Lauren Peña. 10th grade ELA at Mustang.
Loving playoff basketball. Hoping to see my Celtics beat the Cleveland Lebrons tonight so they’re still playing in June! #oklaed
Tyler Bridges, @k20center Associate Director and @UofOklahoma Doctoral student. I can't wait for June to spend some needed time with my beautiful fam! #oklaed
Josh Flores. PreK-12 ELA Coordinator for Mustang (THE best district). I'm not happy for June. That means school is out! What am I going to do with myself?! #oklaed
Kim, I teach 4th for Norman Public Schools, I am so happy for June because I am headed to California on June 4th with my 3 grown kiddos. #RoadTrip18#oklaed
Chong Lor, English Teacher. I am happy for June, because the summer gives me time to relax, recharge, and reflect on my professional and personal development! Plus, June is my birthday! #oklaed
Happy SUNday, #OKLAED! Lara with #NSUEngEd in Tahlequah. I am happy for June because my birthday is on the first day of summer! I love reading out in the sunshine and spending time with my family outside! ☀️📖
The awesome thing I am doing is taking a short trip w friends, hanging at the lake AND enjoying time w my brand new less than a week old Gdaughter!! :) #OklaEd
A1: Going to Los Angeles (Marina Del Rey, Santa Monica, Venice Beach, etc), Grand Canyon, Vegas, etc. I got a new car last week, and I work for the best district ever. #oklaed Hey, he said to BRAG! #oklaed
A1: Grad School classes, some professional development, Independent Reading and Writing! Also, prepping for my first upcoming official classroom...SO EXCITED!!!!
#oklaed
A1) I’ve already been to my 2nd summer gig for a week, I’ve got started writing #marchingband Drill for clients, I’m doing lots of PD on both personal and professional levels. #oklaed
A1: I’m taking 2 classes for my masters degree and chasing a wild toddler while playing the role of wicked stepmother to the world’s coolest 8 year old. #oklaed
A2: I found an awesome way for Ss to self-assess. I implemented new forms of technology into my classroom that my Ss loved. I started fostering 2 amazing babies. I am in the process of adopting my 2 babies. #oklaed
Wow - there were so many great highlights to the year. I think we all learned a lot from the teacher walkout. We learned how incredibly brave, determined and resilient teachers are when they collectively join together for purpose! #Oklaed
A2: Making the decision to stay in Oklahoma and fight the good fight! Glad I accepted the position! Not only did I get the honor to learn from the best, but now I get the honor to work with and be part of the best! Thanks #oklaed!
A2: I stepped way out of my comfort zone and into admin. I sometimes miss my students. A lot. But I’ve grown a lot, too. And also, grants. Lots of grant writing with @GauntTonya@vperezy & @MrsHime#oklaed
A2. #TeamDrLara PhinisheD! And I was honored with the NSU Circle of Excellence Award in Teaching. 🥇 Both are testimonies of hard work that has been peer-reviewed and acknowledged. Nothing means more than the respect of your colleagues and students. #OKLAED
A2 1) successfully used Google Classroom w/ my firsties. We CREATED a lot with GSuite; fell in love with Chromebooks. 2) POE Merit award finalist #oklaed
A2:Through our District Strategic Plan, we implemented STEAM throughout our district...saw amazing learning with students... AND we received the Oklahoma Striving Readers Comprehnsive Literacy Grant for our Students! #oklaed
A2 1/Zero minutes offline for our online assessment system from Labor Day though April. :)
2/Finally got the formatting and legend for our new OAS Summative Objective Analysis report right! #oklaed@AlphaPlusEdu
We also learned how critically important advocacy for #oklaed is gong forward to keep the momentum toward investing in our kids and schools. We must be strategic and purposeful in our efforts moving fwd. #OklaEd
A2: I got some fun stuff co-publised with Dr. @MrsSearcy112, I got to watch @lauren_pena16 teach and that was AMAZ-ING, and I did my first real keynote thing thanks to the support of friends like @MrsBeck25! I surrounded myself with people smarter than me! #oklaed
A3: I think at the end of each year every T feels like they could have done more in their subject. I teach all subjects so there is a lot i wish I would have done.. but it really has nothing to do with any subject. I hope I loved them as much as they needed from me. #oklaed
A2: I learned so much that I need to put it all into action next year! I was an instructional coach this year, but am going back to the classroom next year.!! I will be teaching 6th-grade math and science. I just couldn't handle not doing it. :) #Oklaed
A3 Fully Student-run school store, all resources updated on Follett Destiny, didn’t real all the Sequoyah books, no real literary club...now I am a bit sad. #oklaed
A2: And then there was the time I took a road trip with Dr. @scoreCrag. I stayed busy during #NCTE17 & #CEL17 and was elected to the CEL board this year which is dope. And had my first official out-of-state consultation opportunities this year. Which was very on fleek. #Oklaed
There are always things that seem to not quite get checked off the list! I wanted to spend more time in classrooms and wanted to wrap up our strategic plan a little sooner! Always more to do! #OklaEd
A3.) implementing more creative lessons that were more fun for the students. Got caught up trying to stay afloat most of the year. He upcoming year will be different though! #oklaed
A3 I did not engage when I probably should have. ... More than one time.
I swear no matter how long I live, I think I will always regret the things I didn't do more than the things I did. #oklaed
#OKLAED asked for a list, so maybe we just need to post our CV of awesome PD presentations and publications! We accomplished so much #ELAOK & #NCTE greatness this year! Year Highlights!
A4: It's the little things that make the most difference. So many students admired the fact that I greeted them with a smile every day outside of my classroom prior to the beginning of class. I shall continue to do this even more next year...with my guitar! #oklaed
A4) easy! Classroom management techniques learned from my mentor teacher I was paired with. I was too nice and not consistent enough to maximize class time. #oklaed
A4: I learned to give my Students more voice. More say so in what happens in their classroom. I learned that It's okay to not have complete control al the time. This was an area of struggle for me. I learned compromise. #oklaed I want them to feel valued.
A4. All of my #ReadSearchED notes! I’m excited to apply a lot more #VisibleLearning and #180Days into #NSUEngEd curriculum. Always finding ways to promote critical reading/writing to promote critical thinking #OKLAED
A3: Ugh... that's a long list...
1. Power Standards
2. Standards-based Report cards
3. Guest teach in every grade-band
4. Visit every PLC in the district
5. Lead a PD event at a local brewery
6. Get accepted to ILA
.... it goes on.
#Oklaed
This is a hugely important life fact to learn. As @craiggroeschel says often, "say no to the small things so that you can say YES to the big things." #oklaed
A4 Google Classroom and GSuite (hands down)! 2) Flipgrid— found some creative ways to use it to extend lessons 3) flipping my class for those that could work independently. #oklaed
A4: I haven’t been doing enough to support a positive classroom climate. I know my kids and they respect me, but they stick with their own groups in my room and don’t get to know each other.
I know how to do it. I just have to be more deliberate from the start. #oklaed
A4) I learned once and for all there are things that are completely out of my control. As proactive as I think I am, I'm sometimes caught completely and totally off guard. I learned that sometimes I have to let it go. #frozenismythemesong#oklaed
A4: Pre-K kids can do a helluva lot more than we know. We (adults) are usually holding them back! Oh, and the responsibilities principals have are outrageous. I have a much deeper appreciation for them. They crazy. But we probably made 'em that way. #Oklaed
A5) catalyst 1 day. Great leadership qualities learned to better my athletes and assistant coaches. How to not micromanage and learn to delegate jobs. #oklaed
A5: The best PD I attended was the Oklahoma Readers Association. WHY???
"Consonants are the noise and vowels are the music of language!"
Donald Bear #oklaed
We had Ron Clark at the beginning of the year and he was fantastic. We loved working on our strategic plan and digging in w Staff and community w meaningful conversation. Reflective conversation w any PLC & maneuvering the Teacher walkout w others was huge as a leader. #oklaed
A5. I always appreciate how great you all to let my students attend. I over to see things click for them and them to attend on their own #oklaed. New blood and enthusiasm makes for great pd
A5. #OKLAED has amazing leaders, so there was so much awesome PD. Does the #OKLAEDwalkout count? I loved seeing the strengthening of our collective teacher efficacy— the belief that together, #OKLAED can succeed! And it was an amazing opportunity to bring communities together!
A5: Either #OkCTE Fall Conference or AP Summer Institute. As a newbie to ELA, these experiences were indispensable*. #oklaed
*full disclosure: I misspelled indispensable the first time. #thankyouautocorrect
A5 @Tolerance_org workshop last month gave me tools, skills, and language that I desperately needed. @DesignMakeTeach hands-on at @TCEA changed how I think about #makerspace & how I can offer PD to those who don’t already love it. #oklaed
A5: I attended a lot, but the best is when I get to read stuff I'm interested in learning about! I loved digging into @VisibleLearning -anything by Hattie, @DFISHERSDSU, and Frey and LOVE #180Days by @KellyGToGo and @pennykittle! Those are hard texts/experiences to top! #Oklaed
A6: This I need to work on. I need to disengage from social media. but I do workout #CrossFit, and that helps me relieve the stress. but I do need to work on taking legit breaks from the world. #oklaed#goals
A5) I spent one entire day at the "walkout" just walking the circle and talking to teachers both young and old, ones I've worked with and ones I met while walking. Best PD for me by far. #oklaed
#oklaed A5 Our own teachers sharing how to use #seesaw more effectively. @jefferson_first use apps with kids. Ts using coding w Prek. Best practices. Some great podcasts. And @mradamwelcome
A6: I need to stop seeing it as my responsibility to fix all the problems!! #Empath I think if I take a break, I am not doing my part. #oklaed I probably need to seek help. lol
A6: Do-nothing days. Pedicures. Dance Parties. Lunch with friends. Sunshine and shopping. Grilling and healthy eating. Then back to the grind. #thesebillsdontpaythemselves#oklaed
A6: Takeover some of the household duties from the Mrs., exercise more, try to read more. I don’t exercise or read like I should when school is in session. #oklaed
A6). Read and ride (Not at the same time' lol). I read everything I can, as much as I can, and work with my horses and mules as much as possible. Both are therapy and both challenge me. #oklaed
A6: Lunch with friends where you get to sit and talk and actually enjoy your food...as opposed to shoveling it into your mouth in 20 minutes to be back in class before your 4th hour can plan a coup! #oklaed
You have to rest and refuel! I am a huge over worker... but we all have to take time to refuel so that we can give out what others need from us. #OklaEd
A6. Rest= relaxing poolside reading books sans pencil ✏️... which means I am simply reading for pleasure and not critically annotating or analyzing it. I also go on a lot of #brainbreak walks with a good playlist 🎶 and escape to nature as much as I can 🏞 #OKLAED
A6- Unfortunately I don’t feel like I get a lot of rest, but I definitely try to read as many books as possible and love on my 2 cute little boys! #oklaed
Great PD w @k20center as well! We are very blessed, #oklaed has a tremendous amount of talent and lots of great organizations and entities to help us grow. @OSSBAoklahoma@CCOSA etc.

A1. Looks like I pretty much missed #oklaed chat. I had a quiet house for about 45 minutes and got some #diysuwt#AcWri in instead. This summer, I'll be writing like crazy! And swimming with my kids at the pool when I can.
A7: I keep saying it but working out, #CrossFit, is what does it for me.. It's my most favorite thing, and yet my most hated thing.. I also like to spend time outdoors with music and no words.. just reflection. I love time at the river & travel. Meditation is HUGE! #oklaed
A7 - I do a lot of self-reflecting during the summer. That might sound crazy, but it always gets me excited about the next school year. I love the endless possibilities of always being better and trying something new! #OklaEd
A7). Recharging easy when you have a great team like #cpsreds leadership. Year 2 strategic plan, solution tree, and grants make 18-19 an exciting year #OklaEd
A7: I like to watch Dead Poets Society with Robin Williams; also I like to re-read the exit slips my students did for me. It reminds me why I chose to do this and wear this mantle. #oklaed
A7:) Read, plan, laugh, laugh some more 😂, have conversations w amazing colleagues and ponder the opportunity we have every single day to touch the life of an adult or child. There are so many great things to make happen and be a part of in #Oklaed
A7: I like to watch Dead Poets Society with Robin Williams; also I like to re-read the exit slips my students did for me. It reminds me why I chose to do this and wear this mantle. #oklaed
A7. In higher ed, so much planning is determined by syllabus due the first day of class. It always recharges my batteries to review, clarify, enhance, and reflect on how to add more opportunities for engagement. The more I learn (from/with them), the more they learn!? #OKLAED
A6: I'm reading for fun-- finally! Currently reading Little Fires Everywhere by @pronounced_ing and Sing, Unburied, Sing by @jesmimi. What should I read next??! #oklaed
A6 Even though my work changes with the seasons, the summer isn't much different than other times of the year. Except the phones are quieter! :) #oklaed peeps, call me sometime or drop by, OK?
A8: Not necessarily education centered, but I love listening to Terry Gross’s interviews on the @nprfreshair podcast. So many interesting perspectives.
Also: Writing Excuses podcast is really good stuff. #oklaed
A8:) Boundaries for Leaders by Dr. Henry Cloud, Brene’ Brown has lots of good books, Present over Perfect is an excellent book. I love education podcasts but I also love Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday, she talks to amazing people and it motivates you to live larger #influence#oklaed
A7: Part of how I'm recharging this summer is by thinking about all of the awesome new things coming to @utulsa! STEM program for elementary ed, study abroad course in Italy looking at how Italian philosophy of ed compares with US... going to be a great year! #oklaed
Okay #oklaed please plan to be here next Sunday as we Re-Imagine school... It's sure to make you question everything you're currently doing. and I LOVE IT! What better time to reconsider what we have been doing all along?! Let's discuss new and better ways! :) June 3rd!
