Q1: In #Culturize, we discuss the premise that each one of us is responsible for our own morale. What do you and others in your organization do to promote & maintain a positive mindset for students & for each other? #TLAP
A1: We try to check in with each other as teachers during prep periods to see how each other is doing. That and never complain about schoolwide Activities, assemblies, surveys, etc. #tlap
A1: have a gratitude board in my classroom so that Ss can show #gratitude for even the smallest of things. Talk to Ss and Ts and truly listen to responses, offer support. #tlap
A1 Students greet and give high-fives and fist bumps to students as they leave for the day. Students AND staff are in it for the kids! #tlap#kidsdeserveit
1: Model positivity and enthusiasm daily. Try to pump the kids up as they get off the bus and get the staff excited by giving out lots of positive feedback #tlap
A1: Morale so important and often overlooked! I've been trying to bring in fun activities for staff meetings - quick ice breakers, team builders. Make everyone smile. I learned a lot from @casas_jimmy during #futurereadysummit! #tlap
A1 Keeping positive company can make all the difference. So lucky to have ppl like @RichHayzler@MichaelPortas and @EScillieri in my professional world to reinforce that positive energy! #tlap
A1: focus on and celebrate positives. Find the good in all situations and build off those connections. Encourage, support, and promote all in the community! #tlap
A1: Promoting a culture of #failforward so that students see failing as a positive learning experience to grow from, not a permanent, negative experience. #tlap
A1 I am all about kindness and sharing positive messages daily. Do so on my Twitter. Turn to my PLN to always keep positivity and spread joy. We all need reminders, support, encouragement. We need to build relationships, create family and have fun. #TLAP

Q1: In #Culturize, we discuss the premise that each one of us is responsible for our own morale. What do you and others in your organization do to promote & maintain a positive mindset for students & for each other? #TLAP
A1: I tell my students and staff all the time that "you can't control what _______ does/says, but you can control what you do, and how you react to certain situations. It's about knowing what's within our control, and focusing on the wins! #tlap
A1- Being that I supervise one of the less popular subjects, I’m very big on making sure everyone promotes positive math mindsets. No one is allowed to say they are “not a math person” or they get a reminder smile from me! #TLAP
A1: I spend time building relationships. I want students and teachers to know that I am there to support them, encourage them and believe in them. Dropping anchor messages of support throughout the day has been helpful. Surround yourself with "awesomizers!!" #tlap#culturize
Well today I welcomed students to the classroom with a fireplace going and joyful piano holiday music. They really noticed that and it sets the mood for the week. Calm. Joyful. #tlap A1
A1: Began recognizing staff for their PRIDE (Passion, Resilience, Integrity, Dedication, & Excellence). Staff nominate each other and I announce recipients weekly, w/ what their colleague had to say about them. I then present certificate to them & their class celebrates #tlap
A1. Really try to be positive even when it's tough. It's been a hard year, but you go back and make the next period, day, week better than the week before. This is contagious with Ss. If you're not knocked off your horse, Ss can see & model perseverance! #tlap
Q1: In #Culturize, we discuss the premise that each one of us is responsible for our own morale. What do you and others in your organization do to promote & maintain a positive mindset for students & for each other? #TLAP

We share kindness with one another and with our students! Just today I saw a string of holiday lights where students could showcase that they had written a note of appreciation for someone else. Small acts of kindness make a HUGE impact! #tlap
Q1: In #Culturize, we discuss the premise that each one of us is responsible for our own morale. What do you and others in your organization do to promote & maintain a positive mindset for students & for each other? #TLAP

Also, to check in with every student at least twice during the semester in class and see how they are doing toward their goal, and offering to help outside of the usual instruction. #tlap
yes - in a way it's "if you can't beat them join them!" We know Ss are all about the holidays - why not have fun with them instead of forcing seriousness for a bit?! #tlap
A1 remain faithful to the philosophy of education that I have established throughout my career. Continue to set and pursue goals. Seek out my own professional development & not wait for others. My PD is my responsibility. #tlap
A1 If we are each responsible for our own morale, we would never make it, we need others to lean on every once in a while... #tlaphttps://t.co/rR3bIrW9Dp
A1: Man...this can be a struggle for me..I’ve really been making a completely conscious effort to do exactly this lately. Starting with surrounding myself with others in my profession who are positive and then seeking it out on Twitter or another outlet if it’s a hard day. #TLAP
A1: Smile. Make positive connections. Wave at students when they leave every day. Say hi to every student and teacher you see in the hallway. Small things make a big difference! #TLAP
A1 We create positive learning environments by helping students connect their learning to their own values, especially when they struggle. Why is that struggle worthwhile? How can we use that struggle as a compass to show us we’re doing important work? #TLAP

A1. We had a saying in my classroom called “the windshield.” In life you have to look forward. Glance in the rearview mirror so u don’t make same mistakes. But always focus forward. No grudges. Kids often said “the windshield” to each other. It was awesome #TLAP#Culturize

#tlap A1: Everyone has a purpose; recognize what they do well. Ask for advice, learn something new, give compliments, write them a note, or write them a poem.

#tlap
A1: I think it's easier for me to do than other people cause I'm a hopeless optimist so I try to spread positive vibes and help people take negativity less to heart. #TLAP
"Circle of Concern" vs. "Circle of Control" amazing how we can all make a difference when we take care of what we can control, and then our "Circle of Influence" broadens... #tlap

A2 As an admin, my job is to aspire to inspire! We need leaders in our profession. You don’t have to be a principal to lead. It takes one mission, a common vision and a team looking through the same lens! #TLAP

That's amazing. Can't imagine that happening in my district. We are starting PLCs and the early dismissall is one way I've seen PLCs work in other areas - not even on the table for us. #tlap

Amen! I wouldn’t be who I am today without excellent role models as teachers and principals. Even as a teacher and then an admin, I continue to learn from my peers. Makes it even more important that we have the right people in the right places for kids. #tlap#Culturize

Q2: We need to change the perceptions that cause some to believe that teaching & administrative roles are not worth pursuing. Please share a few thoughts on why others should aspire a career as an educator? #Culturize#TLAP@burgessdave

#tlap
A2: It's an opportunity to sharpen your interpersonal skills while building empathy & perspective. It also allows you to give back the knowledge you've acquired from your own educational experiences. #tlap
A2: you get to influence more Ts. In Hebrew we use the phrase "four cubits ; within someone's area, in someone's territory". So if you're "just" a T your four cubits are smaller than an Admin.
#TLAP
A2.2: I get so frustrated with Ts I know that do countdowns to the end of the year...(this number of Mondays to summer!). If that's all you want, your focus is wrong! That is not the way MOST Ts are! Ts do the best for Ss! #tlap

A3: Especially on days when I’m struggling, I say to myself—Make at least one person’s day today. Make a connection where there wasn’t one. Make the hard to reach student feel extra special. Thank 3 colleagues and make them feel appreciated—genuinely..#tlap
A3 The ability to choose, in any context, a meaningful life guided by values is what it means to be empowered. Empowerment is the opposite of burnout. #TLAP
I think it goes back to building relationships and trust. We have to be willing to show our own vulnerability—-let others see we too make mistakes and can learn from them. #tlap

In reply to
@casas_jimmy, @burgessdave, @burgessdave
A3. I called every suspended student: “Johnny I know ur suspended but I wish you weren’t. You are an important part of my class and I’ll miss you while you’re gone. Just want to let you know how much I care.” #TLAP#Culturize
A3. Listening to Ss voice and choice in the classroom and also giving the Ss the opportunity to own their own learning. Let the Ss lead the way! Show them we care and believe in them! #tlap

Q4: If students & staff are always asking for permission, we must invest more in building capacity. In what ways can we as teachers & school leaders be more intentional in growing our student & staff leaders? #Culturize#TLAP@burgessdave
A3 Hold a courageous conversation when you think you notice a check out. Listen and ask questions more than you offer advice. Just be there for your student/colleague. So much of the time we try to infect rather than support. #TLAP
Q3: In what ways can we ensure that we as adults are contributing to a culture that champions for all kids & colleagues, including those who appear to have checked out? #Culturize#TLAP@burgessdave
Leadership was never meant to be a committee of one. Trying to lead all by yourself will eventually take its toll on you. It will come at a heavy price – your health or your family. Both are loser deals for you. #Culturize#TLAP
A3. Take every moment to build and affirm Ss and Ts. Build S strengths and help them cultivate gifts.. especially those who have checked out. Bring 'em back in! make them KNOW they're worth it! #tlap
A4: have a clear vision for students and staff to follow. People seek permission less when they know their actions align with making the vision come to life. #tlap
A1: #tlap#culturize we start the year with a read aloud, Wonder, that encourages students to #bekind even when it is difficult. We continuously remind each other how strongly we felt during the book and how important it is to live the things we’ve learned through reading.
A4: listen to S and T ideas while trying to grow and develop leaders. As always, having a voice and choice in any process allows for true buy in. #tlap
A4: Educators/Ss have the capacity--they have the ability to amazing things. We need to inspire them to believe in themselves, we need to help them feel strong and powerful. Then they will move mountains. #tlap
A4: provide more opportunities love #leadlap for student ownership, encourage staff to step out of their comfort zone, find ways to help them share their strengths, give over some staff meetings for staff to lead #TLAP
A4: There are tons of things Ss & Ts seem to think they need permission for, so push them to see outside THAT box. Lead them by the hand if need be, but push them toward doing rather than asking where appropriate. Model doing. #tlap
A4: Give permission to try something new and even if it fails, celebrate stepping out of the comfort zone that is a trap for mediocrity. #tlap#Culturize

A3: Ensure that both Ss and Teachers have #agency. Involve all stakeholders and allow them to have a voice in the vision and mission of the school. Keep everyone engaged through positive and constructive #collaboration. #Tlap
A4 Encourage our of the box thinking, simply acknowledging when people do things, give ideas value. Thank people for contributing, greatness is happening everyday #tlap
A3: Ss need us to maintain positive attitudes no matter the situation. They rely on adults to lead the way. Positivity can be infectious for Ts as well. Need all stakeholders on same page #tlap
A4: We have launched pinenapple classrooms and provide coverage for teachers to obesrve in other classrooms with coaches supporting their ideas and desires to integrate their observations into their own classes #tlap#leadlap
A4 Find the Great and celebrate it. Honor the "try" even if it ends in failure. Have the discussions of innovation and trailblazing. Be there regardless with a fist bump and a kind word. #tlap
Q4: If students & staff are always asking for permission, we must invest more in building capacity. In what ways can we as teachers & school leaders be more intentional in growing our student & staff leaders? #Culturize#TLAP@burgessdave
A4 As admin I try to ID strengths of staff and give them point on projects in which the can excel. Reinforces their self value and builds capacity! #tlap

Those who may have checked out may just need more kindness, support, love, encouragement. Build relationships...when you lead with heart, you can move mountains. #TLAP
A4 Proving more leadership opportunities for both staff and students. People tend to grow into new roles as we give them more trust and responsibility #tlap#culturize
Q4: If students & staff are always asking for permission, we must invest more in building capacity. In what ways can we as teachers & school leaders be more intentional in growing our student & staff leaders? #Culturize#TLAP@burgessdave
A3 my most ever, EVER, challenging student grew up and married my baby daughter, and is a phenomenal part of our family - don’t EVER give up on them 💙‼️#TLAP
Amen! Not only that, but you keep encouraging the ones who have given up or just don’t work for what they say they want. Defiance doesn’t always mean rejection, it can indicate despair. #tlap
A4: Create a framework for leading based on a clearly defined set of core values & then share them w/others. These values will be the foundation of your decisions & behaviors, empowering others to want to model those same beliefs/behaviors. #Culturize#TLAP
A4: I try to be a leader in all aspects of my life. I want to lead with integrity and encourage others to do the same. As teachers, we are truly role models and have a responsibility to carry that out. #tlap
A4: Trust, encourage risk taking, support ideas even if they may be different than your way...most of all listen and learn not matter what your role and who is giving the information. Treat the Custodian, Principal, BOE, teacher, same with respect #Culturize#TLAP@burgessdave
A4: If staff really understand a clear mission and vision, it's easier to inspire teacher leadership--admin will approve initiatives that promote the mission and vision ! #tlap
Q4: If students & staff are always asking for permission, we must invest more in building capacity. In what ways can we as teachers & school leaders be more intentional in growing our student & staff leaders? #Culturize#TLAP@burgessdave
If your staff has to ask permission I question the quality of your culture ... like requiring kids to ask permission to use bathroom when it is in your room. #tlap
A3: Every individual counts!! It’s so important that no one gets overlooked or left behind!! We’ve created cohorts to help support staff & do frequent checks on our Ss! It’s about being their for others! #TLAP
A4: my Ss know that it's okay to get it wrong and try again. Learn from those around them. Come up w new ideas. I feel like I can do the same as a T in my building. #tlap
A4: Model risk-taking and give permission to fail. We are going for greatness and only those that never fail, never risk anything and are destined for mediocrity. Give autonomy and step aside #tlap
A4: provide more opportunities love #LearnLAP@PaulSolarz for student ownership, encourage staff to step out of their comfort zone, find ways to help them share their strengths, give over some staff meetings for staff to lead #TLAP

Q4: If students & staff are always asking for permission, we must invest more in building capacity. In what ways can we as teachers & school leaders be more intentional in growing our student & staff leaders? #Culturize#TLAP@burgessdave

Q4: If students & staff are always asking for permission, we must invest more in building capacity. In what ways can we as teachers & school leaders be more intentional in growing our student & staff leaders? #Culturize#TLAP@burgessdave
A4: When you involve people in creating the vision, they know whether their ideas align with the vision or not. No need to ask permission for something that everyone has a vested interest in. #Tlap
Indeed. This is why it’s so very important to work at forming those relationships with our Ss and Ts! You may be the only ray of sunshine someone sees this week! Shine ON, right @LaVonnaRoth? #tlap
A4 voice and choice for students and staff we must build a culture of collaboration and a growth mindset. We must give people ownership and let them know they are valued #TLAP
A4: We can be more intentional at growing leaders by encouraging our student & staff leaders to find their passion, follow what inspires them! Then, offer time and support for them to pursue their talents! #TLAP
A4: ask Ss and Ts what they need. We just asked Ts and admin to complete professional growth surveys to know areas of support, personal & professional. Can easily do same for Ss. Gives all a voice #tlap
#tlap A4: Listen to ideas from Ss and from staff. If we want Ss to voice their opinions and to implement ideas, then they need to be given ways to do that. Everyone can be a leader, but they need to be put into situations to help them become one.
I think reaching out to the unusual suspects do the trick. The people for the job are the people that you might least expect. Look for quiet leadership. #tlap A4
A4: Personally invite others to lead PD based on their skill sets. By doing so, you will be investing in your newer teachers & re-investing in your veteran teachers, thereby cultivating a more cohesive community of staff where everyone supports one another. #Culturize#TLAP
A4: Providing risk-free opportunities to lead; teachers may not want to lead a PD session, but maybe a small book study? Also providing opportunities for students to model, lead and mentor for younger students & their peers as much as possible! #TLAP

A4: Model risk-taking and give permission to fail. We are going for greatness and only those that never fail, never risk anything and are destined for mediocrity. Give autonomy and step aside #tlap
A4: Challenge them to move beyond the status quo and then celebrate when they do. Be their biggest supporters. Share ownership of building goals but do not set limits. Provide the resources and watch them soar!! #tlap
A4: In order for the students to fully grow, we must have an entire learning community with a growth mindset. How the Ts talk to the Ss. How Admin talks to the Ts. It all has to have the end in mind and the overall goal! #tlap
A4: Dude... it's hard to take "hands off" when that's always been the policy from the top. That's a hard question, #Culturize , #TLAP, building capacity seems to be hard for admin to let go of... I must learn more. Teach me, O' Great PD people!
A4: If I am the smartest person in the room, I am in the wrong room. Intentionally build a culture that supports the great people in our school. Listen to kids. Education shouldn’t be done to them. They should get to own it. It’s a right not a commodity. #tlap#Culturize
A4: Allow for voices to be heard, especially student voice. Allow for Ss and Ts to take ownership of ideas. Let them be involved and amazing things will happen. #tlap
Q4: My Ss don’t ask... THEY PITCH! They will tell you that ownership and confidence going into the moment is polar opposite of asking! #empower#Nan3EDU#tlap
A4: promote risk taking and model it as well! Provide support when ideas don't work out well, but help reflect on how to improve. Failure is good when you're free to learn from it! Encourage Ts and Ss to jump in and take risks! #tlap
A3: put them in check. As professionals we have to work to build each other up, but sometimes that means calling someone out. Also, include them in your projects. Excitement is contagious for adults and kids alike. Help them reignite their fire...especially important now #TLAP
A4 Everyone should lead in some capacity. Focus on strengths-based leadership for catalyzing collective efficacy and watch your school soar! Students too! #tlap#Culturize
Q5: There isn’t a day that goes by in the work of a teacher (staff member), or principal that is free of challenges. How do you keep yourself fresh and energized for your students & staff? #Culturize#TLAP@burgessdave
A4: Personally invite others to lead PD based on their skill sets. By doing so, you will be investing in your newer teachers & re-investing in your veteran teachers, thereby cultivating a more cohesive community of staff where everyone supports one another. #Culturize#TLAP
A4: Give them voice and empower them to make their ideas a reality! Absolutely love our Discovery #discosmhs St leaders! They are absolutely AMAZING! #tlap
A4. Know their strengths. Invite them to use those strengths then trust their ability to make it happen. Repeat as much as necessary. Then they are empowered to think and act on their own in more innovative ways. #ccsdtn#tlap#culturize
Q4: If students & staff are always asking for permission, we must invest more in building capacity. In what ways can we as teachers & school leaders be more intentional in growing our student & staff leaders? #Culturize#TLAP@burgessdave
Q5: There isn’t a day that goes by in the work of a teacher (staff member), or principal that is free of challenges. How do you keep yourself fresh and energized for your students & staff? #Culturize#TLAP@burgessdave
A5: MAKE YOUR OWN SNOW! Create leadership opportunities any way you can! Have older Ss mentor younger Ss. Dive into that wild lesson idea and have at it, then share out with a friend! Show others how you CAN - even if it's messy, it's WORTH IT! Be the change! #tlap
Q4: If students & staff are always asking for permission, we must invest more in building capacity. In what ways can we as teachers & school leaders be more intentional in growing our student & staff leaders? #Culturize#TLAP@burgessdave
A5: Start reflecting & quit deflecting. It’s when we take time to pause & reflect that we truly grow as problem solvers & stay fresh. Without reflection there is no growth. #Culturize#TLAP
A4: As a pre-service teacher, I make mistakes, and I am vulnerable. I may not be perfect, but I do reflect and try to improve instead of remaining stagnant. Growth is key. #tlap
A5: It's hard but you have to have to refresh and recharge in your won ways. I like to go to the gym and read. Nothing is better than spending time with kids #tlap
A4: We need to search out & grow leaders who may not see themselves as strong leaders, share the opportunities, be encouraging &supportive, help them have small successes in leadership. Kids and adults need someone as their cheerleader. I'm lucky I've had many. #TLAP
A5: by deliberately taking time for myself daily. Might be walking the dog, sitting on the couch alone or walking the school. Time and space can be freeing and allow me to collect my thoughts and refocus #tlap
Agreed - and even further up the admin ladder. Higher ups need to convey to principals this importance and so on... model from S to superintendent! #tlap
A5 Laugh! Could be a silly joke with Ss, could be something between peers, could be to yourself (behind closed doors, don't let others see you laugh at yourself), but laugh! You'll already be smiling when the next challenge comes. #tlap
