A1: My class theme used to be “Science Rocks” to marry my love of rock music with science. Now it’s more in tune with our school theme of #rmsinvests. No particular reason, just a change of scenery for me! #scitlap
Somewhere in the twitterverse is a GIANT spreadsheet of chats... Just type in a hashtag you're interested in finding... Also https://t.co/vdocfsH2XJ has many of the chats listed by date #scitlap@participate
A1 not really a theme but my team has branded our grade as Akers7. It is our domain name, hashtag, etc. as a teaching team, we have a lot of pride in who we are. #scitlap
A1 Hot. It's our first week back and over 85 degrees in the classrooms #scitlap
Really though. I'd say excited. Even in the heat, they are happy to be there!
A3 I can't narrow it to one, still learning new standards, piloting new books, trying new tech. I guess I could say working on balancing consistency with team members as well as still keeping individuality. #scitlap
I added by subtracting by removing my teacher desk to make it our space instead of yours and mine...added some pub tables for standing work space, converted the last class to a standards grading system. #scitlap
A3 - My role has changed from mostly teaching to coaching/mentoring new Ts. Not that it’s a challenge, but definitely different from what I’ve done before. #scitlap
Q4) What's a topic or question that YOU have to crowdsource with our PIRATE crew tonight? I've set up the first 30 minutes, now it's in your hands... #scitlap
A3) I'm connecting each unit in 7th grade to the human body. I have a giant poster covered with sticky notes and am still in planning stages/modification. #scitlap
A3 more authentic assessment during labs do not all assessment is digital or paper, Faster at assessing (which I hate) traditional assignments, more SEP challenges, using research notebooks for challenges and builds #scitlap
A4 I'm not sure what I need help with. After 20 years this shouldn't be an issue, but maybe tips for dealing with major class size differences. I have a class of 26 and one with 15. They are so different to teach. #scitlap
Last science book I read was The Demon in the Freezer. It’s a bit older but it’s about the eradication of small pox. It’s written by the same author as The Hot Zone. #scitlap
A4 what are some ideas you all have for science & engineering challenges that take 25-30 min to build. The other 25 min for design and reflection. From #mdastem I’m working with varieties on golf ball towers. #scitlap
As part of an integrated unit re:native Georgians, we design small aluminum boats to cross a river. Need to make it more engineering and less "lets just see what happens" though. #scitlap
A1) Classroom theme...not so much, but we did just all take a few moments to figure out our Hogwarts Houses. Our school theme is, "Life is not a spectator sport." Personally, I am trying to use more gifs, meme, and cultural references to better connect with kids. #scitlap
A3: I am teaching advanced science. So covering 2 years of science in 1. So...everything is a new challenge to me. Now more than ever...I need plan conceptually and engage in PBL. #scitlap
Q4) What's a topic or question that YOU have to crowdsource with our PIRATE crew tonight? I've set up the first 30 minutes, now it's in your hands... #scitlap

I have done mini-challenges. "Using the materials provided design something that will limit the amount of heat that is transfered to my hand (measured by feel). "#scitlap
