas. Thanks!
A3: Forgot to mention Advent prayer ornaments. Students write a prayer, place inside an ornament and use Advent season for that intention. The tree is in classroom. #CatholicEdchat
